What I really wish is for people to flood pvp so it secures a healthy population. Hopefully by then, the numbers are big enough to where solo and team queues can be separate again. My win rate in old solo queue were much higher than it is now.

According to Colin the pvp numbers have never been better and are growing rapidly. My interpretation of this is that they don’t do solo queue because they hate us.

well if they wanted a 50% winrate then they are spot on for all my characters. But its the way it happens which is a bit strange. Lots of streaks – win streaks followed by losing streaks.

Sometimes I think their matchmaking algo makes 2 completely unbalanced teams on purpose and you have a 50/50 chance of what team you end up on. This would, in the long run, produce a 50/50 win rate with lots of blowouts which seems to at least be what I see happening.

I think it’s more probable that if you play at the wrong times you’re just fodder for premades. When I come into a match and everyone has the same guild tag or you see the entire team with a good composition and roaming the map in a very coordinated fashion, you know you’re against a premade and you’re almost for sure going to lose.

@OP:

Yes, matchmaking is horrendous. I was still hoping that ANET would announce a new system as part of HoT. The current implementation is really bad.

They did, its called Leagues.

lol. That won’t fix anything. How is that going to prevent premades vs PUGS? They need new matchmaking logic.

It doesn’t focus on matchmaking, but Leagues do fix bad matchmaking outcomes. They even made the point system that way, with help from the “% Odds of Victory”. If, for whatever reason, you get an uneven match you won’t get as punished as you would if you had higher chances of beating the enemy team.

You’re going to lose a pip or go down a league if you lose games. Flat out that is what they said. So if they don’t fix the matchmaking system, there’s gonna be a huge issue where the only people who will be able to move up and stay in higher leagues are people who are in organized pvp guilds or have a structured pvp team to play with. Unless you have phenomenal luck in pugs… which i suppose is possible, it’s just not probable.

Was in a match where i got destroyed by a guy with the title “champion magus” and our team overall lost like 500 to 50 i think. I go to the wiki to look it up. “champion magus, awarded for winning 150 tournaments”. Oh ok, that sounds like a fair match up.

According to Anet, pvp pop is growing really well. No explanation on why we can’t have a solo queue though.

I guess if you had looked beyond a glance, you would known that in game, and on the wiki itself under http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Conqueror it doesn’t say “tournaments”. It actually says “Win 150 rated arena games as an elementalist.”, whereby both ranked and unranked count as a rated arena game. It’s a title more indicative of time played then of skill to be honest, since even the worst player will eventually get enough wins to get the title even if he is carried by rest of the team every time he gets a win. In fact, him being matched up against you who clearly is new to sPvP, is a pretty strong indicator that this ele is in fact not very good at all.

I stand corrected. The part in the wiki to the right in the table that says: “150 tournament matches won as an elementalist” threw me off.

Either way, I do stand by the fact that the guy and his team absolutely obliterated my team. It’s something that seems to happen pretty regularly in solo q, especially on Friday or Saturday nights which must be when more people get together to play with friends. I guess one thing that would make things slightly more balanced, though anet has said they never would do it, is to add VOIP to pvp. If people in PUGS had the ability to communicate better it MIGHT make things slightly closer… though i’m a little doubtful about the overall amount.

So, I just got queued in ranked 4 times in a row against full pre – made teams as full solo team, with few occasional 2 man parties. Twice in which these teams are actually top tier players that play ESL on a weekly basis (on TS queuing as a team). My MMR is somewhat high, but I doubt it is that much since I am still an average player, giving the fact I don’t play as much as these dudes do.
My question is, are the developers actually aware of the dis balance they have created when merging Solo queue and Team queue? I mean, obviously, your faulty matchmaking is not doing a proper job of queuing players fairly against one another, so there has to be something done about it, right? Or have you shrunk the PvP player base so much with bad in game implementations, that the matchmaking itself just says: "Screw it, just put the level 20 player against a ESL champ so we can say that our queue times are relatively short (5 minutes)?
I am actually baffled that this is going on for so long.

Venting aside, I am legitimately wondering if there are any plans to, at least, somewhat address this. Separating Solo / Team Q? Improving matchmaking? Anything?
Because, this is driving, at least, me, from PvP, and I am fairly sure I am not alone in this boat.

The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute.

While I’ll let the PvP team respond to the other points here, I do want to take a moment and address this:

PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched. We anticipate this week will be the best week login/play wise PvP has ever had in the history of Gw2.

