Very true, wish I could give a date of when. But it’ll be a while, they could come out with different colored ones too before expansion for all we know.

Or maybe they’ll make it possible to dye back items and weapons. I’d love that.

Finally saw those today (Been a busy week). For a moment I thought someone was wearing them with an outfit, and I thought, “Nice, a new outfit!” Went to the Gemstore, and found nothing. Did a search of the wiki and found nothing either. Finally I just looked up, “Black Wings,” and there they are; a backpack item. I was even happier. I drew forth my credit card, prepared to sink whatever I needed to get the gems to purchase this, and then when I look for it on the gem store-

It’s gone.

Any chance we could get a heads-up of when those will be available again? I worked a 9-9 shift on the day those were available, and it takes me an hour to get to work, and an hour to get home. I literally did not get a chance to even realize these were available, much less purchase them. I’d be quite irate if I had to wait months and months for another attempt.

I understand and appreciate these were meant to be a quick thing, a bit of an early access to neat things in the future, but 24 hours is far too short a time frame, especially on a weekday.

Vexander.9850

I’d love to see them have a few utilities to summon demons or other denizens of the Mists to fight alongside them. I know this is a blatant rip off of Necromancers, but whereas a Necromancer stands back while his/her minions do the fighting, a Revenant is set up to lead their minions into battle.

As for how the F1-F5 skills work, I’d kind of hope that would be the method Revenants channel dead heroes, and that they could customize that bar. They could work as a kind of variant on Elementalist attunements where, instead of changing what skills you have access to with weapons, you gain a set of buffs and maybe a special F1 kind of semi-ultimate attack or move.

I’m really hoping we’ll see Lord Odran as one of the dead heroes we can channel the power of. Odran feels like he’d be the poster-boy for this profession by human standards, being the first person to gain access to the Mists.

Revenant: ie - pro-necromancer

Vexander.9850

From what I’ve been able to discern, while Necromancers are concerned primarily with summoning the dead or, more directly debuffing foes with dark powers, the emphasis of the Revenant is not on summoning ancestral heroes as minions, but rather as a form of self-empowerment or as a powerful attack. This would make them more similar to the Dervish or Guardian in function, despite their similarities to Ritualists.

I hope they maintain a similarity to Ritualists to be honest. I’d love to have a minion master class and build where the character can actually lead his minions into battle. As a necro I usually just stand back and let the minions do the fighting for me.

Former, “Glory,” is a bit of a misnomer. Everytime I went to LA I cringed over the splinters and tetnis shots my character would need after they finished being there. I don’t suppose it’d simply be possible to get a new and improved LA? Now seems like the time to do it.

Do you think HoT will update Orr?

if any updates to Orr occur it will only happen through the living World, HoT is all about our journey through Maguuma.

Having said that, its only been 2 years ingame time since the death of Zaitan. It will take a while for there to be visible signs of healing.

For you it’s been 2 years. For new players it hasn’t happened yet. Orr should be left alone so that new players can go in and see it the way it’s supposed to be for them.

Soon enough the level 80s who are done with the old maps will be in the new expansion playing. At that point, does anyone think they will really care if Orr is cleansed or not?

There isn’t any reason new Maps in Orr cannot be opened up. As we get further into Maguuma, we seem to be coming across more and more lines of story that connect back to Orr.

I’d honestly like to see some new weapons for a change. Expanding the available weapons to classes feels like a good thing, but it’d be nice to see some Class Specific type weapons, or new weapons in general.

Spellbook - There is already a decent animation for this thanks to the Guardian Elites.

Ioun Stones - You never see these in a lot of Video Games, which is a shame as they’re amazing, and I could see something like this being a Mesmer Signature Weapon easily.

Scythes - Necromancers comes to mind when I think of this, even though I know it’s more traditionally a Dervish weapon.

Spear - I know we have an underwater version in the Harpoon, but the land version feels long overdue.

Whip - Another weapon you don’t really get to see in a lot of games it feels like.

I’d just take it as further proof that in the Guild Wars universe, Men are Evil, and Women are Good, Pure, and Innocent. Most of the good, honorable, just leaders are women after all. Pale Tree, Jennah, etc… So many heroes have been women fighting against men, like Jora. Even on the higher planes women hold more positions, than men, and in better light.

