As far as I know of, -RG is responsible for mesmer/necro/berseker
Karl is DH/tempest/daredevil
Roy is revenant/forge/druid
(3 each)Wonder where Ireno aka Kui fits into this. I recall him posting BWE changes for Tempest and doing the Engineer & Ranger changes.
I do believe Kui is doing the Ranger/Engineer.
From what they’ve released so far there’s no reason to switch from my current DPS or Phalanx build for PVE end game content (read: Fractals).
Yep, because only knowing one utility, the two weapon skills, and some vague details about the new class mechanic (and not knowing how it will apply to or change 5 of our 7 burst skills) and having no math or number tallies or traits at all is totally enough information to decide whether or not a spec is viable.
SMH
From what they’ve released so far, there’s no reason for me to change my Engineer, Thief, or Ranger builds, either.
I guess you don’t know what the words “From what they’ve released so far…” mean.
SMH
I just still don’t see legend swaping as a valid mechanic to get energy back. It would work if we had many more legends to pick 2 from. That way if I want to do 2 dps legends i can instead of I am in shiro putting down some pressure and I get low on energy. Now I am forced to swap into a non dps legend for 10 seconds to get energy back.
Energy is not only used for utility skills.
You can use the energy from the other legend only for weaponskills and haling, then swap again. Also every legend has good damaging skills except Ventari.
Both Shiro, Jalis, Glint and Mallyx have dps upkeeps to boost your weaponskills while you wait cd to go back to your first legend.
So I don’t really know what you’re talking about. We actually have 2-3 dps legends, but that also depends on the weapon and gear you’re using.
You keep saying DPS. I do not think that DPS means what you think it means. Nor can I agree with you because from my experience with the Rev so far is that Shiro is DPS, but only decent. Jalis, Mallyx, and Glint aren’t DPS legends, to boost that POV, Roy called Shiro the DPS legend. If the others were, they would have called the others DPS legends as well, but he didn’t… And if you think any besides Shiro are DPS legends then you don’t know what DPS refers to nor should anyone be listening to you talk about DPS.
As the Old Guard leaves Anet things will change. Although, as long as Jon Peters is employed on the Dev design/balance team I don’t think we’ll get perma stow as he has been a vocal proponent (along with John Sharp) that Rangers should always have pets. Now, that being said, Devs have always been clear that the Ranger will always have it’s pet… They never said future elite specs of the Ranger (which are named differently) will have the pet as well as 100% fact, just that the Ranger will for 100% fact always have a pet..
I’m assuming this thread was somewhere else but now relinquished to the Ranger sub-forum to wallow in it’s own filth.
Hello, at first sorry for my english, he isn’t good.
Im old GW2 player and im dissapoint engame in this game cause this game have NO ENDGAME.
I stopped reading here because there is end game. Anet considers Fractals end game for PVE….
From the Legendgary backpiece blog:
“The second is that—while we view fractals as our infinitely expandable, endgame version of 5-man dungeon content, and…”
So, since the OP is ill informed I stopped reading.
Its the 2 top men at the company what big announcement could it be its the release date.
It’s the Druid elite spec they’re going to be announcing.
Let’s just hope it’s the best thing of the entire expansion :P
I learned from maining a Ranger for thousands of hours not to hope when it comes to what Anet will do.
PVE meta doesn’t really matter. They balance around 5v5 capture point PVP. Not only that you should follow your guildies advice and stick with your own LFG if you don’t want to play with zerkes. And if you don’t like seeing “zerker only, ping gear” etc LFG then just simply DO NOT OPEN THE LFG PANEL…. Because in my opinion, current meta isn’t “broken” it’s working as the mechanics allow thus intended. No one is forcing you to play zerker or any other gear set. Do what your guildies told you and play with like-minded people. There are plenty of them out there. No reason to force other players who like the zerk meta to change because you don’t like it when it doesn’t affect how you play at all… Again, take your guildies advice and leave other people alone… but I can tell you’re the type to keep up with the Jones by your biting at the lip about the Warrior elite spec because you’re too worried about what they’re getting vs what you have. Worry about getting the Tempest improved, not what the Warrior is getting… Oh, and RNG ain’t going anywhere.
