I have no idea what you’re yammering about, rangers are as good as, snip, they were before the patch.
And I can agree. Don’t really feel we are in a better or worse position. Kinda where we were before patch at this point. What I do feel is that my warrior got a great buff, as did my thief and my ice bow fire staff ele
LB ranger (and ranger in general) has always been about sustained damage, not burst.
Yeah, Devs for a long time have been saying ranger is about “sustained damage” and not “burst” … which I’ve always found extremely entertaining because all classes have “sustained damage”, it’s called “auto attack” loOLOLMFAOSADROFLPANDACOPTER
EA PS Warrior DPS is a lot better now. That much I can attest to. Better than Ranger? Meh. Maybe, but the bonuses from bringing a EA PS Warrior vs a Ranger… lol, GTFarkO Ranger…
NoTrigger is still right. Even if I used Taunt, I’d still avoid the damage instead of taking it… so, still no tanks.
Numerically, there’s a lot less build options.
It wasn’t the trait system change that made more builds “viable” or “good” (both are extremely subjective terms, btw) it was the change to conditions and how they are handled. Which, by the way, could’ve been achieved without changing the entire trait system. If you think the trait change was done for some other mythical reason than to make balancing easier (in the long run) by forcing the player population to adapt to a much smaller number of builds, that must be some really really good kool-aid you’re drinking.
Valid choices were increased, worthless choices decreased. This is a good thing.
It wasn’t the trait change that made more “valid” choices, it was the change to conditions and how they are handled. They could’ve done that WITHOUT changing the trait system.
That being said the trait system change is PURELY about pvp 5 man group balancing. Period.
In PVE…. Little less than before. Still not running spirit or shout builds.
DPS feels about the same as pre-patch. Soloing things die slightly slower… slightly… Just barely enough to notice. I’m not using my Ranger though for anything other than WBT and open world stuffs. In fractals and dungeons I’m bringing Guard, War or thief since June 23 patch depending on party comp.
Everybody say it with me:
Large health pools do not equal challenging content.
Anet nerfed this trait into worthless status as far as PVE goes.. soo….. Don’t worry about it.
Yup. Our own fault for being salty at having/using a trait that didn’t suck the donkey dong. Now all three traits in that adept suck pretty much equally. GG, Anet.
No, fixing the AI in this game is necessary. Nerfing a trait into never being used again in PVE is not.
For PVE I’m running Pred’s Instinct and Onslaught now… and guess I will be forever because I doubt they’ll roll back this ridiculously bad balancing move.
I could’ve dealt with a CD that lined up with the traited pet swap CD… but 30 sec CD? They smoking some good kittenzy up in the Anet hizzy.
30 or 24 sec CD for 1 might stack? Please. Get outta here with that non-sense. That trait just got PVE nerfed to pathetic uselessness. It’s not a good trait with 24-30 CD… At all. All three traits suck (now) as a matter of fact.
No. It didn’t until the patch they just laid down. Literally you got Call of the Wild every time you swapped pets if you had Clarion Bond traited. Now they’ve nerfed it into uselessness. I ended up picking Predator’s Instinct because, well, it seems like it sucks the least out of the three options now.
Even with taking the warhorn CD reduction trait it’s still not worth taking it.
Was nice while it lasted… now to choose between the other two for PVE… at least they all equally suck now.
Dear Social Justice Warriors,
Please stop trying to turn this game into a big political message.
This game has enough problems without having to be further dragged down by political correctness.
Sincerely,
Everyone who just wants to play the game.
Quoted for truth.
The only problem I have with Condi damage is how it melts World Bosses. Teq is melting like crazy, worm can easilly be done naked and Jormag is a joke.
THey were like that before.
People that wanted HS as a trap were not expecting arming time to be a factor. Arming time is the worst thing ever, and only created so the DH wouldn’t be grossly overpowered.
Also, since when in history does trap have a positive connotation?
