I highly doubt that it will be a paid expansion. That would go against everything Anet has promised, even since GW1.
I don’t recall them every promising there will never be an expansion. Just that there were no plans for one.
And even if they did they already broke most of their promises. Remember the ‘no grind’ one?
I remember the no grind one. I remember them explaining on a number of occasions precisely what that meant.
I really wish more people either remembered or paid attention.
It doesn’t mean what you think it means.
Not a fan of the new change either. I’m assuming it’s a bug, since I can’t see a reason for it otherwise.
Nope,. not going to happen.
Gratz! Even if you don’t use it, it sells for a chunk of change.
Timing is everyone OP. This post, at this moment has no real traction since it seems an expansion, or something like an expansion, is about to be announced.
I don’t call it the Komir Syndrome. I call it the Skyrim Syndrome. It annoyed the hell out of me playing that game.
In a few days, a single character could be the head of every single guild in the game. Even the Magic guild (even though he never uses magic).
The problem is people come from popular games like that to games like this and they expect to be the hero. You can’t have it every way.
Before, when we weren’t the hero, there were complaint threads that Trahearne was taking credit for everything (which he never did).
Anet makes it so that you are more center stage and people complain that we’re too center stage.
Not much Anet can do about it.
Vayne: I must respectfully disagree.
- Before, when we weren’t the hero but we did do pretty much everything with Trahearne doing almost nothing and still get the credit. That was one extreme.
- Now a whole team does all the work and WE take all the credit. That makes the character the NEW Trahearne. The other extreme.
- In between is the team does the work and the team gets the credit. There is no I in Team. That would have been a compromise that ANet could have done about it.
When did Trahearne get or take any credit at all. I’ve love a quote or two, because I’ve looked and looked.
The only thing anyone can say about Trahearne is he became the commander of the pact, but that’s not credit. It was down to circumstance. You belonged to an order and no order representative could have leadership because the other orders would see that as being somehow lesser. Trahearne was trusted by all the orders, but it’s clear even from the beginning, they respect you more than him.
There were problems for some people with this patch. But it’s rare. Probably rarer than most MMOs.
Think of this game as an MMO without traditional quests. You’ll be happier. If you see something that’s going on, feel free to get involved whether you have a quest for it or not.
If you see an attack on a city, jump in and help defend. If you see a burning farm, grab a bucket and help put out fires.
You don’t need to wait for a quest to be a hero in Guild Wars 2.
Long time Guild Wars 1 player, who didn’t like other MMOs…not that much anyway. Guild Wars 2 was just the natural choice.
Caithe’s actions are a pretty absurd thing to defend. She makes no real attempt to save the life of an innocent from this psychopath, and instead decides to murder with the approval of the murdered. Does the fact that Wynne tell’s her to do it make the act acceptable? That Wynne decides on the spot that this is the best option instead of the two of them defending themselves from the incoming attack is flat out bizarre.
Those that are defending Caithe’s decision let me ask, would you do the same? Would you really choose to kill your friend/relative instead of defending them? Is that what you think love is?
Except that’s human morality. Sylvari don’t really have the same idea about death, and more importantly, she was fulfilling Wynne’s Wilde Hunt by Winne’s request, which is important to a Sylavri.
But put this another way. Suppose she decides to protect Wynne instead and Faolin defeats her. She tortures Wynne, gets the secret and the secret gets out.
The only way to protect her race at that point, the only failsafe way, is to kill Wynne.
It’s entirely possible in Caithe’s mind that Faolin could beat her if it came to it.

Are we sure this isnt just going to be S2 sold as a bundle?
Yes. 15 characters.
I’m sure the China release took a year off the time too.
No one has to agree with the truth for it to be true.
Did you go to the EoTM beta. Many of the big WvW guilds were there. Why do you bother answering when you clearly have no idea of what went on?
Nice fallacy.
I agree, there’s no point in arguing with you, I’m wrong, you’re right, just like always on any given topic.
To see what major success EOTM was (just like Skyhammer) all I have to do is log into the game and see it for myself.
EOTM clearly is serving its purpose.
Have a nice day.I pretty much never agree with Vayne… like ever…
But in this case if you did even a small amount of research you would see he was right. Anet invited the biggest WvW guilds to participate in testing and allowed many other guilds to apply via an application process. There were several thousand players invited to play in the beta. I wasn’t one of them so I don’t know what they said in the beta forum, but it did happen and the biggest WvW guilds were involved.
The problem is no one saw it coming because they invited WvW players to get their response. They didn’t invite PvE players who turned it into a zerg fest.
And the funny bit was, the kind of people who turned it into a zerg fest wouldn’t have done it on an alpha server anyway, because they do it to farm…and farming stuff on a server when you can’t take it with you is a waste of their time.
It would only become apparent when it went live…at which point it’s hard to change because so many do like it.
No one has to agree with the truth for it to be true.

It’s impossible to argue with me, if you’re not even listening to the argument.
You say they’re coming out with an expansion without asking us. And you implied because of that we’re going to be unhappy.
My response was factual. Factually there was an EoTM alpha test. Factually many of the big WvW guilds participated in it. And factually many of those same guilds can’t stand EotM.