Can you also give us a particle slider prehaps? Sometimes I cant even seem my character.. its not cool to see only a ball of light in combat
THIS. SO MUCH THIS!
I usually can’t see Mossman or any other Norn (or smaller) sized thing I’m fighting through all the freaking particle effects! I need an option, so bad, to turn them down or off completely.
Oh, and make the cursor more visible, plz. kthxbye.
Shame that the CDI felt largely like a giant waste of time… That being said every time I read this line “Also, what if stowing the pet and having an aspect gave the Ranger some kind of aura that communicated to others they are in that “aspect”?” I get some jiggly feelings in the stomach that the perma-stow option will one day come true despite the whiners and “You need to play how I want you to play” crowd that doesn’t want anyone to have pet stowing options because THEY don’t want pet stowing options so no one should have them..
There wasn’t enough information from the data mining to go very far reliably.
From what they’ve released so far there’s no reason to switch from my current DPS or Phalanx build for PVE end game content (read: Fractals).
Actually, passive/agressive is already in game. By default it’s not keybound. You have to go into the options > controls and keybind it. I have mine set to “L”. F5 to activate pet aspect (there by absorbing the pet) is completely probable.
It’s to stop you racing ahead and kitting out five characters in full ascended in two days. Be patient.
Actually it was put there to promote gem sales. How? Well, because you buy them with gold on the TP. Since the fastest way to get gold is with the credit card through gem purchases, that’s obviously the route they would like you to take. Where’s my evidence? The fact that ascended crafting materials CAN be pruchased on the TP. If they did NOT want to it to be this way all the ascended crafting materials would be account bound.
I assume it’ll have a Breakbar after HoT drops so…
Hi everybody, I just wanted to bring some love to the under appreciated Tempest! There have been a lot of less than warm responses to the new elementalist specialization due to a variety of reasons, while some complaints may not be entirely unfounded it’s not a reason to not LOVE the tempest.
Yeah, they are valid reasons not to LOVE the Tempest… which is why I will not be using the Tempest in it’s current form or the next BWE in the PVE end game content that is Fractals.
Well a lot of the feedback was asking for more dmg and that what they did. Your not getting a new F1-F5 and your not getting a new wepon.
Thanks for stating the obvious. We want decent traits with some synergy, elite that’s better than the worst elite ever and that mysterious control and support we were suppose to get. Sounds fair?
Don’t bother. Jski speaks purely from the emotional side. Trying to reason with that thought process will not work. But, it’s your time to waste, rotten, so…
Going to quote this because apparently people are incapable of reading more than 1 page of thread.
Hey everyone.
Not all feedback could be addressed this iteration in fair part due to time constraints on key members of our design team. That does not mean we are dismissing your feedback or that all the issues you’ve raised up to this point will go unchanged before expansion release.
This is a small set of changes from the first beta weekend event; we will continue to iterate on the specialization skills and mechanics and shall be listening for your constructive feedback.
We will be reviewing the Tempest traits along with casttimes vs. effects on overloads among several other aspects of the elite specialization.
That’s really funny… I mean, especially after reading the Rev, Reaper, and Chrono BWE feedback Dev notes. They must feel that the Tempest is in a good place trait and utility wise therefore are ignoring our feed back. If they agreed with us they would act on it like the did for the Rev, Reaper, and Chrono.
Bottomline is there is time for it. If they think there isn’t time that means that they think they aren’t going to make their internal deadline, thus they need to make the time either by longer hours or weekends. It’s a job for them. If I’m late on a project and the deadline is coming up, guess what? Yup, I put in longer hours to make sure everything is done on time. Yes, that means I make time.
