Would you go to London and start shouting at every person you heard not speaking English??
(to each other, obviously if they needed to communicate to a shop assistant they would have to speak English -edit)No you wouldn’t.
If they were speaking to me, yes, I would point out they would have to speak english to me.
Speaking in map chat isn’t like standing in a large crowd quitely talking to a friend next to you. It’s more like standing on a soap box shouting your message to the entire crowd. If you do that in a language only 2% of the crowd can understand, you are sure to get some reactions from the other 98%.
Guild advertisements, fine. I’m not bothered by them, unless they spam too much, but that is annoying in any language.
I do mind entire conversations in another language. Team up and use partychat, or whisper each other.
And @Melkathi – that has nothing to do with my supposed “lack of education” – i can speak and/or read 4 languages. It has to do with common courtesy. When speaking to a group of strangers, it is simply not polite to use a language only 2% of the group can understand. And yes, I define map chat as a way to speak TO a group of strangers, just like standing on a soap box and speaking in public.
I personally would like to see them implement more titles. Yes, they are a grind to get but that’s what a lot of GW1 players worked for. Especially the titles that had skills attached to them (for example the Lightbringer titles). The higher your title, the stronger the skill.
No. no no no, oh dear gods no.
Titles, fine – for those that want them. But do NOT link them to skills anymore. It was ridiculous that you could only join a party if you had skill A on level B. It does not promote teamplay and it should never have been implemented.

You think you can do better when you cannot even be bothered to write a decent OP?
Pot, meet kettle.
If you could add/remove 3 things in game, what it would it be and why ?

1. Add GvG – I really miss that
2. Remove the bots ‘n bugs
3. Add MOAR explorable area’s (even though I’m only at 47% map completion, I can’t wait for the expansions to be able to explore more)
Just do the DE’s around the heart quest if you dont like ‘em. You’ll complete the heart by doing the DE without even having to look at the requirements.
Banning someone because you don’t like their topic of conversation? not a chance.
I wonder… what defines a “hardcore gamer”? Is it the urge to have better stats/gear? The amount of playing? You want challenges (dungeons not challenging enough? Orr’s too easy?) What is your goal in any MMO? what makes an MMO fun?
Here is a list with some (expected, not official!) fixes and changes:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dev-Tracker-Compilation-A-list-of-upcoming-fixes-and-changes/first#post231719
Good suggestion aside, this is the most fun I’ve had reading a 3-posts-long OP. applauds
Cooking in Lions arch… shudders
I don’t even mind the “Seize the moment” line itself, but the way that NPC says it, grates on my nerves. Terribly whiney. I usually just turn my sounds off completely to ignore the little kitten.
Level 71 Sylvary Thief 8/10 (will go to 9/10 when they fix the Orr bugs and I’ll never have a 10/10, because there will always be points for improvement That is not GW2 specific btw, I never give anything a 10/10)
When I was younger (10 years ago), I could affort to spend hours and hours each day playing. Now I’m 26. Started a career, got meself a boyfriend and a nice little house and we’re planning to have kids in a year or two.
Icannot afford to put over 3 hours in a computer game anymore My priorities have shifted. That does not mean I do not enjoy gaming anymore. Which is why I am very, very glad there’s a game for casual players like me. I do not need to spend hours and hours in grind for gear to still kick somekitten in PvP. I can jump in and play whenever I want. No content is denied to me because I have a personal life to manage outside of the game.
I have grown up since I first started gaming, and it’s nice to see my favorite franchise has grown up with me. Today’s casual gamers are yesterdays hardcore gamers. And to all you self-acclaimed hardcore people: I’ll talk to you in 10 years when you are trying to juggle a job, a family and a game
The nick “Tosha” I’ve had since diablo2 – my very first gaming addiction. In GW1 you needed a last name, and since I tend to daydream way to much, my ranger was called Tosha Daydreamer. I kept the name for GW2, only now Tosha Daydreamer is a sylvari thief. And I think the name fits the race, even though Sylvari do not use last names in general.
Whenever I create a new character, I always use “Daydreamer” as last name. So basically I can use any name I wish, since most people do not use last names Only exception being my Charr Warrior – gave him Dreamslayer as last name. Daydreamer wasn’t agressive enough :p
Hundreds of skills? Sure, but you can only use those 20 to be allowed to play with the so-called big boys? Also not revolutionary.
