Not only are they ugly, but buggy. Ugh, I agree with this thread, having an option to turn them off would be fantastic.
Please +1 the OP to get this thread more attention.
Agreed. The grenade kit on female humans will eat their head. Literally consume the entire back of their skull when they move
I would Love it if I got scaled down further than we currently do. My traits will make me strong enough compared to those of the proper level for that content. But nothing is more boring than running around 2-3 shotting the npcs. Especially while you try to complete the map.
I would be all for this as long as they lock the overpopulated servers like Tarnished Coast from being destinations
Turns out these boxes are pretty much in every game. I can’t say for every mmo but i know for sure:
GW2
Tera
FFXI
AionIt appears that people generally are okay with RNG boxes dropping epic things at chance. Just wanted to add that info. And again, they are optional.
Shouldn’t that read “every Asian Grinder MMO”, based on that list?
Pretty much not helping this game’s case much, is it?
Currently the best way to play turrets solo is to tank for them. In PVE they merely provide a meat shield, which takes away from proper utilities.
This is how I currently use them, and it works alright for me. I drop them as I run around, trying to set them just at the edge of their range and then run back into the middle of the fight, so it creates sort of a “turret arena” with me and the NPCs in the middle, and the turrets on the outside shooting in. With the self repairing trait + 30% less damage, they pretty survive all fights shy of ones that involve an AOEing champion.
IMO, the temple armor screams Engineer the most. Whenever I see a ranger wearing it I go “lol that’s silly. A western armor look with a bow”. =D
Turrets are just flat out broken, and I don’t mean damagewise. I’ve been running a turreteer since day 1 of headstart. The only change I’ve made to my build was dropping healing turret in favor of the healing elixir after the last patches heavy handed nerf (50% heal reduction… jesus…)
Any patch to increase turret damage or survivability should be second, IMO, to fixing their broken state. After 9 months of using them, I’ve gotten relatively skilled and making fine use of them even in Champion battles. They dish out pretty solid damage and survive pretty well, for me at least. And WvW they are BEASTLY.
So what’s broken? The AI. It makes them WORTHLESS. They don’t prioritize anything. They will happily shoot in inanimate object over an enemy that is bashing my face in any day of the week. They will happily target and shoot upon an invulnerable air elemental instead of shooting the Modniir shaman that summoned them and is doing unspeakable things to me. And they will completely, I mean COMPLETELY, ignore Dragons. I have put them between the toes of Jormag’s claw AND Teq and they just sit there… waiting… waiting…
All I can assume is that after 9 months of it not only not being fixed but also not even being acknowledged by Anet, that this must be working as intended. :-\
take away the annoying boyscout back packs plz .
I’m sorry, but I have to ask that you please use the proper and official name for these backpacks.
“Hobosacks”
Yup. Been this way since day 1 of headstart. Arenanet has been aware of it since before that point, but considering it’s been 9 months and the issue has neither been addressed on the forums by a dev nor fixed in a patch, I can only assume that it is working as intended. We just aren’t mean to use Turrets against world bosses, I suppose. :-\
Turrets are specifically designed to fight tables, weapon racks, and invulnerable air elementals.
Actually, WoW Unique doesn’t mean the same thing than in GW2. In WoW, a Unique item is an item where it’s impossible for you to even own two copies. In GW2 you can own multiple copies but can only equip one at a time.
WoW system is much more user friendly here since the store will refuse to sell a second copy to you.
Not to mention that in WoW, you have a window of time in which you can get a refund from the vendor if you realize you’ve purchased the wrong thing. Not so in GW2.
But again… they should just get rid of the whole concept of “unique.” It’s pointless.
Pretty much this. To adopt a WoW system and not even adopt the safeguards that it involves is pretty silly.
And I <3 all the people “OMG YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT UNIQUE IS?! NUB!”. It’s making it pretty easy to spot the WoW players =D
No hard content, more content that can be done by auto attacking and without dodging!
I speak for the majority of the Guild Wars 2 playerbase, we don not want challenging content! We don’t want content that is longer than 10 minutes.More SABs!
You only speak for the majority of Nick.6972s. Even then, I’m not too sure. lol
fyi, it’s true. The majority, the average player, doesn’t want challenging content because they already think easy content is difficult. They want to be able to faceroll while thinking they’re super awesome and they want to complete the content in 30 minutes or less, because anything more doesn’t fit into their schedule. The majority consists of casual players, not gamers and their primary computer use is for facebook. Mainly, this is how WoW works, but I assume it’s the same in every MMO that uses social media.