I don’t want to trivialize your points – and our competitive team has some great reasons why things operate the way they do they’ll lay out and explain in relation to leagues soon: I do want to call out you’re using false population data to support your point.

From an ArenaNet perspective, PvP is the fastest growing part of Gw2 and had more success for us as a business in the last year than it’s had by far in the history of the Guild Wars franchise. Next year is going to be even bigger because of that success.

I’m really proud of the work the team has done and the work our amazing player community who has helped grow competitive PvP just as much as our dev team has and would hate to see that lost in this discussion.
-CJ

I have read (in multiple places on the forum) the reason solo queue was removed is because the pvp population dwindled to the point queue times were unbearable.

If what you’re saying is true, that means there should be MORE reason to implement solo q because there would be theoretically lower queue times than when it was removed.

Also, I am not trying to use false data, the falling population argument is the only logical explanation I have heard as to why solo queue was removed. I cannot think of any other conceivable, logical, reason a pvp game would not offer a solo queue option. League of Legends is right now the most successful pvp game I can think of. I believe it would be logical to emulate their matchmaking structure to the best of your abilities assuming it does not create a burdensome amount of costs to implement.

There are many discussions here about matchmaking not doing a good job. It “seems” that matchmaking is at its worst when it tries to put a pug group against a premade group. I do not have “proof” or “data” that it is worse but from my personal experience and from what I read in the forums, it appears to be worse for 5 random people to play against 5 people who are organized and most likely communicating via 3rd party voip. Assuming what I am saying is true, why wouldn’t anet want to minimize these mismatches by offering the options of “solo queue”, “premade queue”, and “fastest match” in which case the fastest match may put a PUG against a premade team?

I do not want SoloQ. Interesting subject, but this game needs more people combined in teams, communicating, building tactics, improving combos, and exchanging ideas in real time, not just going in PvP solo while listening to music acting all alone thinking you are the best.

That’s a great fantasy you have there. In reality if it’s “Daily engineer or mesmer winner” you’re gonna end up on a premade of 4 mesmers or 4 engineers while a premade of 1 thief, 2 eles, 1 necros, 1 warrior comes in and eats your lunch.

Of course anet can always add a solo que if the PvP scene gets huge but it isnt. I can post for you just on me 7 min+ que times when i solo que and sometimes when im partied up. Ave que will say 3. Noscoc posted on this very forum him solo queing and he got to 20 min que and ave que was 2.30.

Solution is let people queue while they play pve.

Nooooooo, don’t go “all in for soloq or teamq”. Unacceptable. We had soloq in the past. It worked. Give it back.

yeah it worked so well we had 20 min que times and no one ever used it at the end. I dont know if the “all in” thing is the right way to go but currently the player base is still to small and we wont know what we have until the exp comes out.

The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute. Nobody wants to get blown out 50 to 500 because all the matches are pugs vs premades. I used to love pvp now I just sign on to get my daily and leave. Matchmaking is a joke and it’s because there’s no solo q.

seeing as how u say u suck at thief and u can 1 shot everything i guess ur playing agaisnt bad players or the last time u played thief was a while ago when we actually were the best burst. sounds like ur bursting ppl who are standing still with no boons or armor or health sure maybe u can burst those classes taht no one really plays seriously but your going to get bursted even faster vs others who are 3 times the survival of u with twice the teamsupport and sustsain. Im not saying we dont have great burst im saying other classes burst compared to ours can do the same dmg if not more than us in a 2-4 sec time frame which is what i think of when saying burst. Not 1 hit but a 2-4 sec dmg combo

The idea of damage in this game should be risk vs reward higher dmg higher chance of dying. lets just say this is out of wack when it comes to thief and the other classes

If we are talking DPS over time, other than mesmer I don’t know who really has the same 0 to 3 second damage output. 3 second to 6 second thief is reliably going to get smoked. Maybe we are saying the same thing.

“stealth on steal”
Are you still talking about full DPS-builds? That trait is in SA…
And I don´t think relying on Hide in Shadows as a condi-remove is that great with that much condis flying around. (Shadow-step is to important as a stun breaker to use it every time for conditions).

Not talking about full dps, mostly talking about being alive more than dead. It’s more important to be alive and capping points than it is to stay in a pointless teamfight at mid accomplishing nothing or spending more time dead and respawning. My point on stealth, which I know isn’t “real” sustain is that thieves have the highest ability to get ooc.

