Obviously your definition of high dps and my definition are two astronomically different things. Lemme guess, you think a nomad shout warrior is high dps??? Nevermind, I already know the answer.
“Rewarding” is subjective.
For me the rewards part is pure loot after the 1st completion. So, yeah, in that regards Raids are likely to be the most rewarding content per hour of play just like Fractals can be today. And Druid’s will be a minizmed role in that. After 1st completion content will be completed as fast as possible, JUST LIKE IT IS NOW, with minimum amount of healing/defensive support to get that goal accomplished.
No, I understood you just fine, and I still laughed out loud.
Sadly, the Druid isn’t going to be bringing me back to my Ranger. I’ll continue to play on my Ele, Thief, Guard, Warrior, and Engie. There’s no reason for me to bring a Druid over an ele in current content, and as soon as the Community has learned the new content, it’ll be shunned there too. Even in the Fractal 50s I pug we blast a water field when we need heals then we all go back to DPS… Why would I want to sacrifice any DPS when I don’t have to? There’s still no good reason to bring a Ranger-Druid into high level fractals (and I doubt we ever will unless Anet FORCES roles onto us like the Holy Trinity games do) . There won’t be even after the ice bow nerf. I’d still rather take an 3rd ele, Chronomancer, 2nd thief, or engie-Scrapper over a Ranger-Druid. And I’m finally being able to watch the the Druid reveal now as I haven’t been able to.
Druid Staff – Cool if you want to be a Healer. No reason to take it over my longbow for offense. My other weapon set is usually sword+axe, so I’m not going staff/LB… because that’s just dumb for dungeons/fractals. The staff simply can’t be buffed to the point that I would actually use it because then it wouldn’t be a Healer weapon like it is now. And the animation for the auto-attack is effing terrible. I thought it was a mesmer with a spine deformation when I saw it. Fix that. Now.
Druid in my Group – For me to take a Druid in my group it needs more offensive support, not healing. More offensive boons like might, Hell, even group stability. Something. It needs decent DPS. What I’m seeing in the video right now isn’t good, and even with zerker stats I doubt it’s going to be good, so again, why would I take it when the point of the encounters is to bring down health bars? The utilities are bad for groups. There’s nothing there but healing. Again, why would I take that when blasting water fields does the same thing? Why? If I see a Druid in my party = Insta-Kick. Or a Ranger running a wyvern that has a knockback…
Me and the Druid – I don’t play healers. Never have. Never will. So, yeah, I’m extremely disappointed even though I expected this hot mess. What I didn’t expect was the extreme lack of offensive options.
GLYPH of EMPOWERMENT: That glyph of empowerment is just… crap. No reason to take that BS. 5s of 10% damage? LOL. Maybe if it was 15s. Not worth slotting over Frost Spirit for Fractals/Dungeons, which is the only thing I do these days. Maybe if it has a 75% up time I could see taking it over QZ or FS, but not in it’s current state. In the current state it’s laughable.
GLYPH OF REJUVENATION: Needs water field. That’s the only thing to make me take it over TU. Radius needs to be 600.
GLYPH OF ALIGNMENT: WEAK WEAK WEAK. Again, why would I slot this over QZ or even Sic’ Em? WHY WOULD I DO THAT IRENIO WHEN THE POINT IS TO KILL THINGS? Radius needs to be 600 and ground targetable.
GLYPH of EQUALITY: WEAK WEAK WEAK. Not enough utility here for me to take it. Period. Why not add some offensive boons to this one as well? In it’s current state it’ll never see my bar even in the beta. It’s just bad. If boons are added some radius increase is needed.
GLYPH OF THE TIDES: STOP WITH THE KNOCKBACKS! We’re hated enough for that. Knockdown would’ve been fine. Terrible knockbacks. Incredibly unwanted in PVE.
CELESTIAL TRANSFORM GLYPHS: Nope. Again, we don’t need that much healing once the content is learned. Worthless. Just need to blast a water field. That’s it. Boom. Healing done. So, no reason to run those.
Druid Traits -
1) Minors – Expected.
2) Adept – Only one I’d take is Primal Echoes… but then again, I’m not going to use staff so that’s useless… so I guess flip a coin and take one of the other two because they’re equally worthless for my playstyle.