It’s funny that people said I wouldn’t notice the arming time. Like ****ing Hell I don’t notice the arming time. It seems forever from when I hit 6 and when HS triggers, and because of that arming time to actually triggering, it’s not where I need it to be. I want my old HS back. This kitten is kittened.
Ranger builds w/perma fury
Opinions and all that funky jazz, Sina…
when people say “good ranger” it usually implies pvp. and yes, it was useless compared to Entangle, which has been the only reasonable choice since spirits got nerfed.
Heh… I don’t think of PVP at all when someone says “good xxxxx”.
RaO was never slotted by any good ranger
It was, and still is, the best elite option for PVE.
Was that a PVP and PVE nerf?
My power ranger build… gutted.
Thanks for ruining it, Anet.
Where’d all my damage modifiers go!?!? I WANT THEM BACK. NOW.
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
Happy for y’all in PVP… In PVE, on the other hand specifically dungeons/fractals, we will be worse off… I’m pretty certain of that just on the basis of losing so many damage modifiers.. I will be doing LESS damage than before.
@jcbroe: what do you think about where the ranger will fall in the dungeon meta? I definitely agree with you on the idea that ranger is going to be in a good place in pvp. I can see a few builds already that’ll have strong synergy and team support however a lot of that is gained by sacrificing power damage. I’m not sure if those builds or anything like it will transfer to pve.
Prophet, you and I are seeing it the same and why it’s sad to see Rangers going back to a terrible place. Those PVP builds won’t transfer over just like they don’t now with old content like dungeons and fractals (which is the vast majority of what I do besides WBT) without them revamping dungeons and fractals into new content. A real shame considering Rangers were in not too bad of a place, and I dare say pretty good… Now, seeing what they are doing… Man, I will just feel bad for bringing my Ranger into a group again.
No math yet for the new formulas, but the current formulas do hold true that DOT is much slower at killing than DD. There’s been plenty of threads on that topic, feel free to search.
Oh, and I did look at your spreadsheet, but until we see what they did with the health pools and creature toughness, etc, I’m going to speculate that DD is still going to be stronger in PVE.
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
False, they said that 1500 stack of vulnerability would be a bit too much so they will keep it at 25 stack for 25%.
Ah, yes. I did glaze over that when I read the notes. Shame. Unfortunately, given that condis are damage over time to ramp up to the same damage as direct damage it’s still going to kill things slower than power builds, and that is bad. So, these changes listed are still bad for power builds in PVE. I mean, Hell, even Roy said on the stream they nerfed condis because of the condi cap being removed (and vul now affecting condis). Of course, any sensible person saw the nerf to condis coming …. or everything was going to get stupid high health pools to compensate for it.

yes you give up like 20% vun time if you choose BM though the pets will make up for that with Zypher speed Pets have super speed+quickness kitten it..with shared boons thrown on top ,that on a bird and you’ll have your kitten dps back..
bark skin on low hp pets will not work its best so you don’t have to use bark skin.
though bark skin for bears/drakes/pigs/hounds maybe spiders depending on the hp will be worth it.
#1: It would be most stupid to give up vul stacks for BM because that whole thing about vul increasing DPS for the entire team and now that we can apply 1500 stacks of it I can see team comps built around maximizing it.
Uh, nope. I’m not assuming pets will making up for the DPS lose like you are. Unless they’ve made some INSANELY good AI breakthrough then I expect the pet to act the same as it does now. 3 might stacks ain’t much and ain’t going to make a difference. The parties I run in always has a PS Warrior for might anyway. Sure, maybe if you don’t have a PS Warrior that MIGHT make a difference, but 3 might stacks for 3 seconds? LULUOLOL. That won’t matter, that’s a waste of a trait slot. You give the pets WAY too much credit.
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
Well… Overall.. I’m not pleased with how hard they brought the nerf hammer. I was excited for the ranger changes in PVE, but now I’m not. With all my damage modifiers gone I have no want to use my Ranger after June 23rd. I mean if I still use it, I’ll have to take Mark and Skirm… but the last one… I don’t want to play a Beastmaster so I guess I’ll be going into WS for kitten traits that don’t improve damage or NM for ONE trait that improves DD.. Spirits are still pieces of garbage along with shouts. Not bringing them into dungeons/fractals unless they make frost spirit immortal without having to trait for it.
