rabid is really good to mix in on rangers and what not. but i find it to be really unproductive as a full set on th ieves. just my experience. i would never use rabid again.

i prefer ricochet when 1 v Xing and zerging. in duels i prefer bountiful theft. it all depends on where you are at.

@phoenix yeah i get what you mean. i am a very good thief. what you see in the video never happens. what is happening is either lag or something else that i cant explain bc what im seeing in game doesNOT match what i see in the playback of the recording. on the video you see me CND after i stealth…literally right after. thats not what i saw in game. what i saw is no stealth so i CND to try get stealth. get it?

anyway i msged anet about this problem and from what i hear its due to a server skill lag not just player end. so it will be fixed from what im hearing guys. hopefully sooner the better. was in a duel with an ele tnite and i used HIS 4 or 5 secs after revealed was gone and i didnt even invis…or attack i was running….wierd.

Yeah I mean… who doesn’t want 30k AoE healing + AoE might (and other buffs) stacking to ridiculous durations + 6-8k clusterbombs + 2k+ trickshots bouncing on 3 targets (total of 6k damage each shot of autoattack).

8k clusterbombs? so ur running 10.8k hp? :P wow. ballsy lol. anyway yeah you can do 4500-5500 with clusters in a zerk build…not 8k ….or atleast not without 25 might 25 bloodlust 5% dmg buff on potion and 2 foods buffing power and vulnerability stacks etc.

yes the healing is nice but 90% of the time fields are being over cast by others and unusable. in a perfect world i would agree. in tower defense i would agree. but not in a zerg v zerg fight. dont get me wrong…cluster bomb at 1200 used to be usable. but 900 range AND slow is too risky.

and usually 1500-1600 trick shots. that is with a zerk thief running 15k hp. i mean i guess u could do 2k but not without tossing all HP away. just curious what build are u runnign for this? any videos?

By strongest, do you mean the one with most damage? If that’s the case, then this is the build that I’ve built for pure damage. I would never use this build though, unless you want to die if a warrior as much as sneezes near you. It doesn’t have any survivability, and all the utility skills are put into that one backstab…

Here’s the build

You have 60% extra damage from traits(Exposed Weakness, Dagger Training, First Strikes, Flanking Strikes), runes(Scholar), sigils(Force) and Signet of Power. You also have 20 stacks of might and Sigil of Bloodlust.

This all adds up to some crazy damage. Tested it in sPvP, and almost all are dead after the combo. What you do is you pop skills in this order:

• Basilisk Venom
• Signet of Malice
• Signet of Power
• Signet of Agility
• Signet of Shadows
• Cloak and Dagger
• Steal
• Backstab
• Heartseeker

That’s it. You use all utility skills, heal and elite for this, so if your target isn’t dead, you’ll probably die ;p

drop hidden killer for executioner.
drop sundering strikes for venomous strength
changing side strike is optional.
sigil of night if applicable.

(need 25 stacks of bloodlust)

and also use curry food and quality stones for more power.

correct order of skills : BV SOM SOA SOS AS CND STEAL BS HS

and thats max dmg.

The reason I didn’t choose executioner is because you only have 62% critical chance. Hidden killer ensures that the most important attack crits – every time, which is way more important IMO. Most people would be dead after the first hearseeker with normal critical damage, therefore I didn’t find the need for executioner. This build is all about landing that backstab and making sure it crits.

Completely forgot about venomous strength (really dumb of me), but completely agree on using it.

I would keep side strike and maybe do the shadow trap and swap sigil of agility with it. Would give me 25 stacks of might and fury. If you do that then you could go with executioner instead since your critical chance will be 82%. The good thing about this is that you can use steal after CnD to gain initiative again ^^ but then again, the initial burst would be lower..

yes you will AVERAGE more with hidden killer …i agree. however…. with fury im at 82% or whatever…..id rather have the extra 20% dmg. you cant be max dmg without having the ability to produce the max dmg…..even if it is slightly lower % probability. but for dueling reasons or w.e. u do…yeah Hidden killer is arguably a better choice. but i notice with this build i get them low on hp fast so i want that extra 20% for HS>

Also ive never lost to a sword player …actually thats a lie i lost to trigger once out of 8 duels on his sword build. when i played s/d or d/p against his sword it was like 50 50 ish. high hp isnt a big deal but condi removal def is. ok here is what u r facing.

usually a tick is doing 128 dmg per sec per stack on a decent condi thief. high end is 155 low end is usually 110.

