I’m still trying to figure out why they did not implement this system.

I’m going to stop actually typing out replies to this and just quote out others at this point.

That is the worst possible system. It guarantees that every other week a T1 server is fighting a T3 server (#3 vs #7, best case scenario, #1 vs #9 in a perfect storm), and the like repeated in every tier – which is exactly what you are complaining about happening here randomly and only for one week at a time.

Did you even give 1 minutes thought to this before you complained?

I like evades on skills. and I love the animations of it on both thieves and rangers. I like the idea of building a character to be very agile. You can have characters that are tanks, I don’t see any thing wrong with have characters that are agile.

Perhaps another option would be, then, to simply have the ability refill endurance rather than just “evade” outright (as well as shed immob). But, that doesn’t fix the issue of how soft the “evade in combat” classes are and how easily they’d be destroyed by immob-spike. Guardians and warriors do not have this because they have plate/boons/health at a constant, Rangers/Thieves have paper.

I was thinking the same thing myself today…people can go on about how great their server community is all day.. but when it comes down to WvW guilds, enjoying the game with your guild > server loyalty, pretty much every single time without fail.

They just need to lower the chaotic deviation once the ratings actually shake out a bit and get rid of the awful cancerous growth that is the last seven months of stagnation. Once that’s done, lower the div will lead to very little variation in any given week and limit the bounds to within a tier up-down, but also allow servers that implode or suddenly surge to climb the ranks very, very quickly without ten months of playing glicko2.

This is not even close to being correct. Every U.S. tier has at least 2 servers who can compete for 1st place. It would not be the same servers moving up and down week after week.

No they don’t, and they have no place in the higher tier every other week.

Take this example (Week 21):
SoR/BG/JQ
TC/FA/DB
Meg/KN/YB

If you instigated WULD, in one week you’d have (Week 22):
SoR/BG/TC
JQ/FA/Meg
DB/KN/X (from lower tier)

I can, very quickly, tell you:
SoR will win by a landslide, TC may as well not show up.
JQ will demolish, Meg need not apply.
DB will win.

So then (Week 23):
SoR/BG/JQ
TC/FA/DB
Meg/KN/YB

And forever it remains. You might get a server or two somewhere amongst the… 24 servers that moves up or down and sticks, maybe. Meanwhile, you’ve stranded: BG, FA, KN, etc, to never moving. The same exact servers would just oscillate forever, and you’d condemn TC to fighting SoR and BG every other week, and FA and Meg fighting JQ every other week.

In a one up one down scenerio, Tarnished Coast could slowly build the forces they need by recruitment or other means to compete in a higher tier. Leaving things to a random generator will/has lead to exactly this, poorly balanced and boring match ups.

Stop suggesting an even worse system. OUOD system is even more ill thought out and inspired. It does nothing but consistently give you T1vs.T2vs.T3 and T2vs.T3vs.T4, and so on down the line, every single week, and strands the middle server in permanent limbo. The system would be instantly frozen because the T1 server that loses in T1 will crush T2 and hence bounce up back to T1, then the T2 server in T3 will crush T3, and immediately bounce up to T2, and because of the nature of the system there will be a T1 server in T2 and a T2 server in T3, etc, every single week. You would strangle the match-ups instantly.

All of that is completely true, but it beats the crap out of me why you folks (ANet) can’t grasp the fact that the fundamental fault here is the WvW population imbalance between servers … period.

Doesn’t matter what they do, we went from imbalanced match ups with a server consistently winning by wide, wide margins to… the same thing with more shake-up in the fact that you don’t have to lose to the same people (or beat the same people) over and over with the possibility that (so long as you aren’t T1 matched downwards) you might lose or win for a change.

Im fine with it staying in WvW, but it needs to be balanced. Try killing me on my ranger with less than about 3 players whilst in water. Its near impossible.

You’d have trouble killing a downed ranger (assuming wolf on rotation for kd/fear) on land too without stability/elixir s/mist form, but that’s how they are designed. The underwater issue is from a lack of finishers and should be rectified.

