Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.

Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.

Sorry but I find it incredible that no-one who reviewed the armor prior to release didn’t twig to the fact that it was exactly the same plus with added fire effects. That beggars belief I’m afraid.

This. Which means they did know what they were doing and just didn’t expect the uproar that would ensue.

Most likely they don’t know / care if someone deliberately made the decision or whether it was an error in judgment. Most likely no one knows or cares why. No one’s heads have to roll because of a poor judgment call. And it probably wasn’t done with “evil intentions” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon's_razor

There is something to be said to allowing them to back out gracefully and made the change while maintaining their dignity. Isn’t it enough that you called them on it and they agreed to make a change? It’s enough for me.

Not looking forward of collecting 25000000000 ugly sweaters for one of the maybe new winters day weapon or skins. But at least we have something to do, right?

No no no. You’ll need 1000 ugly sweaters to make a… er…. ugly sweater brick? ugly sweater wardrobe? hmmm… pristine ugly sweater?

Guys, you already accepted the Ascended bait and switch. Why did you think they’d stop there?

While I know you are just trolling to stir up trouble, you do have a point. I feel like ANet has deliberately narrowed their target market to VP grinders. First they disappoint horizontal progression alt-o-holics with ascended gear, now they disappoint the horizontal cosmetic progression group by mucking with some of the most expensive armor skins in the game.

You know what’s sad? People are going to buy the re-skin anyway. Which is just going to encourage whoever it was who came up with this bright idea.

The idea behind Cultural armor—that it’s exclusive to one race—has been done away with today. It’s frankly insulting in a game that values cosmetics and exclusivity as much as this one.

And no one will buy gems → gold to purchase any t3 armor ever again.

“Oh no! Like… a bunch of people aren’t satisfied with X. Better delete all traces of it!”

They want you to move from anger to acceptance faste… er… they want to consolidate feedback in one place to make it easier for the developers to see it.

When does the day come that players understand that game content is virtual and not their property. Any company can change, delete, add or whatever their own Virtual Content at any time of the day. Users agreed to that as they signed up for the game or purchased it…

Saying that a company has the right to change, delete, add, or whatever their own Virtual Content is a far cry from saying it’s smart. Smart businesses don’t irritate their most dedicated customers.

Why does nsp always hit bp? Never seen them hit cd much.

There is a long standing tradition that 3rd place hits second place. If BP gets head in points NSP will start attacking CD. I have no idea why this is, but it seems to happen in every match up, no matter how close.

Actually your way off. I can’t speak for the rest of NSP or my guild but. I for one still remember when bp/ar double teamed us out of t6 and gloated about it like they win t1 gold.

So any chance I can get to put some hurt on bp I will.

So step up your game bp. Or you get 2nd place. Omg the sky is falling if CD wins.

Thinking about it more, if they see logins drop off (and no, you don’t know whether the population is growing or declining, only ANet knows and they aren’t saying) AND they think a level cap increase will attract players the way Ascended Armor will not, THEN we may see a cap increase soon.

However, I seriously doubt that is the case. I wouldn’t expect a level cap until late next year.

There have been so many moves of traits to balance out classes that it would be very very difficult to add 10 more trait points and not have a disaster.

For example, they are moving “Unsuspecting Foe” to a master trait to help balance with Hammer Warrior. If you get 10 more trait points you can take it again, and be more powerful than ever.

Who said there is no difference or that gear doesn’t matter at all?

You can get “good enough” gear for PvE in the game easily enough. WvW is a different beast, but people constantly claim that you don’t need BiS gear there either (zerg). So the ability to buy ascended gear with cash probably wouldn’t affect things too much, outside of the obvious outrage.

However, I would pit any class I have at 80 in white gear against a brand new, never played the game, anyone who bought a level 80 and a legendary. And I am far far far (FAR) from the best player.

So obviously gear does make a difference. Try clearing the same dungeon in all white gear if anyone disagrees.

And of course WvW, especially if you fight 1-v-1 in there.

Conceded. But wasn’t the question how the game would change if you could buy gear for cash?

Dishonorable and Honorable players

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

I’m just curious in all of your opinions based on experience, which server has the most dishonorable players? And which one has the most honorable players? No rating your own server.

Dishonorable players are people who….
-run from a fair fight but turn around when the odds turn in their favor
- will laugh at you after beating you even if you put up a valiant effort in your fight
- will interupt duels
- use and abuse the flavor of the month meta without any kind of custom twist to it
-laugh/mock you after beating you while they outnumbered you but would turn down any 1 on 1 offer

Honorable players are people who…
-fight to the death in a 1 on 1
-don’t interupt 1 on 1’s even if it isn’t a duel as long as the fight is on fair grounds (not against an upleveled)
-never laugh or mock anyone who doesn’t flat out deserve it
-Sometimes fight without running even against the odds
-Uses a build not straight off of google that you came up with on your own or at least has some custom twist to it so it isn’t exactly by the book and has noticeable difference
-may choose not to stomp someone or may choose to /salute or /bow to someone who offered an interesting battle.

