Well, yeah, if you don’t count all those other utilities or elites…
But, it’s fine according to their metrics as they released in the info graphic some time ago that 80% of players NEVER CHANGE THEIR UTILITIES.
Love the changes.
The other Devs need to take note here and actual use the 2+ years of feedback that’s been given like Roy is for the Rev. LOOKING AT YOU DEV THAT’S OVER RANGER AND NECRO.
Keeps giving me a log in server is down error and won’t allow me to join the fractal.

I’m really interested in Facet of Nature and how it will affect other Legends more then anything else. +50% boon duration on Shiro’s quickness, Ventari’s regens, Jalis’s stability, Malyx’s….being Malyx.
Keep in mind that Shiro’s quickness is also an upkeep, so you’ll either deplete your bar twice as fast, or you’ll only be able to keep one or the other up.
By the sounds of the Herald in actual gameplay we’re going to be running out of energy real quick, fast, and yeah…
Warrior can run around with all there signets as can other classes. But if you do it in dragon stance you can’t do anything but auto attack. Upkeep skills do not work well with the class.
Just imagine having thief list initiative every second for using a signet. It does not make sense
This is why they need to make sure the Facets are balanced to not destroy your energy in 3 seconds. 6 facets essentially means you would likely run out of energy before you even got to click any of them on. That is, of course, unless they have something within the traitline that reduces energy consumption of upkeep skills. We’ll have to see.
Without some source of energy regen it will be reliant on auto-attack because it was said on the blog or massivelyop that the upkeep is at the cost of energy regen… I’m expecting a trait in the Glint line to affect energy regen, i.e. gain additional energy under certain conditions or something to that effect.. There’s literally no way around being 100% reliant on auto-attack if upkeep is 100% of the energy regen.
I love the Herald so far. The only thing I’m worried about is how the upkeep skills may make it heavily reliant on auto-attacks.
On top of all that, that info graphic Anet put out awhile back said that 80% of players DID NOT SWAP UTILITIES AT ALL, EVER, NEVER. That’s why, I’m sure, the Rev’s utility setup was approved.
I think Revenant should have NO COOLDOWNS whatsoever.
For a class based around an energy system, cooldowns seem like a timid way of balancing it.
The energy cost of everything should be balanced around no cooldowns, even heals and legend swapping. Personally i think this would open up a much more fluid gameplay and make the class truely diverse.
Do you burn all your energy on dps or manage it efficiently for sustain and healing. For eg. Heals could cost a full 100% energy but the no cooldown would offset this (numbers would have to be balanced around this)
Swapping legends could still revert you to 50% energy so no heal spamming would be possible but you’d never feel locked into just auto attacking (and swapping legends should reward the decision to do so)
Balance the energy numbers and i don’t see how this would be impossible to do.
Also
Add a 1/2 second evade on crit to sword 3
Keep auto attacks weak but each should restore more energy
I think that keeping auto attacks weak but restoring energy would go a long way… and some evade on #3 would be nice too.
My impressions after the BWE:
Swords:
-Unrelenting assault needs one of three things: 1 evasion, 2 a damage increase, or 3, the possibility to cancel the skill by moving. Right now it’s just too risky to use for what you get in return.
Agreed.-All around damage is too low. This was presented as the damage dealing set of a dps focused legend (Shiro). I expected this to be on par with other professions top dps builds. In fact, I thought Revenant’s damage should be even higher, considered that the whole profession gives up variety to fully specialize on the role.
AgreedEnergy mechanic
-Still not the best. Weapon skills use too much of it, same with utilities.
-A cooldown for weapon skills is enough, no need for an energy cost on top of that.
-Give a way to increase energy regeneration speed/reduce energy costs through traits.
AgreedTraits/Skills
-The class needs more cheap and instant stun breakers (obviously on cd), or stun breaking passives.
I’m not saying that every Legend should have one, but being forced to take the Invocation line just to have it removes customization options. Also having to swap Legends to break stuns is not the best, in my opinion :PClass as a whole
-Legends feel too…stand alone. We use 2 of them but it’s really hard to have them fit together.
-Still lacks damage
-Energy and Endurance regeneration options are severely lacking.
-If we can’t customize our utilities, every single one of them has to be good and adaptable to multiple builds, right now it is not the case.
-Revenant feels too squishy for a heavy armor profession, especially if you spec for damage. I created different beta professions to check this (same armor stats and runes, dps build and all) and Revenant felt less powerful and frail in comparison, even in the original GW2 zones.
Overall agreed with this post.
