Mechanics induce rage or accusations of hacks

Thieves and mesmers are annoying. Thieves kill you out of nowhere, Mesmers can hide in a keep and port in an army one you leave. However, these aspects make the game interesting. I have trouble with the idea that the game should be dumbed down even further because people can’t be bothered to sweep properly or get some toughness, travel in a group, etc..

When people get outplayed they always scream hack. That doesn’t mean we should eliminate the possibility that they be outplayed.

The problem occurs when you take a fundamentally unfair system and then combine the unfair system with things we associate as fair.

A “season” of a “sport” is generally fair. Yes, some teams are better than others, but it’s almost always based on player skill (viewed as a “fair” difference), not the size of the team (viewed as an “unfair” difference).

If WvW is not suppose to be fair, then you shouldn’t pretend it is.

If you like the elementalist, you should look into rotations (standard attack patterns)

For example, stacking might with (for scepter / dagger) For example Fire 4 → Fire 3 → Earth 4 → Earth 5

But, IMO, the elementalist and the engineer are the toughest classes to play.

Developer Feedback: Season Achievements

Idea for second season: no second season achievements, only the rewards for getting first, second or third place.

I don’t like this idea because you individual contribution is essentially meaningless in terms of the success of your server.

As everyone keeps saying whenever I whine about ascended gear. WvW is all about numbers.

To me, the sweetest reward for winning isn’t some title, finisher, or piece of gear. It’s not even the win itself. It’s the road your server traveled to get there.

So, how many times during the season has blackgate been stomped in a completely unbalanced matchup?

The meta achievements are based around normal WvW play. You can’t compare them to the living story achievements because those funnel you into one area and are only available for 2-4 weeks. Whereas these achievements exist in the entire game mode and are active for 7 weeks.

The season rewards are fine. They provide a nice flashy reward that doesn’t make much of a difference for those who joined high-pop realms before the transfer cutoff and they’re only around for the following season. If they had much bigger and better rewards for the top-placing realms then there would be some face-slapping going on.

We haven’t seen what the actual season-end reward chests will be so we can’t complain about those yet.

Due to season 1, my server has faced absolutely terrible match ups. Fights that are so lopsided that they aren’t remotely even fun. Consequently, I’d like to see a reward chest that almost make it worthwhile (frankly I’d rather have fun, but since I cant…)

And if a zerg comes across a roaming group of course we kill them. We don’t stop to have a philosophical debate about it first. This is WvW for kitten’s sake.

No dude they’d rather complain about it.

Its like this is their first pvp game…

Haha, listen it isnt that you guys have numbers, its that if we actually to catch you guys (in my experience) with equals or 1v1, even 2v3 or w/e they just run. They dont even TRY to fight just beeline to the nearest tower, zerg, etc. To make it worse the inevitable zerg will roll through and then #emotespam if they happen to catch you. You like to spam 111111 in a zerg? Ok play as you want but dont be a kitten about it if you happen to blob over 3 guys. Its bad sportsmanship, its cowardice, and its rude. So yea, im going to say something about it.

TBH, if I’m out roaming and I engage another solo person, I frequently end up getting ganked by his 4 friends hiding around the corner. Sometimes there’s no upside to engaging, especially if you want to be doing something else.

Can’t really go wrong with either Focus, Sword, or Pistol.

Most people like Focus for the access to swiftness + it’s general utility in dungeons.
But I prefer sword.

Focus has a stationary phantasm which is sometimes a bother (you aren’t traiting it so reflections don’t matter)
Pistol #5 hits three (or four) targets, which can sometimes aggro something you don’t want aggroed.

Ascended gear is a 5% stat increase not a 10% stat increase btw. Not sure why people are saying it is a 10% increase.

base weapon damage on ascended weapons is higher than exo

ascended weapons have a higher base damage AND 5% extra stats

Also, if you use some combination of power, precision, and/or crit damage the effects compound.

Edit: Also, people say it’s not suppose to be fair in order to justify some degree of neglect. It allows balance issues, gear issues, and server population issues to be ignored.

Ok, true, to an extent, the game is won on a macro-scale. However, I enjoy and play the game on a micro-scale. I get much more pleasure out of my performance than I do out of my server’s performance. And more pleasure out of my server’s performance than I do out of how our ranking changes.

No one will ever convince me that 5-12% damage increase doesn’t matter at the micro-scale.