Hide in shadows is in heal, Shadow Step is in utility so not mutually exclusive. Also HIS cures burning which is everywhere.

its funny to me playing a thief that i have less burst than nearly all of the classes in the game and i have to not only setup my burst but i have to do so from up close and personal with the constant stream of aoe dps/cc that is this game with the majority of classes playing asuras (nearly impossible to see back from front) to only get an efforted backstab for 3k after immunity/block/armor/protection/retaliation just to waste half my cooldowns and half my initiative on a targets thats just going to turn keyboard turn around /laugh then 2 shot me if im not quick enough on reactions to avoid thier dmg

does anyone else see something wrong with this picture

By all means plz trash talk me and say its a learn to play issue because i havnt been playing for 3 years straight on thief alone with over 10k tournaments with r1 solo and team along with soldier of the arena and competing in the mlg tournament which was hand picked players

but on the bright side we can rotate a second or 2 faster than most thats worht it right?

Not sure how you can say you have less burst unless you’re running cleric’s amulet or something. It sounds like you are really really experienced so not trying to tell you how to play but when I play thief (and I suck as thief), I can basically one shot all mesmers, all ele’s, most rangers and warriors down to like 1/3 health in which case I stealth, re position, back stab, heartseeker, and they’re dead. In a 2v1 I’m dead, in a teamfight I can either be ranged or get slaughtered the moment I jump in so from that stand point, yea thief has some issues, but to say it doesn’t have burst… i just don’t understand.

Alright. I’ve been seeing several “How Do I Kill An Ele?” threads going around. So, I thought I’d drop in my two cents.

All that follows is in reference to the current D/D Cele Ele meta build for PvP.

First, I want to say that I play an Ele as my main. I’ve earned the “Champion Magus” title. My PvP level is in the 50’s. 75% of my matches are played with a D/D ele. I primarily play Ranked matches. So, I’d venture to say that I’m decent and understand how they work.

The key to beating an Ele (or any class for that matter) is understanding their skills/traits/and how they work. Yes, players might not want to put the time and effort into this, but, if you’re looking to play in Ranked or higher level play, that’s simply what you have to do.

Now, everyone can look at the current Ele meta build at Metabattle.com. So, I’m going to proceed with breaking down a standard Ele rotation.

Rotation:
Eles generally start out in Air attunement. It has a solid gap closer coupled with a stun/interrupt. So, when an Ele looks like they’re about to engage and are in Air, have a stun break ready. Generally, an Ele will trigger Shocking Aura (for stun) followed by Ride the Lightning (gap closer). They can then follow with Updraft (knockback) to down an enemy if they are still up. An Ele can also throw in Lightning Touch (weakness), but it isn’t really imperative. Next up is generally Fire attunement. Don’t be afraid to lay on damage during the Air phase.

Air is a decent damage attunement. So, it’s generally followed up by the major damage attunement: Fire. Especially if an enemy is still stunned/knocked down from air, Fire is a great choice to lay on some damage to get ahead of the game. Burning Speed (gap closer/Blast) is a good opener. It applies burning and leaves a fire wall for 4 seconds. It usually gets the Ele right on top of the enemy after using Updraft from air attunement. This gives great positioning to trigger Ring of Fire(Fire Field) smack on top of the target. With all the burning generated during this phase, a good next move is Fire Grab so that it does extra damage. If the target has moved out of range though, an Ele might use Drake’s Breath to try and do a bit more damage while getting into good positioning. While the Ele is dishing out damage in fire attunement, Condi clear, defend, run, whatever. Just minimize damage. After this, the Ele has to wait before it can trigger another “real” DPS phase.

Depending on how the fight is going, an Ele will switch between Water and Earth.

If an Ele’s health is still relatively high, they will switch to Earth. The protection is great, but this attunement lacks DPS. Feel free to hit hard in this phase, especially if you can nullify the protection. Generally, an Ele will open this attunement with Magnetic Grasp(immobilize) to trap a target. They can then use Magnetic Leap(chain skill) as a gap closer, but I rarely do. Earthquake(knockdown) is a good follow up. An Ele can use this to try and gain either a little uninterrupted time to heal(more likely, I think) or to begin a new DPS phase. It’s also a common attack for an Ele to use to try and rez a downed teammate. Ring of Earth(cripple/bleed) is an optional earth attack. The bleed isn’t great, but the cripple can help keep an enemy in range for bigger attacks. Churning Earth(better cripple/bleed/blast) is rarely used in a PvP match. The cast time is just too long and leaves the Ele vulnerable. If you see one using this, capitalize on the opportunity with some serious DPS. Basically, Earth attunement is used to control movement. Have stability and other immobilize breaks handy.

