The only thing that was “one time”, was the minute-long-cutscene. The dungeon is repeatable. So you can do it again and again and again once they’ve fixed it.
Disappointed that the server crashed? Yep.
Was this preventable? Dunno, I’m not a technician.
But it’s not the end of the world as we know it.
True, I will probably remember this until the next christmas event, but I am lucky I have the ability to shrug it off and move on.
How’s the blood pressure doing?
Zoom in if it bothers you?
I really could not care less. It was fun to do And for a mini dungeon that only took 30 minutes with 2 players, the reward was decent enough.
Yes please! Dont’want to have to get a creditcard.
Can’t really help you there. What’s letting me come back every day is the fact that I love exploring for the sake of exploring, helping friends and random strangers and generally not working towards any goal (controversial as that may sound – I don’t use the game to achieve something, I use the game to relax).
One thing I did notice was “I really thought this would be my messiah for MMORPGs …”
Isnt it possible you let yourself get hyped up to the point where the game was bound to be a disappointment anyway? Every time I’ve let myself get carried away like that in the past, the game in question turned out to be disappointing. Mainly because you come to expect certain features in the game, and if those are not there, you’ll miss them even more to the point where you stop playing. Where if I approach a game more open-minded and let the game guide me instead of my own expectations, it turns out way more fun than I expected it to be.
I have never been alone on my server, nor have any cries for help in mapchat gone unanswered, but there are less players for DEs. Which is not always a bad thing. Last night I did my daily in queensdale and participated in the bandits-poisoning-the-water-supply event. I got there halfway in the DE. There were a few other players, but we did not manage to stop the bandits from poisoning the water. This activated an event where we had to kill blobs to let an NPC create an antidote… an outcome I have not seen yet on that particular DE, because there have always been enough players around to finish the initial quest. Occasionaly failing a DE lets you see a whole new questchain. Plus it’s also nice that there is the option for failure. Makes events and regions more challenging. Don’t want to steamroll the entire game like I did when I first got there during headstart, and there were 30-50 people in every event.
I need a place on the forum to relax and take a break from the fanboys, the whiners, the haters, the white knights, the black knights, the harcores, the casuals, the desillusioned and the hopeful.
I need a place to let go of the complaints, praises, critiques, brainbashing, kittenkissing, and the excessive use of the word kitten.
I need a place to relax, lay back, get into my zen, goof off and post rambling nonsense with people with whom I’ve just had a raging discussion.
Without having to leave these forums
Please give us an offtopic section?
it’s fun to kill the time while you are gathering players for a dungeon for example. So I would not mind it being permanent
I do like the idea of player housing. I would love it even more if it wasn’t instanced but rather like an entire new city made solely by players houses. You could walk through that city, admire other peoples homes (nice to brag about your home ), and even enter other peoples home, but unfortunately I don’t think that would be viable for GW2 for technical reasons. But a girl can dream
One thing about the buffs though: how would you make sure the buffs weren’t too OP? Okay, you would not be able to one-shot everything. But where is the challenge is for example dungeons would be like a walk in the park because you cannot die anymore? I guess you could turn your buffs off, creating a challenge for yourself. But if you form a group with others, you could very easily fall into the “elitism trap” – ie “you need to have X otherwise we won’t have you in the party” crap.
It’s difficult to find a good balance.
It doesn’t have to be gear, it doesn’t have to be leveling, but it HAS to be something that affect your CHARACTER in a meaningful way, not just the player.
Any ideas?
If it was too easy to get gold, prices would inflate even more. That shiny 300 g sword would become that shiny 30000 g sword. Ie: it solves nothing.
Dear Patriarch,
I am sorry to read about your plight. Maybe I can offer you some advice. I heard there are excellent self-defense teachers in The Mists. I would suggest you train there, come back, and make him feel your discomfort in a VERY nasty place the next time he hits on you.
Sincerely,
Tosha
Tried switching servers? I’ve come across a few on Desolation, but not nearly enough to make me throw my pc out of the window.
@Tosha Daydreamer.9251
Only brain damaged monkeys here are ppl who ant read they are not invited to topic. What i like and wish to see is my own concern, if you dont like it you are fro to go to topics that invite and support fanboys and buyers.
I’ll quote yourself:
it may be wrong but you can point out flaws if you wish.
By your own invitation, I did point out the flaws in your arguments. If you only want people telling you what you want to hear, a public internet forum might not be the best place to start a discussion.
Again? You are really obsessed with the gem shop stuff, arent you?
I’ll humor you.
The game is 1.5 months old. Unless you have an entire guild backing you plus hours a day to game, you cannot expect something like a Dusk yet. Legendaries were supposed to be extremely rare and extremely hard to get, so I guess they’re serving their purpose.
