For the most part I agree with Colin’s post, but some of the effects are not that needed or didn’t need to be nerfed, auras in particular. Fireball for ele’s yes, that’s fine, the executioner sythe effect on my necro, that’s fine as well, the chill field isn’t the threat, the threat is the attack which will leave you stunned and in a pulsing chill field.

But some things like chrome wells didn’t need a nerf, but rather, given priority visually due to what they do, same with engi laser and dragonhunter traps. Gamechanging big attacks need the accompanying visuals and animations. The same goes for friendly support attacks that heal or buff allies.

Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

TheLastNobody.8319

Honestly I find HoT an enjoyable challenge, and like the gathering and collections it added, just finished my dark harvest collection about a couple days ago. I wouldn’t say it’s Grindy, no more so than vanilla GW2. I mean what were we doing before? Running dungeons, champ trains, and event trains to grind gold to buy whatever the heck we wanted, crafting wasn’t important to most people unless you wanted an ascended or legendary, but for the most part, exotics will more than cut it in all the content.

As far as mob difficulty, mobs in HoT are a vast improvement and I like how they encourage, and yes sometimes force, people to work together towards a goal as that’s 1. What an MMO is about, and 2. Gives a bit of a learning curve into dungeon mechanics, which leads into fractal mechanics, then ultimately raids.

Now though there are 2 main things I don’t like with HoT. First, the gold sinks, it seems like there are far more in the game now than before, and crafting is now no longer something nice to have on the side, it’s dang near mandatory. Now I got 500 artificer, tailor and 400 cooking, plus I have a whole stockpile of mats, but for those who aren’t so fortunate, it’s going to be a lot harder to level the necessary crafting professions, especially if you don’t have HoT, what with the loss of income from dungeons which I know a lot of people relied on, and that gold is still nowhere to be found. Plus you have guild halls now, which require so many materials to just get in a halfway operational order. I mean, you have to scrounge materials, to get the first tier upgrade which hardly does anything, which then let’s you scrounge more materials to get to the second tier which lets you finally use it.

Second, how hard ANET seem to be pushing the gem store, I mean how many releases has it had now since HoT launched, and what with the Bandit Bundle Blunder where you have to buy items you don’t necessarily want to get something you actually want. Add in the fact they are now just outright advertising the Gems to Gold and it just seems sort of…idk, underhanded? It’s just like saying “we know you’re having a hard time and are bleeding your gold dry, so whip out your credit card and we’ll help fix that!”

Moondancer that is the complete wrong way of doing dungeons. Most of the time if u dont know what your doing ppl will notice and leave, whereas if u ask majority of the time ppl will tell you how things work. I hate pugs that dont say they are inexperienced and screw up some mechanic i assume the whole group knows. (making the dungeon take way longer then if u had asked)

Yes originally i started asking for help and the only thing that happens is everyone leaves and i am there again by myself trying to find a new group. When you say the majority of time people will tell you how things work is just wrong information. The majority of time when you say hey i am new and don’t know how this works they just leave and look for a group without a new player in it.

Eh moondancer is right, when it comes to dungeons if you don’t know wtf you’re doing or aren’t doing something perfectly or exactly how people want you to they’ll cuss you out and leave or try and kick you, even quicker if you say you are new. And I see newby advertising lfg’s stay empty for a good while now.

You also have the problem where people who grinded dungeons for gold mainly are gone now, so in addition to their small fortune they have a pile of tokens and probably all the weapon and armor skins they want/need, so why come back and do the same content they’ve done hundreds of times before to help someone new?

Honestly, I’m enjoying the content offered by HoT for the most part, and I do like guild halls, but….I’m just having a hard time agreeing with some of their business practices.

I mean with the bundle debacle, the advertising of the gems to gold exchange, and the troubles they’re having with the Megaserver system putting people in empty maps, or heck, the other day I had the volunteer thing pop up while our map was near capacity. Something just isn’t right.

Add in the fact all the timegates and gold sinks in the game now and the repackaging of vanilla features like guild buffs into HoT.

Much as I want to support ANet and all they do, they have been blindly pursuing E-Sports when they should have been focused on making the game fun.

I would rather them take a hit, realize the blind sight that pursuing E-Sports is, than them being successful and thinking that this current model is working.

Sometimes it takes losing money financially before businesses start thinking about the right ways to move forward as a company.

Usually, i agree with this but….I don’t know really. Anet is one of the most stubborn companies I’ve ever come across.