Finally, there’s Water attunement. After an Ele goes through their water rotation they CAN’T REALLY HEAL FOR A LONG TIME (In PvP time. You know what I’m talking about. Eight seconds is an eternity in PvP). Be sure to lay on the DPS once they exit. Likely, they’ll open with Frost Aura(damage decrease/chill) or Frozen Burst(chill) to reduce incoming DPS. If they’re in real trouble, they might open with Cleansing Wave(big heal/condi clear). Cone of Cold(heal) can then be used to grant a little more healing. This attunement has very little damage compared to Fire or Air. So, it’s a good idea to heal yourself as well when you see an Ele swap to Water.

For the most part, that’s the general rotation. Air->Fire->Earth->Water->Rinse and Repeat. Now, no two Ele’s rotation is exactly the same. They can change it up to either maximize might and DPS or Heal/tank more. This is what I use, but the way one should react when they see these attunements and attacks should generally remain the same.

Skills:
Signet of Restoration is the heal meta right now. For every attack an Ele does, they get back a little health. Maintaining distance while attacking is a great way to neutralize this. Eles don’t want to waste their cooldowns. So, they won’t spam them if they can’t hit the target. Thus, they lose healing. When they activate the signet, they gain roughly 3,275 health. After that, it takes 25 seconds to gain back any benefit from the signet. RAIN DOWN YOUR FURY AND FRUSTRATION UPON AN ELE IF YOU SEE THEM TRIGGER THIS. They can’t really do anything aside switch to water. And, when that’s gone, no more healing.

Cantrips are the current Ele’s lifeblood. Aside from their special effects, they also grant might and regeneration with the right traits equipped. Regeneration then does 1 condi clear with the proper trait as well. So, space out your conditions and interrupts to make the Ele waste these. It takes 30+ seconds for each one to recharge. Keep that in mind.

Fiery Greatsword does pretty decent DPS. If an Ele uses it though, their healing takes a fairly large hit. Lay on the DPS if you can.

General Tips:
Aside from knowing the rotations and how to react, there’s some general tips one can apply. D/D Eles cannot range to save their lives. Yes, they have a gap closers, but, if you can maintain distance (Rangers), they can’t really touch you. Immobilize Eles to keep them at bay and make them waste their cantrips. Also, if you can screw up an Eles rotation, it wrecks their life. Use interrupts and chill. Interrupts are a no brainer, especially when timed appropriately. Try them out in the fire and water phase to ruin healing and DPS for the Ele. Since chill slows down cooldown times, spam it everywhere if you can (especially in fire and water). Again, it ruins rotations. And don’t forget about the dodge rolls. Evasive Arcana gives each dodge roll a unique ability. If you can shut down the dodge rolls, Eles lose a lot of utility.

Another great tip to down people in PvP (Eles included) is to CALL OUT TARGETS. This small amount of coordination has made the difference in many games I’ve played. You can even call out targets when downed. Call targets on other downed players while you’re downed so you can rez off of them.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few things, and I’m sure that my rotation isn’t absolutely perfect, but this is a general idea on how to combat an Ele. It’s possible to kill us. We are squishy. Messing up our rotations creates big windows in which we are vulnerable. One just needs to recognize the signs and capitalize on them.

Why should anyone read this long post or play as ele to learn how to beat ele’s when they can just come in the forums and complain and wait for a nerf?

It’s continuously ironic to me that if ele is so OP, how come so many of them get steamrolled on “daily elementalist winner” day? If it’s soooo easy to just hop on ele and crush everyone, daily elementalist day should be a bloodbath for every other profession… except it’s not.

They need to bring back solo q. Yes I know this makes things worse for premades but at the end of the day, more people are solo q than premade.

They could even do a Solo Q, Fastest Match, and Premade. If you click “fastest match” and you’re solo, you have the risk of fighting a premade. League of Legends right now is probably the most successful pvp game out and if they did half the stuff anet does, it wouldn’t even exist because nobody would play it.

No. Burn is the current meta. Takes no skill and does crazy damage. Cover with a couple other conditions and a condi clear is pretty useless.

Thieves are pretty useless except in a top team
Mesmers are second strongest behind dd ele.

