I’ve never taken part in one of these, but I see what you mean about the pointlessly complex arguments and parroting in this thread.

My apologies. This subject pops up every few weeks with someone demanding weapon swap with either no balance or some very complex system to make it pseudo balanced. Then a long discussion ensues with various people supporting the idea, until enough players show exactly why it’s a bad idea. The main reason though, is because of the huge amount of potential combos. One of thsoe is bound to give an advantage that shouldn’t exist.

How about this, to keep it simple. A staff slot and no other changes? Everyone loves staff but it has so many weak points in different scenarios. It’s way too nerfed to be a main weapon imo, so it wouldn’t be game breaking at all.

The key word being imo hehe. Staff has a lot of combo fields that are prone to abuse. Blast finishers being the first thing that come to mind.

Agree with most of it but:

Specifically, you are very weak against other ranged enemies. you have very few defense options against ranged enemies. Your few defensive skills that would be useful are short in duration and on relatively long cooldowns.

Staff has AoE blinds and Magnetic Aura, focus has invulnarability and 2 anti projectile skills, and daggers allow you to get close quickly so your melee defense (Shocking Aura) will work.

You also aren’t able to maintain vigor for consistent dodging either.

There’s a 10 point trait in Arcana that will give you vigor on critical hits, which in practice will give you permanent vigor.

Knight's trinket VS Celestial trinket?

in Elementalist

Daggers deal enough conditions to make Celestial outperform PVT. For staff though, you need Eruption to make Celestial work and in PvP that’ll be iffy. I recommend to get at least 14-15k health though, as it’ll make dungeons a lot more fun (fewer things will instantly down you).

Other than that, once you get used to it damage seems to be the way to go.

For me, it’s the combo fields that make it interesting and versatile. If you’re in Air, do you go Fire→Earth for burning/might, or Earth→Fire for vulnerabilty/might? Or do you rather give your team swiftness so they can dodge stuff more easily? Where do you place your fields? To maximize your effects or your team’s? What kind of elemental do you call with your glyph? What kind of finishers does your team have? Etc.

OP you are completely correct. There are some people that like to pretend the class isn’t garbage, but it is.

It’s not pretending. It’s actually sticking with the profession (classes are for people that are still learning) and improving, not trying to turn it into something else but actually make the profession work as it’s intended.

And then, eles do just fine. They’re not instagib uberkillers, but they’re no pushovers either.

I don’t like the idea of having to chain combos perfectly to take a fraction of a targets health down

Then obviously, elese aren’t your cup of tea. The staff ele revolves around combos, it’s crippled without it. But removing them would make them very bland, imho.

A staff necro, for example, has instant damage and conditions in a larger area (using greater marks) than most of our skills (using blasting staff).

Yet they have the same 5-target cap. In fact, the only ranged nuke that bypasses the limit is, in fact, Meteor Shower.

Instant-death mechanics teach you quickly to both plan and react. There’s a pattern for a reason; follow it. You have the capability to learn, so get using it! Saying its cheap is like saying getting hit by a car in real life is cheap: why the hell are you still standing there, looking at the swiftly approaching vehicle?! Get out of the dang way way! Sure, sometimes you don’t see it at first, but that’s why you are supposed to look.

By your logic, there should be no mor car crashes because everyone can see all cars coming.

Lag and invalidating non-berserker gear are the primary reasons why 1-hit kill mechanics should be removed from the game yesterday.

in Queen's Jubilee

At everyone saying one-shot mechanics are bad:

One-shot mechanics are bad IF AND ONLY IF they offer no counterplay. If you’re getting one-shotted with no means of preventing, avoiding, or negating it, then yes, that is bad. However, that’s not what this is. This is one-shot mechanics with very significant counterplay. You can avoid them.

They are bad because they:
a)Are unfair to those with slower connections/computers.
b)Invalidate all non-berserker gear.
c)Make fights depend on luck rather than skill.

Agreed, seems a bit iffy. As for programable keys, unless you macro them in some way, what’s the point? You can program any key through the normal game interface.

And isn’t turning around while turning off the camera tracking (and then turning it on again) technically an exploit? Because it allows you to do things a normal player cannot.

Like I said, iffy. Shouldn’t have happened. Then again, the keyboard isn’t worth the money anyway, so I guess that compensates for it.

…please come up with something a bit more creative than 1-shot kill mechanics. Not only is it unfair to people with slower connections/computers, it also invalidates all non-berserker gear in the game. Losing roughly 90% of your health is enough incentive to avoid something, without instantly slapping a player in the face if they miss a dodge.

And for the love of leeroy, don’t add said mechanics to boss fights that last 15 minutes or more.

(Still find that funny: an achievement for beating a boss under 15 minutes? What genius thinks that bosses should last more than 10 minutes to begin with?)

The main issue: players want to farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

In PvE you run berserker unless you can’t dodge, are too lazy to learn encounters and want a crutch instead.

Or maybe keep your teammates alive that aren’t as skilled? My main issue with berserker is that it only works if the rest of your team can handle themselves. Being able to take a few hits while your teammembers dusts themselves off seems useful to me when things go…less than perfect.

I’m pretty sure competent elementalists use full berserker in dungeons too, with lightning hammer.

Elementalists have the worst armor and health of all professions, so bringing a little defense makes sense for them. Seeing as how their weaponbuilds are a mix of all playstyles (including conditions and party healing), it makes sense to go with all stats gears. You literally make use of everything all the time. Due to their attunement swapping, they can make up for that by equipping boon duration runes and a Sigil of Battle, which results in them having same attack power but a lot more utility.

I’m not arguing about PvP or WvW since they’re not particularly my strong points, but even then, light armour classes have no problem using more berserker gear in guild groups since they’re going to be in the back line and not taking as many hits as the front.

The thing is that in many ways, you’re right. A lot of the game seems to be designed around ‘dodge or die’ mechanics, so there’s little point in bringing any defensive gear. Not all professions are as fortunate as the warrior though, and some do a lot better if they bring just a little bit extra defense. However, it doesn’t always automatically equal ‘best for any situation under any circumstance’ as you make it out to be.

It’s more of a character profile sketch, really. What I meant to say is that those that enjoy farming also copy farming builds and don’t like having to actively adjust their playstyle during or even inbetween fights.

Sometimes it’s just simpler and easier to express yourself with swear words, a lot of people (especially us younger people) don’t want to spend minutes argueing with a person that we dislike and disagree with and that’s when ending a conversation with a couple of swear wordy sentences is easiest and fastest.