Edit: I originally included this but deleted it, but I think it helps make my point. The argument people make in support of Ascended gear can also be made about class balance. Based on the macro argument it shouldn’t matter if warriors are OP, because both sides have them. But people QQ all the time (and in the WvW forum) and nobody ever tries to make that argument. Why?

I think skill will always win out over stats. Whenever i lose a 1v1 in WvW (which is almost NEVER because someone usually joins the fight from my side or the enemies) i can attribute it to something i did wrong, or something they did right, but not “they only won because they put out 10% more dmg.”

But again, this is meaningless in the overall scope of WvW. My 1v1 loss is a droplet of water in the 10 gallon bucket of WvW, but i think you understand this.

I’m not sure about your warrior comment, tbh. Everybody has access to ascended, but only warriors have access to warriors?

But if individuals don’t matter, it only matter’s that each server has access to the same number of warrior. Anyway, sorry I engaged. I honestly am sick of this conversation. You win anyway.

haha i wasn’t trying to “win” but ok. I must be wearing ascended and not know it!

I still find it ironic that people use WvW as an excuse against Ascended equipment. They cite statistics, percentages, and such, but fail to remember one important thing… and that is that the one on one encounters do not matter in a mode of play that’s designed around group siege warfare. In the end, in WvW, the server with the biggest zerg wins.

False. Havoc squads can impact the capabilities of a team severely. If your massive Zerg is in EBG then you can have enemies slipping in to take down your keeps very quickly in the borderlands. Taking supplies is always devastating towards holding fortifications, and a small group nabbing frogs or dredge can create a nuisance.

And even then. Why do you think commanders ask for might and boons before a big engagement? Because that extra DPS can devastate a Zerg. Knockback, zone control, and all these things can break up ranks and make a Zerg much less ineffective when you’re blasting your enemy targets allover the place preventing them from stacking in place.

Zerg play is very key, but do not underestimate the small things. Don’t underestimate damage percentages, don’t underestimate extra might, don’t underestimate the power of casting stealth, invisibility, portals, blinds, aegis, and all these things. They can change a battle completely. I for example tend to carry ballista prints so that when my server is capping SMC and the enemy is holding up, we can throw down ballistas at the entrances and use a guardian to keep them trapped inside while we block out their push from the outside and prevent any dead from coming inside. What about tapping keeps to prevent enemy reinforcements from returning as quickly? That’s highly key too.

Seconding this. I’m part of a havoc squad, rebel guild, ‘troll society’ and it’s extremely important to have the best gear available there. We often fight up to 3 times as many enemies (3v9 yesterday, finished them all).

What I think WvW needs:

  • Option 1: Downscale ascended to exotic stats.
  • Option 2: Let us play WvW-Only characters, that can have BiS gear and level 80 without cost.
  • Option 3: Upscale exotic armour in WvW to ascended.
  • Option 4: Delete PvE gear from WvW, allow players to get their PvE skins for free and unlimited from a database.

I feel like your organized havoc squad would still have the same effect on overall PPT if you were running around in all exotics. Organization, teamwork, and experience play a much more significant role than stats.

Against ignorant zerglings we would most probably… against other organised havoc squads that did have exotics… don’t think so.

no offense, but that sounds like a cop-out.

“dang! that other havoc group only beat us because they have ascended!!”

I’m sure if that situation actually happened, there would be a lot more significant things that determined the outcome of that fight. And more importantly, regardless who won the groupvgroup fight, the effect on PPT would still be non-existent or insignificant.

I disagree. It only sounds like a cop out because you think ascended gear doesn’t matter.

in the big picture of WvW, losing a group v group fight because a group had ascended gear isn’t going to matter when your server’s primetime zerg rolls through the borderland that evening.

So everyone keeps telling me. You will never convince me, I will never convince you. One of us in wrong. Meh.

Ascended gear is a pretty significant and desirable upgrade for an individual. But in WvW, an individual is insignificant and undesirable.

Ascended gear is significant on a micro scale but WvW functions on a macro scale, so the overall effects of people having ascended gear, when roughly the same % of the enemy server population has ascended gear, is insignificant.

Ok, true, to an extent, the game is won on a macro-scale. However, I enjoy and play the game on a micro-scale. I get much more pleasure out of my performance than I do out of my server’s performance. And more pleasure out of my server’s performance than I do out of how our ranking changes.

Ascended is a done deal. However, complaining about it might make them think twice about implementing Trasncendant or w/e if their horizontal progression skill initiative fails to entice players who want progression goals.