sooooooooooo…..at 128 dmg per stack per sec and lets say hes average 8 stacks on you which is being conservative…(high end average is 11 ish low end is 5 ish) this means you are taking 1024 dmg per second REGARDLESS of armor. this means that a thief has to maintain this for probably around 11-12 seconds for a kill. if no other dmg was being done it would be 20 seconds. sneak attack is 1k – 1.5k depending and then auto attack is 350-450 if i rmember right sometimes higher if an occaisonal crit. count on 3 x sneak attacks per 20 seconds MINIMUM and about 6-8 auto attacks and about 2 CND’s for about 1500 each. so adding these up gets us to 10350 direct dmg per 20 secs. so you are looking at roughly 30,830 dmg…… CONDI REMOVAL is the key. block CNDs …cause blinds…..also CCs are without saying.

hope this helps…..just my perspective of what i hate to see as a bleed thief.

as a P/D player i have to say the worst thing to deal with is blinds…..blinds and aegis/blocks. these are incredibly tough to get around as p/d isnt a high init gaining build. if u can make a p/d miss 2 CNDs you just took the lead in the duel. he now has to use his utilities for stealth and play perfect there after or he will be in huge trouble and a sitting duck. see if u can dodge or block/blind those CNDs…… you have to TIME it though bc if u do it too early he will use auto attack to drop blind. hope this helps.

I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but that little video was everything but well played. You clicked your skills, you didn’t kite them at all, just stood there. You hardly evaded any attack and you mistimed your C&D twice.

This brings me to my next point: Where in your vid does it show the bug? The first immune you get is after you throw the gunk and try to stealth about 1.5 seconds after it, the second time you get immune is when you use C&D when you still have revealed on as well.

I haven’t had this bug happen to me once, only that since the patch I have noticed when I throw the skill the you steal from an engineer, it now has damage pulses which reveal you.

The bug might be there, but this vid doesn’t show it. And maybe you should not think so high of yourself.

Edit: I just saw it again, and the second immune is even worse than I thought: You use C&D just after you used the throw hairs skill…

this is not l2p issue, i only use thief fact is it is only toon i have, i will have my nuts cut off and delete 3 my legendaries if this is l2p but its not. ive been ambushing, fighting, roaming duel and zerging and it is the first time it really happened in my 4 months of playing. even fails on a simple mobs.

Its not a stealthnerf, its more like an annoying bug. If you have air/flame sigils, and your Cloak n Dagger hits a crit, triggering the sigil, the damage from the sigil will cause you being revealed.
Its like trying to trigger stealth with a smoke field ?big ol bomb. For some reason the aoe dmg from that bomb is separated into two so it stealths and reveals you instantly

I was playing in hot join last night and I did notice the “instant revealed” when I used CnD. Not sure what’s the deal but perhaps it’s my dancing daggers still bouncing around when I went in stealth. Not really sure.

I’ve seen the bug where I’m still visible (looks like it’s only I who can see myself) but the stealth buff is up, so I guess it’s just a visual bug that I can see? :S

I’ve noticed a lot of pre-cast delay in my weapon skills for my thief in general since the last major patch.
It seems we get glitchier every patch.

no its either a game lag issue or a stealth issue….i am not walking out of friendly refuges or anything like that. im talking str8 up hittingwith CND and it not invising me or buff stealth showing up. somtimes i hit CND and go right to reveal without even using another skill.
I had that happen with Shadow Refuge actually.
I sat in it for full duration, the refuge disappeared, I took one step and got revealed debuff.

This might explain the problem. Solution? Anet should make sure stealth is applied after all CnD weapon and sigil damage.

I’m glad I’m not the only one with this problem. been noticing this alot too where cloak and dagger’s arent landing because of skill lag and when it hits I’ll be stealthed then immediately revealed. also theres been about a 2-3 second delay using sneak shot where I hit this skill and it doesnt fire until Im revealed..so then obviously it isnt even sneak shot anymore. I dont play on the best gaming set up but I have a decent system, this skill lag/revealed bug has only started in the last week.
I really think something is messed up on arenanets end, other players/classes have been saying they’re experiencing the same kind of problems with their character. Last night in world verses world myself and 5 different players on different ends of the map all got the same lag spike, we froze in place for a good 5-10 seconds

