Any armor pieces that have a particle effect will do this when stealthed.

They just recently fixed this for all the weaponry…. so I would assume it will be fixed sooner than later.

All they have to do is disable all particle effects during stealth.

The only thing that is comical is the overwhelming amount of buthurt in this thread.

If you are having trouble beating a class in pvp, why don’t you actually run the build to find out what the counters/weaknesses are?

When I first started playing pvp I had a lot of problems…
I had trouble fighting against thieves till i played one in spvp.
I had trouble beating PU mesmers till i played one in spvp.
I had trouble beating turret engi till I played one in spvp.
I had trouble against terrormancers till I played one in spvp.
etc.

Learn the strengths and weaknesses of a build.
…and know when you are NOT going to win a fight.

What many of you fail to realize is that…
You will NOT always be able to win in a 1v1 based on skill alone

Some people are just running your perfect counter.

That being said, if we are dishing out trash talk to classes that don’t deserve them…. lets focus on the one thing that is OP (imo) at the moment vs all classes— Power Ranger Longbow.
Nothing like fighting someone for a point and suddenly having a back full of arrows from 1300 range.
You have already absorbed all the damage before you even realize a ranger has decided to join the skirmish.

It is cheap, skill-less, and outright abused in spvp atm.

I dare you to disagree.

4am server time.

Played a solo queue match, and it was the worst lag I have ever experienced.

Everyone in the match claimed to be lagging.

It was lagging so badly that after I would die in a fight and respawn, I would get hit by like 4-5 attacks after I respawned in the base.

Absolutely unplayable.

Maybe you should have fewer servers dedicated to empty Mad King’s Labyrinth maps, and give them back to us in spvp.

An alternative to this of course is to just zerg with so many people that you reach the cap in upscaling and you can easily out damage his life steal after a few minutes.

The whole reason I posted the image was to bring hopes into peoples hearts….. to have them imagine the joy and fun a new race would bring….

and to answer the question with “NEW RACES! New races is content we normally see in an expansion!”

Not poop on their hopes and dreams by labeling it as fraudulent and a fake.

Of course its a fake.

I think there is a too much reading into the storytelling going on. Synonyms for eldritch include sinister and ghostly (in fact, the definition pulled up by Google is precisely “sinister or ghostly”). Mystic Coins are an everyday item, literally! They are a reward for daily achievements. Finally, I can’t think of anyplace on Tyria that has geysers outside of Southsun. Possible materials that come from karka, reef riders, and gathering include blood vials, venom sacs, karka shells, and passion fruit and flowers (junk items do not appear in the Mystic Forge).

Granted, John could be yanking our chains on this giving misdirected details, but I’m with Occam on this. Simplest answers are the best answers.

And as an aside, my experience with Mystic Forge recipes are that the compatibility highlighting is not an exact science. I have had many instances where the highlighting does not highlight items for which a known recipe does exist. The below screenshot is an example. Eldritch Scroll and Mystic Coins go with the Ancient Focus Cores to make the Mystic Focus, but its not getting highlighted. So the fact that Eldritch Scrolls, Mystic Coins, and those crafting materials don’t all get highlighted does not necessarily mean that they don’t form a recipe. I don’t know if this is bug or intended function (maybe John can provide some enlightenment on that).

You may have bugged out the mystic forge by placing items in even after they are greyed out…. the focus component does not get greyed out for me at all

It is VERY upsetting to hear so many people crying and complaining to Anet to give them the skins again….. because they have ALWAYS been available on the trading post, just expensive.

They were ALWAYS expensive, even after the first halloween. If you want one of these skins, save up your money and buy one.

Everyone who participated in year one halloween did not automatically get a skin, and unless you were extremely lucky, if you wanted one you had to buy one…..

Well, “Lemark sprinted down the alleyway, an endeavor likely to leave one examining refuse closer than generally preferable” Suggests he’s stolen from someone in DR, and attempted escape, most likely, in the sewers. The sewer you can inspect in DR, just so happens to be outside of the Home of Marjory and Kasmeer, near the Dead End Bar. Lots of Merchants and Guards in DR aswell.
Just my thoughts

The problem with that is that the story states he almost slips into the water of the bay.

Not the sewer.

I was thinking more along the lines of a city (alleys) near a bay (sounds like LA to me). Someplace where you can find “refuse” not necessarily waste…. but maybe the destroyed remains of Lions arch?