Absolutely the best reason for complaining. It’s not going to stop ascended gear from getting into the game, but it might make Anet think twice about going one further.

The weapon grind was overkill….not so much the ascended part but leveling your crafting professions to 500 was unnecessarily punishing.

I agree with most of this, although I think ascended weapons require too much material. (Not to mention messing up new comers by inflating the cost of those materials, but whatever)

Remember how easy it was to get Jewel crafting from 375 to 400? I’m pretty sure I made one earring maybe two. Crafting to 500 was brutal.

The game is so very different from what I thought it would be. So much more grindy. So much more tedious. Each update is just more of the same zergy combat. Who cares what we are fighting if it kills us before we can do anything if not in a zerg and we kill it before it can do anything if we are in a zerg?

No one wants ascended armor.

Hello, my name is No one.

Why do you want this?

Again… Ascended equipment in general is used for infusion slots. Infusion slots allow us (fractal players) to put in agony resistance in our stats.
More info on Agony in general.

Now Agony Resistance is needed for progression in fractals. The maximum cap at the moment is 55 Agony Resistance. This allows us to get to level 50. At level 50 at the moment there’s a cap in place where Agony Resistance doesn’t matter because you will die regardless. That cap was put in place for some unknown reason to us all. With additional 6 infusion slots Agony Resistance will be increased to 85 total. With that in mind, the cap on fractals should be removed and progression will be possible (without doing odd level fractals).

The only problem with Ascended Weapons / Armors is that the stats are slightly higher than those of Exotic status. That being said, makes thus equipment more desirable for everyone that wants to increase their stats, rather than just those that do fractals.

Aside from regular Agony Resistance infusion, the slots can be used for other infusions such as +5 power, +5 vitality, etc. That slight rise in stats along with another slight rise from ascended equipment make it desirable for many elite players basically trying to max out their class output. Aside from that infusion slots can be used for non-combat stats boost infusions such as +20% Magic Find or +20% Gold from monsters. Those infusions make it quite desirable for farmers.

Any way you looking at it, make the ascended armor desirable for anyone looking forward personal increase of stats or gold. But more than anyone, fractal players.

Every single party in the game been getting content for their way of playing. PvP with new maps and matching systems, WvW with new map coming out and constant additions such as map rewamping, wvw seasons, rewards, uprgading, leveling system. And most of all PvE players with new content coming out with every 2 weeks, along with dungeon rewarding, champion farming etc. Us, the fractals players been practically playing fractals since it came out a year ago, and since then it was practically untouhced. Reward system is purely based on RNG as it was since day one. The profitability from fractals is close to none compared to all other ways of making gold. And we had the same exact 9 maps since the fractals first came out.

It is our turn to have some fun.

How does ascended armor provide “fun” in a way that rings, amulets, trinkets, and weapons do not?

If getting additional agony resistance counts as fun, then fractal players have been getting constant updates all years. If it doesn’t, then ascended armor won’t make a difference.

I hope the TA revamp, the karka queen, and Teq revamp serve as a wake up call for ANet. Yes some people like hard content, but after a while, no one does it. The rewards just aren’t worth it.

There just isn’t the critical mass necessary to make these things a success. Also, before people qq about playing for fun, IMO neither the new TA, Teq, nor the Karka Queen are “fun”.

I think this kind of hard content is perfect for the short term (1 month change) and then back to farm status.

I have no idea why people are still qq’ing about this. Nerf is incoming.

You should understand is that most of balancing is geared toward the PvP environment. So if a class isn’t overpowered in PvP it’s probably not on the chopping block. For a long time, Warrior’s we not considered viable in PvP, therefore, no nerfs.

Now warriors are viable / OP in PvP, ergo, nerfs incomming.

There is no logic.

A 10% increase in power from might stacks is really significant but a 10% increase from gear is not, because might stacks.

In PVE, a 1% increase in DPS from picking the right gear (say having a beserkers ring vs. a knight one) is much more imporant than the optional 10% DPS from getting ascended gear, because zerkers.

Sigh. Everything ascended is terrible for people like me. It makes me resent the game and ANet. I know it’s coming, I’m not arguing against it anymore since my arguments are never acknowledged or in any way addressed. I and people like me are simply not important.

I am glad that some people like it.

Have gem-prices increased artificially?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TooBz.3065

Yes and No. ANet changed the tools to account bound, which made a lot of people decide to buy them. (The reason I said yes, is that, of course, ANet knew this was going to happen that’s why they did it)

People used in game gold to buy gems, thereby affecting the gem market.