Dwayna – Goddess of Healing, Leader of the Six. Healing is so nice.
Melandru – Goddess of Nature. Nature is how we live and survive. How kind of her.
Lyssa – Goddess of Illusion. In her story we see how she uses Illusion to teach others, and reward those who are kind.
Kormir – Goddess of Truth. Truth is a good thing, a mark of an honorable individual, and her ascension to power came when the evil male god of lies was defeated no less.

Compare the four above to:

Balthazar – God of War. War is bad. War kills people, destroys homes and families…
Grenth – God of Death. Death is bad. No one wants to die. It’s scary.

Achievement Point Chests Need Love

Unfortunately, “Something COOL” needs to reward LW, seasonal events, dungeons, the new raids, and virtually every other aspect of playing the game, as well as be sold in the gem store. GW2 rewards skins in all of these, yet we’re told that armor skins are not easy to produce. Something has to give.

Unfortunately, MMO’s generally reward via power, skins, or both combined. It’s too bad no one has thought of a fourth option.

How about new skills? They’ve kind of worked that into the events already, but I’m talking about things like the Antitoxin Spray. We haven’t really gotten new skills that relate to the Living Sword. Imagine if players could get, for example, the ability to purchase the Crystal Aspect Powers as Utility Skills? No cooldowns, no charges, etc… It’d be something fun to reward players with.

Of course what the game really could use would be Player/Guild Housing. Achievements, Events, Dungeons, etc… could then reward furnishings and such for these. I’m hoping when Lion’s Arch is fully rebuilt that there will be an instanced area for player/guild housing.

My personal first order of business would be to rally the troops (boy those workers are slow!) to repair this icon. It just makes me so sad.

That statue just always gets destroyed. They need to stop using cheap materials. But yeah, I’m really hoping we’ll see Lion’s Arch come back as something impressive rather than Shipwreck land. I’m sure splinters and tetanus had their charm, but Lion’s Arch always felt the least impressive of any of the six cities to me. It has a lot of space that never really got any use. That was nice in its own way, but I never liked sticking to one tiny segment of the city when there was so much more to it. Spreading out things like craft stations, the bank, and trading post isn’t a good way to remedy that. Just annoys players. The loss of the Waypoint at the Fort is -really- annoying to be honest. That has the most convenient setup to date.

Vexander.9850

I’m enormously fond of Lion’s Arch, and I dream of the day when it’s back to its former glory. I guess if you look at this in realistic terms, suffish and Stramatus are right: If it’s going to happen, the process would take time. After all, Rome wasn’t (re)built in a day.

I see more workers these days, and hey, CrimeDog, that’s one big rock!

Well, we’re a few months off from it being a year since Lion’s Arch was attacked (January I believe), and the progress so far seems rather minimal. My own personal hope is to see Lion’s Arch improved from what it was. Previously it was a ruined city of repurposed shipwrecks. Now that its been destroyed, I’d hope the Captain’s Council would decide to take the opportunity to improve the city. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing racially inspired districts.

It’s also a fantastic opportunity for Guild/Player Housing to make it’s entrance into GW2. Players/Guilds can have an instanced area in Lion’s Arch, a blank slate which they can build up in whatever way they like.

Sadly a lot of the classes we’d like to see just wouldn’t fit anymore.

Paragon got rolled into Guardian.
Dervish is pretty much Elementalist when you think about it.
Ritualist got spread around a bit, with Guardian having some similar skills.

Some new Professions would be nice and a welcome change of pace, but it’s hard to implement any when you realize that the current line-up is fairly complete, each one unique. If we did get a new profession I imagine it’d be for a Heavy Armor Profession, since there are only 2 of those, and 3 of Medium and Light. Just what a Heavy Armor Profession could be with its own unique skillsets that still mesh into the Guild Wars lore is anyone’s guess.

I think the issue here is that A.net didn’t really avoid the mistakes they made with Trahearne. They’re unfortunately unable to do so due to limitations. We need to see our characters become more prominent in the story, but due to a lack of availability for the voice actors, that becomes a significant problem. We’re relegated to text while the DE 2.0 has actual voice-acted dialogue.

That said, there are significant problems with the characters themselves. They’re more often than not drab, flat, a poorly concocted mixture of character elements, or blatant fan service. The only member of this group I actually see as a character is Taimi, and to be honest, first impressions last. A.net has done a significant job making the characters seem more like characters, but I think they’ve been ruined, not just for me, but for a large portion of the playerbase.

