So my options are to try and convince Taimi, a genius with a bright and promising future, to give up a recently built device that will no doubt look like child’s play when she is an adult and making truly amazing things, so that I can get a Councillor of the Asuran leadership to attend a summit with the purpose of saving the world…

Or I can tell Taimi to keep her invention, tell Plunt to go grease his own wheels, risk the summit, and probably kitten the world to destruction, ensuring Taimi will never become an adult and never surpass what she’s done to this point?

I’m sorry. My character, being a rational adult, would try to convince Taimi to give it up. There is a big picture here. Taimi’s got a long life ahead of her to do better than the measly work Phlunt is going to steal now.

Do we have too much power? ( Spoilers)

The Shadow of the Dragon Fight didn’t seem to be so much the PC solo’ing the Dragon, as driving it off single-handedly. We gave it a bloody nose. We didn’t kill it. The dialogue from various NPCs makes that perfectly clear after the fact.

That said, given a reasonable progression of events, our characters started as no-ones, joined an Order, gained experience battling Dragon Minions and even -champions- and become a Commander of the Pact. By the time we get to the Pale Tree, I think it’s reasonable to say we have enough experience, strength, intellect, and have been equipped well enough, to give a Champion a bloody nose. I’ll say it again.

We are the Commander of the Pact.

We’re no longer fresh out of the fahrar. We’re no longer sauntering out of Divinity’s Reach, we’re no longer trying to create a legend for ourselves (we’ve already made one and are now just enhancing it), we’re no longer sitting in Rata Sum with our Krewe, and we’re no longer fresh out of the Pod at the Grove. By this point in time, our characters have ascended to the point where they are comparable to Legendary figures like Logan, Rytlock, Caithe, Zojja, and Eir. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn one of -them- gave a dragon a bloody nose in a desperate struggle. It shouldn’t be a surprise that our characters can either.

As far as the world leader nonsense goes, I felt that their viewpoints were all valid concerns for them. It’s a difficult choice we’re presenting them with. “Protect your homes and lose them in the future, or fight a war and possibly have no homes to come back to.” It shouldn’t be a surprise they need convincing, nor should it be a surprise that the Commander of the Pact who has been neck-deep in dragon activity should be the one to tell them and convince them.

Vexander.9850

I don’t think Taimi should die to be honest. I like her as a character. However, if she survives this experience, hopefully it will humble her some, and we’ll find her hanging back more, rather than being directly in the line of danger. We need more characters that we have to go to for answers, rather than conveniently get carried in our pockets. I felt like Taimi being left at Scarlet’s old place in Prosperity was a step in the right direction as far as this goes. We simply didn’t come up with anything to bring her is the problem.

As it is though, there are other characters in DE 2.0 I’d like to see bite the bullet or go to live off-screen first.

you can’t give the grove’s avatar a get out of jail free card.. the hierarchy of all other playable races is susceptible to damage.. if it can’t be done without conflicting player character creation, then it’s substandard game lore..

This is because Queen Jennah, Knut Whitebear, Smodur the unflinching, and the Arcane council ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR BABIES TO BE MADE.

The Pale tree, KINDA freaking is for the Sylvari race.

basically, it’d cause the same amount of work in a sense as curing the foefire would.

Unless the death of the Pale Tree somehow acts as a biological trigger for the Sylvari and enables them to reproduce.

That’d be pretty dumb. I’d expect a new seed get planted and watching it gradually grow during the downtime before Season 3 if the Pale Tree was to be eliminated.

I don’t see how it’s necessarily dumb. In a beehive, you don’t find the females reproducing until the Queen Bee dies and is replaced. In this sense, if the Pale Tree dies, it might be the biological trigger the Sylvari need to be able to reproduce for themselves.

To be fair, we just got a whole load of new weapon skins in the previous patch. There may or may not be more variety in the next patch if we’re looking at a pattern where the 1st installment of a chapter brings minor rewards, and the 2nd installment brings a wider selection of skins and such. Granted this chapter is supposed to be 4 installments long, so I’m not sure the same pattern applies.

Personally I’m curious to see how this backpack will look in its final stage. If for no other reason, I’m just going for it to add more options to my Wardrobe. May make a Sylvari someday after all. Or the final version may look good on someone other than a Sylvari.

I’ve found that the Cursed Shore tends to drop plenty of them for me. On a single run-through chopping down trees there I can typically average 4-5 of the Clusters. I spent all day yesterday farming up 24 Clusters. 20 for the pot, 4 for the cooldown timer. Now I’ll take it easy and just farm 4 clusters a day until I’ve got all the plant food I need.

The Mordrem are following the Leylines and seeking out sources of magic. The Brand is probably a major source of magic for Mordremoth. Seems fairly straightforward.