Same for the Halloween items. I had two keys to spend last night that I saved from last week. Didnt get a weapon skin, but I’m not whining, nor spending my hard earned RL moneyz. Those skins too are supposed to be rare, hard to get and special. You get lucky, or not. There are items out there that you can get easily, and there are da spesjul stuffs.
Seriously, if every brain damaged monkey got every special item handed to them ingame, they would not be special now, would they?
And I’ll say this in the nicest way possible: you sound like a spoiled child you throws a tantrum when mommy tells him he can’t have that shiny diamond necklace to play with. Learn the meaning of “long term goal” and “patience”.
2g ^^ I spent a lot maximizing my crafting recently. But I can’t really remember a time when I had more than 3g tbh.
It’s enough for me atm to have fun. Doing dungeons to get exotic stuff, and the rest of the time I pretty much wander the world whereever I feel like it.
I’m not trying to farm, not going for legendaries, not planning on buying my gear and MF stats are totally wasted on me, but I’m happy :p
They are empty, so it would be nice to see them populated again. It’s a kitten shame that big, beautiful cities like that get ignored.
Since my fun comes from exploring, helping random strangers and chatting away in map chat, I think this game hits the mark for me When I do a dungeon for example, I really don’t care about setting a record time, as long as I have a group to joke around with. Have not been disappointed so far.
Because you do not need to buy a gem shop costume to participate?
I salute your bravery :p
Wauw, I’m just blown away by your arguments. Very coherent and well-thought out openingspost. You need to give me some time to digest all this so I can come up with a respons that is worthy of your amazing debating skills.
sigh I am a sarcastic kitten today.
Someone starts a topic about necros, and of the 5 replies in the last 4 hours, 3 were about rangers, one about mesmers, and only 1 actual useful post that could be helpful to the discussion.
I know, I know, my post is the 5th useless one, but I still could not resist pointing it out.
*Edit: kinderghast posted when I was typing this, but I can’t fit his/her post in one of the above categories anyway
still at work, have to wait 7 more hours before I can play anything
My boyfriends main character is a necro. He is very fond of his beloved necro, loves playing it and is oblivious of the “life siphon healing mobs” bug and other issues. I’m not going to tell him. He stays away from the forum, thus noticing bugs less and enjoying the game more.
For me, I’m thankful that I still have the ability to shrug whenever I encounter a bug or bot. I have played AoC when it was first released, and even though I loved the game, the bugs eventually made me quit, and that was WITHOUT reading any forums whatsoever. GW2 could improve, certainly. But it’s not "critical’ yet – unless you dwell on the forums too much.
Sure, you can turn off emotes, but this is cleary trolling. Just report him ingame for spamming and let Anet decide how they want to handle him.
Um, rather than involving France, wouldn’t it be more the case the you can’t use the word on NA servers because you might offend French Canadians?
That is too far. I’m a dutchie on an english speaking server. I understand that when I see someone use “lul” or “lulz” (instead of “lol”), he does not mean the dutch word “lul” – which is a very rude word for male genitalia- but actually just means “lol” (unless of course, he is a dutch person trolling, but that can be determined by context :p)
If you are a frenchie on an english server, you should be able to understand that the average english person does not understand your meaning of the word “bite” and that it’s highly likely that he didn’t mean it like that.
Frenchies on a french server – that is a different matter.
I, and I guess most other players as well, am grown up enough that I can understand the difference between a deliberate insult and simple miscommunication or language barrier.
And longcoats tend to clip horribly with Charr tails… A-net sure made themselves alot of work with that decision.
And with daggers. If I want to preview daggers as a (Sylvari) thief, I have to undress first. When I’m standing still, my daggers are invisible (which kind of sucks, because now I see no point in looking for nice skins for my daggers)
Okay, let’s pretend for a moment that PvE and PvP are stricktly separate – to the point where your PvE gear and skills cannot be used in PvP and vice versa.
You say you still would like gear progression for PvE. Why? What’s the point? Gear gets better, but bosses get tougher, so you won’t notice the difference in difficulty anyway. There is downscaling, so even though you as level 80 are -already- more powerful in a level 10 area, you are still not powerful enough to get that Omagad-I’m-One-Shotting-Everything-In-Sight-Uber-God-Mode-Power-Rush.
So why would you want gear progression? It’s just as “pointless” as the cosmetic progression.
Let’s face it: the only difference is the psychological difference that stems from a decade of “gear treadmill brainwashing”.
Take a step back and try to analyse why you REALLY need the better stats, and make it a different reason than “because unicorns*”.