This has been happening to me too, I’m not sure if it’s a bug or caused by network lag but randomly if I try to stealth (through whatever means, hide in shadows, SR and so on), I’ll instantly be revealed for absolutely no reason. I don’t use auto-attack, it’s turned off for all of my weapon sets. I don’t understand whats going on. Combat log indicates I’ve attacked nothing either. A bit irritating. :\

you have no analytical skills. i have had dozens of people….in game/ in forums / on bug page say the same thing is happening. its obviously not L2p issue. anyone who has logged as many hours would have to be atleast above par when it comes to such

so i hear a lot of suggestions about weapons but NONE of these have been ranged. what do u guys think about ranged weapons?

throwing daggers: (each hand)

1)ACE SHOT: Automatic crit. 33% more dmg if target is not moving. (auto attack at the same speed as pistol wh ich is kinda slow :P)
2)SERRATED BLADES: 3 daggers thrown one after another causing 2 stacks of bleeding for 3 seconds and 2 seconds of crippling each. (4 init at sneak attack speed)
3)EYE & TOE: Dual attack that blinds for for 5 seconds and immobilizes for 1 second while you dodge roll back for a 1/2 second evade.(4 init at extreme speed like other dual skills)
4)RIGGED BLADES: Throw 1 dagger and bounces between up to 3 foes and dazes them for 1 second if they are using a heal skill. If this dagger hits 3 DIFFERENT foes they are each immobilized for 1 second each. (5 init @ dancing dagger speed)
5)TWISTED FANG: strike foe for high dmg and invis if you are at least 400 range or more away. Causes 1.5 seconds of immobilization if foe was using a skill. (6 init at the speed of dancing dagger which is medium speed)

Stealth attack:

1) BLACK LOTUS BLADE: Throw a blade with a wire attached at foe and pulls you towards them as you finish with a critical backstab (only 100%…not double) that causes 1 of the following: Stun, Daze, Immob, or knockdown for .5 seconds.

figure it has conditions…lil power….but most of all the famous 1 v 1 control.

i find eles tough bc they are the only class that can literally spam skills nonstop without ever having to take a break. but i do find them beatable. they are like thieves in a way….when they get low on life they run away with mist and its super speed/invuln and wait for water attunment for that back to 90% hp heals :P. but all is fair in war so no hate. got plenty of vids beating eles d/d and s/d. hope ur good too tho. much respect

btw i said MOST of t1 players cant 1v1 for their life. and as i said many on my server has said that…but i also notice theres not as many roamers…..you cant enter any map without having to run into a SOR / BG zerg (which is who im fighting now … im on dragonbrand) . So running into that many zergs makes it tough to really have many small skirmishes which makes it tough to have a higher number of good duelers. they are more zerg mentality. i think that also flows over into spvp alot too bc nobody goes there to play strategic and win. its all zerging and sharing glory for kills now. getting boring…hence why i just duel now and do some guild runs. wow lil off track here…srry

oh man tier 1 has HORRENDOUS 1 v 1 players in general. prolly some good ones in there but last time i fought against t1 it was JQ and BG and they were just horrible lol. many others in my server said the same. i mean taking out legends and generals in seconds…..prolly just used to zerging bc you cant get awawy from it in t1 i imagine. just a guess tho. not saying there ALL bad just most :P that week i didnt lose even a single match of 1 v 1 or 1 v 2. sickness

Threads like this aren’t good depictions of the thief community when new members come in and want to learn something other than who has the larger kitten (which really doesn’t matter, because North Americans have this problem thinking that they’ll become Internet famous or something by playing a game.)

How does D/P get away from people who know what they’re doing? Just stand on the black powder lol it’s pretty obvious and they’re screwed. Same matter with shadow refuge for that matter.

well with d/p you have a higher chance of getting away thatn d/d or s/d or s/p or sb and p/p……. but i mean yeah a zerg is goign to run over a d/p build quick fast no doubt unless they have blinding powder and SS up. p/d gets away easy bc i usually steal/CND 1500 range to the back of a zerg or a mob nearbye for invis… or i use DS then SS away then dodge roll out and CND with 7 secs of stability remaining…… or i use SR at the tip of my toes and dodge roll from one end to the other once im first invised…then roll back…then swap 50% sigil energy weapon then roll agian for a total of 3 rolls and i never get it….or i SS away then HIS then Shadow return back to a blinding powder and they are never where i am after that one. several other ways of doing this too but anyway. hope that answered what i was “intending” to say . and by getting away i mean fleeing a hopeless battle.

