I have a dream – Our Anet Senpai will make WvW Great Again!
WvW Forum is more competitive than WvW
with so much talk about how to “save” WvW, and rumors that Anet has completely abandoned the game mode I can’t help but sit here shaking my head, thinking people left because of balance. NOT score system! Balance.
Balance should be the main focus IMO.
To be fair condi balance wasn’t that huge of an issue when they did the polls 5+ months ago… They seem to make issues faster than they can fix them.
10/10
STILL NOT KITTEN FIXED -_-
I know it’s not the WvW team’s problem but please contact whoever is in charge of this… This issue probably has the most impact in WvW than any other mode…
FAQs and Other Stuff
Current Rewards
Reward Track
Reward tracks are definitely a great addition to the game mode, but is it really enough? Reward tracks are slow and require absolutely minimal attention to maintain. There is absolutely nothing fun and provides no challenge in getting rewards from the reward track in WvW, all you have to do is kill a sentry every five minutes or so. Unlike PvP, reward track is engaging and works well in PvP because how your team performed in PvP directly reflects the amount of reward track you advance.
Badges of Honour
I know we got a few extra things we can purchase using badges of honour. They are great for exotic gearing, traps/disablers, food and sometimes cultural armour if we didn’t already have it. However, they are permanent and are not exciting. We also should not use badges of honour as our event token because a lot of people probably already have thousands of them.
FAQ
We have more important issues to fix and don’t have time to waste on this
Contents and rewards are also a part of these ‘important’ issues. I’m just putting suggestions out here for Anet to consider.
The harder you blob, the faster you get tokens
Of course there’s always been an efficient way vs preferred way to farm, and this is no different. Some methods of acquisition are designed to prevent this. Smaller groups / roamers may obtain the tokens at a slower rate but it should not be a rate where it’s impossible to get even a single reward from the vendor.
I just wasted my time
Well I don’t care. I’m just a player who’s passionate about the game and would like to see the game succeed. My suggestions may not guarantee success but I’m just putting any ideas I have out here. Maybe people can salvage parts of the idea and make an even better one.
Oh, and if you want to make money off this. You can. Just make it so that we can only access the merchant/token with the expansion, like what you did it with the provisioner merchant.
PS – is this thread a reasonable way to properly give suggestions/arguments?

Issues It Will Fix:
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
I think it’s safe to say that all of us WvWers are always hungry for some content and rewards. PVE always have new rewards and vendors for every new festival or episode of the story. Why can’t we apply the same concept in WvW?
How It Works?
We can have a new festival event every once a while (i.e. quarterly or something). The event can last for 2-4 months. It doesn’t have to be permanent (it shouldn’t be), and the events can always be recycled next year or so. So if someone misses out on a festival, they will always get another chance later. It doesn’t even have to be continuous, and can have a month break before the next event.
During this event, we get a new reward vendor. Rewards can be mini, tonics, ascended trinkets, anything (just like the vendors we have in PVE). These rewards can be traded for the respective event tokens.
Acquiring Tokens – the complicated part.
Rewards had always been a complicated issue in WvW. How do you give individual players reward without being too dependent on the performance of the server? How do you stop people from transferring to a stronger server for a better chance at being rewarded?
Personally, I suggest diversifying the methods for the acquisition of token.
As for the specific drop rates? I do not know. But the order from the most efficient to the least should be 1 -> 2-> 3 -> 4. Though any of the choice shouldn’t be overpowered (except for the 4, that can be extremely underpowered, but is a nice minimal bonus nonetheless).
>>>>Importantly – This needs to feel like a festival/event.<<<< Can’t Stress Enough
It is important to give this event a story, theme, or a personality. Make it feel like a festival, instead of a boring new farm. A good analogy to describe why this is important would be using the Mario series for example. If Nintendo did not give mario a personality, a world to traverse, a boss to defeat and a princess to save, the game would have become another interesting but forgettable platformer. It works the same in WvW. If you just added in rewards without a story or without a theme, it would have just become another forgettable new vendor added into the spawn. Not to mention no one who aren’t actively playing WvW probably won’t even hear about it.
