Snow owl would’ve made a nice gift for this price but of course it’s the type of item that can’t be gifted. :/

Reading the FAQ…

Not being able to go to Lion’s Arch (as I understand) right away if one wants seems brutal.

I’m also surprised that gem purchase doesn’t give core functionality. The least amount GW2 cost during sale was 10 euros/dollars which is the same that gems are. I don’t think that a middle tier like that would hurt?

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

I don’t think this new one is going to be tolerable in any way.

Says the guy who didn’t actually read or understand it. Here’s a summary:

Tolerable to me means the original system or something equally accessible.

In a way I’m skipping the current system in my mind for the most part as I have never used it to unlock a trait, the most I have to do with it is when I rage that it even exists. As it stopped me for making new characters. Or for a part, playing, although traits weren’t completely alone in that.

And nope, still not. Well, either understand, or read. I can’t find the interest. My main take from the articles, what little I got, was that the upcoming system is something that I don’t feel like dealing with, and I did get that it will nuke what remains of the Good Old Days = the traits of characters created before that April update last year as the system will be completely different.

I also vaguely scanned some signs of grind with the points…? I’m again comparing to original trait system and considering the effort, not the current, or for example masteries which I haven’t had any interest to look into and truly don’t understand at all. I didn’t feel like bothering with those since I know for sure those are locked behind the expansion which I will not get.
Most likely I will only look into details when I run into them in different context that’s more of interest if that ever happens. Otherwise it’s in game if I look at them. All I know is that I don’t mean to do anything to gain or use any of those points, I hate that kind of stuff.
I can’t really find it in me to dig details for any feedback either.
What this does is stop me ranting about the current system but it’s not a direction I like at all. And I did just give up.

And maybe in a year or two they will change all the game systems again. /sigh

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

I kind of very idly read that since I don’t get half of it and have little interest… but I really hate doing “unlock quests” and things that resemble those.
I haven’t done skill challenges or even hearts for a long, long time if I could avoid it, and I could. After a while I only did events for the old daily system reasons, when there were these things called options and I even actually wanted to do the events I needed sometimes, even with megaserver in place I used to be able to avoid people.
So this hero challenge looks like checklist stuff and I don’t much care for that outside of the old daily/monthly system which I genuinely enjoyed.

What the update means for traits itself I don’t really know, I got the removal of some and skill changes but other than that I… didn’t even bother… I don’t think I care?

I care to rant though, hated the last year’s trait system change the moment I learned about it. I don’t think this new one is going to be tolerable in any way. Traits used to be accessible, and that was it. No unnecessary hassle, the focus of the game somewhere else, not inside the character in form of boxes or exp bars that need to be filled.
Of course reset should’ve been free because the fee was limiting in otherwise open system which is quite absurd, and for my own reasons: outside of sales I have had no money coming in as I outright hate lot of stuff and avoid it all. I simply didn’t change my trait lines after setting them up initially unless some emergency happened (I remember a case of an update resetting traits and me fixing two characters the wrong way around at first).
It worked pretty well since in the end I don’t value combat very highly and tended to not do it all that much. I’m telling you, I did like that old daily though…
Experiments I like too and was only able to experiment with something I never tried after reset went free and then it was mostly too late. Had and have my existing five level 80 characters… who I by the way suppose will not survive this change comfortably intact since there will be no intact left.
Oh, my low level “trait” characters waiting long for a day that for few months existed somewhere in the future because of login rewards. The day that doesn’t exist now.

I do really hate this “progression” thing. I want none of it. There was that time when I enjoyed Guild Wars 2 so much and it was because things like NPE and unlock quests weren’t in the game. That experience is gone.

Love that thing. Strangely enough lot of it is because of combat/battles (heroes of course included) which is not the case… ever anywhere else too much.
I pretty much only play ritualists with spirits, avoiding directly attacking anything by myself. I’m often just watching how things are going. I like to think my heroes know what they are doing with what skills I have for them… it tends to be messy but still awesome. Or beautifully horrible.