The reason it would be for the NPCs is because this mechanical fault of the inability to control and keep up reliably a rather squishy AI that is worth 150 points, ie the Lord, is limited to Foefire and Foefire alone at the moment. There is no reason, no matter how much you might clamor for it, to rework the entire skill dynamic from group support/positioning vs. controlled targeting to controlled targeting vs. controlled targeting.

I personally prefer the former as it is; I had my fill of whack-a-mole back in GW1.

They are bad, hard counters are nothing more than rock-paper-scissors. Oh you brought a warrior which renders whole traitlines completely nonfunctional on the flimsiest class in the game? Great.

Thieves have shadowsteps on demand on their weapons with zero cooldown. They can teleport to you with mug. If they are in trouble they can run away while stealthed. If they are stupid enough to stand beside me when stealthed then they should drop.
Everyone agrees that the thief class in this game is broken due to repeated stealth during combat -except thief players-.
Stealth will not be addressed directly. I think almost a whole year since the game out with no significant change to stealth kinda shows that.

1.) If they are stupid enough to stand by you while stealthed, they will go down… because they aren’t magically immune to damage.
2.) Innitiative (though sword 2 needs a bit of a tweaking in costs) limits your “no cooldown” clause.
3.) The thief has two viable weapon sets, one of which depends on stealth rather heavily and one which depends on the sword’s ability to move all over the place. If you suddenly add a “no stealth for you” clause, the class will be down to all of one spec.

-immobilize on crit can have an internal cool down. Not rocket science. Do you check the trait description on various classes?

I didn’t consider the cooldown, fair enough though I question where or how this could be balanced to not be utterly broken at 100% crit.

Thieves steal boons… you don’t say? Perhaps it has something to do with their main class mechanics of stealing things. Necros and mesmers, ala GW1 origins, destroy/convert boons and conditions? Holy kitten! You know what warriors could do against enchantments in GW1? Cry. The era of Blinding Surge in its heyday is a prime example of why hard counters to classes is stupid.

You have to deal with the fact that not every class is meant to do the same exact things.

I want Skyhammer to be a WvW map to replace orbs with DA SKYHAMMER! that can blow up something or other on the other maps. It will be siege-less and the player cap has to be low such that any server (within reason) can fill it easily (not sure how to avoid cross server griefing).

Garrison has 10000 million arrow carts? Call in the tactical nuke.

They want to make money of people while they are still in beta. Bit of a cop out. Just don’t put any time on the current servers. All you are doing is funding the next expansion for L2 or Aion. Most probly going to Wildstar, which is where everyone should go soon as they get the chance. Anet doesn’t get the money NC does

The tokens are pretty silly cheap though, I can run CoF five~ish times (1g to 30gems) and have enough for a set of tokens. That literally takes an hour (or less) for 120 hours of CA. Run it with four friends, and in 1 hour you have a months worth of CA.

I honestly didn’t expect it to be that cheap. I wonder how much the kit will cost.

Moa didn’t lose the escape ability, however the travel distance used to be much higher (on par with RtL) which is one of the reasons few people used the skill.

Ahh alright, then perhaps that could use a reversal or at least extension. Perhaps just give it a “Withdraw” nature that it breaks immob/chill/crippled (possible even outright cantrip) while maintaining the current nerfed distance.

Stealth Detection:

Hard counters are generally very bad things, and in the case of thieves pretty much renders them moot. They are far too squishy and rely to heavily on their stealth in many specs, if you remove the stealth… you’ve pretty much removed all of their survivability and variability.

If you want to address stealth, address stealth directly. Don’t try to meander about it by introducing hard counters or we’re going to devolve into GW1: BS spam go go go.

New Debuffs:
Your criticals immobilize. Snare is useless as it can be dodged out of etc. Chill as well. Weakness on critical.