The story doesn’t even have to be original, it can very well be following the same theme in PVE, where things are “overflowing into the mist”. This was done in the past during the scarlet period and some past yearly festivals. There is no need to completely come up with a new PVE encounter or gimmicks in WvW (most people will prefer not to). It would work simply by reskinning sieges/NPCs/structures, have a few NPC yell different dialogues, a small festival magic find buff or something seemingly insignificant, but powerful. I’m sure people will find ways to enjoy themselves just by running around with the new combat tonics from the event
Just imagine how different it would sound between: “A new reward vendor has been added in the spawn which can be traded with tokens enemies drop” and “Colin’s zombie zerg minions, [ENTER YOU HATED SERVER], have flooded the mist. It is up to you and your allies to repel his invasion!”

You know if you want to play eotm, you can just go eotm?
Yea, lets putin the oasis event instead
Can we at least just fix the transfer price for linked servers already? For balthazar’s sake… Are there even any advantages with keeping it the current way?
I also suspect incoming damage cap increases server load because it adds that additional step of denial (sort of like DDOS).
What if we hit two birds with one stone and made a new condition called Ponderance that acted like skill lag. Stacks would increase the number of milliseconds between skills firing. “I have 14 stacks of Ponderance, I can’t fire anything off.” Surely spacing out skills being fired would lessen the server load? After all there’s nothing Anet likes more than releasing new conditions.
Not sure if troll but… Ew. Cluncky as hell combat. People got mad over few seconds of additional CD on lava font… Even worse when skills just won’t fire in 3 way fights. Imaging having this stuff..
It’s very entertaining to watch so many people from both sides claiming that the respective opposing side is the noisy vocal minority. But it still remain a fact that DBL is a polarising topic with many people either extremely like it or extremely hate it. I mean, you don’t see threads after threads of people calling to remove ABL or EBG.
Can we not have a middle ground here? It’s great that many gimmicky mechanics are slowly being removed from the borderland. But there are still many core frustrations remaining – such as the fire keep, or the isolated objectives that serves minimal advantage in capturing the next objectives (i.e. north/south towers). Also (my personal pain point), the vertical design is still a pain to traverse through – NOT TO MENTION HAMMER WARRIOR STILL KITTEN ON SLOPES. etc. I prefer to see the DBL stay, but really wish it will at least have some huge overhaul at the scale of things like repositioning objectives, redesign some terrains, etc…. It’s also a good marketing push to get people to try DBL again… Noone is going to change someone who outright refuses to play DBL just because a few little gimmicks here and there were removed…
I also voted in favour of hoping to get a third map… Only now I realise the wording -_-… I’m a susceptible person, just like a standard, normal human who doesn’t have a hobby of critically analysing every word and their intents that’s posted on the forum for a game I’m supposed to be having fun playing.
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
This smells of a match-up post
Not really, just another post bashing on DBL
I play wvw because i love the RvR aspect of the game. There is nothing else out there at the moment that promotes this type of play.
Yes there is, ESO. Its RvR system is superior to WvW in fact. However its combat is not as fluid as GW2 though. On the plus side it has far more dev attention paid to it than WvW and has senior devs working directly on it.
This is what I’m going to be checking out this weekend, it’s free to try until april 18th. It’s funny was watching some videos last night of builds for zerg busting, and there are aoe bombs in the game that allow a small groups to ambush and demolish big zergs with the right timing.
Honestly doesn’t look too bad from the video. Anyone played ESO? How would you compare it to gw2 wvw?
LMAO…this is their attempt to revive WvW?
Better than nothing
Just waiting on crowfall tbh
Combat system and graphics looks horrible on it too. I mean its still in dev.. But, let’s just dream till we all die
These days I treat the joke that is WvW/GW2 like one step up the rung from minesweeper, so I play it (mostly WvW) when I need a break from work, because it is brainless, low skilled and I can play for 15 mins then go back to working, doesn’t matter if I need to stop for a phone call or need to go AFK for ages, because well it is WvW/GW2.
