And because of my “expect it, be ready, be flexible” philosophy I am not one to reroll once they nerf my class. I simply do not let it ruin the fun I’m having. Besides, it forces me to rethink my character, and letting me invent new ways of playing. And that is fun in and of itself.

Btw, this is an answer I would have given for every class in every MMO.

This is only applicable for solo play.

If you want to join a party you need to have max performance. Otherwise you’re just being a bad person and ruining fun for your teammates.

Weird that my guildies and friends haven’t complained so far :p
But then, but this is more of a personal preference, I prefer with people who are also flexible. Because like I said, you can expect nerfs. And people who are not ready for them and cannot adapt are more useless in the long run than the flexible ones.
There are often more than one way to finish something, and people who are dead set on one build often don’t see them. Tends to make boring runs if you do the same thing over and over and over again.

Thief. I am still very happy with it. I do not worry about nerfs. In every MMO, eventually somewhere along the line my favorite class – whatever it may be – IS going to get nerfed somehow. Expect it, be ready, and be flexible and it won’t bother you as much. Same with buffs by the way.

But what if you spent all this money on gear and trinkets, then that specific build gets nerfed. Are you going to buy new gear again? Assuming you don’t have much time to play and get on about 2-6 hours per day[/quote]

I don’t pick my armor for one specific build – I build my armor in a neutral way that lets me use it with different builds.
Besides, in this game you don’t really need to spend a lot of time and money to get yourself some armor.

Are you worried about any current nerfs that have been implemented? Do you like the buffs you have received? Do you feel like re-rolling another toon because of anything that has/hasn’t happened? Please do state what profession you run

[whine]Only if they give “old DD’s” the price difference with the normal version in gems. If I had known I could have bought a DD for the price of the normal version, I wouldn’t have done it![/whine]

Come on, OP. Every product you buy has the risk of getting a discount X time after you buy it. Doesnt matter if it’s a game or washing machine. I recently bought Dishonored at a 50% discount via a steam sale – that game is only a few months old too. Should the “old” buyers get their money back too? Should there never be any discounts, ever?

If it bothers you that much, simply wait a few weeks/months before you buy something so you can profit from the discounts.

I get the feeling (but correct me if I am wrong) that you run into a lot of hackers/exploiters :P

CoD had similar exploits though (like being able to get under the floor) and that was a console game that got fixed. So when I am sure these things will get fixed soon enough!

Exactly lol, it got fixed, and I’m sure within a reasonable time frame, many games that I play have had hacking and exploiting issues it’s just what happens now a days. The fact that Anet can’t do anything to stop it is the problem.

Holy hells, do we play the same CoD? Some days I cannot find a decent game without the wallhackers and the auto-aimers. It’s quite the opposite of a hack free game.

100 people is nothing. Opening week, you can’t even get out of overflow to do shadow behemoth.

On opening week, every single player was in the same zone. Now the population has spread out more. Doesnt mean the game is dying, just means that there are no longer 1000 people stuffed in the same square meter.

Dear God Zoid, do you have any idea how much of a whiny, entitled little… “child” you sound like? “Oh, I got disconnected, give me a pre-cursor! Wah wah wah! It’s not fair! Why were there so many people online for this one time event in the same areas?” Seriously! I get that you feel annoyed about the disconnect before you finished, I would have too. But whining that you deserve a pre-cursor for not even technically finishing? I am one of the lucky ones, I’ll admit it, but In my entire instance only two other people seemed to get pre-cursors, and I was stacked to the brim on magic find. I know that if it had happened to me I would be miffed, but I’d also just be thankful that ANet said “Yeah, that wasn’t fair, give us a bit and we’ll send the box in the mail.” And if you were wanting one so you didn’t have to buy it, atleast the prices came down after the event to make it more manageable. I’m not even sure that it was just because it was a 1 time event boss, they’ve always said that they can be found in high level area chest, and it is a level 80 area and that was a rather rare chest, it’s just that there were so many people getting to it (most probably doped up on magic find like myself). If you don’t want the chest, shut up and give it to someone who couldn’t even make it to the event because of work or other commitments, we don’t want or need whiny, self-entitled children here.

I didn’t read your wall of whinetext.

Then allow me to summarize:

Quit whining like a 5 year old.

Depends on the server I guess. Never had any complaints about Desolation (EU), and that is the main reason I will never ever transfer from there, even if it may cost me my 100% map completion.

*Edit: it also depends on your expectations. A few days ago, I was leveling an alt with my boyfriend, and he complained that there were so few people in the (level 20-30) zone. “Only 4 per DE, and only one in this jumping puzzle”. I was a bit flabbergasted tbh, I think 4 others in a DE is just perfect to keep it a challenge while still socializing.

shrug I bought my extra bank space with ingame gold converted to gems. And the armor skins in the shop aren’t that great. But still, all those things you mentioned are not needed to play. They are cosmetic at best, plus all of it can be bought with ingame gold.
Unlike for example AoC at the moment, where you cannot play certain classes unless you pay a sub fee, or SWTOR where you cannot finish certain quests unless you pay for it.

I can see how this works for Call of Duty for example. But for an MMO, that is supposed to be long-term enjoyment, this would be shooting themselves in the foot. No one would ever buy something from them again. Ever.

I honestly think Anet isnt stupid enough to choose a course like that. Which brings me to my second question: why do you think anet would choose a course like this?

That’s the point of a Churn and Burn policy Tosha. It focuses on raw profit over a shorter time scale.

OP is wrong, for one reason. Someone may not play the game anymore, but has lifelong forum access. I’ve noticed that most disgruntled doomyellers do not play the game anymore. On a forum of a sub based game, these players wouldnt have a forum account anymore, and thus unable to reply. Here, quite a few of them keep spamming doom and gloom, even though they’ve stopped playing.

So imo you can’t really count them in the player group.

Now you will for sure show us a statistical evidence more significant of the situation you are trying to disprove right?

Sure. I’ll show you the same amount of statistical data the rest of the replyers and the OP did in this very constructive discussion.

Have you corrected for the positive posts in that thread and the number of “give us vertical progression” topics before the LS update? And do you know how many players that originally quit the game, came back after said expansion?

Point is: this thread is only speculation. you cannot know if the forum users are the majority or the minority. My point was not if it’s a majority or minority, but that it is not an accurate (random) population.

I did not read your full post, and I skimmed the replies (most of them were the same dead-horse-kicking about ascended anyway), but I want to reply about the forum part.

You are completely right, these forums are terrible. I sent an email to forums@arena.net to complain about my first forumban, and I got a reply 20 days later. I have not yet recieved an answer on my second mail a week later.

In respons, I have sent them a 2-pages-long reply about everything that is wrong with the managment on this forum and ways to improve it. But I suspect that mail will be instantly trashed like this post is going to be, and just like a previous posts I made about this subject has been. Or that it takes them another 20-40 days to reply, and that the reply will be “thank you for your feedback, I will now proceed to close this thread”.

Take one piece of advice: either learn to manage your forums well, or close them. And based on the current state of affairs, I strongly suggest doing the second.

Why would you buy a MMO game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I buy an MMO for the same reason I buy board games – to have some fun with friends. The MMO having the great advantage that I can make some new friends along the way.

But as soon as it starts taking over my life, I quit. I don’t need an addiction – any addiction – in my life.

that being said, I already have a fulltime job RL and hopefully soon a child on the way, and I do not need a virtual job as well. So as soon as a game becomes anything like work, I’ll quit as well.