Dose not make it right to make others work the same hours as you do (though this is getting way off-topic). Its like the Amazon thing yes some ppl are marry to there work and these ppl tend to get payed very well for there time but then these same ppl tend to feel every one should work as they do leading them to push ppl who may simply want a job to make money to live and have a life out side of work.
Any way i have a strong feeling if you did not like say overload on tempest then odds are your never going to like this elite spec and that is ok. Keep on with ele its still a good well rounded class. Ele lose nothing for you not liking tempest.
Please, leave your feelings at the door. It’s a job. I’ve worked jobs where I’m gone half the year. Military personnel leave for much longer periods working their jobs. So, please, leave your strong feelings at the door. The Devs, who have a very safe job and who go home every night to their families, can put in a some extra hours to get the job done THAT THEY ARE PAID TO DO… And it’s not like they won’t be compensated for those extra hours.
If you leave your feeling at the door why cant you leave your job as you come out of the door. It just seems its all lost and no gain or all work when you told to and no “life.” The very ideal of mmorpg IS counter to the ideal of living to work. Just being payed dose not mean they own the person.
It will be done / talked about when its ready.
Can’t talk to you as you’re all emotion and no logic. Good day, sir.
See, that’s how I read it. The pet literally disappears and you gain it’s “aspects” which is what was discussed in the CDI.
Oh man, if you’re right… I’d actually be hyped for the Druid.
Just so we’re clear, I’m not saying this is happening. This is just me 100% wish listing
I know… that’s why I put the IF in there…. If you are right though, I’d pick my Ranger back up. I’d like Druid to be that brawler/support like D/D ele so I can bring my Ranger into fractals instead of my Ele, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Heh… I suppose. I only tried it out where I spend most of my time in game.
Going to quote this because apparently people are incapable of reading more than 1 page of thread.

They’re fine in dungeons, but they have a bad reputation be cause of the immense amount of Bearbows running around.
No, not just Bearbows, just bad players period.
Yeah, when they announce those rewards we’ll each individually decide whether or not those rewards are worth the additional time investment. Honestly, I’m betting they won’t be worth it. I think it’ll be the difference between COF P1 and ARAH P4… Which ain’t much considering the time investment requirement difference.

Based on the other elite specialization, they’r realy trying not to take anything from the original mechanic but rather to build on it. I dont think F4 pet swap will go away. I dont think the new F5 will make pet dissapear.
Yup, nevermind then, my Ranger will stay on the shelf if there’s still no option out of the pet.
Maybe with the next Elite Spec they’ll fix it proper and I can start using it again.
Atherakhia is talking about the pet always being there, we just lose the pet controls when using aspects.
Oh, well, nevermind then. My Ranger can stay on the shelf where it’s being a fractal ring mule.
If anything, we could tweak duration or stacks if it doesn’t feel good enough when you all get a chance to play it.
roy, would you please share your way of thinking with the other devs? i feel like some of the others would definitely profit from this, and the classes they work on too^^
I do.
All of us on working on skills sit together, are all in the same meeting, etc. I’m involved in basically all things involving player combat.
We always aim to constantly improve ourselves and our designs.
You say “all of us” but y’all must doing it while the Ranger Dev is dropping deuces.
If it were me doing this, this is how I’d approach it…
The Druid retains use of their pet just like normal for the Ranger with one addition… F5.
You press F5 and your pet controls are removed and replaced with effectively the Elementalist’s attunement and the additional F5 to switch back to your pet.
Since we have no idea what aspects ANet will choose, I’m just going to stick with the Norn aspects and choose Bear, Bird, Cat, and Dog. It doesn’t matter what weapon you had equipped, each ‘attunement’ would have the same 5 skills.
Each attunement has 5 skills to choose from designed around the nature of each individual animal. Cats would be like fire with more DPS oriented skills. Bird would be like air with more speed and bursty skills. Bear would be like Earth with more tanky skills. And dog would be like Water with more utility minded skills.