I felt like Sword, though incomplete, was great fun. The animations are stylish and I definitely had a blast zipping through mobs as Shiro. It desperately needs an evade, and a fix on the block, but other than that, great fun.
*The healing skill needs it’s ICD removed. That’s my only gripe. *
Hammer’s nice and strong, and Jalis’ utility saved my life more than once. His elite, though slow, gave me just enough of an edge in a few close fights to come out on top.
Shiro’s utilities, I love them to bits. Phase Traversal is tons of fun to spam, and Impossible Odds just helps me melt things, as well as being a useful tool for just running around and exploring. I spam his elite as much as possible in big fights, and it usually ends up turning the tables in my favor. .
The heal really is, in the full sense of the word, terrible and the only thing I actually hate about the Rev now.
90% of the rangers are bothered by it. There is some vocal minority that loves it and there are lots of others that dropped the ranger because of it.
About 50% love it and 50% hate it.
See? I can pull percentages out of dark smelly places too.
Besides your hyperbole, there are other much better reasons to drop the Ranger… IMO, #1 being that other classes do everything it can a lot better, which is why I dropped it in favor of Ele and Thief. Maybe one day Anet will woo me back, but I doubt any time soon, even with the Druid elite.

And I’m just sitting over waiting for the Elemental Source’s crown hitbox to be fixed…
Colin already answered that on reddit btw:
They meant to say we’ll regularly keep adding more via live updates – we’ll discuss our live plan for Gw2 more, once we’re done discussing all of HoT!
Would be nice if there were as active on their own forums as they are on freakin’ reddit.
In PVE:
I was really enjoying weapon swap on the Rev.
I was really enjoying Shiro on the Rev… so much so that I barely swapped out to any other legend.
I liked the Reaper’s Death Shroud, but not the Reaper AA on the GS… or any of the skills except for #3. Too slow for too little damage. That chill nerf while back just… why go into any chilling traits now? Pointless.
I liked Chronomancer, but didn’t get enough time on it to flesh it out.
Unimpressed with Tempest warhorn so played Staff Tempest and was ok, had fun with it, but went back to semi-meta staff build that I felt worked better for Fractals. Just the overloads just didn’t feel worth the trade off.
Didn’t play on the Dragonhunter.
In WVW:
Don’t play it
In PVP:
Don’t play it
Masteries… Gliding is fun because it’s something different, but didn’t gain enough levels to really unlock any masteries because of all the broken event chains and small portion of the map that I got bored with quickly (again because of the broken events).

This isnt the only map. There will be more they just haven’t said how many.
Where did they say there will be more than one map? All I’ve heard is this is one map with three different levels so they keep trying to sell this one map as three when it’s not.

I do so love it with they carry me through Fractal 50s…
Did they out right say it though that there will be more than one map? All I’ve heard them say is that there will be three “levels” of this one map.
New roles? No.
It just more of the same it did before.
My feedback: Tempest seems too good. Too strong. Of all the Elite specs plus the Revenant we have to toy with in the beta, Tempest is head and shoulder beyond all of them.
Wat.
Like seriously. Wat.
Lol, he’s right.
Only that magnetic aura shout alone is enough to kill any ranged enemy. You may say that overloads are not that much, but horn and shouts are amazing.
Quite a stretch of the imagination, infact you stretch it to razor thin lines, to say the shouts are amazing. Hyperbole: Plain and Simple.
As my signature says…
GS is just slow and not hitting hard enough on any skills to justify it. Either buff the damage or speed up the attacks. And if you get chilled, it’s literally an eternity before you swing that GS again..
I tried using the shouts for a couple of hours… and then went back to wells. I kinda like chilled to the bone but that CD is just too long for what it does. Compared to some other stuns available it’s just super lackluster.
GS is abit on the slow-side and we all feel that. But a big part of the GS trash I can clearly say is a l2p issue, some ppl here on Forums expect to master the GS instantly and that aint happening. Still after 5000+hours I think Focus is hard to land and Axe is un-useble so…
GS has dmg, cleave, defence(Nightfall) and CC imho it just needs higher LF-Gen and maybe abit shorter Cast time on Gravedigger and its fine. AND PRACTICE
So, you’ve used the focus, exclusively for 5000+ hours? Because… That’s just… Bad if you haven’t gotten the 100% hang of it after that many hours of use. I mean, if you’re going to be an astronaut for NASA, it’s what? Only 1000 hours of actual piloting time minimum? So… If you still find it that hard to land and/or use they aren’t the weapons for you.