Thieves don’t seem that useless. Just played a game where a 2 thief duo went around nuking our entire team 1 by 1. If you tried to roam, even with 2 people, you were dead because when you try to retaliate they just stealth and run away, wait for initiative to recharge, and nuke you again.

As far as the current meta, seems to be that matchmaking is a total mess. That is the meta.

Queue time is longer because they need to find a premade for your pug to play against. If they aren’t careful, the match might end up 500 to 450 and that would be a tragedy that goes against their current matchmaking program. They need to do a lengthy evaluation to make sure the match ends 500 to 125.

Other than doing 1 a day for my daily i’m absolutely done with PVP and people can say “oh qq we won’t miss you”. Well guess what? I am not the only person that feels this way and every day that the pvp pop goes down, the crappier pvp is going to get.

LOL what kind of scrub team is letting you just sit there and stack might?

Good elementalists can might stack while having their skills hit, while fighting.

Yes, against a scrub. A good person is going to interrupt them or know that they have to execute the moves inside the fire field and they will knock them out of the fire field.

What I don’t get is, if D/D ele is so OP why isn’t it always just a game of 10 ele’s? Everyone says “oh well it’s not fun to win all the time”. BS. It has a higher skill cap than invisible thief spam buttons. It’s got a higher skill cap than Ranger going longbow 2,4,3 repeat. There’s a lot of people who are going to complain about D/D ele without even attempting to play D/D ele because they don’t have the time or patience to even learn the prof. As someone who plays a lot of ele, I can say for a fact it is much easier to counter an ele if you’ve played as one and it’s not an automatic win. I see plenty of trash ele’s out there that just blindly try to run the might stack rotation.

The fact that op thinks you can just make 25 stacks of might no problem shows he either doesn’t play ele or has had the luck of only playing against absolutely terrible competition.

Well how do you stop them from blasting might? Do you kill them?

Oh wait, you can’t kill them because they outsustain everything.

You’ll probably even die in the process

I don’t know if people on here are talking ranked or unranked or what but any GOOD players will use a disrupt. If I see an enemy ele trying to stack might I’m using air 5, earth 3, or earth 4 to disrupt them. Only scrub ele’s blindly face roll the might stack rotation trying to get to 15 stacks.

Feel free to watch any high level twitch player to verify but NOBODY at the top ranks goes into a fight and gets to 15 or 25 stacks of might unless they are against an awful team. They’re getting a couple stacks of might and otherwise moving on to the next attunement to use the right skills for the situation.

You can get your might stacks up while you’re on point waiting for someone, that’s fair, but now all your kitten is on cooldown so really not the greatest idea in the world but that’s just my opinion.

GW2 tournaments = boring, why?

in PvP

Posted by: TorsoReaper.8530

TorsoReaper.8530

The reason why GW2 isn’t enjoyable to watch is because you cannot follow what is going on, especially if you aren’t the player. snip.

Pretty much disagree with everything you wrote. The issue currently is that the sustain is too high. Who wants to watch a dd ele fight against a dd ele? That is about as boring as possible.

You can disagree, but he is not wrong.

Unless you are an avid pvp player in gw2, watching a tourney on stream is going to leave you saying “oh , cool sparkles and flashes, I have no idea whats going on, everythings moving fast, fights are all over the place. Time to go watch something else on twitch that I can actually understand”

There is reason why the WTS finals barely reached 10k viewers….Outside of Gw2 PvPers, no one is watching.
Not the MMORPG/Gaming community in general, not even the majority of the community in GW2 cares or watches.
Its because its not an entertaining watch, hard to follow for the avg outsider, unbalanced, same mode for 3 years, and it doesn’t appeal to anyone outside our own GW2 PvP community.

I think you are right in that only GW2 pvp’ers are watching but the 10,000 viewer count is low because right now anet is proactively driving people away from playing GW2 PVP. Think about the matchmaking balance issues, no soloq, no visible MMR or ranking system, etc… LOL wouldn’t have 25m players if they had all these shortcomings.

If anet wants more eyeballs and wants gw2 to be a serious esport, they have to start with the basics. People can complain about D/D ele all they want but if each team each had 1 D/D ele and those 2 were of equal skill, the complaining would be less relevant. Instead we get 1 good premade team fighting 5 people of whatever class is on the daily reward list and it ends 500 to 50.