Waaaayyy too strong. 100% crit rate and, what, you’re forced to eat the full animation of 100B because Bull’s Charge not only stunned you but immobed, and then were permanently immob by 100B?

Ripping of Boons
Revamp Destruction of the Empowered:
1 boon ripped per adrenaline bar when bursting for a max of 3 boons per burst. Make it more accessible. Some weapon abilities should have boon ripping. Example GS or Axe auto sequence 3 since they are the mostly commonly used.
Something turns out OP? Hey..np..nerf it back. Whats the worst that can happen? Warriors get a spot light like mesmers/guardians/thieves since launch?Eles? etc.

DotE is fine in and of itself, it just needs to be in a better line. Its placement is terrible at the moment as the cost to take it cannot be justified against what has to be given up. The other option is to keep it where it is but have it bypass protection, though that may be too powerful.

Moa morph has more an issue in that it lost its escape ability (or at least I think it did, it’s been a while since I was morphed). It has no defensive cooldowns to offset the fact that there is no way to remove it, and as such you’re open to a free burst.

That and it breaks sigils.

I don’t see my server having any competition at all in WvW with any other servers other than the 2 that are already in T1. I feel sorry for the lower tier server playing up against any of the T1 servers. Brace yourselves for crappy match ups.

This isn’t because of glicko2 will now work as intended, this is because you stacked yourself enough to make HoD blush. No one is going to be sad about not facing you, in fact I predict much rejoicing much as people aren’t sad to not face Vizunah.

Its been what 24 hours and no fix and no statement except for the initial one WTF! This is beyond a joke now.

They gave you a statement. Would repeating it solve anything? Do you think they just stopped working on it? Enjoy the open field warring and golem hilarity, and consider it a break from the stagnation of T1.

Seems pretty good all around (except that vit buff from guard defense…???).

Oil will actually be mandatory to kill now since if it ever gets manned with a trait-ed player, its just going to melt everything while also being seemingly untouchable. The additions to WXP for rebuilding siege and in general doing the maintenance on a tower or keep is nice, and the double wxp (which works on the defense events which scouts get a lot of) is even nicer. The siege timer is even better though I’d wish superiors to tick for 2 hours, but 1 hour is good too.

Looks like I’ll have even more rings than I even know what to do with seeing as how they now come out of the rank chest. Even at 1% drop rate I’ll have more than I need rather quickly, especially since the rate of WXP gain is now even faster. The 10+ laurel discount is neat and will help for cheaper ways to gear out the many alts for WvW or otherwise. (Those asking for lower laurel cost but higher badges, do you want PvEers filling up our queue to farm camps/guards for badges to get vastly faster gear? The idea is to make it an alternative, not fed-ex overnight delivery compared to the rest of the game.)

What happened to the AC nerf? Or are we still working out the refund mechanics?

How to Make Warrior Viable

Why not go towards the approach taken by GW1 for warriors but without overdoing it? Re-introduce “breaker” skills/traits. We don’t have stances anymore but now we have aegis and sprint effectively taking the place of the old stances that would cripple warrior damage. Right now, warriors can deal damage but they have no utility with which to actually make said damage real. There’s no shock, no gale, no control abilities to pin down their opponents for the spike. They can’t even lineback anymore because of how hard it is for them to hit anything as they can just get kited perpetually because of their linear approaches.

Why not the good old Irresistible Blow: unblockable, hits and removes aegis, and knocks down. Make it a trait on hammers/maces that affects only one of the skills, perhaps have the trait change #2 to do the above. Swift Chop, Griffon’s Sweep as options for swords and axe.

Random idea to solve senseless 2 vs 1

Dungeon is extreme pvp, and you said its extreme pve…do I have to go further?

A dungeon is not “extreme PvP”, dungeons are by design PvE content (AI controlled HP sponges with some theatrical mechanics) with some PHATLOOT reward stuck at the end or on a boss’ corpse. If you happen to toss in some PvP, it doesn’t make the dungeon not PvE it just makes it a mix with another obstacle to loot: players. That sprinkling of PvP, however, doesn’t make the dungeon WvW related, no more-so than the Obsidian Sanctum… which is a jumping puzzle with PvP in it, not “extreme PvP”.