Death Shroud vs Reaper Shroud

in Necromancer

Posted by: TheLastNobody.8319

TheLastNobody.8319

Reaper shroud just seems to stomp all over deathshroud in PvE and Pvp, wvw Zerg I’d still go ds but roaming, RS. I love core necro, but with baseline cleave, a dash into blind that when traited gives you more chill, an 8 second stability that can then be used to AoE fear, spin to win 4 and that unbreakable stun chill, which combos into chilling bolts and frost armor from the dash, plus it just synergizes so well with everything we have from blood magic, to curses, dhuumfire which was just trash tier on DS, spite.

The big thing with DS is just simply its ranged pressure but without any mobility apart from the lackluster Dark Path, it wasn’t hard to get away if people wanted to. And PvE it’s usually more beneficial to just melee the enemies instead of hitting them from range. PvP, it’s hard to stay on point because it lacks stability. It just feels….tacked on now.

I just hope ANET buffs the core necro instead of nerfing reaper into oblivion to bring it in line with core necro.

Quartz Crystals Price hike

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheLastNobody.8319

TheLastNobody.8319

Ah I hate quartz crystals so much. Everything else my guild could cooperate towards getting but these stupid celestial recipes are really screwing us up because it all pretty much relies on one person! If it was just getting the crystals charged I’d be fine with.

Why is it relying only on one person?

Because once we charge the quartz crystals, they become account bound.

What stops other people from using them to craft? The recipe sheets are cheap, only around 20s each.

As a guildless ronin, that still looks like a lot of extra hassle to ask 10-20+ people to go through compared to other mats where you just dump them into the guild bank.

That would be relying on one person(to do all the crafting) which was the complaint!

I’m not trying to explain exactly what TheLastNobody was trying to say, just that it looks like a lot more of a hassle.

Appreciated Tog.

Pretty much it’s like this. We could all band together and deposit what resources we had into the guild bank, and then people with the suited crafting level or whatever, could pull the materials out and take what they needed. There was a huge pool to pull from with everyone working together.

Now the charged crystals though being account bound and imperative to getting upgrades, we can pool all our crystals together, but it won’t matter unless one person, and one person only, pulls the crystals and charged them one at a time. So now, in addition to being a time gated, we’re now resource gated as well, because anybody that doesn’t just dump their raw crystal ore into the guild bank and just charges it, will be hindering progress, as well as if the person that is supposed to charge the crystals doesn’t log on and charge them, then they also need to have the necessary requirements to craft the insignias and inscriptions.

both chill/alacrity should affect ini regeneration IMO, but i dont know how this could be balanced in pvp.

No no no no no no no. If chill affected initiative, thieves would probably just be absolutely destroyed. just making it so initiative can be affected by alaclarity would be enough.

OR. If they made it so it was affected by both chill AND alclarity, then if argue for making it so when thief swapped weapons they would have their initiative refilled at least partially.

Problem is, changes must follow some logic. Like Initiative beeing affected by buffs/debuffs that affect CDs. So if Alacrity, than chill and slow surely comes in the package.

I do agree but the difference between alclarity and chill is one is a special effect the other is a condition, and being a reaper, I can output so much dang chill that keeping it off after cleansing is near impossible.

How is Necro/Reaper for PVE now?

(If you’re curious, now the title of bottom-tier belongs to Rangers.)

I’m not sure why people keep saying this, but right now Ranger/Druid is better than ever and a very versatile class too.

If anything, Thief is now “bottom-tier”, at least according to all the Thief players complaining (justifiably so, probably) about how nobody wants a Thief/Daredevil in their raiding groups.

While I will say ranger is more playable than thief at this point right now (thief is way too tied to stealth for its offensive and defensive capabilities even with daredevil). Druids just keep on getting the snot knocked outta them with the nerf hammer. I mean last patch they now can’t gain AF unless their target is already hurt. And they can’t use staff one unless they have a target. I’m not even that aware of the bugs they have.

I mean, imagine if you were a medic in TF2 and suddenly, you can’t build uber unless your target is already hurt. That’s pretty much what ranger and Druid are going through right now.

As far as the whole zerk meta evolving, it didn’t evolve because content is hard, it evolved because content was easy, and people wanted to get gold the fastest way possible from dungeons. Thus, the zerker meta was born and enforced, not by ANET, not by boss or dungeon mechanics, but by us the players so we could make gold the quickest and fastest way possible. Anet doesn’t want any class be be bad. If they could choose through a simple button press, they would make the classes balanced and the people happy. Stop pretending like “Anet rally hates thief”, and anything of that sort. It reeeeaally does not help.

I think everyone knows this but the fact that Anet are BY FAR the most stubborn designers I’ve ever come across does not help. Other companies I’ve seen, not necessarily MMO companies, will change or overhaul if something isn’t working or needs tweaking. In smite, which yes I know it’s a different genre but still the same principal, some gods have gone through complete design and overhaul changes when they found they were not being utilized or played how they envisioned them. If wanted, I’ll be happy to name a few.