TheBlackLeech.9360

It’s the Microsoft tactic, XBOX Live used to have MS Points similar to the Gems to buy their online stuff. They replaced it after a long time due to complaints and money making.

Fact was: if you bought something for 2000 MS Points you could only buy 2400, so you had 400 left. The idea behind this was that the customer spent the rest for something that wasn’t on their shopping list ‘be cause it’s not that much and I could spend it on something else’.

It’s sad that Anet (or NCSoft?) runs business in this manner. It really saddens me the way this company goes. No content, more and more money making without any substantial content. It’s worse than the worst EA, Ubisoft or Activision business models. They should be ashamed!

Oh, and btw: They said in the patch notes to ‘make it easier to understand’. What a lie! There is nothing more I hate than lies and to think the customer is dumb enough to not find out.

I don’t know how many of you missed this reply in the sea of replies…. but this post is 100% spot on accurate, at least in my opinion.

It is a blatant cash grab move by Anet, and I am very pleased to see the almost unanimous negative feedback all of you have reported on this matter.

Arenanet, we did not ask for this change. You made this change to squeeze more money out of us, and believe I have the vast majority on my side when I say that this is petty.

It is bad enough that 90% of the “content” you deliver to us are gem store items, but putting a stranglehold on the way we convert our cash to gems is unacceptable.

The only thing separating Guild Wars 2 from the rest of the “cash shop mmos” is the gold to gem conversion. Ruin this feature, and you will be just another “cash shop mmo.”

Boss events: Why "lfg"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

I have read this thread, and I have read countless threads just like it in the past.

This is just an urban legend.

If you aren’t getting your “guaranteed” loot, you are not dealing enough damage, plain and simple.

‘Dealing enough damage’ is actually the urban legend, and you’re buying into it. If you’d like to see the truth, you’re welcome to do the test yourself.

Go to the Frozen Maw event and wait by the Shaman during the pre-events, without a group. Once the pre-events end and he becomes vulnerable hit him quickly hit him with an attack. Add a few more auto-attacks, so that you do between 1000-2000 total damage to him, then wander off out of range and maybe do a /dance. When the event ends and everyone else kills him for you, return to his corpse and you’ll find that you can loot a Gilded Strongbox from him, in addition to your world boss loot. That will fly in the face of your ‘dealing enough damage’ urban legend.

The next test works best with friends, but in conjunction with the above test it can be done solo. Go to the Frozen Maw event and do the pre-events this time, go close the Mists Portals. When the Shaman becomes vulnerable and the final event starts, wait until he drops to around 80% to 90% health before you start attacking, and make sure all the other players in your group (if you bring a group) do the same thing. At that point, go all out and pile on the damage. Backstabs, Hundred Blades, Fire Grabs, Jump Shots, whatever you can do, do it. You’ll deal tens of thousands of damage to the Svanir Shaman, even on your own, if you’re grouped you might even get up to a hundred thousand damage on the poor guy. But when the event is done, the Shaman corpse will be unlootable and you won’t get a Gilded Strongbox. Again, disproving your “deal enough damage” urban legend.

So why can you get a champ bag by doing 2,000 damage solo in one example, but you can’t get one by doing over ten times that much damage in the other? Because loot is assigned by how fast you hit the enemy in question, rather than the total damage you do. Yes, there is a minimum damage required for loot. That minimum damage can be done with a few auto-attacks, so it’s not relevant for this bug. The issue is that only the first fifty people (Forty? Sixty?) who hit an enemy qualify for the loot that specific enemy drops. The players above that limit will still get event credit, they’ll still get the giant world boss chest and the guaranteed bonus rare and whatever else might be assigned to the event. But this is about the loot that a single enemy drops, most typically the champion loot bag. Champion loot bags should be available to everyone who fights the champion, rather than being first-come, first-served.

The other people in this thread who’ve done the test have seen the truth. One person wasn’t even aware that the Svanir Shaman could drop a champion loot bag until he tried this out at my behest. You’re invited to do the same, because clearly, you know how annoying urban legends are, and the thought that you’re on the wrong end of one should be sticking in your craw, just a bit.

This is complete nonsense, and your “testing” methods are weak at best.

Telling me that you don’t participate in the boss fight for for 90% of his hp…. and wonder why you don’t get any loot does not convince me that you are doing enough damage.

Also…. Did you do the same two things with and without a party?