I also play it if I feel like playing a game, but am too tired to play a proper game.
Same i dont see myself playing gw2 for a long time im trying to find a other game and some huge wvw oriented guilds too. we lost a couple and well anyhow yeah i get where you are going with that. We will board a new ship and fly to a different horizon.
Any suggestions?
Large scale open sandbox PvP with gw2 combat and no p2w gear treadmill. What more should I ask for?
Suggest me another game like this and I’m ready to jump ship.
Full water combat map.
And Steve will be our keep Lord. We’ll like it, because who doesn’t like pve.
Pics or it didn’t happen.
Rule 1 of Posting on Forum: Whatever number you see, multiply it by 3.
I don’t even think we should bring back spending gold for upgrades. Maybe badges/supplies/tokens or anything. More customisation on when/what to upgrade, and let us manually upgrade it. So its not just take it and forget about it
Cliffs artificially expanded the size of the map, which exaggerates the feeling of the BL being deserted due to low population.
Artificially? Its literally huge compared to ABL.
Case of point, go to the SW tower. Stand on the west wall. See that sentry within LoS, no cliffs between? If you where to go there, bay outer is still 2 times that distance away straight and 3 times to walk.
Now go to ABL, SW tower. Stand outside the lord room and look towards bay. See bay outer wall? Thats the same bloody distance to the sentry in the DBL case.
There is nothing “artificial” about the DBL size. It was made big.
Cool. I never said it was small. I just said it expanded it. I also don’t mind the map being big, but I personally just don’t like how I have to constantly circumvent myself around so many, always empty staircases, hay, hills to go to the place a want. It almost as if WvW became a true running simulator.
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
Looks fine, though you’d want Greatsword for zerging over Sw/Sh because Arc Divider is freaking broken and hits 10k on backliners on a 3s CD. You also want either Draining or Absorption over Hydromancy on your hammer.
The Defense Grandmaster trait should be Cleansing Ire, absolutely. The condi cleanse and adrenaline generation from Cleansing Ire is just too good, and in Berserk Mode you can remove 6 condis every 5s just from that (and otherwise still 3-4 every 5s) by using weapon swap to generate adrenaline to spam bursts. Rousing Resilience is a decent choice when roaming, against power builds, but it’s meh in zerging.
Also, Destruction of the Empowered over Brawler’s Recovery. Always. Esp. if you take Cleansing Ire, there’s all your cleanse and you don’t need that minor bit. With DotE, you can literally cut through a boonstacked frontline as if it had no protection at all.
Marauder+Durablity with Zerker Trinkets is fairly nice, yup. I personally run Scrapper over Durability, and it’s a more stat-efficient but selfish option.
the scrapper seems nice, im gonna try that, you are totally right about the talents, im addressing new players in WvW, a sword/shield defense and movement are helpful for their survivabilty in case they messed up :P, but you are right again about the dmg with 3s CD.
thanks a lot for your reply
Honestly, a warhorn is a way stronger survival weapon than shield in zerg with the amount of unblockable skills and traits nowadays. Warhorn has huge amount of condi cleanse, especially targeting soft CC and a blast finisher, with vigor and swiftness all on a short CD
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
Time for everyone, especially temps and casuals to transfer to BG for free!
I feel it should be more… engaging…
Before the auto upgrades, people hanged around the structures upgrading. People planned on which upgrades to go for first and in which order. People cared about the structures they were upgrading and built various sieges to defend it. It’s almost like a play style in WvW in itself…
Now, it’s just take it and forget it, since it’ll upgrade itself eventually anyways.
I love the DBL and play with many people who do as well. Alpine is so old. 4.5 years old. Same with EB. Many of the folks I play with don’t like EB due to the blobs and all the pugs who won’t get in TS or squad and suck. DBL has lots of interesting places to go and fight. It’s very fast to get around the map, way faster than ABL. If you don’t know this, then you don’t know the map at all.