*replace unicorns by either “it’s fun” (why?) or “MMO’s have always been about gear progression” (invalid – because something has always been like something, is no reason to continue doing it)
GW1, same design philosophy. Top guilds and players were admired because when they playing field was leveled – everyone had the same stats, skills and gear – they could still kick you hard in less than 3 seconds. Because they played smart, worked together, got creative. They practised a helluvalot.
That, my dear carrot-lovers, is skill and brains. Such people should never, ever be ground down because a 6 year old could grind his brains out and get better gear.
If I have to choose between a game that favors brains (skill)> time and a game that features gear (time) >skill, I would choose the first one every time. Hey, let that be GW and GW2.
Those who are whining the hardest, are probably the ones who fail the hardest.
or just ask in mapchat – usually someone there knows the answer
Let me guess: you did the asura area with an character other than an asura? Because for an Asura, those old lines are still there, but you can’t expect an inferior race like, for example, the charr to understand complex matters like charging the external flux matrix, do you? No, all they see are colored wires and strange thingamajingies.
Long story short: it depends on the race you are playing with. Which in my opinion, is a very, VERY cool detail ^^

One thing I want to comment on: My guess is that the gem prices are now waaaaay up because people are starting to stockpile them for the halloween event Try looking at the prices of gems after halloween, see if that will be different (I expect it will)
Trenchcoat would be a better description :p
You could try to advertise FC as a new RP server on different forums. As I understand, the other one (TC) is full, so maybe you’ll attract a new crowd this way.
“were I am not getting out geared by people who play more than me.”
yeah god forbid a game reward people for you know playing the game, what a silly concept.
I play games to have fun and relax after a hard working day, not to get rewards.
Pogo and Farmville sound right up your alley not MMOs, they have always been driven by rewards for timed played.
That it “has always been about reward for time” is not strictly true (GW1 had the same system as GW2) plus it’s a non-argument. That something “has always been like this” is no reason to continue that way. Hell, if everybody thought like that, the wheel wouldn’t have been invented.
They didn’t in GW1, and I don’t expect it in GW2, because they specifically promised us no gear treadmill.
Is it oct 22nd yet?
bounces
Really? I thought I had read somewhere…
Drat, now I’m going to have to find sources.
**Edit: foundz: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/news/827-official-response-to-questions-on-orichalcum-ore-mithirl-ore-and-ancient-wood-respawns/
I like the 3D part and the fluidness. I don’t like the limited weapons and skills (as a thief, I can only use a spear or a speargun) and the fact that my DPS is way lower in the water than on land.
And I hate – HATE – barracudas.
I usually avoid water combat as much as I can. I hope they’ll improve it in the future.
They respawn every day (server time). They basically reset at 0.00 am.
I don’t know about the locations.
Ah, at least the game does not tempt me to spend more money than I can spare
I don’t really care about gem store items… except minipet packs (I am a minipet addict).
Players who have added you to their friends list, but who are not on yours.
no carrot on a stick in any game is bad plain and simple.
it doesn’t have to be gear but there should always be a carrot somewhere in a game, otherwise why bother?
lets be clear this game is not yet polished enough to be without a carrot to entice players to keep playing or better yet spend their money in the kitten poor effort that is the gem store.
the bugs the shocking trading post the rendering issue in pve and pvp is game breaking pure and simple.
This game needs a carrot right now.
I agree with you that there could be more carrots, but I think the OP means gear carrots specifically
Other (better) carrots could be more skins, leaderboards, new events and areas… anything as long as it’s not stat-based, I’m okay with it
So… Your favorite weapon is a garden tool?
Let’s work in our garden >:)
I agree. I would love to hear more about future plans and timeframes, even if it’s all still vague.
but but
It shoots rainbows…
I often get “invisible topics” – topics that have not been merged, moved or closed, but I still can’t see the posts. Often I can circumvent this by viewing the posts of the OP and opening the topic from there, but sometimes, that does not work either. I have posted in some of those topics before. Sometimes, I can click on a topic 10 times and I can read it without problems, but the 11th time, it goes invisible and there’s no turning back then.
It’s rather annoying, I want to keep reading interesting topics – not “post and run”.
@ Cerise: It’s the same with one difference: cooler looking stuff does not let you beat the living kitten out of players who might be better than you, but simply don’t have the time to grind as much as you do. (time>skill)
In other words: if you want to compete in GW2, you don’t have to grind. In other games it’s not if you want to compete.
There is no MUST in the grind. I alone decide if the looks are worth grinding for. If they’re not, I don’t have to bother and I can still enjoy all aspects of the game AND be competetive.