Because I think you will find that being in a party changes absolutely nothing.

What you might be failing to take into account is the zerg size fighting the boss.

You can solo a boss, and deal less overall damage than you do in a fight where there are 93240823402934823949 people attacking him because the boss scales up.

Dealing 100k dmg might be enough to kill a champ solo, but dealing 100k damage to a fully scaled world boss is barely a noticable mark on his hp.

Also, dealing 2k dmg to a boss at the beginning of a fight before his health is scaled up is the same % of the boss’s hp as dealing 200k dmg after there are a kajillion people there fighting him.

Hall of Monuments GW2 Achievement Guide?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Well, I will tell you right now, that the Hall of Monuments itself exists in the Eye of the North Expansion, which is not a standalone title.

You will need at least one of the standalone campaigns and the expansion to even have a hall of monuments to dedicate achievements in.

I would strongly recommend having all three campaigns in addition to the expansion, however.

There are 5 Monumental Tapestries in your HoM where different categories of items can be dedicated.

Cash will get you most of what you need, and how you go about farming your money is entirely up to you. There is one tapestry that is dedicated to your titles earned, and again….. several titles can be earned with cold hard cash. It is entirely up to you how you go about doing it.

Check out the guide here for more information.

Imho, there is a 50/50 chance that every player you get on your team can be some braindead moron from pve.

With odds like that, its more of a roll of dice whether your Win/Loss is positive or negative.

Of course you can do your best to carry the badkids to a win, but you can only carry so much dead weight and your win/loss in not even close to a measurement of how well you do as an individual player.

It should be reworked to be like Random Arenas in GW1, where you fight other teams till you lose, or if you win ten you get sent forward into tPvP.

Dungeon Closing

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

They removed the “instance creator” entirely from the game.

There were way too many problems with people entering a dungeon at the same time, and then having two instances of the same dungeon, and the party would get divided into both of them…. and even after leaving the party and coming back, the problem would still persist.

Now, if you are the last one to leave a dungeon, you destroy the instance, and the person who “created” the instance is free to swap characters, log out, etc without any fear of destroying the instance for the rest of the team.

This is working as intended. Dungeons are not meant to be content that a player completes alone, and it is unfortunate that sometimes a player disconnects…. but people playing in a group will never have this problem.

Can you imagine if a dungeon did not reset after you left?
How does the game know if you just wanted to get back in to get your end chest or start a brand new instance?

You would complete a dungeon path, and it would remain completed forever and ever.

At any rate…. park an alt account, or borrow a friend if you want to swap toons mid dungeon, because leaving an empty instance destroys the instance.

I can’t wait for an Anet employee to come in here and tell you fools that grouping up does not affect your loot in any way shape or form, since you refuse to believe other players when they tell you so.

What CAN affect your loot drops is the total amount of dps (or lack thereof).

I… don’t think you actually read the whole thread.

DPS doesn’t affect loot drops beyond a bare minimum required, that can be obtained via two or three auto-attacks barring being underlevelled or underequipped. Grouping does affect loot drops, insofar as the current loot system is bugged when massive amounts of players are involved, as seen in world bosses. Only the first X players (50ish?) who deal any damage to the target creature wind up flagged to get XP and loot from it when it dies. People who are grouped with someone within the first X number of players will also get loot, due to the party system sharing loot rights. That’s how grouping can help, but the real issue here is that someone can show up to a fight a little bit late with a champion like a Modnir War Beast or the Svanir Shaman, deal 20,000 damage in the fight and not get a champion loot bag from the enemy, whereas someone else who was present when the enemy spawned and tags it quickly can do 2,000 damage to the enemy and get the champ bag.

Everyone who meets the minimum damage threshold should get loot. But right now, only the first number players to hit the enemy (and others grouped with them) do so. That should be fixed. But the Bug Reports threads about it have so far been ignored.

I have read this thread, and I have read countless threads just like it in the past.

This is just an urban legend.

If you aren’t getting your “guaranteed” loot, you are not dealing enough damage, plain and simple.

So you have The Battle For Claw Island

The Ghost Rite

Killing Fields

I would bet it is the Reconnaissance mission, since All of the NPC’s in that mission start talking over eachother if the player moves to the different locations marked on the map too quickly.

new Nomad gear at world boss events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

He might do a little less damage but survive longer( more armor and HP), so it is a crap shoot, depending on how good he was. Zerker isn’t everything in this game.