Also there are new skins that are rather nice in the gem store. Which means more gold to gems.

I don’t generally do much PVE content. Out of curiosity, do you use the same build for the zergy stuff like the Nightmare Within? It seems like so much random stuff is going on in there that it would be difficult to be glass. (As opposed to the predictability organized group of dungeon runs.)

one thought that I wanted to throw out here. No one likes to be an invader everyone likes to be a legend.

Why make the ranks go Invader→Legend, Bronze Invader→Bronze Legend, etc.. Why didn’t you make it go

Invader, Bronze Invader → Diamond Invader, Assaulter → Diamond Assaulter, etc…

You can’t really get away with using the same gear for dungeons and WvW.

Can you post your current build, perhaps we can make recommendations to get a functional WvW build with a minimum of adjustment.

I’m seeing a lot of complaints that they increased the price to $1000 – I don’t understand these people, as if they deserve everything free and/or cheap (but mainly free)

It’s obviously the trade-off from switching from soulbound to accountbound. Of course you’re going to have to be paying more. Anet would be losing a lot more money if they didn’t do that. And the fact that they priced it at 1000g, which at this quantity can’t be bought directly from the store smacks genius.

It’s a little bit of classic market segmentation, all businesses do this as much as they possibly can.

First you get everyone who is willing to buy unlimited tools per character at $10 a pop, apply a little pressure with the limited time offer to push people on the fence.

Next you switch to get the people who are willing to spend $12.50 for one that they can pass around to different toons.

They probably also figure that for some people, this will result in people buying 2-3 because moving it from toon to toon is a pain in the kitten.

Edit; This is not a complaint. Merely an explanation of what they are doing. It’s all about the amount of value you derive from the good and maximizing revenue while satisfying as many people as possible.

Importance of End Game (scale 1-10)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TooBz.3065

It is important to keep in mind that GW1 had almost no end game. Sure there were random arena, underworld and FoW. But those are not great end game by any measure.

In GW1 the end game was starting an alt character. It was so alt friendly that I had 9 characters. Many other players I know had more. It took players hours to plan out their character. They have to pick the skills. They have to set the traits. They had to equip the character and get skins for them. But at the same time, those tasks are fairly easy so no one feels it is a grind at all.

GW2 is not alt friendly at all. That’s the core of the problem. I explained this in great details in this thread here.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/1-Alt-Chars-2-Side-Kick-System

GW2 is the most alt-friendly MMO to ever exist. Seriously. Stop saying it’s not. There are only two things in the entire game that off the top of my head aren’t alt friendly, and that’s fractals and WvW exp.

GW2, today is not alt-friendly. It is not the most alt friendly MMO that every existed because
a) GW1, and
b) GW2 pre-January 2013.

They have repeatedly and regularly made changes that made the game less alt-friendly. Each new set of gear, each change to the reward structure, each new mechanic have progressively been less and less alt-friendly.

Have they mentioned any kind of perks or reimbursement for those of us that bought a set of tools for each character BECAUSE they were soulbound?

I wouldn’t expect much. after all you said (by purchasing) that you were willing to pay 800 gems for a tool usable on one character and that’s what you have.

No. and Yes.

It’s soul bound but you can get around it like this:

You can start a new character, necro, pick the skull mask.
Once you get through the opening buy a blue or white headpiece from the tp. Use a transmutation stone on it. Picking the mask face and the blue/white stats. It should now be account bound. put it in your bank. Pick it up with your other necro. Use a transmutation stone / crystal to put it on your necro.

Anet made a decision to make crafting more expensive across the board. They have also made a general decision to inflate the economy by adding a whole bunch of new sources of gold. (Mostly champ bags)

All we can do is deal with it.

I don’t believe the mystic forge has much to do with it. Look at the history:

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/15314

We see a precipitous drop on September 13th. At the same time we say a rise in the materials used to craft them.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19701
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19725

What could have happened around September 13th to make people create a bunch of exotics they didn’t want…. hmm… I’m at a loss.

The mystic forge may help keep prices down, but really the culprit is the need to forge a bunch of items you don’t want to get crafting to 500.

I was just thinking about the season 1 rewards. If the difference in rewards is too great then everyone will just stack the servers they think are going to win season 2. Something to keep in mind.

Also, you are asking people to leave a winning team to move to a losing team. Why would anyone do that? Especially since Anet has made winning more important with the seasons.