So so sad that things didn’t turn out better.
And no, condi’s still won’t out DPS direct damage… so, since they won’t be I won’t be running condi builds. Annnnnnnnnnnnd to make pets somehow worth a kitten you’ll have to spec into WS for Bark Skin to take advantage of Beastmaster line (meaning to keep them alive long enough to do damage and not to get insta-gibbed by AOE)… meaning you’re losing either Mark or Skirm giving up personal DPS… So, no. That’d be kittened.

Is somebody complaining about the last remotely interesting non-megazerg world boss in the game?
K, just checking.
Teq 2.0 and Triple Wurm would like to have a word with you.
Will SkillType Runes Apply to Revs?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: TheFantasticGman.9451
Can you give a specific set of runes you are referring to? Because I fail to see how they wouldn’t apply to Revs… Like the scholar runes I run on all my toons will work just the same on the Rev regardless of the Legend that is currently channeled.
Where did Anet announce weapon choice is tied to legend choice? Haven’t seen that anywhere.
That being said I’ll never use the Ventari legend with the staff unless the staff is a high dps weapon using the power legend… unless they add in weapon swap.
We have rogues in gw2?
Oh, and there is no “berserk trend” outside of speed clearing dungeons so your whole survival section can be removed.

For PvE Berserker is a safe bet. .
Yup. That’s why I have a zerker set waiting and currently building a celestial set… read: sober set and drunk set respectively.
Now, use to (before a recent patch) you could use the heat shield #5 on the provided rocket launcher… as in you could start casting it and half way through the cast time move and it would go on a 4 second CD so you could use it again to block the next incoming fear. Not anymore. It’s “fixed” so that it goes on a 30 CD no matter if you break the channel or not. So, I stopped doing the first phase. I run in, see where the wall is at, then I go do mining, forging, or tree chopping until it’s at 2nd phase. Let the people who don’t mind getting fear’d 1000 times during 1st phase deal with it. I’ll just come in on 2nd phase with zero frustration and enjoy the event from there on out and still get the same amount of reward as those who participated in first phase. Maybe if they hadn’t “fixed” the heat shield #5 CD I would still participate in first phase, but not now. I got on the Nope Train headed to Nopeville, Nowayinhell at 200mph.
From what information was provided, I’ll never use the Ventari legend unless there’s weapon swap. A barely-DPS legend is useless in instanced group content with things that have healthbars.
Sure you will. Near-permanent projectile absorb uptime is great, plus you can run DPS weapons and the power-based legend and swap to that when you don’t need the projectile management.
Man, if they add a weapon swap… Just… I picture it being much better than the current situation. Also, Dusk, you are assuming on a power legend that the staff will be the highest DPS weapon… I’m assuming sword will be.

Can we just get all these “Nerf Zerker” threads merged into one super nerf zerker thread? I mean in the same way that all the “bring back SAB” threads got merged into one super thread…
You know, so it’s easier to ignore.
EDIT: Going to flag all the “Nerf Zerker” threads as duplicates and paste a link to this one so they can get megamerged into one steaming pile.
Wife and I both use them. We both have F1-F4 keybound to 1-4 on the side. My dodge keybind is on 5. Passive/Aggressive keybind for my Ranger (since that is my main still) is on 6. My wife has skills 6-0 on the rest of the buttons along with a few other things that I’m not sure of.
From what information was provided, I’ll never use the Ventari legend unless there’s weapon swap. A barely-DPS legend is useless in instanced group content with things that have healthbars.
I think the Revenant is part of ArenaNet’s new model of “choices are too hard for our players, we need to give them as few as possible!”. Not only players don’t get to swap weapons, we also don’t get to swap utility skills outside of swapping legends (and even those are limited to two at any given time).