I see more zerker’s down in fights with world bosses than any other type of gear because they are glass cannons and the world bosses have huge HP pools compared to how much damage Zerkers put out.

Actually for a Tequatl Fight….. ideally you want to kill the mobs as fast as possible if you are on a defense team.

The only time you want anyone in survivability gear is the people in the zerg during the first Teq attack phase. (And that is power toughness and vitality, not TVH, since you still need to be doing damage to push him to a battery phase)

After the first battery defense phase, everyone should be running max dps gear (yes, i know you can’t crit teqatl) since Tequatl will not be attacking again for the rest of the fight as long as everyone is doing enough damage.

It is okay if you don’t understand all the mechanics behind a Tequatl fight, not a lot of players do…. but as someone who has lead organized tequatl kills since the boss was first updated to be stronger, I can tell you there is no place for a TVH staff guardian in a defense squad.

Those squads have an exact number of players to balance out mob strength vs party strength without upscaling the foes. If you are basically running one man short you are greatly hindering your squad’s performance, and therefore are putting turrets, and the entire fight in jeopardy.

And you on the other hand think you are having fun, everyone else must felt the same way, if they didn’t, they just didn’t find it “yet”.

Where did I say I was having fun? I’ve past the point of having fun myself in this game, in all honesty – only friends retain my attention now. ArenaNet has been at an all time low in the past year and a half.

Where did I say anywhere that my post was talking about people having fun?

I am not talking about fun. I am talking about the phrase I’m seeing used repeatedly in the earlier portions of this thread: “I’ve done everything.” or “I’ve done everything except abc.”

And I am pointing out there is so much to do, I cannot believe that they are telling the truth in saying they did everything, or everything except a certain (few) thing(s).

I had my “lets just go out an explore” phase…. but that nonsense came and went my friend.

-snip-

After I hit r80 in pvp there will be nothing left to do in this game.

I’ve played GW2 for nearly 3,000 hours over nearly 800 days. I have not even come close to doing everything, or so I keep proving to myself when I do go out and keep an eye for details.

So color me suspicious when you or others say “I’ve done it all.”

I don’t disagree that the game needs new content, preferably in the form of an expansion, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do in the game. Maybe finding things isn’t just for you. I never said that you would have fun doing the things that are left in the game, I just said that the chances are very high that there are non-chore things in the game yet to discover.

I never once said I was out of “things to do”… I merely stated that these “things to do” are not worthwhile…. not rewarding in any way….. and are generally not accepted as fun in any way shape or form. Most of the things I have “left to do” are all things I need to go out of my way to do for AP.

AP does not interest me any more….. I was in the middle of the crowd…… climbed the leaderboards all the way to top 200, and I realized that nobody cares about your AP…… They see it and say….. oh you have a lot….. or oh you have a little….. but the actual amount doesn’t mean anything.

You get less AP for making 5 legendaries than you do for repeating your living story mission or donating gold to Ho-Ho tron.

Its all meaningless. Its just increasing some number to give a sense of progression.

I rode the crest of that wave for months and months…. and decided that AP grinding is just a list of chores to do, with no real reward, and certainly is no fun.

You can also count the grains of sand on the beach.

That doesn’t mean its fun or entertaining or a good way to spend your time.

I think you are mistaking worthwhile/fun content with busy work/chores.

And I think you are mistaking the point of my post. Which was twofold:

  1. It is inaccurate to say you’ve done everything. That’s a lot of things, and I find it unlikely. Whether or not you find it fun. If you were instead to say “I’ve done everything I care to do” – that’s not inaccurate, but it also is little different than saying “there’s more I could do, but I don’t want to, and I’m going to complain here that there’s nothing to do even though there is more to do” – even discounting the “chore” things. But what’s a chore for you, isn’t going to be such for others.
  2. Just going out into the game and exploring could lead you to finding new things. There is an insane amount of attention to detail in this game, and I’ve seen many, many cases of people – myself included – changing the common angle of the camera and going “woah, was this always here?” or going into a zone they don’t tend to visit and finding new, sometimes interesting, events to do.

I had my “lets just go out an explore” phase…. but that nonsense came and went my friend.

I’ve climbed to the very top of the giant tree in Mt. Maelstrom

I’ve explored the very bottom of Rata Sum.

I’ve gotten out of every single map in this game by climbing or jumping….