Blighter’s boon might be very hard to balance because it can be OP in wvw, while at the same time being useless in a 1v1.
Irrelevant. They balance 99.99% of the time for 5v5 encounters thanks to wanna-be esports dreams.
There is some hint at things deep under the trees. I managed to glide partway down until my wings seem to go into autofail mode and fell to my death down in the unrendered underbelly of the zone. There was some sort of building visible in the distance. I hope the internal development map is further along than the playable beta we have. There is room at the lower level for lots more content to do.
I don’t think I will have time to play enough to develop my gliding so I can go up using updrafts in one weekend. I didn’t really look up to see if there was anywhere to go. Remember the Wrath of Khan… start thinking in 3 dimensions.
One of the devs did mention in a PoI or ready up (pretty sure it was Rubi in a PoI) that in the actual map you’ll be able to glide down into that area and go into the bottom layer of the zone that way.
Nope. You get ((######)) then you die.
Colin stated in this most recent PoI that the Beta Map (25%) was only of the jungle floor. No canopy available, and no underground (roots).
So, I’m expecting it to cover 75% more of the map when I press the M key. Basically go to the edge of my screen then almost hit the words, “Magus Falls” … Still seems like a LS update vs. expansion. “But it has three levels!!!!#I@!J#ORIJ!!!” And? It’s still the same map. I expect better for a paid expansion.

Hey Anet,
How about reversing the vigor and endurance nerfs you’ve done over the years, yeah? That’d be real nice in dealing with all the new mobs.
Looks like if you talk to the Itzel vendors they will be used to buy stuff from them and/or other new Heart of Maguuma race vendors.
That being once my Maguuma specific masteries are done, why do I need to go back to Maguuma? Well, I guess the Guild Hall… I mean, I play the game for loot, social time with the guildies, more loot, some challenge, loots, relaxing, and loot.
Would be nice if they reversed the vigor and endurance nerfs they’ve done over the years. Then they wouldn’t have to nerf anything.
NOOO!!! Don’t nerf them! I think they are fine as they are. So many Zerker players who can’t play zerker complaining. It’s about time that there are some content in PvE where you can’t go zerker and just roflstomp the whole world. Time for some players to learn to play.
Doesn’t matter the gear from my experience. Zerker or not, if you have more than one sniper you’re going to have a bad time if you’re alone. Surprisingly, though, they die the fastest to my zerker reaper staff w/wells.
Oh and btw something i forgot, if you can’t handle being nearly oneshot by these clear tells, don’t get zerker gear.
Doesn’t matter the gear from what I’ve tried.
So, when the first rush of excitement wears off, what’s the lure of coming back here? Better loot? More challenging instances? High damage mobs quickly lose their lure, and twitch reaction dodge or die isn’t quite so much fun the further away from the servers you get.
How many people still go to Dry Top for the challenge? SW is popular due to high loot, what’s the longer term draw here?
Will people now have to swap armor sets to survive? Switch builds? None of these are easy over multiple characters especially with ascended being gated and no way to save builds (a very basic oversight that, after 3 years, really should have been fixed).
Thankfully someone gets it and just isn’t drinking the kool-aid.
As I see it from the POI the Masteries look like what they are banking on to keep people active in the new maps since they’ll be locked into those areas if you want to raise them and Anet (Colin) seems like they want it to take A LONG TIME to get the masteries done since (IMO) it’s end-game content. Not sure if it’s going to stay like this but loot is next to non-existent (I know, it’s Beta and you can’t keep anything so I KNOW) so will the loot tables change when HoT drops? Because, you’re right. Loot is what keeps the vast majority of people I know going back to SW.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of any of the skins but the dagger and rifle… but I don’t care to go through all that mess of making another legendary.
It’s too much for my toons. Besides, why do I need legendary when I can get the same stats with Ascended?
I just want to know if they’re still thinking about fractals :/
Turns out they are and the updates are coming with HoT.
They said you can pick from a grouping of fractals. This means always the same boss always the same easy and always the same mid level.
Only for those particular dailies. The extra special daily will always be a different fractal scale every day, creating diversity because you’ll want to get that extra special daily reward every day.
If it’s Snowblind that going to have to be crazy extra special to make me do it.
If I undestand well basically every level (scale) will have its map with its new Mistlock (probably balanced on map duration and level).
Example
50 – Cliffside
51 – Swamp
52 – Ascalonetc.
I think what change will be the mistlock, so every level will have a different mistlock.
If you want to farm every daily on the same map (for example swamp) i think you will have a different mistlock and different mob stats for each tier.
