Are Stat Scalings Being Looked-At?

The Boz.2038

I responded the way I did because for three times in as many days, shimmerless and others have claimed that “power damage requires three stats, condition damage but one”, and on each of these I countered them with proof, mathemathics, and logic. I was flat out ignored twice, and Fenrir called me a liar once, saying that I used walls of text because I have no argument to counter THE TRUTH.
The claim is wrong twice. First off, condition damage has three stats that are VITAL to the damage output of a condition damage build. You can only itemize two of those stats. The gains for condition damage from Condition Damage are more or less equal in comparable builds and situations to the gains for power damage from Power. Precision allows power damage to crit and inflict mroe damage, it also allows a condition damage build to crit and apply more conditions. Critical Damage allows power builds’ damage output on critical hits to increase, Condition Duration allows condition builds’ long-term pressure to rise. Behold, three stats.
Additionally, the nature of condition damage (slow and steady) imposes a requirement for a sustain or survivability stat, be it toughness, vitality, or healing power.
I have yet to have this argument countered, but it has been ignored several times.

OK, I read the rest now, there are some pretty good ideas in that post. But still, no to the “nerf everyone but guardian”. It’s literally the only class that has been a mandatory team member for every viable PvP match since launch, and it isn’t all because of one build. It is at least half a culprit in bringing about the current meta, thanks to his “I lol at power damage” stance.

Classes should not rely on CC to hit things, that is just bad design.

They designed the warrior that way, and i dont see that they are going to redisign it, so if they listen to all the patethic cryes of people that can no use a single stun break then the warrior will stay useless forever because they like i said not going to rework the class.

About the sigil of paralysation:

If you use 2 sigils of paralysation that is 3.90 seconds… where is the problem again?

It doesnt stack.

It stacks actually is like every other permanet sigil like 5% more damage and crit chance.

Those two don’t stack.

If something is too strong, it doesn’t matter if it is intended design or not. A nerf is a reduction in overall power, and this needs it.
But then again, a mere 15% increase does seem a bit short on pretty much all short-duration stuns. “Look at” is the best term, yes.

The Boz.2038

If dungeons and content had a better way of forcing light to moderate damage on players without feeling unfair or like being cheated, toughness and healing power might gain more value because they’d become essential to some degree. But I’m not even sure that would be possible: ArenaNet has made a big emphasis on player skill and coordination being an adequate defense, for better or worse.

This. I hope to see this so much.

Ironically conditions are superlatively strong in PvP precisely because you only need one stat to make it effective, meaning you have two left completely free.

This nonsense AGAIN? Will you never give up?

Terror isn’t a condition. Fear is a condition. If it switched places with Dhuumfire, it would no longer be in the condition damage tree. The primary intent of that is to make power necromancer builds viable, while taking away the damage stunlock from the condition pressure build.

There is but one such skill.
Passively, it gives 1 adrenaline every 3 seconds. That is one adrenaline, not one bar; one tenth of one bar. With a trait, it also gives 40 precision.
The active gives five stacks of might, fury, and swiftness for thirty seconds. While on cooldown, the passive effect does not work. With a trait, the 60s cooldown can be reduced by 20%.
I fail to see how the active effect is as powerful as other elites, or how the total effect is more powerful than other elites.

On comparable bases; ranged vs ranged, melee vs melee, multi-target vs multi-target. Go to the mists with a naked necro and a naked warrior. Equip a scepter on the necro and a longbow on the warrior. Observe the expected damage of autoattack on both. Then, equip a primary condition damage amulet with no power on the necro, and equip a primary power amulet on the warrior. Observe the expected damage.
And what I am doing here is proper mathematical study, something you people (Hawatak, Fenrir, et al) seem quite keen not to do, instead using phrases like “deals too many damages”, “needs only one stat”, “has no counter”, etc.