Every match is pretty much a blowout and you just pray you’re on the side doing the stomping. Just got out of a match today where my team won 4 v 5 by like 150 points. We were the ones with 4 to be clear. Let me say that again. 4 of us beat 5 of them 500 to 350. In what world can someone disconnect and your team STILL blows out the other team? If we had that 5th man it would have been another typical anet 500-100 “balanced” pvp matches.

edit: this was ranked btw

Bring back solo queue [merged]

I’ve had 7 straight losses to teams so far tonight, the most recent one by over 400 points.

This is just stupidity. I can’t think of a faster way to drive people out of PvP.

This is exactly what I was going to say. If the whole reason they got rid of solo q was to speed up m/m time because of low pop, having all the matches be blowouts will only exacerbate the population problem. I just got out of a 100-500 game and I’m absolutely done with PVP. Out of my last 7 games, all were blowouts and I lost 5 and won 2 but none were even at all. The sad part is I really want to play pvp, I want to enjoy it, but without decent matchmaking, I’ll just go back to running dungeons and silverwastes.

Why is matchmaking sooooo horrible

TorsoReaper.8530

This has been here too for a long time. mainly because ANET only gives priority to team matchups. if your soloq’er you don’t stand a chance. Unfortunately, GW2 cannot be compared to matchmaking being done by other games such as LOL & WOW. sad to say they might have to employ one of their programmers to straighten up this mess.

I know I am necro’ing an old post but I was really trying to figure out wth is going on with matchmaking. As someone coming from LOL I expected rank play to be pretty bad my first few games but after 50 games I am still always in a blowout. Either kicking in someone’s teeth or getting my brains stomped out. I think I can count the “good games” on one hand. Basically I am flipping on coin to see if I’m going to win or lose by a mile. This isn’t matchmaking at all unless the algo says “make MMR of team Y = 5 * MMR of team X”. It is painfully obvious there’s absolutely no attempt by anet to make teams balanced.

sPVP Matchmaking doesn't look at profession?

Yes, it does look at professions and tries to get a variety. However, it’s less important than other factors like rating and group size and not always possible. Engineer and Ranger are both dailies today, so expect a larger number of them.

I guess that makes a lot of sense… I wasn’t paying attention to it but I wish MM would at least say “Ok 2 engi’s here and 2 engi’s here” or something like that. Both games were pretty terrible blowouts.

I usually play as D/D or S/D ele. I’m not a noob but I also am not good enough to carry a team so I still have to pray to the m/m gods.

Just got done playing a game where I was on a team with 3 engineers, next game me and 3 rangers. Of course the other team had a balanced set of professions because I have crap luck but that is neither here nor there.

My question is what is mm doing putting teams like this together?

Thanks for the quick reply, I remember using staff in WvW but I found it pretty boring. I guess in the meantime I’ll run some low level stuff to get back the feel of the game and hopefully I’ll figure out the specialization changes through osmosis once I remember what I’m doing.

I think the last time I played GW2 they had just buffed Tequatl to give you a sense of how long I’ve been gone. Aside from losing all muscle memory when it comes to stacking might I was trying to find out what the current meta is.

I used to run S/D with PVT armor and PPF daggers and sceptre. I have 2 usoku’s needles and a hypnotic sceptre. For staff if I go that way I have a Assassin’s pearl qtr staff. I am guessing I had so much precision and ferocity because I was running a fresh air build which i don’t even know if it is viable anymore.

Otherwise I remember it was stack might, lightning hammer, profit. Does that still work or is there something better?

I agree, it would be great if this could get fixed… it’s not fun to camp a map waiting for a boss and it’s not fun to be overflowed either. I would love to live in this game but I have a job and a wife.

I already know this has been brought up multiple times but I am going to bring it up again anyways. Overflows need world bosses. I don’t think I need to elaborate, it’s a pretty simple idea and I understand it’s probably easier said than done, but I do hope it’s on anet’s radar.

I guess if you waited for the game to come out, pre-purchased in April, listened to the hype and statements, got into the game at Beta and launch, and one year later we are here; it may seem a little disappointing.

I can understand that sentiment. I haven’t been playing since beta like a lot of people so the whole promise of “no grinding” was never made to me. However, I have played other games where you invest time and money only for something to get nerfed and ruin the game completely and I suppose for some people this is similar.

Not walk in the park handed to a player but obtainable in multiple ways and not something you grind for weeks to do.
However if you want the aesthetically pleasing, desirable skins, you better plan for an intense grind.