This was honestly my first thought when the sword went into the Mists; it was returning to its rightful bearer. Maybe Rurik will end up coming back to Ascalon to end the curse by the end of all this. Though I’d honestly have preferred it if a living individual ended it. Logan being the best candidate just because it’d go a long way to developing him as a character and fixing his relationship with Rytlock.

Arenanet’s boss, NCSoft wants a “Universal” theme. That’s why we lost a whole lot of content, Cantha included. Koreans think that to have Chinese themes in a false world next to thiers is ‘racist’. I’m tired of the race card being played whenever people don’t like something. It’s getting really old.

Anytime someone plays the “race” card, our ability to become a united human race is stalled.

My charr, asura, sylvari and norn all object to being called “human.” :p

On a more serious note, how exactly is this time gated? Maybe I don’t understand the term, but this item isn’t going anywhere. If you haven’t completed the pieces by the release of The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2, you can do so afterwards. The events in Dry Top will still be here, to get more geodes for the recipes and clay. The ability to craft these items isn’t going away. And the items themselves can even be found again if you replay the chapter. So what if you don’t have the latest item before the next release? It’s not going away. If you really want to complain about something, complain about the fact that these items clog up your inventory space until you grind your crafting up to that level because you haven’t been working on your Huntsman crafting…

By, ‘Time Gated,’ they mean you can’t finish it in one day if you wanted to (which isn’t entirely true since you can buy the mats off the Trading Post). It’s largely in reference to the 24 hour cooldowns on the two plant food recipes for Chef and Huntsman, as you can only make 1 of those a day, and need 7, thus forcing a wait time of 1 week. If you don’t buy the things off the Trading Post, that is.

There’s a lot of work and effort into making it, which appeals to me, but what doesn’t drive me off is that the time and effort is realistic. I’m intending to grind out all the mats rather than buy anything off the TP. I got all the recipes and bricks I’d need Geodes for (glad I never spent any), so now I’m just getting as many Foxfire Clusters as I can. So long as I get 4 a day for the food, I’m happy. If I can get more than four a day, I aim to get the 20 I need for the pot stored away.

It’s much more reasonable and I feel like I can do this at my own pace.

Hrmn… interesting. Sylvari were said to be uncorruptible by the Dragons, but now we have confirmation that Mordremoth can indeed corrupt them. I’m curious as to why. I mean, the obvious answer is that the Sylvari are plants and Mordremoth is the Plant Dragon and then there’s the usual conspiracy theory that the Pale Tree is a Champion of his, etc…

But I wonder if perhaps it has something to do with how powerful he is? Unlike other dragons, Mordremoth’s influence has spread -rapidly- since his awakening. Could the surge of energy through the Leylines have empowered him beyond what the other Dragons have attained?

Anyways, excellent summary so far, and I find the narration pretty nifty. Thanks for sharing!

My guess is Balancing issues and PvP/WvW.

For example, let’s say all Off-Hand items can have their skills swapped. Well, I -love- the look of a shield on a Guardian but I’d be an idiot to use anything but a focus as the Off-Hand as it’s #5 skill is more powerful than Annie’s Hair Curlers. If I could put that skill on my bar while wielding a Shield? I’d be happy, very happy indeed. But it’d probably confuse people in WvW or PvP if I did that.

Not to mention imagine what else I could put there? There would be certain combinations of skills that would ultimately become devastating and imbalanced.

Vexander.9850

I don’t really see how a Charr breaking the Foefire curse means “they couldn’t handle their internal affairs.” It means they handled them better. That’s like saying the Sylvari are weak if they dissolve the Nightmare Court, or that the Humans are weak for actually routing the Centaur presence in their lands.

No one would see a Charr breaking the curse as a bad thing for Charr.

The other races and nations contribute to the War against the Elder Dragons, despite having to deal with various internal issues.

Kryta (Humans) – Centaur and White Mantle/Bandits
Hoelbrak (Norn) – Dredge and Sons of Svanir
The Grove (Sylvari) – Risen and the Nightmare Court
Rata Sum (Asura) – Destroyers and the Inquest

The Charr have been fighting against the Ghosts, and the Flame Legion. For them to suddenly go, “We can’t handle this anymore, it’s too much, we’ve gotta get rid of these Ghosts on Human Terms,” and to undo the curse with the Sword is basically announcing to everyone else they couldn’t handle their internal affairs -and- deal with the Elder Dragons like the other nations.

In short, they’re too weak to cut it.

LS2 Ep 3, Rytlock > Foefire

in Lore

Vexander.9850

Here’s the thing; why -ask- a Human to do it?