The passive effect of signet elites are a trade-off. Do I want a smaller effect active all the time, and use it when I need to for a slightly larger effect, or do I want to use something that can dramatically alter a situation, but becomes unavailable for longer afterward?
I fail to see how one is “more spammy” or “less attentive” than the other.

Fenrir, your entire post is full of misinformation. I hope they are accidents.
Power damage gets more damage with Power. Condition damage gets more damage with Condition Damage. Mathematically, Power influences power damage slightly harder than Condition Damage improves condition damage.
You don’t need Precision or Critical Damage for better power damage. But you would do well to take some.
Similarly, condition damage doesn’t need Precision or Condition Duration for better condition damage. But a player would do well to take some. The big difference here is that, when compared with Critical Damage, Condition Duration doesn’t get gear stats, and is capped at 100%.
Do you even math?

The fact that some players have defeated Liadri says she can be defeated. The fact that many players are complaining that she’s an unfair fight says that defeating her requires skill.

The fact that some people have managed to pick out an ace on their first blind draw out of a deck of cards says that it is possible. The fact that many players are complaining that it is an unfair game says that drawing the ace requires skill.

Your logic in a nutshell.

Look, I’m all for challenging content, but not for content that punishes harshly and randomly (random illusion spawn instantly downs), obviates entire class mechanics (necromancer, ranger, mesmer), or is bugged to hell and back (the orbs being obstructed). The fact that you can die literally four seconds after entering the arena just exacerbates the issue.

You should keep in mind that a necro’s standard autoattack bleed, in a condition spec, hits as hard as a warrior’s longbow autoattack in a power spec (power only, without precision or critical damage).
The advantages are that it ignores all boons and static defenses, and not being a projectile attack with a trajectory.
The drawbacks are doing the damage over a short period of time (5-6s are the most common numbers) and being cleanseable.
I still fail to see the inherent overpoweredness of conditions in general.

Vitality doesn’t reduce condition damage. It is still a soft counter to it, as it increases the time to kill. It also works against power damage, so the effectiveness is somewhat split. Additionally, before taking healing into account, equal amounts of vitality and toughness add equal amounts of EHP.
And, again, the point of conditions is to offer a sustained, steady damage source that, once it lands, bypasses all defenses.

Anet never rewards players for the right reasons. Should have learnt by now

Or, perhaps it could be said that people are more than a bit hasty in disposing of what they consider junk.

I didn’t consider my support tokens junk. I used them for what they were intended. And apparently I shouldn’t have…

If you used them for their intended purpose, how did you loose? Even if you voted for Gnashblade, they got used exactly for their intended purpose. The ability to sell them afterwards was probably intended as a way to get them out of circulation. Even if you have stacks of buttons, there isn’t any reason not to hold on to them. Heck sometime down the road you could be walking with a portrait beside your head and leave all the noobs wondering how you pulled the trick off.

If you used them for their “intended purpose”, you LOST BY NOT USING THEM FOR THEIR “INTENDED PURPOSE” AND SELLING THEM INSTEAD.
How is this a difficult concept?

Allow Conditions to Critical.

The Boz.2038

Allowing conditions to crit fixes anything how? Most conditions builds are running Rabid amulet already, so they have a decently high crit chance. It just further hurts hybrids or power builds that pick up a little extra damage from conditions.

It would be also reduced by toughness/protection.

…so the entire POINT of condition damage (steady, reliable damage that bypasses passive defenses) would be entirely lost?
Why would anyone choose to do damage slowly if they can do it fast?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s a very simple issue here. A full gear amount of secondary vitality or toughness will increase your survivability by ~33% in most cases. Precision is about as effective, as a full gear’s worth of secondary precision without added power will increase your DPS by just shy of 25%. A full gear amount of secondary power, however, will almost double your damage output.
And also, while there are TWO purely offensive amulets in the game (zerk, rampager), there is no pure tank (vitality, toughness, healing) or sustain (toughness, healing, boon duration) combination.