You sir were not very good at GW1 or didn’t play it. There is no other explanation for what you have just said. The vast majority of skills in GW1 were useful in the right build.
Anet talked big about revolution and GW2 is anything but. It’s pure theme park but with less rides.
I did play GW1. Mostly GvG and HoH. And in those areas, it was “this build or the highway.” And for PvE… I cannot remember all the times I was refused in a PUG because I did not have title X on level Y (Eye of the North and Nightfall) or I did not want to play build Z with those specific skills. And I remember all the 55 HP monks before they got nerfed. Just a few examples. So much for build diversity. Sure, you could fool around – on your own. But as soon as you joined other players, you had to use cookie cutters only.
And you did not answer my question about what exactly would have made the game “revolutionary” in your eyes.
1. I like the rich world and lore. I like exploring for no other reason than “let’s go see what’s over HERE”. I like it that NPC often have very interesting tales to tell. I like vista’s and jumping puzzles. I like being able to compete in PvP despite me not having Da Uber Pwn Gear. And, despite everything, I love the community.
2. I don’t like the fact that I do not dare to set foot in Orr yet. My char is level 70 and at Orrs doorstep, but reading the forum, I’ve decided to put walking into Orr on hold until I see a large patch update for the area. Doesn’t make me bored – there is still plenty left to do – but I hate having an area I can’t poke my nose into just yet.
I wonder OP… what did you expect to be “revolutionary”? What does the game lack for you to make it addicting?
Gear rewards? If that is what makes a game addicting to you, it would also not be revolutionary – just play one of the many other MMOs out there.
Hundreds of skills? Sure, but you can only use those 20 to be allowed to play with the so-called big boys? Also not revolutionary.
So… what exactly is it you are missing that would make the game “revolutionary” in your eyes?
Thank you Anet After I quit GW1 2 years ago, I could not find another game to hold my attention for very long. But even now my personal life has changed so much over the last few years (getting a job, moving away, preparing for children), I can still see myself making time to play this game even two years from now. And that is rare when you’re trying to juggle a fulltime RL with some good ol’ fashioned fun.
So thanks for that.
Thanks for working hard – I know you guys do. My tickets are always answered quickly, and even though you do not always have an immediate fix, I trust you to fix it eventually – and there are plenty of things to keep myself busy until you do.
Too bad I didn’t saw the Reddit Cupcake Initiative until it was over, else I would have donated a cupcake or 100
Keep up the fantastic work and thanks a lot!
No, that timer is playtime only. So if you take a booster and/or food 5 minutes before you log off, you’ll have 25 min left next time you log in.
Bugs first, new content second.
Don’t know how much cloth is on the TP these days, but you could try farming the level 70/80 areas for orichalcum for example, then sell that on the TP and buy your cloth with the money you make.
Consider this: 10 level 80 burning everything in the path of the newly made level 10’s because the level 80’s want to farm, leaving the level 10’s with a map full of corpses and no way to kill some themselves.
*edit: I should type faster :p
2 females (sylvari (main) and norn) and one male (charr). I don’t really have a policy on gender – I just make whatever looks/fits best. For example: I cant make myself to make a female warrior. The armors are way too ugly. But a yummy male warrior on the other hand… Male mesmers however are terrible (or they used to be in GW1 – havent tried them yet in gw2), so I’m probably going for female if I ever decide to play that class.
So basically a mass majority of you are saying to not reward players for being skilled and knowing what to do to beat a dungeon quicker than “expected” and to punish them?
I assume most of you are incapable of speed running a dungeon efficiently so you’re happy that Anet is punishing everyone else for being able too.
Good job.
Really? The “you’re just jealous” argument? I thought that was only used by blonde cheerleaders in teenage movies, since they are most of the times too dumb to come up with actual smart comments.
Intelligent or not it’s actually true so it’s relevant.
/facepalm
And now the “you are too!” argument to top it? That’s it, I’m going to leave you with the rest of the trolls here and start looking for some decent discussions again. You have fun making a fool of yourself ^^ throws a cookie
Right now, there isnt. Dont know if they are working on it though. Don’t think it a priority for Anet at the moment.
Barracudas and Centaurs. I want to eradicate them all. Whipe them off the face of the planet. Destroy them so completely that even their DNA cannot be found.
So discard everyone else and listen to you. I see.
