Breakbar isn’t too bad, but Anet definitely went a little overboard with it. More so in the new maps, where a lot of vets and such have it as well.

The scaling with breakbars is annoying to say the least. Then there are mobs, where even when you break the bar, the stun lasts a second at most.

What if…. a level 400 scribe could combine 1000 clouds, plus a bunch of other mats, to create an arcade box in the guild hall, 1 for world 1, another for world 2?? Allowing people to play SAB forever?

And yes, itd be pricy, but I imagine people would be more than willing to make SAB focused guilds to do it, if they don’t want to do it in their current guilds, and people could join these just for SAB

Yea, for me, the first 3, n now 4 aren’t too unique as far as their design. Only things that really stand out on em are the sound effects and projectiles. Like, running around, I’d never notice someone with one of the new legendaries until I hear the SFX, assuming I’m not listening to music.

This, coupled with how much more effort it takes to make one compared to the older legendaries, makes them even more “meh” for me.

Ven Zehn.6573

Yea, it’s a lot harder to notice the lack of individual player skill over all since everything now depends on numbers, and with enough numbers, you just have to follow the crowd.

Case in point would be the HoT maps, where people were constantly complaining (and still do) about being unable to get through them solo. But then you get boss events, metas, that all require numbers to complete.
This was the nice thing about Gerent initially though, where each member had to maximize their builds and play to successfully kill the Gerent.

A lot of people going on about money though…. how many pure dungeon runners could be counted among the richest in the game, from just doing dungeons and such? Even if you got a precursor drop, you’d barely be any richer than the average player.
Even if you sold dungeon paths, you’d basically be middle class at most. The vast amounts of wealth people get are from other things.

A mapping suggestion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ven Zehn.6573

Don’t really need to memorize the maps, but do remember landmarks, and pathways. TD is considered the toughest map to navigate, but once you realize most of the map is the 4 lanes, and everything else branching off from it, becomes a lot easier.

Like finding shortcuts from home to your school (way back when kids were allowed to walk to school).

I enjoy it for the fact that it isn’t just a straight path from point A to point B.. what kind of forest would that be then…..

Ah k, just misread your meaning then:) Yea, while their overall kit does sound op based on numbers/paper, but in practice, I find them very underwhelming and easy to counter for the most part.
I got very bored of rev when I tried it out, really didn’t like the inability to change your whole utility set based on what you want, instead having to focus on picking the legend with the abilities you need.

So I’m the only one who really has no issue against revs? Honestly Scrappers are the only ones I worry about when I see them in the roster, but even then, not many can use Scrappers to their fullest.

Yes revs have a lot of gimmicks, but learn to tell when they use em, and learn to counter play em.

Ven Zehn.6573

Most if not all knockback/knockdown mechanics in fractals are pretty easy to deal with, and change the flow of combat. I’d rather not be able to stack a spot and “1” everything down.

I like the idea of a Mursaat fractal though (but if you recall, the Mursaat liked their interrupt/kd’s too )

The comments on dungeons creating a toxic grp environment…… because raid and fractal grps are any less “toxic”

I personally have never really experienced a level of toxicity that would make me dislike trying to party up for dungeons, but at the same time, I avoided any LFG’s that looked particularly arrogant/toxic, because from experience, those were rarely my fastest runs.

As far as success for the raids, it was always meant for a smaller subset of the population, similar to tribulation mode, most of the population will never try it, and many of those who do try, will probably try once, ever.

Even with fractals, I find it hard to persuade non-fractal people to do fractals, even when I tell them my friends and I will basically carry them lol…..

Dungeons were a lot easier to get people into, and once they had a good experience with the dungeons, they liked it, some more than others, but at least it broke the notion of “dungeons are hard, I don’t wanna touch it ever”.

Dungeons provided an easy option for people to spend their time, whether or not they needed gold or tokens.

Raids are fine and all, but how easy is it to throw together a group and get going.

Fractals were fun, but now it’s just a swamp fest, easier than running AC…….. even at high lvls

The Aetherblade addition to TA was one of my favorite add on’s in general

And it would be easy enough to update the things you can buy with tokens: we have guild halls that need decorations, among other things.

Rangers can now steal other ranger’s pets by taming them away if they don’t already have that pet tamed.

In smokescale filter, you will randomly have a smokescale appear, blocking your view and drenching the screen in red.

Anyone remember the riddles and puzzles from the the old RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2? or the bridge puzzle in Dragon Age?

I think maps similar in idea to those might be fun, though I’m sure people would cry quite a bit lol.

Like: Solve the puzzle as a team within the time limit, if you succeed, you get a bonus chest and move on, if you fail, the forest comes alive, you fight it off, and move on.

Or rather than forest and trees coming alive (a tad overdone atm), perhaps the boulders and stones around you come alive, queue cool coming alive cinematic that lasts 3s

Yea, if we take the pvp backpiece for a reference:

1 gift via achievement rewards
1 gift via mystic forge + mats
1 gift of fortune

For fractals, like others have said, a collection/achievement based one is likely
and the last one, maybe purchasing a few things with our matrices, relics and pristine relics, thrown in the forge with some other things? Maybe a complete journal here, obtained by doing fractal 100?

