tbh, I don’t take threads like this serious anymore. On any MMO forum, even WoW, there are people yelling “ohmagod this game is dying and if they fix A and b it’s going to be all right but now it’s DYYYYIINNGG”.
In the end, I am still having fun, my server is still heavily populated, content updates keep coming and I’m not reading anywhere that Anet is planning to pull the plug out of GW1, let alone GW2.
I would not try it if you value your account.
the karma reward not good enough?
Meh, I would prefer them fix the clipping issues with the current armors first. Daggers + leather armor = fail.
I don’t like underwater combat. As thief, I can use a spear or a speargun. Speargun = spamming skills 1 and 2, sometimes 3. Spear = spamming 1 and 5, sometimes 2.
that’s it. No tactics. Not the movement-filled combat I have above ground. The only utility skills I can use are poisons.
I avoid water combat whenever I can.
This happens to me when there are too many players in one area (for example The Zerg in wvw or the dragon bosses in PvE). Game gets laggy and has trouble rendering. I just avoid the zergs.
Might help.
That’s fine. As far as I’m concerned, there is not a war between the games. Some people will like WoW better, some will stick to what GW2 has to offer. Myself, I could never get into WoW (and it’s clones), though I’ve tried several times, even bought a few expansions (in the hope things would get “better”).
Besides, no one is forcing you to choose. You are still welcome to come back to GW2 anytime to sniff the vibe or maybe some new content, and then to go play WoW again No subs rock ^^
My main is a female Sylvari thief. Basically because I’ve had the name “Tosha daydreamer” since GW1 and I wanted my main to adopt it. My other characters are either male or female, depending on race (human males are too sissy looking, while Asura females are too boring for example). I was a little disappointed with the male faces though. They are too pretty-boyish. If I want to create a MAN, I have to look elsewhere.
Now. Guess my gender.
I want a guild like my WoW raid guild. 30-40 people who are online regularly and an active guild chat where you actually know each other. Those massive guilds are like map chat imo and I don’t like them at all. I’m not the only one.
I want this too. My GW1 guild had “only” 20-30 members, but they were active members and guild chat was always a blast. Too bad they’ve all succumbed to RL.
It’s very, very difficult to find such a guild in GW2 though.
I was against the multi-guild feature since they announced it. Even though I’m not a guild leader, I am someone who enjoys chatting, and an active guildchat is very important for me. But now you have guilds of 100-400 people, 10-30 are online, only 5 are representing, and those 5 are too busy elsewhere to chat. I have yet to find a guild with which I can indulge my chat-cravings.
Guilds are way too diminished this way. And I don’t understand Anets reasons for implementing it either.
Meanwhile, my search for The Perfect Guild continues.
On Desolation, I have no complaints about the community and the chats. However, I agree that Orr brings out the worst in people. I think it’s because Orr is a farm area, so people ditch the nicety and go for maximum efficiency. And like in RL, maximizing efficiency means sacrificing humanity. Even though I myself always try to help when I’m able, I have seen some things happen in Orr that I have not seen in other areas.
For example: I had just finished a skill point when I saw another player rushing toward it. There were some risen near the skill point, so I stayed around for a few more seconds to kill 2 risen to give that other player faster access to the skill point. However, I did not see the 4 mobs he had running behind him. He ran past me, his fanclub attacked me, and he just went to the skillpoint and ignored me and my suddenly less-than-fair fight.
This was a first in my 250 hours of playing – happened two days ago. Didnt feel like getting mad though. I just ran back to him, turned my invisibility on and vanished off a cliff. Didnt look back.
You get what you give. You’re being a jerk when I’m trying to play nice? Fine, then I’ll be a jerk too. But this is rare though. Most people fortunately appreciate me being a little bit more helpful, and that goes a long way in improving the community.
My secret method is making legendaries a LONG TERM GOAL.
As in: not getting one in the first year of the game. Everyone is so fixed on wanting the kitten things NAO…
I just didn’t seem as engrossed in the game as I thought I would be. Don’t get me wrong I love MMO’s but I just felt that GW2 was a bit lackluster, however I want to play it if that makes sense.
Dunno. Did you let yourself get overhyped? That is always a giant buzzkill. But I can’t really help with getting you “engrossed” in the game without knowing what you like to do in games that make you want to come back
Dunno, what was your major disappointment? What do you think is fun?
Too bad you missed the Halloween event though.
If you are on the Desolation server, you can poke me when you see me online.
I agree that a more fair solution would have been that you could not access WvW for X days after a server transfer, but I don’t know how hard that would be to implement.
And yes, guesting should have been here already.
But guesting is not there yet, and people were taking too much advantage of the server transfers. So SOMETHING had to be done.
Really? :p
Can you talk about what’s in the November 15th build?
•Beta version of a new sPvP map for people to test and give feedback on, if people like it they’ll add it to the permanent PvP rotation•Weekend long event that permanently changes the world in some places and opens up a new island that people can explore – small map with a lot of fun stuff and a storyline across the weekend that changes the world
•Brand new type of dungeon to be added – gets harder the further you get in, really big with a ton of levels
•New rewards to the game that are buried deep within the new dungeon
Do you plan on having any sort of server first announcements for the dungeon?
•Still talking on if they want to do server first announcements•One of the things they want is make sure they have messaging so players can tell who are the best at different things, who have gotten the farthest in different areas
•Going to do more for WvW rankings each week and build towards having an official site where you can go and see all of that information (currently in the works and should be coming out very soon™)
How big will the new island be in November and what will be its setting or theme?
•It’s not a full-sized map, it’s a place where they want the storyline to play out•It will stay behind after the weekend with new content
•Not intended as a big end-game expansion
•Live team will add more and more content to the island later down the road
•Will have new rewards that you can’t get anywhere else in the game
•Theme-wise – have to wait and see
Huh, I must not have read it very closely.