The game has only been out for a year. What if the point of ascended weapons is that if someone plays the game normally, does dungeons the way they want, world events they way they want, does it all on their schedule. Maybe in 2 years they’ll get an ascended “naturally”. For most people on this thread the recurring theme I see is impatience and jealousy. People are jealous other people will get the ascended first, or that they already have the gold “farmed up” to get one. Or they are impatient that they will “never” get an ascended and by never they mean that if they can’t get it in a month it’s BS and a-net is screwing everything up.

At the end of the day, and I have seen the recipe sheets, either you grind and get it fast, or you don’t and get it VERY slowly. But either way, unlike a legendary, there’s at least a set formula to get one vs throwing exotics in the furnace.

One other thing that is really desmotivating, is that at the end of all of this, the players that purely focus on farming and faming only, will once again end up richer.

Let me make sure I understand your argument. The players that focus on making gold the fastest way possible, will get gold faster than the players who wait for gold to come to them? It kind of sounds like real life. The guy that works 2 jobs to put himself through college and then works 100hrs a week as a lawyer will make more money than the guy who works 20hrs a week at a party time cushy job.

Yes I understand you want to play the game a certain way. However, don’t complain that it will take you too long to get an ascended weapon playing it the way you like it. It’s still 100% possible for you to get an ascended playing the game your way, it will just take a lot longer and you don’t have the patience. At least you have the option that, if you don’t want to wait, you can go farm up some mats or gold.

What is the alternative? Anet just gives away ascended weapons to anyone who walks up to an asceneded vending machine in LA? People want to work towards something so that when they finally get it, they feel a sense of achievement. This is what MMO’s strive for. Not just making people grind. The ultimate key is they want people to feel a sense of accomplishment, then set another goal post that people work towards to get that feeling again.

The richer will become stronger faster, the poorer will have to work harder. The more skilled players will be forced to farm, as well, because unlike what was advertised to us at the beginning, being skilled in this game means zero.

I 100% agree. I was running around in the Gendarran Fields an this guy who was obviously a farmer came up and started stomping my character. I couldn’t fight back since he had a legendary weapon, legendary armor, an epic mount, etc… Obviously all farmed. I was dodge rolling, casting spells, everything, but my skill could not stop him from killing me.

No matter how skilled someone is, they will never beat a farmer and that is why they shouldn’t have open world PVP in this game anymore. They should do a different PVP mode where everyone is given the same gear, pre leveled up to 80, and you can’t farm your pvp equipment.

Locked out of Clockwork Chaos events

TorsoReaper.8530

So at around 7pm I see that there is an event blazeridge steppes, i teleport over but i’m in overflow. I am asking around in chat, where is the event? More people teleport in asking “where is the event?”. Finally someone explains we are all locked out for an hour. YAY!!! I love living world events! >.<

So I wait around until 8pm, get into the event, and 15 minutes in I get a great message up on my screen…

“NEW BUILD AVAILABLE, GAME WILL RESTART IN ONE MINUTE” >.<

I log back in… guess what? LOCKED OUT AGAIN!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!!

Maybe, as a humble suggestion, people are not locked out of the events? Would that be so terrible?

Karma hoarding - wanted warning about change

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TorsoReaper.8530

This is totally our fault, we dropped the ball on this plain and simple. We planned to have this messaged ahead of time to be fair to everyone, communication broke down between those who knew it was supposed to be messaged, and those who were supposed to message it and it simply didn’t happen.

As game director this is ultimately my fault first and foremost, and I’m sorry for those who potentially lost some karma as a result. It is our policy to message these kind of changes ahead of time with lots of warning, I’ll do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

I’d recommend not using your karma consumables yet, give us a day or two to try and see what options we have available to help mitigate the issue.

Thank you for this. I was only a couple laurels away from a karmic infusion so that’s what I was saving for. As someone who doesn’t get to play this game a ton, it takes me a long time to save up both jugs and laurels so this would have been devastating to me.

I will make a note for the devs:

I started an elementalist today just to try it out. If I was a brand new player, and one of the first powers I have access to doesn’t work, I’d probably just drop this game immediately. You guys really need to fix this right away. It makes a terrible first impression.

I’m brand new (bought the game on the 2nd) and this was VERY confusing for me. I couldn’t decide whether I’d rather turn off auto attack and spam 1 or just never use some of my spells. Glad to see everyone thinks this is a bug because that gives me hope it might get fixed.