The only reason you can’t argue with me is because you’re not following the argument and just believing that I’m saying EotM is great for everyone.
My argument goes back to Heart of Thorns. I don’t think that consulting anyone would necessarily make it a better product. If anything is wrong when it comes out, they can correct it, but you don’t necessarily build a better game by building by committee.
@Vayne You mean testers like WoodenPotatoes who has countless of times addmited in his videos that he doesn’t really know how WvW even operates? His PvE guild? Good job right there, now, please, prove me wrong by going to WvW section and making a thread about it, lets see how many people agree with you, of course you won’t do that.
No, they invited WvW guilds, actual WvW guilds to play the new map. No one has to agree with the truth for it to be true.
Did you go to the EoTM beta. Many of the big WvW guilds were there. Why do you bother answering when you clearly have no idea of what went on?
Sylvari shouldn’t be in your guilds in the first place. We’re too good for you guys. lol
That is a pretty smart way of keeping people visiting silver wastes.
If you need cheap tricks like that to make people stay in sw, then you’d better start thinking hard about the (re)design of the whole area.
Really, if i need to go to SW for crests tp buy keys, i might as well use those keys there, without the need to jump to home instance at all. It’s not like i have ever lacked shovels while looking for chests.
I’m not sure why you believe this.
There are very few zones anywhere, in any MMO that say relevant and keep people long term. People always tend to gravitate to new zones. And the Silverwastes, by design, has to have a minimum number of people running it to be effective.
You make it sound like no really good zone was ever abandoned, but we know from history that this isn’t true.
Plenty of people abandon zones like Timberline Falls, because they have no real reason to go there.
The zone doesn’t need a redesign because people leave it at some point. And it certainly doesn’t need it now, because the Silverwastes has plenty of players currently.
But it may not always be that way.
If you hit me up in game, I’ll tell you the story. lol
Hopefully this is the last plant people story arc we’re getting, I doubt I’m the only one who’s rather tired of seeing sylvari in everything.
Is there anything about this game you do like?
Of course, sadly those parts of the game are heavily neglected – Fractals and WvW.
Since we know that dungeon developer team has been disbanded and knowing the poor (even worse than in PvE) WvW communication – I’m not hyped.
For all we know they might me working on a new WvW map, but with no one caring about feedback or listening, it might end up being another EOTM.For me personally, new PPT system alone would be better than all the last 8 episodes of the living story.
These are the types of comments that burn me the most. EotM had an alpha server filled with WvW guild who all commented on it at the time. I was on that server and I read those forums.
Many of the comments made on those forums were incorporated into EotM.
The things that people complain about EotM today weren’t raised on those forums to my knowledge. EoTM didn’t become something great because Anet put in a test server or didn’t listen to people.
In fact, EoTM to me, illustrated just how hard Anet’s job really is. A whole lot of people and guilds, including mine, tested EoTM, and none of us saw what it would become.
That said, EotM is undoubtedly a popular part of the game anyway. A lot of people like it.
But a lot of the WvW’ers who tried it and liked it in alpha don’t like it now.
Listening to the fans and giving them early access did exactly what to help?
I have to second this. I loved that cinematic. And if you guys want to share the cookies you get, I’ll be happy to help. lol
Hopefully this is the last plant people story arc we’re getting, I doubt I’m the only one who’s rather tired of seeing sylvari in everything.
I don’t know, I went through pretty much all of Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbits were pretty much the center of everything. The Dwarves were insular, the Elves were leaving, humanity had fallen, and only the hobbits could do what needed to be done.
Is there anything about this game you do like?
I was really stunned by the ad in the game. I didn’t think it was badly done…but it certainly caught me completely off guard.
I can honestly see where the OP is coming from, but it didn’t bother me personally.
There’s also a huge difference between killing someone who asks you to kill them and killing someone who doesn’t. In my mind, there’s an element of releasing Wynne from her pain and fulfilling her Wylde Hunt in the process.
That wouldn’t have been the case with Faolin.
Not to be the killer of joy in all this, but regardless of whatever Anet puts out at this point, the RP campaign between here and whatever they’ve been doing really won’t add up to a redemption for a lot of people. The most it can do right now is keep the boat from going under.
Things Anet still needs to learn to do:
- Stop making promises: SAB isn’t back, hasn’t been back, isn’t coming back.
- Stop lying. Refer to above, precursor crafting
- Stop being cheap: Copy-pasting every single piece of content already produced in some way
- Stop breaking things that work fine: Traits, Personal Story, the whole NPE
- Stop NOT communicating with the player base. Gaile’s great, but she must have a heart of some ungodly tough alien alloy because she’s literally being given the task of “Go swim in the feeding frenzy”. Anet’s communication looks something like this, *Screenshot a portal. Add text, “November 4” *.
- Refer to any of the above to see if this is resolved with an expansion. No? Okay, well… that’s going to continue to really pull down any long term profit besides the money an expansion brings. So, in short, if we’re getting an expansion… great. If they expect it resolves anything… I’m not sure it will. It will buys them time to save the game. That’s about it.
