Melee Pistols

Ven Zehn.6573

You’re thinking something like the Engi Rifle attack that does more damage at close range, but that still does damage at range.

Your examples of other weapons that aren’t quite standard:
Staff: Melee staff is something that has always been a thing in the world, Range staff works because of magic.

Axe: Throwing Axes have always existed, only difference for GW2 is that they magically return (this also exists in a few older games, Baldur’s Gate/Icewind Dale)

Hammer: Generally melee, for the range aspect on Revs: I’d explain it as using the hammer to strike mist energy, and that energy is what moves at range.

Greatsword on Mesmer: watch the animation, the Mesmer uses the GS more as a way to focus and guide magic.

What you’re asking with the pistol, is to remove the projectile completely, it’s not a magic weapon, it doesn’t even use spirit energy, and would be akin to brass knuckles or something.
Would a person take a rifle and use it as a club as its primary method of attack? (would only happen if you were out of ammo and had no other option)

Also, only 3 classes get to use pistol, and one can already use Pistol Whip

Yea, the mini issue isn’t with agro or anything:D They just don’t get stealthed, so people can see where you are if they notice it.

Pros and cons for both lol.

You could even use it as a strategy: 4 people keep minis on, stealth and run left, while 10 people hide minis and run right

When All Elder Dragons are Dead

Should all dragons be defeated (the bad ones at least) I don’t think the leftover minions would have the capacity to soak up magic as the dragons do.
The more powerful minions would soak up more than others, and become notably more powerful, which would then lead to them getting destroyed by us, releasing the magic again. And without the dragons, minions would slowly get wiped out in time, so even fewer beings that can take the place of the dragons.

Perhaps though, the gods and spirits, and other similar beings could take their place.

Could we get an option to hotkey “Hide/Show Minipet”? Or a small button on the UI somewhere, but a hotkey would probably be less intrusive and easier to implement.

Couple reasons for this, our pets get auto-hidden when maps get overpopulated, but they don’t get auto-show’ed when that changes.
Secondly, WvW, apparently enemies can see the minipets even if we’re stealthed, so a veil push could potentially be spotted by a mini Mr Mittens, as such, generally everyone is expected to hide their minis.

Just a QoL suggestion that I’m sure many would like.

I have 5 map completions of HoT, and have absolutely no plan to make any of the new legendary weaps (armor maybe, we’ll see when that’s released)

So, I’d like something I could use the gifts for, maybe that map of maguuma with the ley energy concentrations in Auric Basin?

Also, more stuff to use my Gifts of Exploration as well:D

And I still want dungeon/fractal/raid based decorations that you purchase with tokens from their respective content, decos that don’t necessarily require scribe (except for more advanced versions of those decos maybe)
-Caudecus manor could give beds, which can be crafted into bunkbeds
-AC could give coffins, which can be combined to make spirit generators
-TA maybe the various plants n such in there, upgraded to aetherpath decos
you get the idea:)

A few things that I’ve noticed on my war the last few days I’ve been playing, wondering if anyone else has noticed it (pretty much all during pvp, I don’t run into the same situations outside of pvp really)

First, some of my rifle skills won’t turn me toward my target, and instead, it goes on a short cd (as if I cancelled the attack), has anyone else noticed this more often than before? (I’d understand if I was moving 1 direction and I tried to attack someone behind me, but I’m pretty sure it’s happened even when I’m not moving)

Second, a few of my short range leap type skills don’t seem to be moving me as they should be every time (there are times my character isn’t moved at all), in particular, Headbutt.

And lastly, there have been many occasions where my leap skills don’t move me out of a root (immob) despite having the trait. Some skills do clear the immob and move me out, but others have not been, seems kind of random.

This is still a thing it seems...

For me, the main issue with spammable stealth is loss of target, which is more noticeable on ranged weaps imo.

Would be nice if the stealth acted a bit more like it does in most other games, where if you’re close enough, you get detected, or at least more easily detected.
Or if you take damage, you lose stealth.
And attacking should reveal, even if you miss, even if you get blocked (especially if you get blocked).

While not likely ever to be implemented, I would love “Champion vs Champion”, with morale effects lol. Set up so they cant get attacked by other players, maybe a ring in the center area.
Granted, some crap player or spy might enter the ring, causing one side to lose morale.

50% boon/debuff would be way too op though, 10% would be noticeable enough.

Ven Zehn.6573

Best counter to a huge blob is multiple smaller “blobs” that work together, but at the same time separately, that I’ve seen.
Wolf pack mentality as opposed to swarm mentality. Does it always work? no, but I’ve seen much larger groups get taken down buy smaller groups (with overall fewer numbers than the large group)
And it’s tough to get that coordination most of the time, unless the commanders are in comms together.
Each smaller group still needs to be relatively disciplined though.