From the perspective of the larger picture, for a Human to break the Curse, free the spirits of the people of Ascalon, and essentially end the war, would be the -second- major gesture by Humanity that they’re seeking peace with the Charr. It would be a -massive- benefit to the treaty negotiations, which are still on-going. It’s not the Charr being unable to fix it themselves. It’s proof the Charr were strong enough to last through the curse of Adelbern.

If a human breaks the Curse, there is no question of whether or not the Charr are, ‘Strong Enough,’ to outlast the Curse or handle other threats. If a Charr breaks the curse, it’ll forever be seen as, ‘They couldn’t handle their internal affairs as well as external ones like the other races can.’

LS2 Ep 3, Rytlock > Foefire

Vexander.9850

A Charr lifting a human curse is anything but Charr “admitting defeat” but more the opposite. The Charr should not be the ones to lift the curse – it’s a human responsibility.

For me, that’s what I love about it. I think that’s exactly the point. It’s believed to be a “human responsibility”, a charr is practically spitting on that prophecy in attempting to do so.

And in the process it denounces 250 years of growing culture and society for the charr, and further dilutes the little lore humans have left from the original game. Why do that when both races can have their lore and stories in-tact?

LS2 Ep 3, Rytlock > Foefire

I just find Rytlock even -trying- to end the curse at this point to be incredibly detrimental to the Charr Race’s history and story. It’s practically admitting defeat. “We can’t do this our way. We’ll do it the Human and Flame Legion Way.”

I’d argue the treaty between humans and charr did the same thing. Removing this curse by any means necessary, be it through Charr or Human standards wouldn’t save their old traditions. But change does happen and it affects every one involved.

The Treaty with the humans is hardly admitting defeat. Indeed, since it was Jennah, I believe, who initiated the treaty in the first place, it’s more like the Charr achieved victory. Just seems to me that this is not the way for the Charr to end the Curse of Ascalon. It spits on 250 years.

In fact, it was always my personal headcanon that he refused to even -try- to end the curse with Sohothin for exactly that reason.

I agree, I thought the same. But desperate times can inspire desperate measures.

There are better ways to go about it than to spit on 250 years of effort. Make it more Charr! Why can’t, say, the Charr have won their war against the Flame Legion? Forced the Flame Legion to submit and rejoin Charr Society. If that were the case, breaking the curse by magic would be a way for the Flame Legion to prove itself to the other three Legions.

I just find Rytlock even -trying- to end the curse at this point to be incredibly detrimental to the Charr Race’s history and story. It’s practically admitting defeat. “We can’t do this our way. We’ll do it the Human and Flame Legion Way.”

For a Charr to solve Charr problems with -magic- is just… I honestly can’t tell you how insulting it is. It’s practically going, “HEY, THOSE FLAME LEGION GUYS WERE RIGHT, MAGIC IS BETTER!”

Yeah but to that same token, magic isn’t a new a concept to the Charr. While you can say that they disassociated themselves from the Flame Legion, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve abadoned magic as a practice entirely – just the religion that the Flame Legion adhere to.

See, the thing is, Magic may not be new to the Charr, but for the past 250 years the three Legions of the Charr have actively scorned it. In the character creation, having a, ‘Sorcerous Shaman,’ as a Sire is practically the lowest of the low for a charr, worse than having an Honorless Gladium. Rytlock ending the curse with magikittenerally spits on 250 years of efforts by the Iron, Blood, and Ash Legions. In fact, it was always my personal headcanon that he refused to even -try- to end the curse with Sohothin for exactly that reason.

The swords were made in Orr by humans for humans there is no reason why the curse would break for a Charr.

Sure there is. To further move GW2 away from being Human-centric like the original game was, as GW2, unlike the original game, has many more playable races.

i can’t tell if this is a legit (stupid) comment, or a snarky (stupid) comment on ANet shifting away from “humans did everything”.

A little bit of both to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t find this nearly as offensive and detrimental to the Charr as a lot of what Blizzard does to it’s playable races. However, by the same token, I’d much rather see the Charr handle matters in their own ways, rather than in human ways. If after 250 years of fighting against the Ghosts of Ascalon, of paying for every -inch- of land gained with blood, sweat, and countless lives, it was all undone by -magic-, BY A RENOWNED CHARR HERO NO LESS, well, that just kind of shoves a gigantic middle finger into the face of the Charr race and its efforts for over two centuries.

Now, if a Human lifted the curse with the Sword? Fine. That’s how humans do things. If the Ash Legion’s network of spies and informants had uncovered the, ‘Rightful King of Ascalon,’ in the modern day and forced him to break the curse with the sword, even better. For a Charr to solve Charr problems with -magic- is just… I honestly can’t tell you how insulting it is. It’s practically going, “HEY, THOSE FLAME LEGION GUYS WERE RIGHT, MAGIC IS BETTER!”

Character development is central to the act of storytelling.