On top of this the Druid would have a staff.
I hope the above quote is correct. I hope this is the way they do it and I will finally have the option to be rid of the pet. After thinking about it a minute I would literally ALWAYS be in Druid with F5 active if Anet does it like Athera would. I would always be in the MM, SKM, and Druid trait lines because WS and NM are worthless to me.
Honestly, I ran my Ranger will traits that buffed the Ranger. If it buffed the pet only I didn’t choose it. Honestly, the trait changes back in June destroyed the build I had and now with a lot of our damage modifiers gone, it sucks. Nature Magic and Wilderness Survival don’t do much for me anymore. It was part of the reason I dropped the Ranger too.
Pretty much if the pet stays and there’s no damage modifiers or boosts DPS then I’ll be waiting for the next Elite Spec before I come back to the Ranger I guess.
Oh, OP, a straight DPS increase via 1 aspect won’t be putting Ranger into the PVE Meta. There’s a reason Staff Ele is in the PVE Meta and DPS is only part of it.
I’m quite aware, otherwise lich form necromancers would be in higher demand. There’s a lot else to the idea though, and I would appreciate it if you didn’t ignoring the obvious other parts of the subject. I’m addressing a small part and presenting ideas for that part, not covering every skill possible like Wooden Potatoes might.
Uh, you do realize you brought up the Meta, right? So, you opened the gate on that being commented on… you just didn’t mention which game mode Meta you were talking about. Had you said PVP Meta I wouldn’t have anything to say beyond I hope they don’t fark it up for PVE. And because they balance around 5v5 capture point PVP, there’s not a high chance of Ranger becoming PVE Meta… I also don’t watch Streamers or the likes of Wooden Potatoes so.. that point was lost on me. In bringing up the Meta like you did I’m well within my way of ignoring whatever I want or including whatever I want… especially since you didn’t specify which Meta you were talking about. So, as far as PVE goes, what you propose/suspect/guess for all the Aspects will not move the Ranger towards PVE Meta. Or did you mean PVE, PVP, and WVW when you said the Metas for basically everything?
Change the Traits.
And really guys just get over that magic sword theme already. Mesmer and Necro are designed to be melee scholars but Ele will never be because it is just not how they work. Even their frikkin daggers are ranged what you expect.
Actually, it’s highly probable they’ll eventually get swords in a future expansion if they follow the “add existing weapons to classes” rather than adding new weapons. Just like Warrior is highly likely to get off hand dagger or pistol eventually.
Oh, I won’t be running if for high level fractals, that’s for sure unless some trait changes come. After 3k hours that’s also why I stopped running my Ranger in high level fractals when I could just run a guard, thief, ele, or warrior and bring a lot more to the party. I use d/f or staff depending on the fractal and party comp… although I find I’m on the staff more, but I’m constantly swapping attunements and just see being locked down in Overloads as not worth it as they sat during the past BWE. Maybe next time they’ll be worth it, but I’ll see… but it has to be worth dropping one of my current trait lines for the Tempest trait line, and it just wasn’t.
So at this point I don’t know why we should bother with providing more feedback…
Man, Rangers were at that point so long ago… then, one day, long after the feedback was given some staff changes happened at Anet and that feedback was used (longbow changes for instance) and some hope was restored.
There was no reason to bring Rebound into fractals over the glyph or FGS.
Tempest can use d/d and d/f so i do not see your point.
Yea, Tempest can use D/D and D/F. No need for D/Wh at all.
Heck, the traits are awful too. No need for Tempest.
That was my conclusion for end game content that is Fractals.
Indeed it did come up during the CDI, multiple times.
Hopefully, they’ll allow us to dump the pet altogether for the aspects or… I’m really hoping, against my better judgement, there’s a Grandmaster trait that allows you to give up the pet in return for DPS return to the Ranger (and maybe another buff of some kind but I’d really just be happy @ not having the pet) so I can finally go petless and just use the Aspects. And, if they went this way, people who want pets could still have them, I just have the option to get out of them! EVERYBODY WINS!