So why would WvW players fight for a dungeon that has nothing to do with their interests in WvW? Now, if they added a third unique map with, say, three spawns and a long battle line through keeps and hubs to some sort of spherical like object that gave WvW buffs while controlled in some altar-like way… we might be talking.

(To that end, though, if they do add another map, I’d highly suggest lowering the pops on the BLs. EBGs limits are fine considering its girth but I don’t think the cap for the BLs is suitable given their much smaller real space.)

I’m confused because I thought that was exactly what happened now. Not directly using populations, I realise, but a lower tier server gets more points if it does well. It is precisely why it is possible to lose and still gain points or win and lose them.

Thats for rating, not for the overall score… which is a bit backwards since your rating actually defines your server and not the score from any one week. All of these suggestions are about fixing the scoring system: i.e. trying to fight night/“someone else’s day” capping.

If the scoreboard for WvW showed rating along with score, things would probably change in regards to topics like this but, since that isn’t the case and most people don’t even know what rating is, we’ll continue to have people trying to “fix” when/how people play the game.

Here’s the difference:

  • WULD System = Only Tier 1 RED vs Tier 3 GREEN = Rank 3 vs Rank 7 = So after the new matchup begins as rank 3 went down and rank 7 went up = Rank 4 vs Rank 6
  • New System = Random Matchups = Possibility of Rank 1 vs Rank 9 or Rank 10 vs Rank 18 etc..

WULD is a terrible system.

It guarantees T1 vs. T3 every other week, and yet you berate the new system (which you don’t even seem to understand) for having the possibility to cause that to happen. You’re effectively stating that a 100% chance of a T1vst3 server match up every other week (WULD) is better than a statistically improbable chance of it happening (Chaotic Deviation).

I wonder how much work it’d be to invert the overflow mechanic or to disable a standard “server specific” mapping for the mists such that everyone is naturally thrown into an overflow.

That’s not a blanket statement, its a question with regards to common sense. One does not ask checkers masters about the state of chess, as this forum is quick to compare everything from GW2 against GW1 when they are considerably different games. Hence, I asked (to avoid blanket statements) who’s opinion we were going to tabulate? (Because, as I said, many people find this forum caustic and as such, many of the people who actually play this game don’t post here. That means that the opinion pool size of this forum is rather limited on said people, making for a very poor representation (as is true of all forums) about is actually good for the game and what some one decided was good for the game based on some other game that they wished this game was.)

You’re far too optimistic of forum etiquette. I remember, during the Curse tournie stream, someone talked about the forum (this forum) being a kitten hole… I don’t think I saw a single person disagree. I wouldn’t be surprised if many, many people are simply turned off from this forum because of the caustic nature of many posters and the threads that fly around in here. Heck, I rarely post because I find this forum mostly unbearable a lot of the time and I only stop by, usually, for some info on upcoming events/streams.

Moreover, how many of the actual top players (of this game, not the paragons of GW1 who post here regularly) do we ever see posting in here? Who’s opinion are you going to tabulate?

For that match-up to happen, as was explained in a separate thread, KN would need a perfect roll while several other servers would need perfect losing rolls. I agree that score needs to be addressed too, I have mentioned a suggestion in previous thread that after you get more data you might consider applying a handicap. (all servers are no equal so its not a scratch game) By doing so camps, towers and keeps are worth more based on the numbers available by a particular server at a particular time.

As with most handicap leagues you need to establish a baseline by playing everyone first and then it gets adjusted throughout the season.

No one wants their play time to be worth less than someone else’s, end of story. SEAS/Asia, have no personal servers and (almost always) play on NA because of how data centers are localized for lowest ping. You’re going to punish these people for playing because the other servers didn’t get as many such players?