Think of it like 2 players against a hard bunker, alone you probably cant take a good bunker down (at least in a timely fashion), but together, you can break through their defenses.

As far as countering a huge blob that keeps capping/defending everything, start hitting too many things for them to respond to.

Can they be thrown into the mystic forge?

Maybe, but lvl 0 white weapons wont yield much even if upgraded to blue in a forge, I’m wondering if people just buy it at 3 copper or so, and repost em for like 10 copper.

NA T1 needs more balance

Ven Zehn.6573

Pretty sure everyone complained about JQ having the biggest population for a while, long long ago. Every server has the potential to pull those numbers into WvW (key word “potential”), but if their communities don’t care for WvW, and they don’t have guilds/players that promote WvW on their servers, then yea, it won’t be likely for the servers to get the same numbers showing consistently.

Do you think, maybe, just maybe, the people in Blackgate WvW because they like it, and those who join the server, do so because they see it as something they want? People were transferring to Blackgate even when we were getting 3rd place, even when we dropped to t2 randomly, and even after we got 3rd place in season 2 (and yes, I’m sure some came due to the war council, but I don’t think any of those guilds stayed long, could be wrong, but who knows, I’m just another random player).

How bout trying to create a welcoming and happy place in your own servers, where people would want to join you.

Maybe a real life example could help: Company A smiles at all their employees, gives them donuts, and asks them about their lives, Company B asks that you put in overtime without extra pay, and doesn’t even know you just got married. Which company would you want to work for, which would you want to stay with?

This isn’t something Anet can fix alone, this is something that each community has to do themselves.

I just have to applaud Blood Red’s long (but good) response

I’ve tried teaching guildies various methods of making cash with minimal effort, via investments. Some have caught on, but most are too afraid to put in the initial investment (perhaps they don’t trust me enough). However those willing to take the risk, have profited (as far as I know).

I’ve found that those who use gem conversions tend to be those who aren’t as “skilled” at making money ingame, so they turn to other options.
Others still, use various other ways to make gold, like converting karma into linen (or similar schemes), and while they work, they’re pennies compared to what they could be doing with that time.

As far as investments, it does take some intuition, some experience, but in this case, if a rich guildie or friend tells you there’s something you should invest in, take a leap of faith.

Depends for me, I’m one to stay and fight even if it’s 1v2, though if a 3rd hops in the fight, and I think I have a chance to get away, I will, if not, I’ll try to at least take one with me lol.
Hell, I’ve jumped into outnumbered fights just for the fun of it lol.

Same with small scale and large scale fights, if my side pushes, I fully expect to win or die, but many commanders will pull out if they think even for a second that they might lose. (This bums me out a lot, and I prefer not to follow commanders who do this all the time)
On the other hand, if another zerg gets the jump on us, then, if we can fight, we fight, if not, pull out, reposition, and push back in.

(Kind of why I hate thieves the most, roaming around, attacking, and running away, more often than not, running away, until they can get the advantage again)

Confusion and Torment need adjusting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ven Zehn.6573

Ven Zehn.6573

I agree these need different effects in PvP, WvW, and PvE.
Main issue in PvE was that enemies didn’t use skills as often and some didn’t move very much if at all, so the passive DoT was needed.
PvP, I honestly don’t notice them much when playing against condi builds.

WvW though, is where it is noticeable, due to the existence of things like Perplexity Runes, food buffs, and probably other variables.
Torment: L2NotMove, except all around you are probably hard hitting AoE’s or AoE’s applying even more condi’s. So, you stand still, you die, you move, you take considerable damage.
Confusion combined with Blind is particularly annoying: You can cleanse, but how many of us have enough cleanses for how many condis a condi build can apply? So easiest way to clear blind is an autoattack, except then you take damage. You can’t really wait it out.

On that note though, out of all the condis, I hate bind the most. I used to run blinding ashes, but that was nerfed, which would’ve been fine, except anet left thief and Mesmer blinds alone, and thieves in particular, can keep you blinded pretty much indefinitely if they’re good.

Sorry if it sounded that way, but when I said uncoordinated, I meant between the 2 or more servers, not within each server.
Even now people complain of not having a TS3 where everyone can join, and considering even before merges, we had plenty of TS3 spies and such, so the risk of allowing more “unknown” people into a server’s TS3 carries risks, that some might not be willing to take.

And that’s just the communication side of it.

Then you throw in the fact that each server has their own commanders, and depending on their egos and willingness to work together, and listen to one another, you can have anything from solid coordination between commanders to 5 different commanders doing their own thing and ignoring everything else.