SAB will back back. Why do you say it’s never coming back.
The game is fine. Not everyone agrees with your assessment. Any expansion will probably keep a good percentage of the players if it’s good.
If it’s even an expansion in the traditional sense.
Dunno. It’s not specifically what I was waiting for.
There’s no point to getting hyped. If you get hyped enough, something good will seem less than it is.
Hype sets the bar impossibly high way too often.
It probably won’t improve your gaming experience.
Yeah that hyped me more than anything I’ve seen elsewhere.
Now, can I laugh at all the people who were sure there was no expansion?
I still don’t think this is an expansion in the traditional sense. I’d wait till the end of the month.
Okay, HoT is definitely 100% not a compilation of past stories. I know this for a fact. You all will too very soon. lol
If they did not announce an expansion….. one is not coming.
Players have waited for some of the things that did get announced, have waited two years (and counting) for them, and you guys are acting like anet is going to surprise everyone with an expansion without saying anything about it?
I don’t understand this logic at all.
Every time something stopped working in my house, my mother always said the same thing. I don’t understand, it was working yesterday.
If they have an expansion coming, at some point they will announce the expansion. That means prior to their announcing it, it was still coming but unannounced.
A lot of people say it takes a couple of years to make an expansion. Now that it’s getting closer, maybe they’re ready to announce it.
I should have said….. if an expansion is not already announced…. then one isn’t coming (any time in the next 5 years).
We are still waiting for things promised in 2012….
Sure but there’s stuff that hasn’t been promised that came out. The thing is, prior to this, it was probably unlikely to expect an expansion because Anet was working on the China release and that takes time and energy.
But that doesn’t mean an expansion or expansion type content isn’t being worked on.
Anet will annouce it, probably about six months before they’re ready to deliver. That seems to be a safe bet. It means that they’re not ready to deliver an expansion in the first half of this year…nothing more.
I don’t know why people think 2 years is such a long time between expansions.
The community fuels the train but Anet is more than happy to never attempt slowing the kitten thing…
So when the rage finally starts, it’s partly their own doing.
I can remember at least one (probably more than one) instance where Anet was quick to slow down the hype train.
If they don’t do it in this instance, then they don’t need to (in my opinion).
I just wish people would lose the word expansion from their thought process. Expansion has certain connotations that may not be met by this announcement. While it is likely the game will be expanded, I’m not so sure most people will consider what’s coming an expansion.
Wanze is quite right to urge caution.
My guess is if the staff doesn’t quash the expansion rumor now, and it’s not an expansion, there’s going to be a riot.
If they did not announce an expansion….. one is not coming.

inb4 it’s another book
It can’t be a book, since you don’t trademark anything to make a book. Books are copyrighted.
Why would they make a new logo for a book?
That’s negative logic. You’re making the assumption that the main reason people think an expansion is coming because of Daewoo Security. I couldn’t care less what they say.
My argument for an expansion (or at least expansion like content) isn’t based even slightly by what Daewoo has to say.
So therefore, your logic doesn’t apply.
I’m not applying logic anywhere, I’m just saying these are the only hints we have around expansion. I’m curious what your argument is based on, though.
A new trademark registered around Guild Wars 2 by NcSoft as of today.
Before that I’ve made my arguments elsewhere, but they’re pretty much the same arguments made by columnists for Massively and MMRPG.com

Did they trademark previous Living story chapters?
No, but it’s not just the trademark…it’s a brand new logo. None of the earlier Living Stories had their own logos.
I’m still not on the expansion train yet. I’ve always thought we’d get new race/profession, but I’m not sure it’ll be through an expansion.
Favorite is Ranger. Least favorite is Warrior.
Warriors feel boring to me. In theory, they’re good at facerolling content. Everyone loves Fracerolling stuff and then complaining the game is too easy.
I also really enjoy mesmer.
Crafting gathering tools that aren’t permanent might not upset the cash shop much.
Don’t think you’ll find a lot of support for your idea on these forums OP. This game was never supposed to be about continually getting more levels or higher stats or gear.
Most people aren’t interested in Ballet, but I have no object to ads in the paper for a performance.
It depends. If something big is coming, I’m satisfied with the progress. If something big isn’t coming, I’m not satisfied with it.
The problem is the lack of communication from Anet.
If everyone knew an expansion was coming this year, these threads wouldn’t even exist.
Something like this already exists in game if you can get the PvP tournament armor. Very very few people will have that.
lol you guys…………..
The Op asked for january 13th.
This is when the LS continues not Pax. This would be 23-25th.
This is not a feature patch or something. My prediction:
New LS chapter… we run around clicking through textboxes for 3 magic stones to open the door.
Door opens…… cliffhanger. Some people will really be disappointed next Tuesday
LS takes a short break and continues in summer.
Dates were never my strong point. That’s why I didn’t date much.
They’re great because the leveling experience is so bad.
To each their own. I found the leveling experience to be leaps and bounds better than any MMO I’ve played. There are many things wrong with GW2. The leveling experience is not one of them.
This is my take on it too. Even with the changes, it’s still hands above any other MMO I’ve played.