ABL and EB need to go and be replaced with new maps. It’s coming up on 5 years playing on the same map. But Anet needs to learn from it’s mistakes with DBL and the horrid roll out. Actually, with the current population, there should just be 3 tri-balanced maps of varying sizes. But that’s another topic.
BTW, there’s a ton of bullkitten in this thread where a few individuals somehow know how everyone on every server thinks. There was a ton of feedback on DBL, and more than one poll. Get over it.
Yea, you’re right, because after tons of feedbacks and polls, DBL is now the universally loved map that absolutely no one has issues with either objectively or subjectively. DBL is a highly populated, shiny new map that everyone prefers over EB and APL. Furthermore, unlike EB, DBL has no blobs and all the pugs will get on TS or squad and is absolutely fantastic, it’s true. Due to the great commitment and dedication of our fellow server comrades, we control every shrine absolutely all the time.
Our primary motivation for avoiding running another tournament, is that at the end of every tournament we saw a permanent dip in the number of players playing WvW. Presumably this was due to players burning themselves out during the tournament.
However, we can still run a poll to see if the majority of the community wants another 4 week tournament, even if it might be bad for the long term WvW population numbers. Though even if ‘running another tournament’ won the poll, we’d probably hold off until we get the scoring updates in.
AKA. Never another tournament. But seriously building incentive for creating the server community seriously should seriously be seriously the seriously top priority, before seriously have another tournament. Because seriously, it will seriously just get ruined by huge movements of people/guilds since servers don’t matter to anyone.
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
I’m not saying either BL is better, but anyone who says the two BLs are even closely balanced is a joke.
In DBL:
Towers serves absolutely no strategic importance on the map (beside sitting there ppting away because home server cbf taking it back).
Cliffs artificially expanded the size of the map, which exaggerates the feeling of the BL being deserted due to low population. Also MORE WALKING especially in a map that rarely finds anyone already… Cliffs also created more choke points, except this choke point makes you fall off cliffs, which to a lot of people is not fun. Oh, and did I mention the kitten gimmick that blows people off cliffs for absolute no reason…?
Perma stealth zergs with protection and swiftness!
The lord of every objectives are significantly harder to fight.. (PVE so hard). Not a lot of people like to deal with lords that jumps around, makes unnecessary barriers, frequent hard hitting CC, while fighting with reds to capture a keep.
I’m sure there are a lot more… But don’t bother since this won’t be read anyways
Once another RvR game aka CU is released that’ll be the nail on the coffin for gw2. wvw has been neglected for way to long and even in pvp the top teams already moved onto other games that have a competitive scene. Not sure why supporting wvw community is such an issue but it’ll backfire when the only players left are pve’ers.
Where have I heard this before… mhhhh
“WvW will die when ESO releases”
“WvW will die when Archeage releases”
“WvW will die when BDO releases”
mhhhhhh
I’ve always wondered… Is it specifically the extreme competitiveness of the tournament that made WvW loose population PERMANENTLY because they’re ‘burnt out’? I mean, I understand people wanting to take a break after pulling extra hours during seasons, but is that really the main reason people PERMANENTLY quits the gamemode? Does that mean we’ll never ever see another tournament because more people will just simply burnout??? Can someone please enlighten me?
Are we just going to ignore the content drought? I’m not going to pretend we didn’t get anything new – because we did and everyone will have their own opinions on how they liked the new changes. I’m specifically talking about a supported competitive ‘tournament’ or something that actually makes people care? At this point, I’m wondering if the new grand strategy to retain population is to not have anything exciting so no one gets burnt out.
The lack of proper balancing around changing of meta (unlike PvP between seasons)?
The powercreep that came with the expansion stats and specialisation skills?
It’s fantastic we got a new map. But let’s face it, whether you like it or not, whether you think their opinions are logical or illogical, DBL isn’t as popular as abl – especially in its early days. It is also extremely polarising in opinions. There are a lot people who just refuses to play on that bl.
The lack of new rewards (i.e. doesn’t have to be extremely expensive like ascended gear. A backpiece skin once in a while would normally be enough for people to chew on) – i.e. PvP?