So, this is the way it’s going to be? (I understood it to be the same way.) Just complete one fractal and that scale is finished and you get the tier reward???
I’ll have the option of never doing Snowblind again? EVER? Awesome.
They believe, Jerus, because it’s true, many many people enjoy gambling.
I agree with interloper. Now when I get a 2nd skin it just saves me a transmutation stone. I’ve gotten multiple hammers, shields, daggers, axes, and a few others… I think I have a shield and dagger skins sitting in my bank right now.
Roughly in 8 months of game time I’ve gotten all but the torch, warhorn, and harpoon gun skins.
I’ve been able to collect two full sets of acsended armor and quite a few pieces here or there. They drop enough I just stopped crafting ascended altogether because I get boxes frequently enough that it makes NO sense to put the coin required into it when I’m going to get a ascended box.
Hell, about four weeks ago I had a torch precursor drop from one of the Novices @ the Chest Seal.

Looks like it was a pretty good patch for PVP Rangers.
You are talking about PvE. You simply can’t have any issues no matter what you are doing if you’re not out of your mind.
True, but the difference comes in when you start caring about how long it takes to clear content. Sure, you can clear anything in nomad’s gear but it can take 30+ minutes longer and… ain’t nobody got time for that! So, at that point, those with enough skill start going full DPS… Then there’s some of us that are competitive against ourselves on how quickly we can complete content solo… then none (like myself) that get no enjoyment from PVP or WVW so I play PVE. I do enjoy the learning process of learning mechanics and how to most efficiently handle them etc.
You know, I made this thread… then a couple of weeks ago I was brought in on a 4-man lvl 50 fractal. We sold the last spot for 20g. We had a buyer in less than 10 seconds… TBH, I was surprised. I need to make this a regular thing lol.
If it is as bad as you say it is it’s actually a good thing. It makes dedicated support mandatory for Half-Baked.
FTFY, and yes, that’s bad for GW2.
We just don’t do it since it’s been mostly bugged since the beginning of it. We just do the easier ones and get the comms.
After playing Thief and Ele pretty hard since dropping my Ranger main (RIP) pressing a lot of buttons doesn’t bother me since I use a Nostromo and Naga. They’re right close and easy to press. Besides, going Ele wasn’t hard since I was use to micromanaging my stupid pet.
Only if something is OP in WvW do the tone it down, just like PVE. They really do balance around 5v5 pvp.
Ok no idea what you are talking about now.
I said that, in reference to the comment I quoted, that support roles are really only desired for WvW and PvP, not PvE. Nothing to do with balance.
So a support role for Druid would be quite good, hopefully it does decent damage too.
I meant any balancing having to do with WvW or PVE is an afterthought unless a mechanic is brokenly over powered. Then, and only then, will they touch something to balance it. 99.99% of balancing is done in the 5v5 pvp context… but support has to be balanced too.
I do agree with ya though, on the Druid, but without decent damage it’ll not see use in PVE except by PHIWs.
Only if something is OP in WvW do the tone it down, just like PVE. They really do balance around 5v5 pvp.
This is pretty much the most ineffective argument against giving Elementalists a mobile DPS spec with low CDs.
Tempest looks more like a Support spec than DPS spec.
Those roles are generally desired for PvP and WvW, not PvE.
What are these roles designed around?
PVE? No.
WvW? No.
s/tPVP? Yes.
NO!
Love me some weapon swap <3
we already got revealed
Druid, we get a staff using vines to cripple and immoblize.
and now rumor is we turn into out pet for an elite or f skill
If that turns out to be true the only thing stopping me from just outright deleting my Ranger is the crafting 500s that I have done on it.
Yea we’re stuck waiting now. But I just hope that we don’t settle for the “I hope Druid fixes the ranger” type of talk that I’ve started to see. If Druid really is that good then we would all be forced into it and that would be kinda terrible if you ask me. Since we’ve apparently got a lot of time before we hear anything, we should go for fixing core issues so trait lines just determine a build’s style and not viability by default.
If it sticks to the AOE CC/Support role then, yeah, I’ll never use it because….
I’ll say this much, I’m not looking forward to druid if it is a support role.
We are in a burst meta after all…
And we just about always will be as long as the point of an encounter is to kill something. Infact, timers and the like make the bursting meta that much more important.
Indeed. The PHIW crowd will use it no matter what.
Yup… but unlike the pet attunements and death shroud aren’t controlled by AI… which is the achillies heel of the Ranger mechanic.