Can’t really get behind your definitions at all.

Re: FOTM. So what. People can insist that I where PVT armor, don’t take supply from a keep, etc. But can’t give advice about the best build?

What if Ascended Gears was reversed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

Why are people still crying about this? Only the horrendous players who think that a tiny bit more damage will let them win a fight are the ones who can’t sleep because of ascended gear.

In WvW for instance, if you can’t beat an equally skilled player while you’re wearing all rares or even masterwork, you won’t be able to beat them with ascended gear. It doesn’t make a big difference at all. Builds, foods, and player skill make a much bigger difference.

Here’s an example. If I craft TWO ascended weapons for my warrior. I will gain the following over exotic:

8 power
.3% crit chance
0% crit damage

If you think that’ll make a difference in anything then you’re silly. People are also silly for spending hundreds of gold on making ascended weapons but that’s just my opinion.

And 5% more base damage. You may have a point, but being selective about your statistics undermines it.

Currency exchange spiralling out of control!

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

Yes, at some point if things don’t change the exchange can run out of gems and that last batch will go for astronomical price. Conversely a player selling gems at that point can make beau coup gold.

Don’t forget most players get gems to buy items in the store, not for investment nor speculation purposes. Those gems are gone for good. With ANet regularly releases new items in the store, it’s just a matter of time when things go outta hand.

By the way, the price has risen by 2.1g just for the last 30 days. That’s 36.5% for crying out loud. And an overall +2762% since the game’s release!

I don’t think that’s quite the way it works. From this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Help-I-don-t-understand-gem-supply-concept/page/1

Not the way what works? Cuz all evidence is pointing out the gem supply is dwindling fast.

Yep. Sorry, I misunderstood your post. My bad.

While the gold / gems ratio is out of hand for the people who buy gems with gold, the gems / gold ratio is too low for people who spend cash.

Small amounts of Gold (4-10g range) is easy enough to earn in game. So if you want to convert gems to gold you are after something bigger.

And I’m certainly not spending $176 for a precursor or $500 on Twilight.

What motivates you to continue playing? Recently I’ve started to think about the motives that drive different people to play the same game. I suspect a lot of the hostility I see on the forums could be caused by different people not understanding what makes others tick. Essentially, most of us are unable to see that other people like things differently than we do.

In a recent thread it occurred to me that there may be at least four different types of players. I’m curious to know if there may be more.

A first kind of player enjoy working on enhancing the abilities of their character. They want to continually improve their character is very important to their satisfaction.

A second kind of player enjoys variety. They want to be able to try out lots of different builds and classes.

A third kind may be a social gamer. What motivates them is meeting people and/or playing with friends.

A fourth kind may be the competitive gamer. They want to show their skills and use them to defeat other players. This can be in PvP or the BLTP.

Different classes/builds vs Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TooBz.3065

The sad thing is that this could be almost entirely solved by making ascended gear account bound. Seems like such a good compromise between different play styles.

Forgive me since I don’t have any but as far as i know it is account bound?

Only until you equip it, then it’s soul bound. So let’s say I have many alts, and among them I have a condition engineer with ascended rabid and a warrior with ascended PVT. And I want to try out conditions on my warrior. If I want ascended I need to get a whole new set for the warrior.

This is discouraging. If instead I could get different ascended gear and move it freely between characters, I’d still be grinding my kitten off, it just wouldn’t feel so pointless. Personally, I’d want a Zerker Set, a Rabid Set, a Celestial Set, and a PVT Set that I would share among my 6 level 80 characters.

will ascended gear be alt-friendly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

Hahaha, all of them? you know the rules…. “#32 – Pics or it didn’t happen”
I have rare materials like cotton etc. And money for everything else. It is stupid to store 16k mithril ores while i can buy it anytime.

I just wanted to say – MMO is not SIMS or other barby like game. Even when they make ascended gear more obtainable, someone will make 1000 alts and start to cry “omg i can’t gear all of them, give all items for free QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ”.

Apparently, people who make 8 and more characters, don’t play all of them, they just want to dress and undress them… don’t tell them (it is a top secret), but they don’t need all of them be full dressed. Or they will lose all motivation to play GW2 as a barby like game. When this happens, they just go to characters screen and make new characters. So it does not matter how many alts they have, they will do it all time. For “normal” people (who actually play their characters) ascended items are accessible. Just not in the moment new patch hits servers.

Are you suggesting people want to get BiS gear for their alts because of how it looks?

Like, how those leaked images of Ascended armour look? Seriously?

On topic:
No, it won’t be alt-friendly. That would detract from the game’s new direction which is up, up, up and away!