And the dead silence…
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
Please my dear benovelent anet overlord. It’d be so much fun.
1) wot?? Ghost siege?
2) no
3) no comment
4) no
5) you’re welcome

Or build a ballista and clear off their trebs in their keep.
That’s some dedication right here
It’s actually extremely easy to identify drivers and using their WvW rank to identify them never really crossed my mind before… I only occasionally lose sight of them for around 10 seconds when they stealth
I doubt relinking every week would be healthy to the community.
The thing is, the WvW we knew and loved year one is not the WvW we have today. Not because of skirmish score experiments or OP HoT builds, but because of the severe upgrade creep.
T3 was once an achievement that took a long freaking time and fortifications where nowhere near as strong as they are today on top of that. We couldnt sit and wait out passive upgrades, we had to maintain supplies and heaven forbid there was an attack that drained supps. Speedy dollys didnt exist, keep claims with roflstomp tactivators didnt exist, all we had was our feet and hands.
Loosely and probably somewhat innacurate, you could describe as we used to spend 75% of the time fighting for an objective and 25% sieging it, but today we have to spend 75% of our time sieging it and 25% fighting for it. It gets tiresome.
Yes, that’s a good point. I still enjoy keep sieges but they were a lot more enjoyable and certainly a great deal more satisfying before all the automation. I remember spending 30-45 minutes just casting Windborne Speed on workers at the gate while someone else did the same at the supply dump so we could get a structure upgraded faster. Lots of stuff like that used to happen and that constituted gameplay for players. Now it’s all been handed on to NPCs.
I do like Siege disablers and Emergency Waypoints have their moments but the rest of the trimmings we could do without. I also miss having Guardians and Mesmers throw up shields over siege. Why take that out and then replace it with Shield Generators that do exactly the same only for a lot longer and for any class?
Lack of consistency and no coherent plan is what WvW seems to have suffered from for most of the last couple of years.
+1. Taking effort to upgrade structures was actually worthwhile. Also gave more value to upgraded structures. The lack of supplies also made holding keeps interesting and more depth. Keeping steady supply flows were actually a huge part in holding a keep while it upgrades.
Seriously, who actually wanted this to become like eotm? I’ve heard people wanting more rewards/less cost for upgrading, not this free, automated eotm mechanic.
Grab a tonic and RP
Gimme heroic token in jp chest. I’ll do it everyday like a true dedicated legend.
It’s a beautifully done map, as is the desert BL, just lacks the people needed to make it more enjoyable. With it in place of EBG, i’d gladly go there.
its definately the best of all 4 wvw maps but it would need some rework. the blue and green inner keeps have no walls while the red keep is vulnerable from all sides.
not that it matters much as there is always 1 server who is stronger and can deal with a vulnerable keep but after all the crying about the desert map you can be sure the desert map was the last big map update for wvw.
Too many cliffs. Just the need to loop around so many staircases kitten me off. I just want to get to the other side kitten. The chance I’ll find something interesting walking through all the staircases is 1/500.
Right, but condi builds still viable despite resistance offering total immunity. This wouldn’t be true for power builds with a 100% protection buff.
I’m not saying they’re isn’t justification for different approaches to resistance, but it’s not a straight comparison with protection.
its the only boon that directly does kind of the same thing with resistance but then again aegis is a more similar boon.
Also you cant exploit protection while you can exploit resistance and we see it with the epi bombs
Again, the problem is epidemic, not resistance.
Also, his point is that you’re trying to compare an apple to an orange. It’s pointless.
Condi builds are very much viable even with resistance offering 100% immunity. Protection offering 100% damage reduction would make all power useless. (I’m simply re-iterating his point.)
Epidemic is absolutely NOT the problem. The problem lies almost entirely with resistance and the absurd amount of condis it allows you to stack on yourself, and the rest of it comes from how freely condis are handed out by every build now. Without resistance, you wouldn’t be able to stack this many condis up on someone before they died, so epidemic wouldn’t be able to transfer ~70+ total stacks of condis at once. The root of the problem is resistance and the proliferation of condis.