As far as I know, it will remain ingame.
Yep… originally, you only had one or two weeks after launch to reclaim your names in GW2. They’ve given you a lot more time than that. It sucks, but I doubt there’s anything you can do.
Right now, I am very curious about the november update. Even though they stated that it wasn’t meant to introduce “big endgame expansion”, there is this: “•Brand new type of dungeon to be added – gets harder the further you get in, really big with a ton of levels” (source: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/news/870-mmorpg-interview-with-colin-johanson/)
This is promising. If they do this correctly, it will hopefully be a new challenge to sink your teeth in, with some actual progression as you get better. Now imagine they doing this with more than one dungeon, maybe in future expansions…
November will be the chance for Anet to show us where they want to take the game… AND the endgame. I for one am not going to draw some conclusions before that update.
I guess because people were exploiting it for WvW. One member of a guild could, for one day, switch servers and spy on the enemy team and its movements.
I have not spend any money, but that was only because I did not have any to spend. I wanted the minipets So yeh, when I get my yearly bonus for christmas, I am going to buy stuff. Definetely minipets, rest depends on the items. Never keys.
I have to say Josh, I am impressed by your posts here. You show you can handle feedback, either positive or negitive. You’ve shown that you listen and care. But most of all, you communicate with your playerbase.
It inspires a lot of faith in me that next halloween (or any content updates you are a part of) will be even better than this one.
Tybalt, Sayeh, Mad King and Zojja. I particularly look forward to the mad king-sayeh conversations ^^
This probably sounds very fangirlish, but I honestly don’t care.
Even though I did not complete the JP, it was one of the most impressive features this Halloween, and I love it for that. It was memorable, challenging, fun (even though I died a lot), and did I mention memorable?
The Inquisition was my favorite feature to do, but the jumping puzzle was awe-inspiring. I admire everyone who managed to finish it
My boyfriend got an exotic on his first and only run, I got one on my fourth and last run. Guess we were both lucky. ^^
The event is not over yet, you still have a few hours… but yes, there was a hat.
I’ll be sad when it’s over

It’s not hard to find. In fact, it’s on this subforum.

I passed on the gambling game with the chests, but so far, I’ve done everything else and loving it ^^
… polymock?
You want an example of a MMO without gear progression?
GW1
I wasn’t aware of this feature. Maybe she can send you some items worth 1.5 g in the meantime?
So the fact that u can use bots and hack , and not get ban is completely ok right ? As is fact that to anet, boters/hack users are same as i , who try play legit. Since u all chose to ignore this problems i guess you deserve game as it is .
Where did anyone say it is okay or that bots and hackers should not get banned? Au contraire, everyone’s complaining. And I did not read anywhere that to anet, hackers and bots are the same as regular players. No, they have recruited an entire team solely dedicated to stopping bots. So either please provide me with some quotes to support your statement or stop putting words in other peoples mouths.
That I am willing to give Anet a little bit more time to solve this problem, does not mean I am ignoring it. (since I know how difficult it can be, having been a game admin for a popular browser game myself a few years ago. Even there bots were everywhere, and whenever a new tool was implemented to detect them, the bots adapted themselves. It’s a never-ending battle).

Thanks, I will check them out online
Fair enough. Other MMOs must have trained me to ignore those words when talking about updates because 80% of the time, they aren’t.
True, but how’s the halloween update so far?
I did not expect such a huge event, which makes me really excited for the non-seasonal-event-update in november.
Only thing I’m worried about is that Anet will overwork itself trying to have this many content updates
*Edit: not trying to get you hyped up, and please slap me in the face if I sound too hyped up myself. I’ve fallen in that trap more than once too.
@kiranslee For the same reason you don’t rob a bank or store to get easy cash.
I want a mountain-made-of-apple-pies jumping puzzle. Where at the top, you can jump in a giant apple pie and eat your heart out.
In real life please.
here’s a solution: run around in zones that are for lower levels than you. Is easier.
I would actually prefer a different nemesis. The dragons are so flat storywise. Give me a creative villain and storyline!!

Hiya
I am looking for a guild to meet some new people and expand my horizons a little bit I’m on Desolation, and because all of my friends are there as well (and because I really like the Desolation community), I would rather not transfer to another server.
I am interested in both PvE and PvP. I have one level 80 and several alts. I do have a fulltime job, so I’m not online every evening. Call me casual ^^ Fair warning: I like sarcasm.
And I’m very, very picky when it comes to guilds.
My little wishlist:
- Adult / mature
- PvX
- No voicechat mandatory. I’m shy in the beginning and I prefer to chat in guild chat (which I can do for hours and hours) rather than talk on TS or vent. When I’m comfortable with the group, I’ll join voicechat. Which takes me to my next item on the wishlist
- Active guildchat
- Guild events
- Not too large – I’d rather have a nice little group than a huge 400-player-guild
- Relaxed atmosphere. I play this game to relax, not to UBERPWNRAZORNESS DA NOOBZ.
And please, don’t send me a guild invite without talking to me first. I would like to know the guild a little bit before I click “join”. So guild invites without talking to me first = instant rejection.
If this has not put you off, I would like to hear from you either ingame or here on the forum

Breaking news! MMOs contain repetitive activities that are often times 100% optional.
In other news: water is wet.