And yes, anything is possible at this point with how little we know about the Druid e-spec.
Oh, OP, a straight DPS increase via 1 aspect won’t be putting Ranger into the PVE Meta. There’s a reason Staff Ele is in the PVE Meta and DPS is only part of it.

“Hard” is just temporary to those that can adapt. That’s not a good arguement for keeping spirits in the terrible place they’re in for PVE end game content which is Fractals. Fractal 50s were difficult for a time, now they’re cake. We, as a group, optimize to make content easier. It’s human nature to get the most reward for the least investment. It would be stupid to do otherwise. Ranger does not fit this motif. You can try all you want and wish as hard as you can, like I did, but you’re not going to doing the group much good bringing a Ranger when you could bring another class and contribute a lot more.
In the end:
Banners > Spirits
Don’t know if you know this but after running my 500th 50 Fractal, I want to get it done as fast as possible. Turns out, I’m not alone and not in the minority by my experience. Unfortunately, Ranger just doesn’t work towards this goal as well as other classes. It’s funny that the groups I’m in that we get our 50s done in 20-40 minutes are a lot happier than the 60+ min groups, even if the rewards are crap.
Man… That is bad. Indeed sorry to hear.
Druid. Pet functionality goes beyond more control, it’s the fact NPCs can’t attack while moving and I highly doubt that’s ever going to change.
That can be easily changed by increasing the melee attack range to 250-300 on all pet attacks.
I would really like pets to be better in all aspects, but looks like Druid is getting Aspects, which may mean a loss of the pet anyway, so we shall see.
Oh? When this this bomb drop? Did I miss an article somewhere?
Datamined trait. It’s on the forum.
Was running a 50 fractal with a Ranger yesterday and he pointed me towards the Reddit thread…
A FRACTION (1/320) OF HOPE HAS BEEN RESTORED!

Sounds like you’ve had quite the bad luck then as my experience isn’t close to yours. Generally most I run with are mostly zerk or all zerk in the 50s. Luck of the draw I guess.
Normal Staff Ele > Any Tempest Kind
At least for fractals…
The real question is: is Kui even going to listen?
Something extra to think about when with banners you don’t have to. Why make it intentionally harder than it has to be? Just seems silly. Banners are simply better because they can’t die, they’re mobile, and they are 100% the entire time they’re up.
GS is perfectly viable and the dps loss is negligible at best since the last patch. it would still be a good idea to learn sword andh ow to play within the bounds of how it works. use gs in situations where the leap could kill you like harpy fractal. dagger oh evades break the leap animation so you could use that until you’re used to it. and turn off auto attack.
The DPS difference is not negligible. Stop this myth.
It’s a convenient weapon to use over 1h sword, but it’s a notable DPS loss.
It is easy to tell in parties if everyone is zerk or not or that every one is putting on max DPS or not. Sadly, it’s still not worth bringing a Ranger into high levels. Until the 100% of the DPS is given to the Ranger and it brings more utilities. Right now I do like some pug zerk parties 2 ele, 1 guard, 1 ea ps war, 1 thief… but everyone has to be on point, but it does allow for some forgiveness… maybe swap the thief for a mes because time warp.
Darkness is known for his dark outlook on the Ranger…
SEE WHAT I DID THERE????
Robert Gee is currently in charge of Necro. He’s already spoken on the reaper changes in the necro forums. They are really good changes and I’m excited to try reaper out again next time.
Not sure who the mysterious ranger dev is.
I do believe it’s Kui.
In end-game content, which is fractals, there’s just no reason to bring a Ranger. At all. A 2nd warrior or 2nd guard I would prefer because they’d bring better utility and NO PET. And no, Wasp, it’s not missed potential because there’s no potential that’s better than what another class can bring. Sooo, that might be your opinion of what other PVE players, like myself, say because that has been our experience.