Not everyone who only has 30 minutes to play is crap. I was a hardcore gamer before I got a full time job/other responsibilities, and still toss on a good 5-10 hours of game time during the weekends. I, too, would love to see 30 minute long max content but I’d bet all the gold on my character that my engie could roflstomp 75% of the people on the forums in a duel any day of the week
(edited by Tolmos.8395)
Engineers can hit some pretty high toughness I have to say. When running flame thrower for fun I usually have the highest toughness of any group, which keeps mobs stuck to me like white on rice. And as long as you make decent use of your dodges, taking elixirs will help you stay alive during the downtime between each endurance refill.
I doubt we’ll be seeing an xpac in 2013. They are still releasing ascended gear. Since the xpac would make all that ascended gear obsolete with its raised level cap, I can’t see them releasing it halfway through releasing the gear in the first place :-P
If I had to guess, I’d figure they’ll probably finish releasing all of ascended gear by early 2014, then drop the expansion shortly after to give everyone time to grind grind grind those last couple of pieces out before obsoleting it and having everyone start over.
Unfortunately, they expect that everyone here will have played WoW beforehand, like the above posters calling the addition of a better explanation than just the word “Unique” as being “Dumb protection”. Unfortunately, they forget that while some of us spent our time as WoW fanboys, not everyone in this game did. :-\
Those of us who played WoW got the joy of testing that “Unique” keyword on cheap items early in the game. Anet reserved that for high level items just to get more tears. =D
I hate jumping
Puzzle quest’s, fracts jumping, dungeon jumping, pvp jumping.
In gw1 we couldn’t jump, but now a-net adds it to gw2 and makes a huge huge deal about it, it is like they discovered the wheel.
A-net we get it we really do, we can jump in gw2 now /yey
enough already pls, pretty pls, pls with sugar on top.
A) I love jumping and jumping puzzles
B) They are going overboard on it as sort of a “you asked for it” thing. We begged and begged and begged for jumping all through GW1… they even lost players because of the lack of it. So now they are making up for that =D
Compared to GW1 NPCs, the GW2 NPCs are pretty darn stupid. :-\ This goes triple for pets compared to GW1 Heroes. The heroes weren’t the brightest bulbs, don’t get me wrong, but they look like geniuses in comparison to my turrets or a necro’s flesh golem >_>
Not sure what happened to the devs between 1 and 2, but their AI design has kinda gotten lax lately.
Here is my mix of Thief-Karma-Invader gear:
lol looking at how skinny his left arm looks compared to the other, all I can see is
I’m hoping that with the vast majority of replies in this thread gearing towards “I hope they don’t raise the level req”, Anet will reconsider their stance on that.
I cant believe SWTOR is on this list. This “MMO” is a total joke. I wonder how much bioware/ea paid for it.
It cost ~$200,000,000 to make.
I miss grit. Though Guild Wars 2 is a fun game…there’s nothing gritty about it. Cities are too clean. Characters are too clean cut. No one curses. No one looks awful. I know it sounds weird, but it’s more immersive for me to be in a game that is darker and feels real. See some garbage on the streets. See some ugly people, on ocassion. Guild Wars 2 is a bit too sanitized for my taste.
This is why I can’t play Norn at all. They feel like they SHOULD be a gritty race, but instead they feel like a G rated version of where they should be at. It’s like playing a race of Saturday Morning cartoon tough guys.
As a fellow engie who doesn’t focus condition builds (despite being pistols… go figure), I have 0 issues killing condition engies. It’s the exact reason WHY I avoid going condition. My burst damage can down them before their condition damage gets me, even against a confusion heavy build, and then I can just heal up and move on. At worst I might get downed and jump back up after the fight.
I’m surprised rift didn’t make the list. I’ve never played it, but i’ve heard its a pretty good game and its going f2p soon.
Not suprised at all that WoW wasn’t on there. It is literally hemorrhaging subs. It’s lost over a million since the expansion came out, and that’s when it was already down a couple million. It may be the greatest MMO of all time, but it isn’t great as a 2013 MMO.
If you read the comments on the thread, someone asked about it and there was a response. Apparently the Storm Legion upgrade wasn’t all that well received and Rift is pretty much a dead zone right now. That’s why they’re going F2P.
Rift has been a favorite of mine for a long time. GW2 was a game to play while taking a break.