I’ve searched every single corner of the game for things people haven’t found before, knowing as you stated that Anet has put great detail into the game.

I swam to the bottom of the ocean after beating Zhaitan in arah story….. looked for his body….. found it….. found the dragon champs i killed earlier….. then swam for an hour in one direction hopnig to find something besides open ocean.

I stood next to Largos npc’s and rotated my camera to see what their faces looked like inside of their masks….

I’ve read every single dialogue option from every npc/object at least 3 times.

I got excited when people started rumors about “Final Rest” and looked everywhere in the game that people may have just floated by without paying attention…. and got disappointed when anet snuck it into the SB chest instead of one of those areas where I had searched and did events that I thought nobody would have ever done.

I’ve played the game since launch, and I blast through new content faster than it is being delivered by Anet.

I used to be top 200 on leaderboards, and decided I would rather stick a fork in an electrical outlet than do “chores” in the form of daily categories to continue climbing/hold my place.

I’ve already started counted the grains of sand on the beach….

After I hit r80 in pvp there will be nothing left to do in this game.

Here are a handful of screenshots from my folder:

1) Random statue head that looks like a regular rock from the back…. but when you turn around its actually a head with an eyepatch!

Wow that was exciting for 2 seconds.

Oh look I captured in my screenshot one of my friends making fun of me for being in a zone where nobody even plays the game.

2 -3) I got threatened by a crab and I threatened back and it ran away!

Oh man I’m probably the only person who has ever done this…… but guess what? nobody cares.

4) What the Largos female face looks like inside the mask.

5) Me “out of the map” on top of Honor of the Waves Dungeon

6) Oh look that regular krait swimming around with all the undead krait in this personal story is still there….. I noticed it on my first playthrough 2 years ago, and now on my 12th playthrough its still there.

This is just from my fresh install of gw on this new computer about a month ago.

Bottom line is….. This game is so painfully boring now.
I’m not really even playing any more…. I’m just looking for bugs to report on the forums.
I don’t care if you tell me there are still things to do.

I want something fun and worthwhile.

New content.
A new race
A new class
A new continent
an expansion.

Giving us a wardrobe after we have played for a year and thrown out one of every skin at least a dozen times over, then saying collect these items you threw away a hundred times already is not fun.

I have my achievement for my 1,000 skins….. and I put more things in my wardrobe every day…

but its not fun.
If I wanted to play dressup with dolls and collect doll clothes, I’d go play barbies with a little girl.

What to do after World Completion?

Kinda stumped on this one. After you complete all maps 100%. There isn’t really any benefit of WvW or PvP except for the “fun” aspect of it. Besides that I can’t really see anything else to do in game besides making a legendary.. but what do you do, if you’ve done all of that with in a few months?

Work on getting all of your ascended armor, weapons, and trinkets for that character.
Make a new character and do it all again!
Make a Legendary!
Complete Collections and work on earning AP!

Will come back Halloween skins 2012?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hello.

I’m not from Anet, but I would like to state my opinion.

The Phantom’s Hood was a gemstore item and will almost definitely be available for purchase again at some point in the future.

On the other hand….
I feel that the Ghastly Grinning shield skin will never again be re-released as a drop from this year’s or any year’s Halloween.

All of the items released from Guild Wars 2’s first Halloween are collectors items.

Now, that is not to say that you will never get a weapon skin similar to the one you want in the future.

What Arenanet has done in the past (Guild Wars 1) with Wintersday for example, was release a special item one year, different from previous releases making said item a collector’s item.

Example:
peppermint weapons and wintergreen weapons

While they both look very similar….. one is worth next to nothing, while the other is very valuable.

So nobody can say for sure…. but you may get a Ghastly “Grimacing” shield (or something) that sports a frown instead of a grin or something that causes the new release to stand apart from its collector’s item counterpart.

The weapons might look very similar so that players who missed out on the first Halloween can have similar items, but will not spoil the collectors and their special items.

Speculation About Fractal Update 2014

Add a “new” fractal boss where you have to fight the boss from (Insert recycled Living story instance here).

You make it sound like a bad thing.

You are aware that those added bosses were added due to community demands, right?

Of course….. but think about whats actually happening…

Anet – “Guys….. limited time stuff happening right now in guild wars 2!”
Players – “We want permanent content”

Anet recycles old content for future update
Players – “Thanks!”

(Anet smiles an evil smile as they are praised for reusing old content instead of giving us new content)