There are a lot of good points made in some of these threads. To lump them all as whiners is silly. This game still needs some refinement. If you can’t agree with that well I guess you see the world through rose colored glasses.
There is a huge difference between ‘whining’ and constructive criticism. It’s the difference between “omagod if you do not reverse this imma quit!!!1!” and “here are some suggestions to make it better”.
I don’t mind the second and will even participate in those discussions. The first is just childish and does not deserve any serious attention. They just need a spanking or two.
Maybe put this in the Suggestions forum instead
Congrats OP for making this a thread for constructive criticism instead of the whiny topics that infest this forum (and thanks for that ^^)
User was infracted for this post.
It’s really pathetic how expressing a dissenting opinion in this game turns into a PR nightmare of disrespect by ANet representatives. They have quickly and completely demolished my love for this game because I no longer trust them with it. I don’t need liabilities in my life; I’ve had enough pain in it and I’m only recently getting over it.
When one acts like a child, one will be treated like one. And that means the occasional spanking. And I know, I know, spanking is considered to be bad according to those TV supernannies, but it works when applied correctly.
Sshht, you’ll spook away the kittens ^^
True , true enough. They certainly do amuse me.Getting another dew to drink while i watch. You should read the other thread i posted in. The lost a customer and so on thread. Funny as hell.
hahaha, yeh, I’m watching that one too. F5ing every 10 minutes and chuckling about the new posts. Honestly, these forums are not a good representation of the community. It is, however, a very good representation of thekitten off, self entitled, prepuberal part of the community though ^^
Pfff. Using curse words is not a fun way to start a fight. Sure, you could say “kittenykitten go kitten yourself”, but it’s much more fun to say “Excuse me kind sir, has your intelligence always been the same as that of a beheaded monkey?”
Sshht, you’ll spook away the kittens ^^
The difference between this forum and, for example, the GW2guru forum is huge. After yesterdays patch went live and this forum literally exploded, I took a look there to see how people reacted to the patch. In here it’s “omg you insert a whole bunch of kittens here at Anet, reverse it NAO”. Over there it was “finally, something has been done about that annoying farm.” I guess I’ll just stay here to feed on the misery of the many trolls, and move to a different forum for actual constructive discussions :’)
it all comes down to: do you think the prettyness of the dungeon armor and legendary weapons justify grinding to you? If yes, then go grind. If no, find something else. For me personally, I want a legendary weapon, but I’ve set that as Long Long Term goal. As in: I’m just going to keep playing and eventually I’ll have the money without having to grind anything. I’ll expect to have one in a year, maybe two. Same with dungeon armor. I want one, and sometimes I’ll do a dungeon run with my guildies, but I’m not rushing. Maybe a few runs a week or so. I’ll expect to have my first dungeon set in a year. In the meantime, I’m going to do other stuff. Collect minipets using only ingame gold. 100% map completion. Mastering WvW. Start an alt. Help guildies with their goals. I don’t expect to be bored anytime soon, but I’m not rushing anything either.
The reason WoW never appealed to me was because the journey to max level was incredibly boring. People said to me “but it gets better after that!!”, but when I really looked into it, I did not see any fun in endgame content either. Leveling up was grinding mobs to get XP, endgame was grinding mobs to get gear. It bored me to tears after level 20.
I’m personally convinced that people only continued playing because they payed a monthly subscription and “their money would go to waste because they didnt play”. Because honestly – why play thekittenthing? Still, there must have been something right about WoW endgame content, because apparently it’s still popular. But if any other game would give you hours and hours of tedious grind only to find more annoying grind at the end, would you buy it?
I have played GW2 for about 100 hours now, and I’m level 70. I know I’ll reach level 80 in about 10-20 more hours of playing, but after that, I’m still not finished with the game. I still need to to the dungeons (yes, even the first one, because my guildies level way, waaay much slower than me and I don’t want to play with PUGs), I want to master WvW, I want to have 100% map completion, I have done only one jumping puzzle, I haven’t maxed out my cooking yet… Oh yeah, I do want a legendary somewhere in the future, but I’m not going to actively work toward that yet. Instead, I want to collect all minipets available in the game using only ingame gold.
So, with my little to-do list I can imagine myself playing for many, MANY more hours after reaching level 80. Endgame really is what you want it to be. But if you are looking for the “classic” WoW endgame – you will probably be disappointed. But for me, that actually is a huge blessing.