I also love items in that game. Especially the randomly generated (if that is the correct term) weapons. And the farm for festival items.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

Been reading those Guild Wars comments. I don’t like skill collecting one bit. I’m forever stuck since I’m bored of my team and I can’t really make myself buy skills, or worse yet go capture elites.
The skill buying hit me as punishing ever since I noticed that the price from vendor starts at, I recall, 50 gold (1 gold in Guild Wars = the least possible amount of money) which is cheap, yay… only rising after every skill until it is 1 platinum (1000 gold), and… it just was a negative thing and I still can’t stand it. I did make temporary characters at one point to get monk skills without paying too much but that’s a pain. My monk heroes pretty much only have early skills available to them.
I hate “ruining my characters” by giving them too many secondary professions (meaning: ever changing it, it’s /R or /Rt… I of course never wanted to ever even touch all the professions either), and I have no interest running around capturing elites and especially don’t like looking them up. I have some ritualist elite skills, way less for ranger, I think one for elementalist and maybe two for assassin.
So that’s it for the Guild Wars nostalgia in my case. Enjoying that game somewhat for combat/team/pretty/ritualists… just not for the skill hunt aspect. :/
I wish I had noticed the discussion that I hear was going on at some point. Must’ve felt irrelevant and not danger at the time, I guess. I’m not too used to talking about things but feeling threatened like that I might’ve complained, or tried to at least. Or at least be warned somewhat of the unpleasantness that was to come like happened with many other things some which I did manage to notice and complain about. Not that it did anything other than be that warning to me I guess.

At any case, I’m still interested in hearing about the new trait system. I have a specific fear though, no matter what happens with trait system will old characters from before the april 2014 horror still keep the traits that once were meant for them? I made sure to have all characters I could think of at the time created before the change. I expect to still hate the updated system since it’s not going to be as accessible as the original with free resets anyway. I’d hate more if they lost their status.
I could use my about a year young – and the 947 days old – distant future “tomed 80s” for… JP chests I guess, if they end up being lost and mostly pointless…

Those somewhat cautiously looked forward to “tomed 80s” remind me of the future skill point limits which I also noticed discussed here and which worries me were skill points related to future traits or not. No matter what the high level content rewarding skill points is it’s not going to be something I want to have anything to do with, either because I don’t like combat/high end combat and zergs, or the general resentment I feel. Maybe JP chests will have skill point scrolls and the home instance skill point will reset daily and all will be as right in the world of Tyria as it ever can ever be anymore… /dreams

Critique the New Faces!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Traced.3495

I don’t like the male charr face that the new faces are variations of. I have a charr who will still continue to be very boring. :/
My female charr are mostly already perfect and I think the new one, maybe all of them ever, are little too cute.

Nothing too interesting with asura ones, especially since I’m not planning to change any of mine.

The second male sylvari face and the third female sylvari face are simply amazing. I might still want to wait for new hairstyles… if I don’t have 60 level up items first because I want to get all done the day when I have, but a male sylvari I have been wanting to makeover (before he’s allowed to even move) is pretty much set now with an earlier hairstyle I have been wanting to use. Ashen/Shy Violet/Irisette colors. <3

And if I ever have extra makeovers I’m redoing some female sylvari I have already redone once, going to use these new looks… Ended up really not liking what I made of them earlier. :/
I still can’t make my own Scarlet though.

I haven’t looked at norn female yet since I don’t want to move the norn I want to makeover. I think I will wait for hairstyles in this case anyway since that’s the bigger problem for me.

…I’m really lot more interested in new hairstyles, my norn wants one badly! Especially short hair options. <3
For face options my wishes were male sylvari, and are continuing to be the male charr.
And Scarlet.

Is luck going to be account bound forever?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

I wish more things would be tradeable, like the ascended materials. I consider bound things pretty horrible thing anyway. :/
I’m envying others who have the materials but I don’t like the methods so I don’t have too much. If it was cheap enough I might buy empyreal fragments for my stars sometimes. They are mostly hungry these days, watching others being forced to destroy their fragments.
…If the materials were like cinnamon or tiny snowflakes I’d love it. >:D

Currently I’m collecting a stack of fine luck for each account for a recipe but other than that I destroy it all. From now on probably thinking of all the fragments I could buy with selling that luck….

How would luck in economy do? Different than the three ascended materials, that much I get. I’m interested on effects but not a luck expert or economy follower.