I loved Rift. Kept a sub open from day 1 of headstart until a few months ago… but for me, the expansion killed it. Pre-xpac I LOVED it, but now I just can’t motivate myself to log in anymore :-\
Age of Wushu was AMAZING by way of gameplay. I played the headstart/open beta for almost its entirety… but eventually got turned off by the company running it. Money grubbing doesn’t begin to cut it. Everything about that game is designed to bring in another dime, and the way the skill system is set up it’s a true “pay to win”. (sure sure, it only “speeds up” your training… but when it would take a payer 3 weeks to reach max and a non-payer over 6 months to reach max? Yea, that’s a little iffy…)
Darkfall: Unholy Wars would have been awesome, if anyone but adventurine was in charge. I love the idea of DF, and having been a huge Shadowbane fan I was dying to get my hands on it. But they repeated the same mistake from DF1 and released the game half finished… even openly admitted it. I don’t mean half finished as in “Oh there are some bugs”, I mean it as in “Oh half the classes in the game don’t even have most of their skills!”. Though there are also a ton of bugs lol.
TOS looked fun, has a pretty devoted fanbase… but I couldn’t bring myself to play it. One day I will, though.
Same goes for Neverwinter.
The TORTanic, despite having the best graphics 2006 had to offer, is a good choice for that list now that it’s free.
EVE Online I definitely agree with. <3 EVE.
But that #1 slot… wow. I dunno wtf that Guild Wars 2 crap is. Never heard of it. Wonder how a no name game like that with prolly only like 2 players in its playerbase even made the list. Gah, reporters these days.
I gotta go with Magister Sieran. She’s just cherry!
^ This x1000
I imagine she would taste quite good with some cherries… maybe a little ceasar dressing, too!
Sorry, salads don’t belong in this thread!
But in other games you actually DO need those stats. Skilled players in GW2 will easily beat someone in ascended gear in wvw/spvp.
This sentence makes a massive assumption- that the skilled player in crap gear will have a higher skill level than the one who isn’t in crap gear. But what if they are equivalent? What if the ascended player is slightly better? Suddenly, in both situations, the non-ascended player is in a massive disadvantage.
Also, fully ascended people running around wvw will still die to zergs of 30 people wearing greens
This line of thinking I can’t stand. It’s exceptionally prevalent in EVE Online, as well. In GW2 I have a top geared toon, and in EVE I have a 50mil+ SP focused (no wasted points) toon, so this isn’t the complaint of some noob who feels outclassed by the big bad players in their uber characters. I AM the big bad player in the uber character. And that is why it bugs me so.
The idea that my ego needs a boost by requiring a raid of lesser statted characters to beat me is downright insulting. If I beat another player, I want to know it was because I was better at the game than him, and made better choices during our battle than him. I don’t want it to be because he had crap stats compared to me, and required 9 other people his level to take me down.
Rng chests and limited time item deals.
Cheap tactics can net you alot of cash.
Of course, it isnt as cheap as pay2win, so big upps to anet for staying away from that minefield for now.
what you talking about, the game has been pay to win since day one, you can buy legendary weapons which are always BIS
buying top end gear for cash is essentially the definition of pay to win
I can’t tell if sarcastic.. Legendarys are same stats currently as exotics. Top gear in GW2 has nothing to do with stats, but to do with looks. Aside from Ascended which isn’t needed anywhere outside of fractals. If gear actually mattered, then yes, p2w.
That “stats aren’t NEEDED” argument is used in every game. Of course you don’t NEED stats to compete in PvE… but it doesn’t mean you won’t be at a disadvantage to the person who has better stats than you do. I don’t NEED anything beyond white levle 70 or 60 armor to survive the NPCs in WvW… doesn’t mean I’d stand a ghost of a chance against someone who is geared out like my engineer is right now.
And the legendary will always have top end stats. For right now that means exotic. When ascended releases, it will mean ascended.
I play 1-2 hours a day and can’t imagine getting much more casual than that. I have 6 hours a day to finish any errands/chores I have after work and then spend time with the gf. After all of that, assuming work didn’t run over for some reason, I can log in maybe 2 hours tops into GW2.
With that schedule, I can barely get 1 story complete on an alt and do my daily before it’s time to call it quits.
I can’t even begin to imagine trying to play this game on less than that. >_>
I love the logic of GW2 players.
Paying for a sub on any other MMO is “being ripped off”.
Buying gems on the cash shop is “supporting the game you love”.Stay classy.
lmao +1
This made me chuckle a little.
Whether we want it or not, they have already said they will be releasing full Ascended armor and weapons.
And seeing as how the current trend on Ascended gear is (adding a new currency for every new piece they release), we are going to have a lot of new currencies each time they add more Ascended gear.
And they also said they’ll eventually add more levels.
Which, of course, would nullify all this ascended armor everyone is grind grinding for because then they would have to re-grind grind for the level 90 or whatever the max level version is.
=D

So? That’s an mmo. Carrot on a stick. Hook-line-and sinker. Whatever you want to call it. It would also nullify more than just ascended armor. Don’t really see what your point is.