Which means, build diversity for the Revenant is incredibly, massively low.
And isn’t that the direction ArenaNet is going for? I wouldn’t be surprised if they just remove two thirds of the announced traits and just claim that each trait line will have only one trait per tier, because, you know, “choices” and all.
I think someone at Anet mentioned in an interview sometime early-mid last year that some 90%+ of players set their utility skills according to their internal data and never changed them. I remember talking to guildies about that when it put out there. So, knowing that it’s no suprise they are moving to dumb things down because to 90% of the playerbase it’s simply not going to matter.
I understand anet likes to be “different” , but ya know, different isn’t always good. I personally feel it’s extremely short sighted and silly to design a profession that will be stuck with 1 weapon during combat …
So, you haven’t played an Elementalist before… Gotcha.
Comparing Rev to an Ele isn’t as simple as you might think. Even though Ele’s don’t have a weapon swap they do have access to all 4 attunements which in turn gives them something like 20ish weapon skills to work with + all there utilities which can be mixed and matched on the fly. That and Ele’s always have access to ranged skills with utilities like icebow & greatsword.
Rev’s biggest downfall imo is that it only gets 1 weapon that seems to be geared toward a specific legend -> mace/axe for demon, hammer for dwarf and imo they aren’t really interchangeable, & they are given a specific set of utilities that can’t be mixed. No weapon swap with tied utilities doesn’t leave much room for options or customizations out in PvE land. It’s an all or nothing, you’re either ranged or your melee. Hammer is to slow to be useful in certain situations and melee might not be what you want in others.
Mind this is just my first impression with the rev and it might be different once we see what other weapons it has access to and what other legends might be available later. While I think Rev could be a solid class I don’t see myself using it much in group play, I think I’d be more keen to use Chrono or Dragonhunter.
That’s why it’s immature to call the Rev design silly… because it’s not fully fleshed out lik the Elementalist. So, before calling the Rev design silly, let’s wait to see all the trait lines and weapons.
This is just the first area of the expansion. I can only image the mood will change as we move beyond what we get to see in the beta.
You mean beyond the stress/event testing and get to a real beta?
Oh, I thought you were referring to my comment… I see, don’t think you should’ve quoted me but just Swagger because we, Mr. Bowhuntr, are in agreement then if that was your point (because my comment was obviously not negative towards the Elementalist or Rev). The Elementalist is far from the term “sucking” in terms of DPS and utility… but we know everything about that class unlike the Rev. For Swagger to say that simply it’s bad/silly design not to allow weapon swapping it’s painfully obvious he either hasn’t played an Elementalist, doesn’t know how to play Elementalist, or is denying the Elementalist profession exist in the game because it is NOT hindered in any form or fashion by not being able to swap weapons. So, until we see/know everything about the Rev class can we really determine if it was silly or not for the Rev not to have the ability to swap weapons.
(edited by TheFantasticGman.9451)
Smells like a trolling thread, but not quite sure.
Just search for a speedrunning guild like KING, rT, and DnT.
It’s not a matter of loving the pet or not. It’s a matter of what can they do with the class profession changing it enough for a new elite spec while keeping the pet theme. Your Ranger will always have the pet mechanic. Don’t worry your little head, no one is taking that from you. This thread isn’t about that (and should’ve been stated in the OP) because the Ranger mechanic is not going to change, however with new Elite Specs the Ranger class mechanic will change, whether you like it or not. So, it’s a matter of just how much the Ranger class mechanic will change with other expansions/feature packs.
Elementalist sucks? LOLOLOLWUT???
I’ll just go ahead and assume you’re talking out of your backside because that just doesn’t make any sense what so ever.
And uneducated comments like “doesn’t make the rev any more fun to play” … well, it’s obvious you’ve already made your choice not to play it and what you think of it even though at least half of the Rev (and it’s Elite Spec) hasn’t been shown or available to use yet… So, that’s cool to have an immature opinion on something, but it’s just plain silly to call the Elementalist a “sucky” class.