3) Master – Natural Stride is the obvious winner here since the other two are worthless to my playstyle.
4) GM – Ancient Seeds is what I’d take because it just sucks less than the other two.
There’s no damage modifiers or group offensive buffs so… There’s nothing I’m really interested in on the Druid trait line. It’s just a Healer line… which again, is not my playstyle.
CELESTIAL TRANSFORM – This is just worthless to me. There’s almost no damage and nothing in here that buffs party. And no, Natural Converg isn’t worth it. Maybe if there was good damage in the transformation it’d be worth taking, but there’s not… So, yeah. Worthless to me.
NEW PETS –
1) Wyvern – WHY THE KNOCKBACK? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP WITH THE KNOCKBACKS!! Because of that I will instantly kick if possible if I see a Ranger or Druid with that pet, just like I do now when they bring in a bear, or just leave the group if it doesn’t happen. Oh, and they’re single target.. which would be ok if they hit like the cats, but they don’t. Did I mention cast times? HORRIBLE in that video I saw on dulfy. Just bad. For that much cast time they need to cleave.
2) Smokescale – Looks good.
3) Bristleback – Meh. Ranged is never good nor is condi since you can’t run Sinister stats on your pets.
4) Tiger – Probably good like the other cats
Side Note:
Irenio’s definition of “decent damage” and mine are drastically different and makes me sad. I have no love for Irenio. ZERO. He obviously hates my style of play. How do I know? THAT SMUG LOOK. And just confirms that I’m not going to be coming back to the Ranger as long as he is in charge of it, sadly.
Final Notes:
1) I’m glad those that wanted to play Healers finally get there chance. I’m sad that my Ranger’s first Elite Spec was sacrificed for that cause.
2) I zerker’d just fine in HoT. The only thing that just gave me problems was the smokescales… and I only had to add in a little bit of vigor to solve that problem.
3) Zerker Meta isn’t going anywhere. Once people learn the content, just like before, the least amount of healing will be taken. There’s no way around except for constantly changing the content so that we have to relearn it. So, unless they are going to go that route Zerker Meta (or rather, High DPS Meta) will stay. And going by Anet’s past history once content is in place, it’s not going to change unless there’s an exploit.
4) The Ranger is now pigeonholed into one role: Healer for new content. There’s absolutely no other reason to bring a Ranger because on average, they’re bad. It’s rare to find a good Ranger in high level fractals.
5) Yeah, you can play anyway you want on the Druid like Irenio said, as long as you want to play a Healer. GG.
I agree with everything you said, but basically what I’m getting at is that healing and coordinated support will be far more important in raids, and that druid will bring a lot of passive dps to the entire group
Say what? Did you just say a lot of passive DPS? LOLOLOL!! And no, healing in the form of blasting a water field is and will be all that’s needed. That’s done through coordination or, at least, situational awareness that a water field is down and needs to be blasted.
I’m guessing druid is designed for raids only other than raid druid won’t do much in dungeon fractal or open world boss
It was designed for raids. That’s the only place it’ll see use.. that is until the raids are learned and we start taking the least amount of healing needed.
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
Those players who strictly play PvE won’t realize this because they’ve never experimented with the other two game modes. They only see berserker, while Anet is looking – and designing – past the berserker meta.
Ok… Designing past the zerker meta means a couple of things.
1) Holy Trinity – Once you put this in there is no longer a zerker meta because other builds will be required regardless of skill level.
2) Push Towards Soft Holy Trinity – This is what I think will be the case through making things bypass the thing that makes combat in this game fun, which is dodging.
3) Changing Content – Once content is put into place humans learn it. Only the most stupid among us will do the same thing over and over and over the same way and expect a different result. Most of us will do things differently to survive the encounter. For the “zerker meta” to be dissolved the content will have to be constantly changing and in a significant way so that we have to relearn the content. This option is not going to happen due to money… as in, the money Anet has to pay content designers and programmers to keep content changing.
Sadly, I see players getting pushed to a Soft Holy Trinity through design… at least, the general population. The more skilled players will still be playing the Zerk Meta and getting content done a lot faster than the PHIW Nomad’s who are still doing the same instance three days later because they can’t kill anything.