Resistance is just way too powerful to be a boon. If it has to stay in the game it needs to be turned into an effect. But ideally it should be removed completely.
So tell groups to run condi cleanse instead of resistance? Condi cleanse has actually been buffed generally across the board. I don’t see a problem here when your “better alternative” is already in the game.
ANet doesn’t have the technology to be able to know if you are too far away from portal entre before placing portal exeunt. What makes you think they would be able to tell if Portal has crossed a wall/gate and be able to check if it has been taken down recently?
Portal is fine as it is, its the exploits that need to be fixed.
+1
Also why would you want to remove the ability for mesmers to hide in inner. It’s fun.
A resounding NO. People pretend all they need in WvW is open field fights. The same people will most likely get bored after a few days. On the other hand, a supported GvG game mode with an arena / map … mhhhh sounds interesting.
Or make the linked servers share population status.
this sounds better actually
… need to seriously return to 1800 gems for all population status.
PVE complains necro so bad and need more buffs. WvW complains necro so OP and needs nerf.
Lo and behold! the priority goes to…
I like eotm and it is fun to play in it, but I don’t like it as a WvW map. It is essentially a larger and worse dbl with too much gimmicks, too much cliffs and too long travel distance. I hope whatever new maps we do get will follow the simple, elegant and easily navigable philosophy just like the current ebg and abl.
No it doesn’t change from map to map. You are grouped with the linked servers until our beloved anet overlords decide to change it. This is essentially you new server ‘alliance’ – megaserver of servers.
Weekly reset still exist, except you win the week by the amount of skirmishes you win that week. It reduces the chance of runaway scores from happening towards the end of each week.
It comes down to time spent looking for a fight. The people who largely post on forums like these are the exception; they care about the score, siege, and """server pride""". Most people want to log on a fight enemy players.
EBG is the most played map because it’s densely packed in several ways. You can go to EBG and find or force a fight in seconds. On Alpine or Desert BL you can take every single camp and most towers without anyone caring at all. The minority that cares about ppt, siege, and server pride really enjoys being able to do that, but the majority that just wants to PvP in a multiplayer game hates it.
Well yea. I mean that’s what is happening. You don’t see as much map hopping as you’ve seen in the past. Not as much guilds/groups competing/fighting in bl.
Also you speak of ‘minority – majority’ in a really black and white way. There are people like me who enjoys both aspects of fight and ppt. I can’t stand people avoiding fights to purely maximise ppt. I also don’t like fighting in some random place on the map for the sake of fighting while the entire map is being flipped. Not to mention that some of my favourite and memorable moments are during keep fights. There are also people who enjoy keeping supplies/camps running, scouting for the server while stopping occasionally to enjoy a duel or gank whenever they have the chance.
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
I can roam for ages in dbl and I’ll maybe fight a few NPCs and fall off cliffs. 3 people in omega can break into inner dbl gari and no one would care.
No idea where you play, but try to do that in T1 NA
Happened on SoS. Wasn’t prime time though, slightly before SEA. But I would expect at least a few people to come help. 1 came after 15 minutes. Farmed a lot of wxp though, nothing I could do but keep repairing inner gate that was close to going down
Back in ancient times, people actually cared about bls. There are people who actually took the time to upgrade and siege keeps, keep supplies running and camps upgraded. People would actually ran around and scouted for absolutely no rewards for hours.
Groups actually took the effort to take a keep in an enemy’s bl, held and upgraded it, then passed the defending task over to the next timezone throughout the entire week.
Gari, bay, hills fights used to be the best and would give us hours of fun.
Now is just ebebebebebebebablebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebeablbebebebebeb
I can roam for ages in dbl and I’ll maybe fight a few NPCs and fall off cliffs. 3 people in omega can break into inner dbl gari and no one would care.
I really think with the automatic upgrade and all, it really diminished the value of structures.
(edited by ThunderPanda.1872)
Probably because siege counts as population