@softspoken….. jesus ok listen…..when we are playing and CND we HEAR it hit the oppnent and no stealth…or insta reveal…..no whether that is what is happening or not i dont know! the video comes out different than we see it on the game. its not 100% of the time but a decent enough proportion to make a complaint.

CND isnt working or its lag related . i enver have lag and many thieves are having the same problem

bobross. it will allow thieves to bring in slieght of hand in a sword build….. so yeah it does bring more builds. in the same respect more options/skills etc. it will allow a jinzo build to bring a lil acrobatics or actually make the rampagers armor a viable build.

sad but true. would cut the QQ 80% if it was like this from day 1

That was awesome. I can’t personally say I’ve ever ran in to 5 bad mesmers, all at the same time, on Tier 1. They literally all just exploded, lol.

oh man tier 1 has HORRENDOUS 1 v 1 players in general. prolly some good ones in there but last time i fought against t1 it was JQ and BG and they were just horrible lol. many others in my server said the same. i mean taking out legends and generals in seconds…..prolly just used to zerging bc you cant get awawy from it in t1 i imagine. just a guess tho. not saying there ALL bad just most :P that week i didnt lose even a single match of 1 v 1 or 1 v 2. sickness

whatever works for whoever is more depending on style and goal. when i made this post it was about being able to roam and being able to camp flip and being able to zerg it. not one but all and do them all well. :P

i just cant resist this….i have to put 10 poitns for mug bc i mean 3k or whatever heal every 21 seconds? thats basically making your heal (hide in shadows) about 82% more effective.

HIS 5500 direct heal every 30 secs….total of 11000 per minute
MUG 3k heal every 21 seconds….total of 9000 per minute

theere will be a trait increase i think…but not till they add more lvls. they said in teh beginning they would do that. i think each class would have many more possibilities if they gave us just 10 more points. more builds more options = more fun.

i hope we do get more non stealth help bc right now we cant stealth in spvp and we have to in wvw. its tough.

i dont think SB is bad ….its on of our better tools for zerging…however that said…its also not on par with anyone else aoe skills for zerging

no problem. it works same for s/d not just d/p. but alot of the time if its a 8 v 2 …s/d is dead to…thats what i mean…small groups iwll chase you …not so much big ones.

IMO it’s more of a case of other classes being able to do everything a thief can do but better in a Zerg fight.

who throws down blast finishers on a fire/water/lightning field better than a thief? With an organized group, that uses staff eles appropriately (and doesn’t have members randomly dropping light/dark fields when no-one wants them), thieves contribute a lot to group damage output through might buffs, and to group aoe heals. This can be done by other classes…but not as well.

Thieves have very solid answers to CC – the bane of zerglings, and spammable aoe. Both of these together are strong as a part of a zerg. They also have access to more dodges and teleports than anyone, which is very strong when running through aoe…which is half of what a zerg does. By being a part of the stack, you are taking up some of the damage that might be spread around to allies…and by dodging it, it gets done to no-one.

Also shortbows are great on the first pass, but when fighting against scattered opponents, pistol/pistol can be very strong (not as many lootbags). You can single out people with lower health and down them, or unload on downed opponents so they stay down, which helps your team a lot.

personally i dont know many thieves that wanna go around and be the pre buff b***tch for the zerg. yeah it helps dont get me wrong but its not very gratifying or fun for us to be the blast b**tch .

thieves do have answers for CC but in a very selfish non zerg/group helping way. its called ima go invis and take a break while these condis shake off and i heal up. i ll check you all in a bit. :P when we are invis/shadowsteping away or refuging…. its now 50 vs 49 rather than 50 v 50. or more appropriately 50 v 42 or so.

you do have a good point about dodging some dmg tho that would hit somebody else. but also half the dmg is non limiting….usually AOE dmg stuff laying on ground.

only thing a thief can do to help a zerg is venomshare and pre battle buffing. anything else a thief can do every class can do better. thief is good at 1 v 1. the class was made for that and since we are good at 1 v1 which has no part of this game…yet….we are QQed on and nerfed . yes lol NERFED for somethign that has no relevance on actually gameplay other than nubs who think its a good idea to roam in a WORLD V WORLD environment. if it was spvp (which is thief biased too but another thread topic) ….then i woudl understand but nobody in spvp complains about thieves. go invis? lol plz do ill cap this point thank you very much! escape with shadowsteps? sure thanks now its an uneven fight to the non thief advantage and helps cap nodes faster…. thief is not made for group play. which is fine i enjoy thief for what i get out of it. but i do want group buffs for thief bc they nerfed us too hard in the past.