No, anri, you give up a third trait line that could go towards NOT being a healer. There’s only two traits in that Druid line that ISN’T about being a Healer. The glyphs are horrible. Plain and simple there’s no reason to take them. ESPECIALLY THE KNOCKBACK GLYPH. What a stupid idea. You don’t spec to Druid if you want to DPS. You spec to Druid if you want to be a Healer. It’s really like that. Put glitter on a kitten and it’s still a kitten … now it’s just a shiny kitten .
As someone who always partner with a ranger, and played it some before, They do damage pretty well. Just because some player believe one way is better then the other, does not mean it always like that.
Step 1 don’t listen to the meta, is how I play. I may check it out for dea, but in the end, I have to play my way, or I wont be playing well. I still manage to pull my weight and f that means it takes an extra minute to take down a champion then so e it.Your mindset is honorable, but you will be in a thight spot.
ANet opened the can of worms know as “raids”. If you think “play the way you want” is a thing there you might be in for a surprise.
Actually, MO (or was it Colin?) said during that 2015 PAX thing that you wouldn’t be pigeonhold into builds for Raids. That all you need is coordination. So… either they don’t know what’s going on in the Raids or they lied. One of the two.

Many many many people fail to see the other reason the zerk meta in PVE instanced content came to rise is because 1) content never changed 2) humans learn.
There will always be an optimal build to get things done the fastest. Raids will be no different. The least amount support needed will be taken by the most organized groups.
Oh you forum bug…
I disagree. I think all profession can use more might. Heck I would love to increase the limit of might to 250 stack seeing how condition limit has been raised.
This. This so much.
Fights don’t need to take longer… NEED MORE MIGHT!
There will be no POI next week because the team will all be at TwitchCon… where we will talk about the final profession spec, as well as more cool stuff on our TwitchCon stream.
Now let’s all calm down and tune into Points of Interest today at noon.
Oh. That’s cool. Going to do like the other prof and have the lead dev for the Ranger go through the Druid skills, utilities, and traits explaining them for 15-20 minutes along with some game play footage of those new things? Cause, I mean, if I knew that the Druid is going to get a proper reveal it’d go along way.

Wow… Never thought I’d agree with you, but today is the day that i do.
I wouldn’t say that Dungeons are dead.
You wouldn’t say it, and neither did Colin… but he said it without saying it too.

Two guaranteed ways to stop stacking:
1) Give all skills that grant buffs a range of 2000 units.
2) Make ranged weapons hit as hard as melee
Then there’s no benefit to melee over range. You just have to stay within 2000 units of each other. Boom. No more stacking needed.
…on the PvE side it trivializes and let’s you just bypass 90% of the content.
Stealth skipping is intended. Why do you think it’s not? If it wasn’t mobs wouldn’t have a leash that can be broken.
Uh, you have to press it.
I don’t believe it is a fact that ranger is the most broken profession in the game, that is an opinion.
Want to read another opinion that’s written like fact?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the ranger class.
Things I’d Like to See:
Challenging Content
DPSmeter
Gearcheck system
More armors less outfits
An armor stat that increases your CC duration (pve only)
Perma-stow for Ranger pets
SAB
Devs,
Just FYI that awhile back there was an unintended change made to the hit box on the Elemental Source’s Crown hit box. Please revert the change so the Crown can be destroyed again.
Thanks,
One Highly Annoyed Fractal Runner
It’s very rare for good suggestions to come across this forum… extremely rare for me to agree with them… so very extremely rare for me to agree with multiple suggestions in thread.
+1 to you OP.
Let me see if I understand this…
you want chest farming, or chest farming maps, or the LFG tool, one or all, nerfed or changed…
even though… literally…
both types of people get their cake
and get to eat it too……over and over all day
…because you have to look at LFG for 15 seconds to get EXACTLY where you want to be?
Am I understanding this correctly?!
Yes, yes you are and it is unfortunate.

The only thing raids need to avoid is that fights can be bugged/cheesed out
Quoted for truth.
If they are damageable, I hope they get reduction from AoE.