So is Character Development central to the setting from which a story is told. If you bring in characters with backgrounds, personalities, and so forth that are weak, the level of development necessary to make them acceptable becomes higher. The more development time sunk into such characters to bring them to an -acceptable- level detracts from development time that could be sunk into additional characters.

In short, when you introduce characters like the 5 we have (I don’t want to count Taimi, but just for the sake of the discussion I will), the fact they overshadow all other characters, including the all-important player-character, causes player angst against these characters. No one wants to see the same 5 characters getting developed, over and over again, for several years, just so they can be, -acceptable-.

Players want characters who don’t need a -ton- of development, so that other characters -can- be developed. There is so much wrong with the biconics at this point that virtually every living story session, they dominate it with their personal lives and emotional baggage. This causes players to hate them.

[Suggestion]: Gemstore Skin Packs

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vexander.9850

Vexander.9850

The title kind of says it all, but I’ll try to explain it a little further. Why not add a new kind of, Bundle Item to the Gemstore that allows players to buy, essentially, Skin Packs, for Gems? These could work in one of several ways.

Theme Packs: A theme pack is essentially a bundle of skins based around a specific theme. For example, let’s say you have a, ‘Durmand Priory Armor Pack.’ Buying that unlocks all Light, Heavy, and Medium armor skins in the account’s Wardrobe. A similar Weapon Pack option could be made available to unlock Priory Weapons.

Lottery Pack: A lottery pack would be a random selection of 10 weapon and/or armor skins to be unlocked in the account’s wardrobe. These could be anything from white-vendor bought skins, to ascended skins. In the case of getting a skin the player already has, give the player a free Black Lion Weapon Ticket Scrap.

Specific Pack: A specific pack would aim at a specific armor slot. For example, a One-Hand Sword pack, a Hammer Pack, or even a Back Item Pack. These, like the Lottery Pack, are randomly selected, though will give you 3 skins rather than 10, and like the Lottery Pack, will give the player a free Black Lion Weapon Ticket Scrap for getting a skin they already have.

Rarity Pack: A rarity pack would select a number of skins depending upon the rarity of the pack. For example, if you select a, ‘Fine Pack,’ you’d get 10 Fine-Quality skins. Masterwork would yield 7, Rare 5, Exotic 3, Ascended 1. There would be no Legendary pack. Like the Lottery Pack, the player gets a free Black Lion Weapon Ticket Scrap for getting a skin they already have.

Select-a-Pack: A select-a-pack allows the players to pick any 3 unobtained skins in their wardrobe, and obtain them.

In general any of the packs would probably cost anywhere between 1,000-1,500 Gems. Seems like it’d be a decent alternative to offering players a chance to get certain skins. Naturally some skins would have to be made unavailable, such as PvP/WvW/Living Story exclusive skins (Spinal Blades, Tribal Armor, etc…)

Megaserver works fine for me. I do Tequatl and pretty much get -all- my dailies done in the process with the actually ability to succeed.

how does one reason asking Anet to make these items purchasable?

It’s a bit like being told in order to play Luigi or Toad or unlock extra levels in the latest Mario game, you have to first beat Sonic Colors. GW1 and GW2 are so different in terms of gameplay and such that they’re completely different games. At their core they’re still RPGs, but they’re still quite different.

Tried looking up guides on different classes and stuff for solo gameplay and just never managed to enjoy myself.

It’s not a game you play solo. That’s why the henchmen are always there.

I’m sorry, I didn’t explain that very well. I understood about Henchmen and I even went to Eye of the North as soon as possible so I get could a lot of good, strong, free Heroes as well for the other missions. By solo, I meant without other players, because I didn’t know anyone who played, and there weren’t a whole lot of people out there. To this day I’d still like to go back and do more stuff for the Hall of Monuments. I simply cannot get myself to actually commit to it. I have 6 Hall of Monument Points right now. Without like, a party of 5 dedicated people, I just doubt I could get a whole lot more.

Please don't kill off Trahearne

in Living World

I’d rather we lost Trahearne than Queen Jennah or the Pale Tree to be honest. Supposedly, a major World Leader is going to die this season according to various rumors. Lots of people are thinking Queen Jennah. Others are speculating the Pale Tree -is- Mordremoth’s Champion, like Glint was for Kralkatorrik, and that the Pale Tree is going to sacrifice herself to weaken Mordremoth so he can be killed.

If given a choice between the three characters (Queen Jennah, the Pale Tree, and Trahearne), I would pick Trahearne every time. The other two are -far- too important to lose. There are replacements for Trahearne, and even if there aren’t, in this Living Story it seems like we’re uniting the 5 Nations against the Elder Dragons now. Compare that to the three Orders, and I’d find the Pact to be woefully inferior.