It may be time to retire a number of them to minor roles in the Living Story and bring in a fresh cast that is not only more worthy of working alongside the Commander of the Pact who’s had experience bringing down multiple dragons, but who also have more to their stories than a handful of character flaws or character traits meant either for the shock value or to push some kind of agenda.

What’s more, we certainly need one member of -each- of the playable races in this group, not two of some, zero of another.

As I did in the thread in the Lore section, my post was to get people thinking a little deeper than just Abaddon, as in location, perhaps, meaning, etc. It’s quite possible, say 99% that it is Abaddon’s statue…in a forgotten temple in the middle of the Maguuma Jungle, hidden for centuries.

Good point, looks like a Statue to me. Still, it’d be interesting to see him come back in some form or another. What GW2 has been sorely lacking is a proper connection to the original game, mostly because Anet has distanced GW2 from such lore as the Six, or the other continents like Cantha. I get that they don’t want GW2 to be as Human-Centric as the original game was, but at the same time, that’s no reason to exclude the original lore. It feels like these are two separate games with very little to connect them.

The asura got displaced by a dragon.
The norn got displaced by a dragon.
The charr got corrupted by a dragon.
The human dead got corrupted by a dragon in orr but even in death human ghosts still fight on against the charr.

This just says, ‘Krytan humans are lucky, and humans in general are stronger in death than they are in life.’

I maintain it’s Arena.net’s separation of the Six Gods from the Storyline which is causing Humans to appear weaker than other races, and there is absolutely no need for it. Humanity simply needs to rise up without them, but maintain it’s deep connection to them.

Are the humans too weak ?

in Human

Posted by: Vexander.9850

Vexander.9850

We only have Kryta left. The Charr has Ascalon and Blood Legion homelands. I think things go on pretty well on blood legion homelands that they send reinforcements for Ascalon. The Charr are stronger than us, more intelligent than us ( I didn’t see a human making any kind of machine ) and probably more agile-ish than us ( Ash legion for the win ).
The Asura are obviously much more intelligent than us.
I think a group of Norn could destroy an entire Seraph squad.
The Sylvari are also weak-ish but they have very strong magic compared to humans.

Well, humans have nothing at all, not as strong as the norn or charr, not as intelligent as the asura, not magical as the sylvari.

I am not an expert on lore but this is 90% right I guess. we’re too weak

1) We don’t only have Kryta left. There is still Elona, and Cantha. Although we do not know the state of either of them, they’re still there, and still major power houses of humanity. There’s also Ebonhawk.

2) Humans have developed technology as well as the Charr. Remember the Watchwork Knights which Scarlet Hijacked? Created by human Engineers, and we saw how effective they were by being forced to fight them.

3) Asura are more intelligent than everyone. However, Intelligent doesn’t translate to common sense, and even more rarely does it translate to Wisdom.

4) Its unlikely you’ll ever find a -group- of Norn, so that’s good for the Seraph Squads. That said they do very well against the Centaur and Bandits out there.

5) Humans have superior magic, in my opinion. The Strength of the Sylvari comes in the shared memories and experiences in the Dream, and their inability to be corrupted by Dragons (excepting Mordremoth, it seems).

The reason humans -seem- weak is that Arena.net focused on developing the other races over Humans. Humanity was the one and only playable race of the original Guild Wars, after all. The other races desperately needed to have strengths to stand in the current setting. That said, there is one other reason humanity is easily perceivable as weaker than the other races.

The Gods are Gone.

By that I don’t mean to say that Humanity needs to have its hand held by the deities. Under no circumstances do we need Dwayna, Grenth, Lyssa, Kormir, Balthazar and Melandru standing in Jennah’s Throne-room. But by the same token, the Gods are -severely- downplayed in the story. They’re supposed to be a major facet of human culture. They’ve been relegated to things like Zodiac Signs/Fortune-Teller tidbits, as the question in Character Creation for humans pretty much makes evident. “Ah, you’re lovely, you must be favored by Lyssa!” That sort of thing.