The recent sale brings me here again.

I want the NPE to disappear.

Maybe the game is even cheaper in six months or so, I really want some more accounts even with the trait uncertainty but no way I want to pay that much money right now. I want the accounts more than I want to completely shun GW2 but I am still pretty stubborn.
I am under the impression that even the wardrobe is locked away and those accounts are for vanity. And outside possible home instance gathering if that is even possible anymore (no idea) my still distant future characters will not level until they can hit insta-80, year or more later.
There is no way I can tolerate playing new characters after traits and NPE situation.

Reminds me that I want a luck eater, preferably for free. WITH my 4% magic find. I hate magic find with this current system.

I did have something I want to highlight… It has to do with inventory.
-I want more filters in the inventory search somehow, if there isn’t a way already, I haven’t actually tested? (example: masterwork & level: 53-75 & torch) Perhaps more search fields?
-Rearrangeable bank tabs: drag to rearrange much like inventory bags.
-Inventory autocompact somewhere else than next to the often used options.

[SUGGESTION] One-time cultural armor purchase

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

I consider tier 1 and sometimes even tier 2 cheap enough to get the armor pieces for a character if I wanted them to wear cultural for look reasons, not caring about stats.
I haven’t actually hoarded the stuff since I have very few high level characters, they just aren’t able to wear it.

I haven’t compared the price with the cost of charges, so far I don’t have any to spend without a lot of consideration. I would check this if I started buying cultural for the reasons I would since outside of log in rewards I don’t have any other sources for charges that I like.

…And I would tm the stuff to level 1 armor anyway so that it’s not restricted to high levels.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

Some personal preferences, but I’m not liking the ideas of different tiers having different unlocks. Like first tier of traits being free, and doing tasks for the rest, any of them. I like consistency and it’s beautiful when things works nicely. :/

…and I don’t of course like doing any sort of tasks to get to things either, since I dislike so many things. The original system with even the new traits included and free trait reset would be amazing. Well, one can at least dream of things not being locked away.

Yesterday I was looking at traits for my eles and for the first time even looked at one of the new traits. I would have to beat Karka Queen if I remember right, to get it without paying. I… don’t want to touch anything that requires a group, or champion fights and above, ever.
High end battles are just something I don’t want to have anything to do with. Which reminds that these days I actually have this mental image of the whole game as zerg fest on timer. Although I’m not an expert on how things are since I never ever go near any world boss or farm locations other than by accident, I don’t even want to know about these things unless I find them by myself. Even then I have no interest in the fights, just getting out of the way. But that’s different topic. Just rambling. Personal preferences…

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

I really want to hear about the new trait system, I hope it’s soon.

But I don’t like where this progression thing is going at all, including masteries. I don’t like quests, unlock quests, or anything that resembles those too much. I enjoyed this game when I didn’t have to deal with stuff I don’t want to do.

Would you care about them the same if it was not barring Primary Progression through the content, and was only there for extras which may or may not be of interest? Such as:

Needing to have a Lore Mastery level to open up somewhere which would be on average like a Guild Puzzle?

Or needing the hang glider to reach the start of a jumping puzzle along the top of the canopy?

Or being able to kill Husks same as always, only a Combat Mastery now makes it so you can nullify the “Tough Bark” for 20s?

Or language knowledge offering more dialogue to talk with people on branches you couldn’t see before, not unlike having certain branches only available for race/class/order choices?

I don’t know enough about what mastery progression will bring, I’m afraid I don’t have too much interest and the bit that exists is mostly because of trait system stepping down as progression and mastery system taking it’s place as mentioned in that red post. I think I will need a better showing of it before I can find out what I need.

I would also need to reread the post about adventures/outposts and track down bunch of interviews which I can’t… sort of… bother. Again, I haven’t read things too closely but somewhere I got the impression that there’s some work that needs to be done to progress with the story or reach new locations. Whether it related to mastery (making it required) or some outpost related stuff, I don’t actually remember if that was even said.
Disclaimer is: I didn’t read things too carefully since I don’t have interest in general, I did get a negative impression of it though when scanning for things I might care about.