As for time of release…. well, lets hope for the quarterly update in April (sooner would be nice, but doesn’t seem like Anet’s gonna do it)

Kind of funny/sad that the first legendary we were shown prior to expansion release has taken so long to actually be made available:(

Skyhammer Design Discussion

in PvP

Posted by: Ven Zehn.6573

Ven Zehn.6573

I enjoy it:

The whole map for me is a whole situational awareness map. Know where you are, know what can happen to you depending on where you stand and what abilities you use.

Skyhammer: now that we can block/evade it, less of an issue. The team that controls it and is using it, has 1 less player to rotate, so use that to your advantage. If instead, your whole team sits at mid getting blasted, that’s on your team….

Falls: I’ve used knock backs n pulls to great effect here, and I’ve been on the receiving end a lot as well. Teaches you to pay attention to who you’re playing against, and understanding how best to position yourself in a fight.

We have more than enough maps where all you need to do is roll your face really hard to win, I’d rather not lose the unique aspects of some of these maps, it’s already boring enough doing Nifhel and Foefire constantly……

EDIT: Please don’t make the skyhammer automated either, a skilled skyhammer user vs an inexperienced user changes the game quite a bit, and both teams have to take that into account, as to whether or not they should bother taking out the skyhammer user.

Though, adding a second way to get into the skyhammer could be nice

in PvP

Posted by: Ven Zehn.6573

Ven Zehn.6573

Yea, and I do agree, that losing games due to sheer ineptitude of teammates is aggravating.
But, I’d blame that more on the fact that everyone who wants the reward HAS to do ranked, no matter how experienced, and they have no reason to do unranked if theyre only pvping for rewards.
As far as LoL, was fun for a while for me, but got old fast.
I enjoy PvP, but I also enjoy getting rewards, and I like getting skins, why? Who knows, who really knows lol…..

Remove all rewards from PVP.

in PvP

Posted by: Ven Zehn.6573

Ven Zehn.6573

And all the sudden you get 10 total people q’ed at peak times… (exaggerated, in case you don’t catch the sarcasm )

People will complain about rewards locked behind specific content no matter what, “I don’t want to do raids, wvw, fractals, dungeons, etc. for the sake of a skin”

Rather than removing the reward, perhaps making it so they can at least get a couple tiers of rewards via unranked, so they can learn without affecting ranked, and after they build up experience, they’ll at least not be a super detriment to a team in ranked.

As far as the mentality of “needing” a skin or completion, yea, that’s kind of what gaming in general has gotten to, people want goals, and goals are the way games maintain their player base, remove all rewards, remove all goals, lose most of your player base.

New to pvp -Gunflame vs GS/Hammer

in Warrior

Posted by: Ven Zehn.6573

Ven Zehn.6573

I run my war with Paladins amulet, Rifle Sword/Shield, similar to what ive run in the past.

Shield is invaluable for dealing with all the aoes every other class brings, from DH traps to Reaper bursts, and Mesmer shatter bursts. Combines with the shield trait, you can make a lot of classes regret fighting you

Rifle has a lot of utility once you get used to it, and gunflame is frankly awesome, huge range, piercing, daze, and high damage.

One thing to note, it’s a lot harder for any melee nowadays due to the amount of aoe dmg some classes can bring, but it can still be done, you just have to be a lot more mobile.

I rarely lose in 1v1’s, whether against reapers, chronos, or others, however scrappers can basically hard counter my build if they’re any good (Have won plenty of 1v2’s as well)

Also keep that in mind, a lot of classes carry reflect, so be careful with shooting lol, luckily wars have awesome weap swap speed, so just swap to melee when they pop reflects.

As for hammer, I loved it, the amount of cc you can do is insane, and against low stab comps, you can destroy, but I agree with the others, it’s just not as effective right now in pvp team fights. (I haven’t tried Rifle/Hammer though, which might be a nice midground, more cc/aoe with less defense/mobility)

Idea for some Decorations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ven Zehn.6573

Ven Zehn.6573

Was just thinking, we have a lot of old event related items, like Marjory’s Journal, or the Zephyr Sanctum model, and I was thinking it’d be cool if we could donate those to the guild halls for decorations.
Like, the Flame of Kryta (I think it was called) could be turned into wall mounted torches
Marjory’s Journal could become books placed on the ground, and combined with bookshelves
The Sanctum Model.. already has a deco like model for it, and maybe a scribe could combine a few of em with other mats to make a larger more comprehensive model?

Most matches I’ve had, there has been a clear disparity in skill/experience between the teams, especially in lower ranks.
I have had a few very close games, some being within 10 points, but those are extremely rare.
But yea, I think main disparity is due to a lot of people having to grind up through the ranks till they reach their “native” rank, so early in the season you will get these types of matches more often.

Only thing that bums me out about this season (though not much) is that we can’t get triple pips n such anymore, and we can gain pips despite a loss.