And what happens when your system is gamed hardcore by blackouts because a server maximizes a lead initially and then just stops showing up except for small defense forces, devaluing all possible point gain?

I disagree that any random variation system would ever stabilize any system.
The new system will not bring more stability but variation, as a positive will allow imploding servers to fall faster through ranks and for the sake of randomness and variation a negative allowing uneven match-ups.
There is cause and effect, statistics only reflect the system and not fix it.

The RNG isn’t what’s going to stabilize the system, specifically. The RNG adds more sample points on which the rating can be computed and averaged. The current system has, at any given time, literally 3 data points per tier on which to build its ratings which leads to servers being literally stuck in rating for months on end because there is no chaotic deviation of any sort or adequate data accumulation on which real data can be generated.

Look back to the SoS/HoD/etc collapses, the system had nothing but old data and few incoming data points with little deviation between them on which to “rate” the dead servers. So they remained in T1/T2 for months while barely even having a standing population on a single map. If you add a chaotic deviation such that they can be literally thrown in against an opponent two tiers below and still get demolished, their rating would then tank post haste because the rating system knows that they cant even compete against low ranked servers. Likewise on the climb, the same would be true.

As more data is gathered, the chaotic deviations will lessen because there is more data to outweigh the randomness. This is, all in all, pretty standard.

Get in contact with the SotG organizers and see if they’ll have you. Anet’s already made the initiative to have a venue where questions can be asked/concerns raised in an open forum about the state of PvP, why not use said venue to raise your concerns about PvP?

It has nothing to do with how many people enjoy it, its about efficiency and effectiveness of a class. PvP is where these characteristics are pushed and tested at their limits. Warriors are a flawed class for PvP, and no matter how many times you may have died to their BR>HB combos doesn’t actually mean that the class is “good”.

You may notice that thieves/mesmers/guardians/elementalists happen to be good in PvP… and they happen to be good in WvW. Its not a coincidence that a class that is good in player combat happens to be good in both venues of player conflict.

No class melts like a warrior under any sort of pressure, necros are lacking in PvP because they are bugged out the wazoo (and engineers do it better), warriors are lacking because they are simply ineffectual in what they do.

It will still be ridiculously lopsided. The difference between even a single tier are MASSIVE. Remember the QQ from tier 8 when SF was stomping it? It will be like that for every matchup, every week….

Love how everyone here is so concerned with gear, that wont really make any impact on wvw… but aren’t discussing a game breaking change that they are implementing.

Its more than likely a glicko volatility adjustment (as in making it more volatile) with an introduction of a winners/losers medium marker to act as a soft reset on stagnating glicko. The problem with the current system is that glicko 2 is too easily stagnated by “winning by a lot” and punishes servers that win a lot by forcing them to win by even more the following week lest they be trapped in their tier forever. Even just adding much more volatility to the system would not fix this sort of an issue if the gap between tiers and, subsequently, the gap between teams in the tier itself, is so large that there’s simply not way to break the mold without divine intervention.

By adding a winners/losers medium, servers that are “stuck” winning by landslides for several weeks will circumvent their stagnating glicko and be pushed up a tier while servers who are trapped in oppressive landslide losses (EU T1) will be able to leave the tier without having to throw matches and hope that the tier below them wins by massive amounts. This acts as a soft-reset on the glicko as the moment the team rises or falls, their glicko will have to adjust accordingly to the new tier and, naturally, after the adjustment will be extremely volatile whereupon a team that cannot compete in the next tier up will quickly fall back into place. This will result in some yo-yoing but it will allow for servers to have breathing room whether it be up or down without having to “play the rating game” for weeks on end as they are forced to do now.

Yes, you’ll get lopsided matches… but you already have lopsided matches. And teams that are winning by landslides could use a change of pace where they actually face opposition even if its a very steep change in competition between tiers.

I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about. They are meatshields but the dynamic of the class (ie. it doesn’t have one because of its linearity) is one of the easiest to counter and is the reason they are non-existant in tPvP.