Granted, many of these issues will probably get smoothed over with time, but who’s to say how long it will take each pairing to get used to each other. And by the time you do, it might be time for another merger.

Not saying low-skilled, never did in that post if you read it without bias. I’m saying T1 guilds and their pugs have played together for a long time, vs 2 servers of populations who’ve never played with each other (or rarely have).

Not saying it can’t work either, but if we take pvp teams as an example, who do you think works together better: the 5 man premade with TS or the random grp? (and yes, I’ve been in plenty of 5 man randoms and beat premades, but that’s not the point)

Ven Zehn.6573

Hmm, so a few points, and then I’ll get to my point:

Merging of lower tier servers allows for maintaining a higher active population in each map (so that wvw of low tiers is more than just a 5v5 pvp match on a larger map)
Top tier servers don’t really need that influx of players.
Low tier servers don’t seem to want to merge with high tier servers (judging from the most vocal forum warriors), though from what I’ve seen of the people running with us, they seem to like it enough.
Some seem to think merging low tier servers is great, but that high tiers shouldn’t be…..

And there in lies a problem you might have missed: 2 or more low tier servers might match up population-wise with a t1/t2 server, but you will likely lack any sort of coordination, and sort of solidarity to be of any threat to the top tiers.

Imagine a pvp match with randoms, where 3 people go to home at the start to cap….. or everyone leaves a point for kills.

Another point: If merges are removed – those in low tiers who enjoyed running with high tiers, might decide for once and for all to transfer to a server that fits what they want more. This might not be a noticeable change, or it might be very noticeable, in the low tiers. And all the sudden, low tier WvW is even more empty than before.

If on the other hand, low tiers are permanently merged, people will complain about losing their home servers.

It would be it’s own separate map, with it’s own separate objectives, not connected to WvW or the current PvE maps in any way.

It could be a way to add FoW and UW: PvE’esque maps, where people can fight.

Problem though: if it’s server bound (you can’t fight your own server) people will still “zerg”

If it’s done, and multiple servers are on the same maps, it should be a free-for-all. So you can even fight your own server.

Sounds fun enough, until the only people you ever run into are condi bunkers and perma-stealth gankers.

If you still want teams… then it is EotM… that’s what you want

It’s more than just the dodges though, they have plenty of other abilities that move/evade, combined with the dodges.
Annoying for sure, but not too big a deal, if it weren’t for that, they’d be in their loading screens after dying more often than not.

Not blaming the thieves, just the design of it. There’s no counter to the sheer amount of evade aside from weakness and waiting it out, but they cleanse condis easily enough, and there’s no issue with maintaining energy/initiative if they know what they’re doing.

Granted, some classes can basically shrug off thieves no matter the thief build. (Assuming equivalent skill levels)

For small scale roaming, they do exist even in T1, I probably spend half my time solo roaming, hitting what I can, avoiding large zergs, but I’ll gladly fight a 1v2 if I run into one (I don’t run bunker’y enough to confidently fight a 1v3), but even then I might try lol, but I’ll reposition so that I have some advantage (terrain-wise).

I feel like a lot of people expect solo roaming to be easy peasy, to always run into other solo roamers and duke it out (once in a while), without worry and without care of a greater force, what kind of WvW would that be? Sounds more boring than map completion……
It’s not hard to maneuver around large zergs, they tend to ignore small game unless you’re standing in their way. (Some zergs might have more squirrels than others)

Server pride and the strength of the community do exist, and do play a large factor in player choices in where they stay.

The guild leaders and lead guilds on a server have a surprisingly large effect on the server morale: BG was 2v1’ed in season 2 hardcore, by 2 equivalent top tier servers, we lost that season, but instead of rolling over and collapsing, we fought, we kept fighting, even knowing we were going to lose. I don’t know if many other servers have that level of community.
People can blame BG for being a bandwagon of fairweathers, but at the core, we have plenty of people (and guilds) who have done impossible/unreasonable things for their server, and others see that, and want to be part of it.

If you want a RL example: more people will want to hang out with the guy joking around and having fun with those around him, than the guy who sits around sulking, insulting others, and blaming everyone but themselves for their current situation.

Pen nib – requires 3 whole ingots….
Not only that, apparently we really suck at making sturdy items, since the pen breaks and shatters into nothingness after we write whatever we needed to write… lol.

Also, a lot of steps are rather pointless, keeping with the pen example:
We have to craft the nib, and the shaft, separately. A step or 2 can be removed from that easily enough.
I can understand some things having multiple steps, if some of those steps can branch off to other items, like paper to sandpaper.
