For me, it’s because he turned MY personal story into my personal sidekick story. I want to feel the hero
I have no use for my invites, so I can invite your friend for you if you want. PM me his emailadress and your name

I sincerely hope that this is the case. and that it’s not too hard for a “dungeon newbie” to team up with his fully geared friend.
Meh. Go spam your “LFG don’t care about level/gear” and if you don’t get a group waay before those other people, I’ll eat my right arm.
I cross my fingers and hope you are right. If you are, this is not such a bad idea.
But we’ll just have to wait for future expansions to tell how it’s going to work out.
It’s rather the other way around: IF you want to repeat the dungeon, then you need to have ascended gear (or rather: the infusions).
If you plan on doing the dungeons only once or twice, I don’t think you NEED the Ascended stuff.
I’m not going to skip the event. Yes, I’m disappointed with the direction Anet seems to take. But I want to experience this new stuff for myself before I make any final judgment. Who knows, maybe I come to really love this new dungeon type.
I’ll post again on this topic on the 19th
Nope, youre killing this game for yourself. I guess you dont realize that the new gear, as far as I’ve read, will only impact your progression IN THE ACTUAL DUNGEON.
Please quote the sentence where they state those new stats will be dungeon-specific and that you can’t use the items in, let’s say, WvW.
I can’t seem to find it.
I’m disappointed in Anet. Until now I had faith that they would stick to their design choices and manifesto. But they’ve thrown that out of the window after just 3 months.
I will probably keep playing, since there isnt really another game out there that appeals to me right now. But the magic is definately gone.
I’m not done with my exotics, had only two days ago decided what armor I wanted to go for. I didn’t mind that I would take longer to get there compared to other players, I do have a life and so I simply can’t play daily. I didn’t mind because I knew I would get there eventually. Now I don’t see myself getting there. I’ll just keep on falling further and further behind. If they introduce a new tier of gear this fast, I simply can’t keep up. And yes, that takes away a lot of the appeal for me. It’s that feeling that no matter how much I do, I will never achieve that freedom that I felt when I first got to level 80. Simply because that is not good enough anymore.
It’s a huge bummer and yes, I feel slapped in the face. They have not “taken everything we love about GW1 and put it in a persistent world”. They’ve simply taken “Wow and tried to cram it in the GW universe”.
Feels like a cold shower. I’m definately not excited for this new Lost Shores update anymore.
Directly from the blog post:
New Ascended Gear & Infusions
Introducing Ascended items, artifacts of great power that can be improved by a special new type of upgrade called Infusions, which can be found in dungeons. Look for more information about Ascended gear soon!Ascended ITEMS with Infusion slots. These are whole new gear pieces people, NOT a new tier of armor. kitten the new dungeon deals with “fractals” that get harder the more you go in. Anyone though that maybe, just maybe, these new “ascended Items” are just gear pieces made for this particular dungeon (and likely for similar future dungeons), where you might have to upgrade you “infusions” based on certain fractals?
That actually sounds pretty cool. It’s basically a form of progression that isn’t necessary, but gives a reason to keep re-doing this dungeon.
Want to complete the dungeon once?
Cool, you can. You don’t need Ascended gear or Infusions to do it. You finished, have fun.Want to run it multiple times and challenge yourself with higher difficulty each time?
Cool, go for it. Make sure you have your Ascended item and the proper Infusion. This literally helps both sides of this coin. If you like to grind and like to max stats, you can grind the fractals till the become so difficult you start to bleed from the ears, and you can min-max on the infusions to your hearts content. If you just like to experience content once or twice you can run this dungeon a few times do that and you’ll have no issues with it.
This is an intelligent understanding of what we know so far and I hope to God you are right.
Indeed. If it’s like this, I would actually be happy with it.
crosses fingers
Invite for what? Party? Guild? Game trial?
Wait. I know raging is good as it requires less coffee intake over the course of the day but we don’t know the exact details yet. Whilst I am not exactly excited about a possible treadmill finding its way in either I am willing to wait for more details.
This. Hold back the keejerk respons and be patient… when we know more details, THEN we can get our pitchfork and torches and go on a complete rampage…
It will be to late to complain afterwards as they are not going to remove stuff
And you think that they’re going to reverse it 4 days before the update launches?
But still, I would like to hear from a dev that this isnt meant as a gear treadmilly, power creepy, forum-QQ-ers-pleasing update and that we’ve all interpreted the articles wrong.
I really, really DONT want any kind of gear progression after exotics.