Vena… I disagree… sure some servers will go up a tier and be out of their depth for a week… so what? They will drop back down the following week.

The servers will just yo-yo. The match up would be identically stale and several teams would be stuck permanently (specifically at the top and bottom) and the middle server of each tier would be trapped unable to ever move. There really is no magical algorithm to be set up.

In NA, with respect to your other points, the gaps between tiers are pretty apparent and steep especially the jump from T2 to T1.

So I have zero fear of being farmed… instead I would relish the opportunity to go guild on guild in WvW… as would most of the other organised guilds…. and it does not matter if we win or lose… what matters is that we are having fun. I could easily bare a week of losing all the time, as long as I was having some good fights. I know that the following week I will be back down a tier where we obviously proved we are capable to regain our confidence.

This would be better to just ask for GvG separate map.

ANet implemented something that they didn’t fully test, clearly didn’t understand, wasn’t asked for, and generates more angst than it addresses.

People have been asking for traps, barricades, more siege options, for ages. Stop bullkittenting to try and fill in your usual daydreams. The rest of your points are fine but don’t make kitten up.

As a poster above me states – orbs were removed for less issues than this.

They removed Orbs for a far, far better reason than they’d remove this. No one enjoyed hours upon hours of work in claiming an orb overturned because some kitten hacked. Most of us can live with kittenty thieves trying to gank our supply.

Just simplify things… winner of the week moves up a tier, loser moves down, middle server stays put… So you get two new servers every week guaranteed.

Except a server that might be winning in one tier doesn’t mean they will accomplish anything but get morally crushed in a higher tier when coverage numbers change drastically.

Take, for example, TC/DB in T2 of NA. They have both won in their tier a few times and (now) DB is shaping up to possibly replace JQ if the transferring continues. Do you know what would have happened to either in T1 had they gone before the heavy stacking? Farmed by the other two servers day in and day out, and absolutely wiped off the maps at certain hours because of the coverage gaps that are blatantly apparent between T1 and T2 servers. And then log into to be faced with fortified, waypointed keeps everywhere.

You may not like stale (but “relatively” balanced) matches but I’m sure you’re going to like getting smeared, while being farmed for PPT and bags, into the ground even less.

I thought the patch two weeks ago was actually pretty good. Balance is in a decent place (unless you’re a warrior or a necro) and I wasn’t expecting any changes yet because we need to actually see how this rather stable~ish balance shakes up over the month. We just had a sledgehammer balancing, don’t think we need another just yet.

CA and SM have opened up the scene for a lot viewers (relatively speaking compared to what little life PvP viewing had before them for this game) and I’d rather the devs take their time to address our suggestions well rather than introduce things in a hurry that may or may not even work as intended.

Or maybe I’m just too optimistic.

They do have a cooldown, its a global 1-sec on equip/unequip for kits. Putting that to five seconds, or just putting on an additional 5-sec cooldown may well just murder the class without major other changes.

Your comparison is otherwise flawed because you’re comparing a main mechanic of the class (engineers) with general mechanic of the mesmer. Yes, Mesmers have a prerequisite but they also have clones which do more than just stand there, something that an engineer doesn’t have access to while he may be swapping weapons and using his F-keys. The elementalists have access to four completely different sets which, technically, you can also do with a engineer but why the hell would you? I don’t think there’s an actual viable spec with four kits unlike the almost innately viable 4 elementalist attunements.

Saying etc, etc doesn’t exactly build a point. Moreover I question your understanding of the mechanics of this game, you can cancel an on-going ability/animation so long as its not a mobility skill that has a fixed trajectory and must carry out said trajectory. (Unless, somehow everything is vastly different when not playing a guardian.)

Neverwinter’s combat is not good as far as my opinion of it goes, and its certainly never going to amount to anything in PvP because of the crazy model its running with in the cash shop.

I’ve generally never understood the dislike of downed state except on a topic of balance between the classes. Its a mechanic and you learn to play with it, just as in Aion you’d learn to play with flying.