Correction: you do not need to grind for the stats. Dungeon gear is cosmetic only.
Yes, it’s about cost vs reward. Just like in RL you have to ask yourself: is skipping a 5 minute trip walking to the supermarket worth the X dollar I have to spend on gas to go by car?
It’s a video game not a real life, as almost everyone is saying to me – I’m supoused to have fun it.
Ingame or in real life: you can only spend money once. In ANY game. You decide what is worth more: bunnyhopping, converting to gems, buying armor or whatever it is that floats your boat.
But you are wasting it on something that is obviously not worth it to you, and now you are complaining that you don’t have anything left? It’s like the lazy fat dude on the couch who uses his car to ride the single mile to the supermarket because he cannot be bothered to walk, and then complaining about the gas prizes. Don’t want to waste your money? Take a walk. Want to be lazy? Okay, then pay up.
In other games you have to buy mounts to get around, and most of the time, those are not cheap either.
I stand by my statement of “dungeons are not meant to be easy goldfarms”.
They need to find the balance between challenge and reward, but as soon as a path becomes farmable like CoF was, they did something wrong.
Putting something in game only for purpouse of “use in case of emergency” is called a bad design, nothing more.
ummm…? The waypoints are for normal use, but not for constant use, also you need to use them wisely. You shouldnt be takeing a waypoint from metrica to ascalon, instead you should be going to the nearest city and useing the gates to get closer to your destination, you can probably save around 80% of your munnies anytime you travel a long distance this way.
If you cant figure out how to use the waypoints when appropriate then this game isnt for you, and you shouldnt be blameing the games designers, perhaps you should try nickjr.com my toddler has a blast on there…
Since waypoints are the only fast way to travel (and meetup with party members, yes this isn’t single player game I play with friends and meet up at certain WP) they shouldnt be taking half of my income. I shouldn’t be forced to plan how I use them so I won’t waste every bit of silver I have. If I want to meet up with guild members, I use waypoint and that’s it. Now it’s like – no, you come to me, I’m not gonna waste 4s on this"
I’m sorry, but this is kind of dumb.

Honestly, I have not had a cash problem yet – even converted a few gold into gems. But I’m not bunnyhopping waypoint to waypoint everytime I have to walk more than 10 steps to get to my destination.
I’ve bought 2 packs of minipets with ingame gold. You don’t need to pay for them with hard-earned RL cash Besides, some of them can already be bought on the trading post.
@zach ah, I see they’ve removed it. Yeh, I agree that is overkill. Just locking it and letting it get snowed under by the hundreds of other topics about the subject would have been better. When I wrote this, I thought it was only locked.
My post wasnt about this patch, but the usefullness of a petition on a forum. Which is zero. I used this patch as an example to why petitions are useless, not to start yet another discussion about the patch itself.
The problem with petitions is that you only reach one part of the communty. “Sign this petition against A” will only attract people who are against A, while maybe there is option B and C as well. In this case, it was asking for a complete rollback. While I agree that there should be a balance between reward and effort, I do not agree with a full rollback, because I do feel that being able to farm a dungeon was not the way it was meant to be.
So you won’t see my name on that petition. Other solutions get ignored. Players with other opinions get ignored. And by doing a petition, players may (wrongly) feel that they will get their way, if they only get enough signatures.
That is why petitions are forbidden on any game forum – not just this one. It has nothing to do with censorship. You are not forbidden to voice your opinion. But creating a petition gives skewed expectations that cannot be fulfilled, and is therefore useless.
That may be, but locking/deleting a post should be the last resort for any kind of moderator and should not be taken lightly as the backlash can and usually does cost you something in the end.
True, but in this case, there are tons of threads about the subject. I suspect there will be a lot of merging and locking done in the next few hours.
Petition threads are not discussion threads and pretty useless for the reasons I stated above. How would you handle it without locking? Let 100 people only say /sign? That is not discussion or constructive criticism, that is spam.
I consider myself (one character lvl 70) to be in the middle. I never lack money for mundane things like waypoints, and I’ve even been able to buy myself two minipet packs with gold I converted into gems (because I could). So I’m not complaining.

No. This accomplished nothing but an inflated economy.
@Gray: It’s true that you do not NEED to grind to excel in the game. Because you do not depend on grind to get the best stats. You do have to grind if you want better looking stuff, but that is COSMETIC ONLY. That is the difference that they advertised with.