Considering we didn’t know ascended gear was coming, I think the phrase you are looking for is “bait and switch”
Won’t change. Too late to change it. Regardless of how much I agree with your post, it would be better suited for a Guild Wars 3 forum. There is nothing they can do about the economy being gold based now.

to be honest even if it was just with badges it is not hard at all to get. JP every day plus a little bit of time in a zerg = a lot of badges. If anything they could make it a rank type deal that levels up or with votes.
Also true. Maybe a combination of things. Badges + kills + time in WvW?
I dunno… just something PvP related lol.
What about a check something like every four hours of game time, just to see if a person has gotten a rare in that time, and increase their chances if they haven’t until they get one?
Just thinking aloud here, but it might be hard to code too.
IMHO that would not only be hard to code, but easy to exploit as well.
I say hard to code because too many variables involved. What was the player doing in those 4 hours?… exploring, farming heavily, which kind of mobs he was farming, how many were being tagged (for example, a mesmer that has AoE skills on cooldown Vs. a guardian wielding a staff that AoEs in autoattack), was he doing events, which events, on which area, at which level and so on.
Base it on how many loot items dropped for that player.
As is anything with enterprise level programming, the shortest answer is usually best. Otherwise you end up with a situation like “Fizzbuzz: Enterprise Editiion” where you take 2 lines of code and expand that into a12+ classes and 100+ lines of code =D
It should cost WvW badges instead of gold.
I agree with this. Right now all we have are “PVE” commanders. People skilled enough at PVE to afford a 100g tag. I look forward to the day we get PVP commanders who earn their badge by being good at pvp.
This is the only game where ONLY the top carebears are considered PvP leaders

You would be surprised at how much money some people throw at the gem shop.
Guilty as charged. I’ve spent a stupid amount on gems. So it’s idjits like me keeping the lights on. I just spent $60 so I could be Ironman in Marvel Heroes. Meh. You can’t take it with ya.
You get more enjoyment out of that than people who spend $100 on a really expensive meal. They get 1-2 hours of enjoyment out of it. You get at least that, as many as 200-300 hours out of your game purchases.
IMO, don’t feel bad about video game purchases if you have the money to spend on it.
Just wondering—they pretty much are redefining the mold of MMORPG the way they’re doing it, and with no subscription fee and consantly new events how do you think they’re making enough money? The game itself is getting cheaper, too (sales n’ such) are they just doing THAT well that I shouldn’t be concerned for the company?
Yeah, never before have I felt a game was so good that I’d be concerned they weren’t charging enough. I just don’t want this to go away, lol
RNG chests.
There are some people who spend 2x-200x more per month on this game than they would if they just paid a sub.
Back during the Halloween event, there were 5 people that I alone ran into in Lions Arch who spent over $1,000 in gems to get chest keys. They just paid the same sub as 60+ people! If the majority of the rest only spend 10-20, even if some people spent NOTHING they would still come out on top!
I love downed state and hope to see it remain in the game.
People always complain about “PvP is too simple!” “NEED MOAR STRATEGERIES!”… then they get something strategic added to the game and they are like “ZOMG THIS SUCKS! PEOPLE WHO ARE SKILLED AT USING IT CAN BEAT ME BECAUSE OF IT! WORST IDEA IN MMO HISTORY!”
/smh
The best so far is “Groups can use it to be unbeatable!”. Yea, that also applies to heals. Is healing also the worst idea in MMO history?
If this were any other game, I’d say go for it. But knowing Anet- they’ll permban you and everyone who has ever associated with you :-P
In all seriousness though, I can’t imagine you’d get in much trouble with it. I don’t actually get the joke, but hey whatever floats your boat. lol
Shared experience may or may not be something I have run into before on another game, memory is kind of fuzzy on that one.
Rift does this as well.
As Anet devs have stated multiple times, the server status is NOT based on how many players are logged in at any given moment, but rather how many accounts call a server their home. So you can have a technically full server that reads as full, is loaded with accounts… and most of those accounts are inactive.
Actually they have stated that it’s Active Accounts they count for Server Status.. HOWEVER, that is not the same as currently logged in. I don’t know what they count as Active. Could be last logged in within a month, who knows?
As it is with most games, I would imagine that means all playable accounts, with inactive accounts being those that can no longer be logged into (for most games that means no sub active. For this game it means perm-banned).
DEs – Rifts zone events were much more enthralling and encompassing for me. A couple of waves of mobs from a DE is nothing to compare to an army invading from the elemental planes. They did these before GW2 ever came out. Warhammer did them before even Rift did.