I just happen to really dislike unlock quests and I don’t really know why that is. I have the impression (again the disclaimer just above) that mastery system will involve unlock requirements somewhat like trait system now, only without the option of paying one’s way out of it.
When progression is tied to unlock quests/requirements it to me is a word to run away very very fast.
…Yeah, I kind of by default don’t like MMORPGs, just some things in those. Happened that I did like GW2 quite a bit until… things happened.

Freedom! Free the traits! Free them from these requirements! <- I have this kind of one track mind right now. :/

(I am familiar with WildStar paths and mastery system reminds me of that. But I expect that mastery system will be more involved with the game than paths which are optional flavor/boosts, all extra.)

I’m worrying since skill points from levels has been my only source. I loved town clothes.

1. Restore old functionality.
2. Add some selection box: Cover armor
3. Restore toy weapons as well, making things like birthday gun and instruments stow-able as they used to be. Town clothes hotkey to reach these along with town clothes if not set to cover armor…. This is not the clearest thing to me. But something like that.
-optional: Reconsider 1H weapon battle stance and/or the usage with fluff items… /sigh
4. Make non-consumable gem store items reclaimable , including gathering tools and permanent airship/terrace pass.
-And while at it, those 1000 gem items… make them 800 gems. It’s the proper thing to do.
5. Victory.

Optional is the key word. Completely avoidable.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traced.3495

Traced.3495

I wrote a post in another threat as a joke/hopeless dreams a while ago, but now I think it is pretty much what I would insist.

About what it would take people to make a new character, mine:

The new low level experience must completely go. In fact, now that I am greedy, utility skill slots need to all be available from level 1.
All equipment slot should have available items as well. In addition of being greedy I am also very, very vain. I have not forgotten you, beta weekend hat… Or was it shoulder armor? Well, I haven’t forgotten!

Speaking of utility skills… these can’t be locked behind tiers. And I must be able to redo them for my existing characters, I dislike having to take skills I don’t want. Or even more when the game decides one for me like seems to be the case recently.

Traits must be available as easily as they used to, or vendor price needs to be way cheaper and without use of skill points, trait reset must remain free.

And as I still will not buy character slots due to several other reasons why I am unhappy, I must be gifted some for each of my accounts. Yes, still greedy.

That is what it would take.

I don’t know about that new character progression, I’d need to see more and let it sink in.
But as I haven’t liked Arenanet’s take on character progression (there are reasons why I don’t really like MMORPGs and it’s on some level related to all this) in the past and will not magically become to like it I will not buy this expansion. The old things are still in the way.

Favorite is elementalist. It’s what I wanted to play in Guild Wars very badly but didn’t manage, somehow ended up being a ritualist instead. Found that staff ele is a beautiful thing in Guild Wars 2. I adore elemental magic because Final Fantasy games. First GW characters were necro and ranger though, ele attempts only happened when I picked the game up couple of years after buying it and not really playing very much at first.

Least favorite: Warrior. I… don’t like heavy armor. Or close range combat which is an image I get when I think about warrior even though I know about the longbow. Don’t like many 1H weapons either…
Guardian isn’t here only because I needed a heavy armor wearer for some sylvari cultural I liked, guard was better option for me than warrior.

I find the tomes awesome, I guess that can fit usefulness to it as well but that’s bit bland expression compared to awesome. One day when my twins have 60 of them I can get two more level 80 characters. At this time I’m thinking of ranger and engineer. All my (many!) characters are made before trait changes so they will be acceptable in the current game as they will be insta-leveled.
Third account will be bit behind since I used the tomes from LA to get one character to 80. When that one gets enough I’ll have yet another level 80 elementalist to go with the other three.

And then I can get yet more empyreal fragments to give to the star of gratitude which hopefully will gift me shiny stuff.

(I have several lowbie rangers since I had bunch of placeholder-ed slots and didn’t have any idea of what I wanted at the time other than a sylvari ranger. I made few of them and there’s now so many level 2 rangers, and engineers which was my placeholder class)

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m also speculating because I can’t help myself. Maybe if this current system remains, all traits could be available from multiple sources and the sources would be more consistent (this just bugs me so much, all over the place, and I’m not even going to see them, ever! But I know it’s there. Watching. Waiting.).
The vendor price could be lowered and maybe split into two tabs, one with skill points as currency, other gold.