No. I think they don’t really need it, because they don’t play these characters. They need goals (achievements or something else) to motivate themselves. And ascended gear is one of those things. When all alts will get all items, they start to collect money for full sets of legendaries or something else. Does not matter what they say, because they don’t know what they want actutally, they want endless process but with visible end (or steps towards end goal).

if you have 8 characters at level 80 you play them sometimes. After all you did get them to 80. I have 6 at level 80 (I use to have 7 but I deleted one). I know that while I always have a “main” who my “main” is changes fairly frequently. It’s a cycle that keeps me from getting bored with the game.

If the ANet team makes it so that I don’t feel like I can’t play those characters and need to settle on one, I will get bored and frustrated. And before anyone says “you don’t need ascended gear”, this isn’t about the reality of what you need to play the game, it’s about perception and satisfaction you get from playing the game.

Look at it this way, you get satisfaction from having a goal, grinding out another piece of equipment or whatnot, I get satisfaction from playing different fully equipped characters and trying out different builds.

You may not understand why I enjoy this, but frankly, I don’t understand why you enjoy the grind.

Edit: reading your post again, in struck me that we really do have two entirely different ways of looking at things. In your view, I will complain because I always want more for free. But in reality, I don’t want there to be more, I want to be able to explore what’s there. For example, I don’t have a legendary and I don’t want one, except as a means to avoid any future grind on that weapon.

I think the only real problem is transfers to t1 servers. It happens non stop because people want to stay on winning side, and if you are on winning server you make tons of money. So basically those people don’t care for exchange rate, just pay wathever it costs, and drive up the gems price. Peope interested in cash shop items are a minotiry in my opinion. It was by far not this bad when the 1 year sale was, and then the shop had way more interesting items.

The only high gem cost, high demand service that keeps upping the rate has to be transfers.

In my experience, the amound of gold generated from WvW is a fraction of the Gold generated from… anywhere else (except sPvP).

But, yes, people using gold to buy gems to transfer certainly would drive up the exchange rate.

As a quick aside. Gems in the currency exchange are finite. You may buy gems with real money to your hearts content, but if you don’t put any of them gems into the currency exchange the currency exchange’s stock of gems never changes.

Think of it this way. The government can print as much money as they want, that doesn’t mean your bank account has access to that money. The currency exchange does not have access to gem creation. It has a limited stock that players add and subtract from.

I take this to mean that when Gems are purchased with $$ they are created out of thin air. If you buy gold with gems, the gems are added to the exchanges.

When you buy gems with gold, the gems are removed from the exchange. When you spend those gems in the store, the gems are destroyed.

Edit: The gold / gems exchange rate is probably a function of the number of gems in the exchange.

It’s a great sigil. It was a holiday drop last year, so they may drop again this year, which would cause a price decrease. But maybe not.

New warrior needs advice on builds.

First thing is that builds that are good for PvE are not so good for WvW. They are different animals.

Despite what some people will say, in PvE you can do almost anything and be successful; however, there are definitely better choices than others.

Looking at weapons, in general, the longbow is better than the rifle in almost all circumstances. The Sword is cool for mobility, but it’s really more of a condition (damage over time) weapon, power / prec / and crit are power based, so you’ll do better with an Axe.

regarding signets, 5 signet warriors are fine for a leveling build, but they aren’t the best at 80. Also, signets tend to be used for passively which can be boring.

My advice at this stage is to play around with lots of different things, see what you like. Respecing is very inexpensive.

Edit: just to explain PvE vs. WvW, in PvE you can be geared 100% offensively, in WvW you need a more defensive set up. WvW can be further divided into roaming builds (small groups) and zerg builds (large groups). Roaming builds are more focused on playstyle and synergy with your group. Zerg builds focus on not dying.

As long as skills have to work well in both pvp and pve, gw2 will be lackluster in esports.

interesting, I was thinking that as long as skills have to work will in pvp and pv2, gw2 will be lackluster in pve. So it may be that you can’t serve two masters.

Yeah, there’s enough toxicity in WvW without the flowers.

In general, I think ANet wants the community development discussions to be positive. So if you were frustrated during the last session, see if you can come up with something that would make you less frustrated (preferably not, “have that kitten kitten kitten answer each and everyone of my posts”).

For example, for me, my biggest frustration was the feeling of being ignored / not heard. Therefore, I especially like the summaries, because if something I am interested in shows up there, I’ll know they heard me, even if they did not respond.

I think the hard part is that we collectively have a lot more time to post than you individually. Which is understandable, you are making a game and we are ravenously consuming it.

I think the summaries would be very helpful. It lets us know that our point was heard, even if it’s not adopted. The main struggle I had was with the apparent silence on your end.

Mechanics induce rage or accusations of hacks

Yeah, I’ve seen it too. But I’ve also seem some of them scramble like kitten to get out of the keep without dropping a portal. Bugs happen, it depends how people react when it does.

if they drop a portal or take the keep, report them for hacking and move on.

Eh, I think the complaints about hacks are to a fair degree caused because there are a lot of hackers lately.

I’ve seen speed hackers at least three or four times since the season started, and not at all for months before that. They’re really obvious too, engineers that teleport every 1/4 second and such.

But then you report them. You don’t remove “blink”