You know how long Rangers have been asking for that for the pets??
YEARS.
Literally years.
They’ve nerfed champ bags some 3-5 times… Maybe with HoT they’ll reverse some of those nerfs, but I doubt it.
In a 5 man group I’d say Lupi, Mai, Mossman, and Imbued Shaman are probably the worst, or, well, behind that annoying as hell Elemental Source.
The hit box on the crown for the elemental source needs to be fixed. No matter the level, the pug groups I’m in now-a-days just run in, ignoring elementals, and just nuke down the ele source. Usually it’s done after 2-3 wipes. I’m just tired of dealing with the infinite CCs.
Exactly. Only one beta weekend for refinement. As evidenced by the other elite specs, they need more than one BWE for review and changes.
Azumi… You say lack of variety in builds, but there’s no one holding a gun to anyone’s head telling them to run zerker builds… as far as I know anyway.
Also, where’d you pull that 90% figure from? Thin air or do you have access to Anet’s metric data system?? HMMM? Oh, you don’t. You made it up. Got it. So, just going to disregard the rest of your comment since you pulled all that from the same place you made up some random number about the builds the “playerbase” is using.
I doubt that they, Anet, couldn’t come up with more skills… it comes down to balancing. The more skills you have the more balancing you have to do. That’s simply not going to happen unless there’s an expansion involved because of the amount of resources needed to do it.
Biggest complaint: Please add loot to the mobs.
Slightly smaller complaint: Please add more blossoms or lower the cost of rewards. I’d prefer the blossom rewards from event completion rather than at the end of the timer… but, meh.
Terrible-paltry rewards for time invested…
- Needs a progression / final event like Scarlet invasions.
- Mobs should drop loot.
- Very weak rewards. Very, very weak. Lousy, actually.
Expect it not to be taken seriously then.
I did get into that fight with the Wyvern at the end of Lord Faren’s event chain. Although, did it only twice and neither time did it randomly fall to the ground. I watched the break bar go down and neither time was it 0.5 seconds for it to break. Sure, it was under a minute, but not 0.5 like you claim. With that being said, we must have not been at the same event at the same time because I did not witness what you did. And a zerg isn’t going to coordinated unless all are on TS being commanded at Wyvern, that’s just silly to think people, the general populous, aren’t just going to spam everything off of CD.
I really like the idea of HoT being filled with more veteran enemies than normal enemies. HoT is essentially going to be the new endgame, filled with new challenges and increased difficulty over the core game. Since most of HoT seems to be the possible answer to the veteran players who desire harder content, I wouldn’t decrease the difficulty of what we’ve seen so far. At all.
I actually hope HoT becomes more and more difficult as we venture deeper into the jungle, and perhaps we’ll even run into areas full of elite enemies instead of veterans. You can always go to the core game if you want easy enemies, but please don’t encourage ANet to decrease the difficulty in this amazing game. There will still be plenty of easy content when HoT comes out.
Following that line of logic then the deeper areas of the jungles should eventually just be filled with Champions or Legendaries… I mean, if your standard for “harder” is simply more HP and hits harder, then yeah, we should hit an area with just Champs or Legends and that’s “harder”. I must disagree that because there are more HP sponges and things hit harder constitutes “harder content”. More drawn out (longer to kill), but not harder.
So having the break bar go empty in 0.5secs it’s on spot for you?
Agree with the op, the mechanic is useless in zergs, can ignore it completely.
Get that gross exaggeration out of here as it is not needed. So, yes, it’s spot on.
I would love to see changes which would move dungeons away from the zerker meta, especially now that a-net admitted its an overall design flaw and not how the game was originally intended to play.
Where’d they admit this? Reddit? Cause I don’t read reddit.