i’m not going to say anything until I see the armor and its effects with my own eyes.
But I do hope the doomsayers are wrong.
The devs said in an interview a few months back that they wanted to implement fishing, “but could not get it right” and that they’ll try to implement it in a future update or expansion.
But of couse, I can’t find the source anymore :/
Can you imagine your character talking like a quaggan for the entire game? :p
“oooOOOooo, what’s this heeEEEeeerreee?”
Long answer: “Hoo! Yes.”
Technically, that would be “HooooOOOoooo yes”
Don’t be lazy

In GW1, things like candy came back every year – so I’m just saving it. You can also sell them on the trading post if you want. The books… maybe you can use them on alts?
Wait until you get to the “get to the other side without getting seen” heart :p You’ll want to tear your eyes out.
TBH, I liked both these hearts. It was something different than the “kill X centaurs” stuff you normally get.
But to make you feel better: no, there are not a lot of this kind of hearts in the game.
ps: you know that you can dodge, use speed buffs and scare away the rabbits, don’t you? Makes it so much easier…
Because I don’t like zerging. I know it is fun in a small, coordinated group, but so far I have not found a fun, small, coordinated group to play with.
will probably get into it later, when my friends reach level 80.
I want a combination of the Sylvari T1 and T3 armor for my main. Going to transmute it with dungeon exotics for the stats.
I’m going for cultural because I don’t see a lot of people wear them, and it fits my character better than the dungeon armor. A sylvari with flamy armor seems a little bit off in my opinion.
It’s worth the effort for me, but to each his own.
Yes, the ele is weak and squishy compared to other characters, but I’ve found so far (level 20-ish), that no class beats the ele when it comes to mob control and support. Blinds, knockdowns, heals and slows – the ele has all that and more. And what’s more important – it can annoy larger groups of mobs than other characters.
So yes, it’s harder to play, but it definitely has its advantages.
But then, what do I know, my ele is only level 20.
This is pretty much why my butt stays comfortably in Desolation despite the WvW POIs being a pain to get :p
You can always do most of the daily on an alt, then switch to your main for, say, the last type of enemy kill.
I hope it is so difficult and deep that I won’t see the end of it for another year.
Challenge accepted.
Unfortunately he lives very far away and their forum is empty.
Hmm… Ask his mom to wake him up with a bucket of ice cubes?
Honestly, unless there is another member of BTW of someone in his friends list strolling these forums, there is not much we can do for you.
You can always go ahead and start playing, and use the free server transfer to transfer to his server afterward.
Wait till he wakes up, then ask him? Or you could wake him up with a bucket of icecubes if you are really impatient (and it’s funny :p). Or search for BTWs forum. Other than that, I can’t help you.
I want to know their story. What’s their culture, their history, why did they come to tyria? Who are they?
You could try sending in a support ticket, but I don’t think it’s possible.
Yeh, this is a little surprise they implemented after a couple of players did exactly what you did in the beta :p
1. yes
2. no
3. Uh, server time, I guess… not sure though.
Wow, this is extreme. You remember the name of the guild by any chance? Not that I’m going to call them out or start a trollfight, but I’m sure as hell going to avoid them.
Looks good to me, but my main can’t use greatswords. I probably would craft it for my character if it could use greatswords, but I didnt really look into the different greatswords that are out there. If it’s worth it, only you can decide for yourself
And I guess someone has made one, otherwise there wouldnt be any screenshots of it :p
That’s not really the type of was referring to. That one’s cool, but not amazing (you can get one with red lightning for doing CoE). I was more referring to these:

O.o?? I never knew about these…

Here’s a list that I just found thanks to Woodenpotatoes’ video. Gives me a whole other list of Stuff To Do ^^
I don’t miss it. It always felt like a chore list, and I got enough of those at work.
But heart events are still somewhat of the old-fashioned quest-lists.
Still having fun, a few weeks after hitting level 80. Just doing whatever I feel like doing when I log in.
Worth it to me, I want the dagger. But it’s a Long Term Goal for me. As in: probably not within a year. And that’s fine for me. I’ll just keep playing the way I want to and eventually I will have the gold and items (in between collecting dyes and minipets of course).
The only people who are bitter about the cost are the people who want it NAO, and go into a huge tantrum if they can’t get it yesterday with minimum effort.
Can you handle praise then? Because it sure as hell doesnt seem like it :’)
Sounds like you need to get off the forums. And this is also why I never visit the profession forums anyway. Too much whine gets to your head, if you want it or not.
I recently made a new elementalist, and I really enjoy it. The 4 elements give me more skills to play with than with any other character, save maybe the engineer. You can also combine your own skills to create combo effects, if you swap efficiently.
But my ele is only level 15 now, I havent even discovered all weapon skills yet
:-( So my PvE experience and fun could be stopped because some guys got killed by a Thief in PvP !!
Or it could be stopped because some dev made a mistake in an update causing an unwanted nerf.
It could be stopped because some player discovers an exploit.
It could be stopped because the devs suddenly decide to switch all daggers to pillows and all shortbows to chocolatebars.
My point is: stop worrying about what MAY happen and why and don’t let it ruin your day. Just enjoy it how it is now. And if there will be a nerf, you’ll learn to work around it if you are flexible enough.
Honestly, I feel like kicking you so hard you will never look at these forums again For your own good, of course.
As a thief who only occasionaly visits WvW I say: ignore the forums and enjoy your thief.
I would have said this to anyone asking if they should continue their character “because it might get nerfed”. It is nonsense to stop playing something you enjoy because MAYBE it will get SOME nerfs in the future. Hell, if you stopped playing every time someone said that, you might as well not play at all.
As it is now, I enjoy my thief. It has been nerfed before, didn’t stop me then or lessened my experience in any way.
I beseech you: don’t let the whiners ruin your fun. Not worth it!
Yes, because you desperately NEED a legendary to play the game and it’s in no way intended as a long-term, optional goal.
1) everyone has a different opinion of what “grind” is.
2) Whenever a game developer puts in content that is hard to get (for example: legendaries), it will automatically introduce a grind. Only when a game developer does not put in any content that is hard to get or rare, then you won’t have any grind, but you would not have anything to work toward either.
3) Players will always look for the easy way out. And the easy way out are the gold sellers.
and 4) As long as the bots sell gold cheaper than Anet, I can’t possibly see how it’s a win-win situation for Anet.
The only way to totally prevent bots from even trying to get into your game is a) forbid player-to-player trading (so they can’t sell their stuff) or b) don’t put expensive
and rare items in your game. At all.
Let’s just agree to disagree. I’ve seen this kind of posts from you a lot, and they are bad for my blood pressure. It’s like saying farmaceutical companies like to make people sick so they can sell more medication and make more profit.
shrug depends on the server, I guess. Orr is very much alive on my server (and since most players are chatting in map chat and I’ve seen very few rangers with bears, I don’t think they’re bots), and in every zone I happen to be playing, I can find players to play and/or chat with.
Gonna chain my characters to Desolation forever.
I don’t blame Anet, I blame the players who want an easy way out and support the botters by buying from them. As long as you have player-player trading, you will have bots.
This does not mean Anet can just lay back and do nothing, but I do not believe they are doing that. botters are the needle in every game developers eye. Why? Because they ruin their creation. Could Anet do more? Maybe. I don’t know what they’re doing right now. Could they communicate more about what they’re doing? Yes.
But bots don’t exist because of Anet. Bots exist because of player greed. The greed to want that shiny pixely bauble NAO, instead of over a year.
In every game gold sellers sell popular, expensive items. Doesnt surprise me.
But I would just report them for “selling gold” or “botting” ingame.
In my opinion, exploring is the most fun part of PvE in GW2. If you like to get yourself distracted getting from point A to point B, you will definately like the game. Crafting is more fun in GW2, but there is no fishing. There are other minigames though like keg brawling, with more they’re going to add along the way.
PvP is more balanced than WoWs, even though it’s not a perfect balance (yet? – but hey, the game’s only 3 months old). No gear progression means that gear isn’t as large a factor to win as in WoW, and everyone is raised to level 80. It still makes a difference, but it’s entirely possible for a talented level 1 to beat the crap out of a level 80.
The lore in GW2 is rich, but you have to look for it. You won’t get it by simply wandering the world mindlessy doing quests, ignoring the NPCs. The most lore you’ll find when you go out of your way to talk to NPCs, read tombstones and books and stop to listen to NPC conversations.
I think it’s fun, my server is really sociable and active, and since there have been 1 large content update (and one more on the way in a few days, and another one in december coming), I don’t see the game dying anytime soon.
But fact is: it’s a lot different from WoW. I don’t know what you liked in WoW and what you think it’s fun or not, but it might get you some getting used to. Mainly the lack of a “gear treadmill” or “vertical progression” is something most people who are not used to the GW concept struggle with.
In the end though, it’s best to find out on your own. You have a forum account, so you own the game. Go ahead and play it and see if you like it. And remember: no sub fee, so no pressure