Options, people. Options.

I will always dislike this “herding” that seems to be going on.

I preferred the old system, although without reset fees and maybe just do away with manuals as well, just hand over the goods when at right level. The old levels.
…Or just hand them over and allow use of them as long as one has the trait points. This is something I don’t know about, or really care if it breaks something, though. I don’t have much interest in combat or class balance details or other things that might be relevant to this.

I am not sure why I care, I still do. No, I have some idea… Traits were the first of extremely bad news for me. I can’t forget. /sigh

I wish they had kept the option to do Wintersday dailies and have them go towards the meta. That way I could skip the ones I disliked or have trouble with while still progressing.

If they felt that was too easy, then maybe require several days worth of Wintersday dailies for one meta point. That way people who are having trouble in one area can still get the meta while giving extra reasons for people to do those dailies.

To misquote Monty Python: The Holidays are supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue about who can do what.

Yeah, it was an unpleasant surprise to find the strict requirement and no daily. I just got the Wintersday tree. I didn’t go to the bell choir or JP which I really like since I ended up not even wanting to play the Wintersday stuff.

So may I amend: In my opinion, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the existing system.

I mean, who was really unhappy with it?

I’m jumping in for a sec for this one. I didn’t like paying for trait reset and did that very, very rarely. Just stayed with the trait lines I originally chose.

Other than that, I liked the old system.

  • Addressing an issue with bundles that prematurely unlocked utility and elite skills

This is agony… I read about this bug a while ago, I don’t know what is the case now, but it’s like… slam every door shut, lock them, throw away the keys.

I can’t stand the NPE.

As for some more feedback to the first post and seeing many of my baby rangers recently… I really would need to be able to hide the pet when at storage or just idling.

The rangers are not likely to ever level.

No one is gushing about the star item?

I got my star. I don’t have Mawdrey since I just won’t do over half of anything required, it’s unreachable. But made me think that if there could be an easier to get item and one more difficult, difference with how much ascended materials the items can eat and what the rewards are.

I’m glad about the star since empyreal fragments are the only things I can really get, from JPs. (I don’t like doing events)
I think I only have less than 10 stacks of fragments at any case.

Maybe I’ll just use all my dust for cooking. :P (Believe!)

AFAIK the game won’t let you get to the next mission until you do that quest.

I must be too awesome for the game since I beat the whole thing already.

…Nah, it did let me progress just fine. In fact I remember that an NPC tells me that I can either follow him to mission or go earn my insignia so I, having already done this part of the game with another character, jumped at the opportunity to avoid doing any stuff.
I think it’s just easy to follow the quests and miss this little detail. I’m just not fan of quests at all. :/

You had to do all of it to earn an insignia, it was a tutorial and everyone had to do it. The tutorial they give you in the beginning is very very basic. It doesn’t tell you how to use skills or builds. The insignia supplied that. But you could never skip it on any factions character.

Went to look again, the insignia quest itself which is what I mean and am remembering somewhat fondly here appears to be completely skippable. I picked up the quest but didn’t think to take screenshot of that, there’s four options (sub quests) and the game asked me to do two. All the options can be done of course.
I think the remaining options stay there with another NPC if not done right away but I only did this all maybe once and it was a while ago, I’m not sure how it worked.
In my screenshots, the second character (pictured first) never did get the insignia, the first one (pictured second) did.

As a bonus screenshot, one of those tablets that are there in Shing Jea Monastery. <3
I really like what GW does with the info in here.

Tutorials would be acceptable if they would be 100% optional and repeatable. Why force at possibly inconvenient time or restrict this useful information?

Except that part of learning the game in Factions involved getting your insignia, which was also a form of tutorial which wasn’t at all optional.

Insignia itself was tiny enough to not be really unpleasant experience to me. I don’t remember how much of that was optional, I’m thinking there were five parts and maybe two were required.

…I’m also not sure if it was required at all. I have several characters who have reached the big city but I don’t remember doing this that much…
Looking at it now actually, the instructor asks me if my ritualist (who has beaten Factions) is ready to earn her ritualist insignia.

And I’m thinking the insignia part as an inspiration.