IIRC he basically said that in his Raid reveal, and it’s one of the reasons I’m very worried, said PVE design doesn’t force players to use their full repertoire of abilities and that PVP is the only place that the true idea of the combat system appears… yeah… I took that as they want us to tank up and bring tons of healing, and to do that you need to make a bunch of small hits or unavoidable stuff… yeah… not liking it. But, hey fractal stuff will be nice I guess
So, I did some digging on Reddit (for the first time ever) and came across something very interesting:
“I think some of my point was either misunderstood or lost here, in particular reading Nikes comments on the youtube section so I’ll try and clarify more simply:
We like the way combat works right now, we really don’t plan to change it much other than add more options with elite specs. It works the way we intended: you can play control, support, and DPS actively. To folks who prefer to define by the holy trinity, Gw2 doesn’t force you to pick one of the three from heal, tank, or DPS and only do that – it blends a mix depending on your build and allows you to actively swap roles or soft play between roles. Our goal was to remove the forced singular role per you’re locked into, people often mistake this as saying gw2 has no trinity elements, that isn’t true – we just don’t believe in a forced role per for Gw2 for the reasons I covered in the live stream.
That said the point I really wanted to make in the live stream was the issue with the combat system in PvE isn’t the combat system. It’s that the mobs and encounters we have provided so far very rarely allow/encourage you to make use of the combat system as intended. There are some exceptions, but one of our goals with HoT is to help allow more room for players to experience the full range of the combat system in PvE. From the common world mobs up to the challenging group content we will talk about later, we are asking our design team to design encounters in PvE more focused on using the system we have built.
Hope that helps a bit!" – CJ
https://www.reddit.com/user/ArenaColin
Can’t say I read that as Colin saying the combat system is broken. I do read that, though, as them trying to design content/encounters to nudge the player towards a certain build/playstyle, but it’ll still be doable in your current build/playstyle.
Anyone NOT planning on using the new specs??

I doubt it, Knighthonour, because of what they said during the PAX reveal… Needless to say I hope you’re wrong because I won’t play raids if I’m forced into a spec like healer or tanks… nor will I if we have to wait for someone who wants to spec into those roles.
I don’t see enough value in the majority of the elite specializations for PvE.
The reason why you don’t see that value is because the elite specs were designed with 5v5 capture point pvp in mind.
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
I disagree that it needs buffing. It seemed to be spot on with the size of the groups.
Any further “dungeon” content will be in the form of fractals.
I would love to see changes which would move dungeons away from the zerker meta, especially now that a-net admitted its an overall design flaw and not how the game was originally intended to play.

I heard that, but don’t take that as the combat system is broken because content doesn’t force you into a certain gear stat…
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
Doubt it. Colin has pretty much said-without-saying that dungeons like AC, COE, and COF are dead content and Fractals will be the only 5 man instanced content hence forth…
Those might have planned dungeons early on but I’m about 100% positive they’ve been scrapped.

Guard – No. Doesn’t improve my current fractal build
Thief – Sometimes, yes. Depends on the fractal.
Necro – Yup. All the time because I prefer power melee build.
Ele – No. Current D/D and Staff ele for my fractals are great and Tempest doesn’t bring anything that the D/D and Staff eles can’t do.
Warrior – No. I use mine for EA PS in fractals and Berserker didn’t compliment it.
Mesmer – Probably, again it will depend on the fractal.
Ranger – Depends on if they get rid of the pet or not
Engie – Granade power or condi build is strong in fractals (along with lots of tricks) so really depends on if the Forger is stronger than those builds. If not, then no, it won’t see play by me in fractals.
Rev – Dunno. Need more time with the class to get a good feel for Glint.
There will be a fair amount of changes that I have planned and that have come out of the feedback from this last weekend.
Can we please consider both PvE and PvP when making changes though?
No, because esportz!!!
Really liking weapon swap and the Rev Shiro/Glint combo. I’ll end up playing this one quite a lot I think after HoT drops.
Only thing I’d really like to see is faster energy regen.
I can’t make the class work , all the skills have a lot cooldown and so little utility compared to other classes , the pet seems useless and weak once u use the F2 , i thought that ranger it was going to be for me since i like a lot pet classes. but ranger was a deception for me .
Which game mode are we talking about here?
Such a silly comment. Dragonhunter won’t play like sword/axe Ranger. Just like Thief and Warrior haven’t. I just assume people who make such statements are extremely ignorant of how the other classes play… they have to be to compare them to Ranger.
Testing the Thief for this Beta left me very skeptical of the outcome of the Thief in general. .
ANd just think, Rangers and Engies only have ONE BWE with their e-specs.