What Humanity needs in order to be perceived on an equal level with the other races is a formalized religion with specific figureheads. Right now we just have a handful of Priests who we may or may not see in the Persona; Story. However, as we go through Orr, we see these powerful High Priests of the Gods, named lore figures who were their champions. The Gods may be gone, but that doesn’t prevent Humanity from changing the rules of their faith and continuing on with it more as a philosophy and less as a religion, with various Champions who could play a significant role.

I’d honestly rather we fought Mordrem alongside some Warrior Champion of Balthazar than Marjory and Kasmeer any day.

To all the people saying the Sylvari story would have to be redone and the Pale Tree can’t die because there can’t be more NPCs, I have to say, you’re not looking at the game properly. The Personal Story occurs in 1325 AE. We’re in year 1327 AE right now. So if the Pale Tree succumbs to her injuries (and since her roots were attacked I’m not hopeful for her survival), nothing needs to change for the Sylvari Personal Story, and more Sylvari PCs can be made. More Sylvari NPCs and characters can be pulled out as the story is needed, because there is already an undetermined number of Sylvari out there.

Gotta admit, Anise and Canach’s cameos through the entire chapter of the Living Story were deeply intriguing. I found myself more interested in them than anything else. The first part of the chapter with the party felt like Anet trying to give Human Players a chance to serve their nation as well, like the other races’ players got in the previous chapter (I know the Sylvari didn’t, but a meeting with the Pale Tree is just as good). The second and third parts with Taimi I found refreshing in the sense that it reminded us that Taimi is indeed a child and can be quite irrational -and- vulnerable. I also liked that we weren’t given a choice but to agree with Phlunt. I know our characters are supposed to be infallible and such, but having no choice but to do as he wanted felt like a step towards making the world feel more real. We can’t always get what we want.

As for the Summit and such, I rather enjoyed it. It was a treat to see all the Charr salute when Smodur appeared. Small gestures like that tend to go a long way, and it made me smile. Being the speaker at the Summit felt a little odd to me, but I went with it. Somehow the setup was a little too informal. I felt like a kid in a tree house speaking to other kids about pretend armies and kingdoms.

But that fight… wow! Evacuating the World Leaders was a brief prelude to something far greater. For a while now I can’t say I’ve been feeling all that heroic. The biconics hanging around have left me feeling more like a babysitter than the Commander of the Pact. With the emphasis returning to being the Commander of the Pact, rather than, “That guy who took down Scarlet with 5 mooks,” it felt -great- to be able to re-affirm that I am, indeed, the Commander. I single-handedly drove a Dragon away from the Summit. No one else helping.

If anything could have helped brace me for another six months of hand-holding and baby-sitting, it was putting my money where my mouth was by driving off that dragon by myself. Shows that our characters are more than talk; we’re the real deal.

So my options are to try and convince Taimi, a genius with a bright and promising future, to give up a recently built device that will no doubt look like child’s play when she is an adult and making truly amazing things, so that I can get a Councillor of the Asuran leadership to attend a summit with the purpose of saving the world…

Or I can tell Taimi to keep her invention, tell Plunt to go grease his own wheels, risk the summit, and probably kitten the world to destruction, ensuring Taimi will never become an adult and never surpass what she’s done to this point?

I’m sorry. My character, being a rational adult, would try to convince Taimi to give it up. There is a big picture here. Taimi’s got a long life ahead of her to do better than the measly work Phlunt is going to steal now.

That’s just the thing though… you have no options at all. The character is written 100% for you in this and if you don’t like its personality, then tough stuff.

I mean, it wouldn’t be hard to add another dialogue option that leads to the same quest conclusion – just with you having the ability to talk a little more aggressively if you so desire.

Besides, I don’t play video games to roleplay being an adult. I can do that for real in my life.

Maybe I wouldn’t mind having a dialogue option to talk more aggressively if the situations were reversed. However, Phlunt has something I don’t have; a seat on the Arcane Council. What do I have that he wants? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. By Asuran law Taimi’s invention is technically his to take custody of. I can’t really fight that, and doing so just works further -against- my goal.

The reality of the situations is, it sucked, but that quality of sucking, helps make Tyria feel alive and real. An aggressive option or one leading to Taimi keeping her work but us getting the same end, would just make me feel like Tyria is very fake, and my character is infallible. I know that, technically, we’re infallible as is. However, no-win situations like this help mitigate that. It shows the PC isn’t a god amongst men who always gets his or her way.