Thief though is a great example of Anet stubbornness, as they are tied and weighed down by stealth. Their damage, their survivability, sustain, utility, everything is based on and revolved around by stealth, it’s easy to see that by just taking a peak at their shadow arts tree and comparing it to acrobatics, and no I won’t say daredevil is a viable evasive alternative, because being an evasive ninja type character SHOULD BE BASELINE.

Also not trying to come off as hostile to ya, sorry if it seems like that, I just despise fighting thieves in this game more so than any other game that offers the same archetype. (Stealthy assassin)

Where is the gold?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheLastNobody.8319

All the gold was used in the building of tarir.

On a serious note, my best advice for you right now is trying to do maps that have shiny baubles as their reward, as each one is 1g a piece at he vendors. Also try and take up crafting and using your resources to sell things on the TP, you can also make some decent cash flow from the HoT meta events. And we’ll have raids soon which will give gold rewards as well, but only decent amounts are once a week.

They pretty much took the gold from dungeons and spread it out all over the maps, with a higher concentration in the newer zones and content, while at the same time creating more gold sinks to flush it down the drain. You’ll need to be careful until you can find a newer and more reliable way to get gold (apart from SW and of course using your credit card).

Ehhh to be fair we shouldn’t have to lean so heavily on the LFG to find maps as we do now in HoT. No I’m not saying nerf the events, just something should be done so people aren’t being thrown into maps that don’t have quite the numbers it needs to complete it.

Why not?
What if I want to find an empty map for RP purposes?
What if I dont want to complete meta event but want to farm escort or whatnot?
What if I dont even know what else I might wanna do on the map.

If you want to complete meta event – find like-minded people. This is exactly the purpose of LFG tool. You forgetting that people may have difference purposes of utilizing the same map and assuming that everyone wants to complete the meta.

Well I’m not saying people shouldn’t be able to not find an empty map, just that getting into a fuller map with enough people to do the event shouldn’t be as hard as it currently is. Getting into a map with more people should be the default as that is why most people are there in the first place, then if people want to use a map to RP or explore, they should be able to use the LFG tool for that, or even just select a less populated map if they wanted to.

One thing I think is weird with tangled depths is the fact there doesn’t really seem to be many funnel events compared to verdant brink, tarir, and even dragon’s stand. All the others have events that are pretty easy to solo, or just 2-3 people can do together, and this leads them to the greater groups.

Tangled depths just sorta throws you in, and unlike verdant brink, which has many levels but can be easily navigated by using gliding and bouncing mushrooms, and tarir and dragon’s stand which are pretty level and straight forward, tangled depths is mostly underground, requiring you to navigate through various tunnels to get to the event. and as others have said, it’s very punishing in comparison to the other area events, where if one lane fails you all fail and have to start over. I enjoy the other maps but tangled depths seems to lack the proper direction and flow like the other maps do.

The thing that some people don’t like are the map wide meta events, like nighttime in verdant brink, tarir, tangled depths is a….and dragon’s stand pretty much you can only do in a group, though you can still explore it.

I think ALL our heals should work in shroud, as well as regeneration really.

We don’t know for how long she was starved before the fight, no matter how special she is if she’s starving she won’t get to do much.

That might be true if she was Human, but she isn’t, she’s a Norn. They have entirely different physiologies to Humans. Also, the assumption is from the time of the crash to then, so a handful of days at worse.

Handful of days? It’s not the first chapter, we’ve been out there looking for’em for a while so what part of the story implies that? It could be a week.
“She’s norn so she’s special” doesn’t cut it, Norn eat and drink too, Norn will get weaker if they don’t do it for a long period of time.

Plus the fact she’s been through a horrible crash, probably did not receive any medical treatment, and lord knows what else. Seems people are getting too hung up on and only focusing on the fact she said she hasn’t had food or water.

This trait was nerfed because WvW.

kitten WvW.

WvW, PvE and PvP according to Robert. Mainly PvP because after seeing a couple of nos’s games with him standing next to his revenant teammate he just couldn’t die. Seriously, why not just increase the interval of which revenant’s could apply boons from facets and adjust their duration to match?

Also can’t forget tempest and heat sync. Really I think might was the only problem with the trait since ten might meant 10% life force or 1000 Heath. And we all know how easy it is to stack or get might in this game….

I mean I get, understand and think the nerf was justifiable, but it just screwed us over horribly the way they nerfed it, you’re pretty much forced into spite to get any mileage outta this trait now.

Anet’s seeing my angry face b/c of this direct LIE about increased rewards. Unless they meant like, “increase” in numbers, as in the number of junk items.

Gotta protect dat economy, stop dat inflation.