As a longtime player of Rift, I disagree here. DEs feel far more dynamic and interesting. When I complete a GW2 event, it changes what event is going to happen next. When I close a rift in Rift… it could reappear within minutes. It’s really REALLY awesome the first 10-20 times, but it gets really boring after a while. I think, more than anything, Rift didn’t make enough use of it. DEs here at least have different stories in each zone, even if the general content is the same. In Rift, the only difference between the zones is their rift elements.
WvW – Shadowbane
MASSIVE agreement here. Nothing will beat that for WvW, IMO.
sPvP – Thanks WoW for making any non siege PvP into an arena based nightmare.
Also agree.
Dodge System – Done by many other games before GW2, but I will say the GW2 system feels much more fluid than others. (TERA just off the top of my head, but it was so clunky!)
I used to like TERA’s system more than GW2 before they added their version of the endurance bar (back when you could dodge as much as you wanted). Now, I like GW2 more. If they added 1 more bar to your endurance meter, I would LOVE GW2’s version.
As a male human, medium is the only way to go for me. Light looks too frilly / eccentric / downright crazy sometimes, and really goofy others. There are a few exceptions, of course, but IMO not many. Heavy is usually too bulky for my tastes. Medium armor actually looks like something I could see my character wearing.
As someone who was a hardcore raider(tank and heals primarily) in WoW for Vanilla + BC + WotLK and for about a year in Rift, I will say this: I don’t consider raids “hard content” at all. Besides the random games of simon says that get tossed into there, raids are usually 90% of the group just watching tv while spamming their rotation, and 10% doing the same thing they do in 5 man instances. The only “hard” spot is the raid leader, who is basically trying to herd cats.
So the request for hard content and the request for raids are 2 separate things entirely.
That said, I do want more hard content. Hard modes for the dungeons would be fun, as well as instances areas that can be made overly difficult just for the fun of it. No extra rewards for doing it, IMO, besides achievies.. Just for the challenge.
I dont mind our downstate too terribly much. I mean, compared to necromancer or really most other class’ downed states it’s downright horrendous… but that’s true with our entire class :-P. It’s not so bad that I can’t work with it, so that’s fine by me.
Knowing how Anet treats engies, they will probably give us a pistol fire rate increase with a damage decrease so our DPS remains the same :-P
Sometimes I don’t wonder if they determine what our damage output should be based on the best possible scenarios, like "Would they be OP with this if they have their maximum sustainable 16+ stacks of might with quickness added on? Yes? Oh, well then, lets nerf the holy crap out of this! Screw non-elixir users!’
It’s because the “Rifle” isn’t a rifle at all. It’s a shotgun using rifle skin. They really need to just rename it that, give us a couple of shotgun skins in the rifle selection, and then give us a SECOND rifle set that’s actually a rifle. :-P
There is a difference between an actually full world vs a technically full world.
As Anet devs have stated multiple times, the server status is NOT based on how many players are logged in at any given moment, but rather how many accounts call a server their home. So you can have a technically full server that reads as full, is loaded with accounts… and most of those accounts are inactive.
On the other hand, you can have actually full servers. The most well known example of this is Tarnished Coast. Even certain outside zones still hit overflow, not just major cities.
That is part of my answer to your issue of being on a “Full” server and not seeing many people. The second is that right now it is more lucrative to spend your time in instances getting mad loots than it is to do… anything else, really. That sucks, IMO, and I hope it changes. :-\ But, for now, there is a giant funnel kind of pushing everyone into instances, so even if the server is bursting at the seems with active players, I would bet only a fraction will be out and about in the world at any given time.
Now, your question (based on my answer to your issue of being on a full server and seeing no one) is: No, this game is NOT antisocial, ESPECIALLY right now. Why? As I said, everyone is funneled into instances… which require parties. >_> Therefor, you are being funneled into group content. Seems sort of social to me, I guess.
Turrects actually don’t have AI currently—they shoot at the nearest thing within range, no exceptions, even if there is no LoS or if there is a major obstruction (like a wall or building) in the way. They will always shoot targetable environment or WvW gates if they are closer than an actual enemy. (Yes, even net turret shoots gates…heheh).
Hope that info helps somehow. I don’t want to sound too pessimistic—I love playing my engineer and I think engineers are in a pretty good place overall—but unfortunately this is not a matter of fixing turret AI. It’s a matter of introducing it for the first time.
Ouch.
That does actually help, though, yea. Though I do wish Dragons fit into the category of being a “nearest thing”. They just ignore those entirely.
Honestly, just an “attack my target” hotkey would be perfect to fix the issue.