I must’ve missed the 100% confirmation from Anet where they said that every Ranger Elite Spec that will ever come out will always use the Pet in it’s current form as a chunk of your DPS. If that’s the case I really can just write off the Ranger for anything meaninful in PVE. I guess I’ll just continue to focus on Thief, Ele, and Rev with some guard and warrior.
They didn’t say that, they said that the pet will always be present and will always be part of the ranger, aka there will NEVER be a perma stow option and if there’s ever an option for not having your pet out you’ll not be gaining much, if any, damage from it.
Well, yeah, I knew that as part of the Ranger the pet will always be, but they haven’t ruled it out for Elite Specs. Like I said, though, if they extend that sad line of thought to the Elite Specs then, yup, my Ranger is truely dead to me.
If I have to deal with BS transformations that will never be worthwhile in any sort of meaningful setting other than to the people who want to RP like it’s WoW instead of just playing WoW, I’m driving cross country to have a word with ANet and I will personally oversee the firing of whoever came up with the dumbkitten idea to implement Druid, or who cares what it’s called, ANY Ranger change like this.
You seem pretty convinced that Ranger will be getting an actually good “wow, that really fills a role we needed!” specialization unlike the three we’ve already seen.
What precisely in the last three years has led you to believe that they will be putting extra special attention into the Druid?
The best we can hope for is for it to not be complete and total crap.
Mesmers are getting a 25% movement speed minor trait as well as more team support and AoE options. Reaper is getting an actual melee damage weapon and the ability to lock down targets with soft CC while getting a much needed PvE damage boost. Guardian is getting a reliable 1200 range weapon that actually has decent enough damage to be used outside of autoing world bosses and more active ways to utilize their virtues in combat that make their virtues less like “special signets” than they are now.
From what we can already see with Tempest, elementalist are getting a better ability to be able to play on the frontline, and somehow their everything is getting even more ability to do everything.Every single one of these changes is a change that has been highly requested, in some form, by these communities of players.
I therefore think it’s reasonable to expect that, based on the fact that rangers have been requesting a change to our mechanic to make it more responsive/versatile/micromanage-able, or to not be tied to the current implementation of “pet sidekick” at all, as well as more team/group support options and more AoE/cleave, that it is very reasonable to expect any of these line items to be addressed.
Now, if ANet can somehow make that happen with transformations, fine, I’ll have to deal with how they implement it and will have to tolerate peoples excitement being a kitten furry while other classes can manipulate time and death, hunt and kill dragons, and wield and call forth the power of storms.
But, if it isn’t evident by the way I presented that information, it would be nice to actually get something “cool” or that would have a “significant weight” to it, and considering how a transforming nature kitten furry who can turn into the animal they pet wouldn’t be ANYBODIES choice for a tactical squad journeying into unknown territory to hunt and kill an elder dragon (and that’s just the lore and story aspect of the game) when you have an expert at hunting dragons, a time manipulator, a person wielding and calling down storms on their enemies, and a literal death wielder, and that’s only half of the classes, it would be nice to have an actual interesting, intuitive, and powerful alteration to the class through the elite specialization (also the Revenant is channeling some of the most powerful lore figures of all time, I might add, to aid in the fight, and really, would you rather have a shiro reincarnation on your side of a kittening furry).
To the bolded part: if they listen to the #1 request posted on the forums since I got on here then we’ll be getting rid of the pet for the Druid.
Revenant has no out of combat mobility…
That is it right there. Really need something.
That’s why I have ascended drunk gear set (cele) with traveler runs and ascended sober set (zerk) with scholar… Pretty much everything is in my bank waiting. Bags, two sets of ascended armor, all the ascended weapons, all the ascended trinkets. I Just need the toon now.
I agree that there isn’t an easy fix, but I stand by the two solutions that I have given so far:
- Either remove the energy cost from weapon skills and create a clear and non-confusing distinction between weapon swapping and utility swapping;
- Or have weapon swapping also reset your energy to 50 so the design can reward players that smartly balance weapon swap with legend swap, instead of promoting both to be used at the same time..
Hell, I just assumed they were doing that with weapon swap as it just seemed the natural thing to do.
Ranger gets a 150 precision aura, Revenant gets a 150 ferocity aura.
Ah, well, still would take the Rev over the Ranger every time.
Not even gonna bother touching the druid if it ends up being a bunch of transformation nonsense.
Agreed 1000000000000000000000000000000%
That would be the worst decision ever for the Ranger/Druid.
Transformations feel really clunky in this game…
