Anet has heard you and are solving the issue by introducing new tiers of Essence of Luck -> Ascended & Legendary. /sarcasm
Reducing the clicks needed but not ‘quite’ what players had in mind.

Would be nice to have a “use/buy all” option and I still hope they consider it for the future. Thanks for the quick tip about using the mouse wheel.

I honestly can’t imagine why they haven’t implemented an ability to buy items from vendors in stacks the players set, and why they haven’t added a, “Use All,” option either. Neither should be all that difficult to code.

To be honest, dungeons weren’t the first thing on my mind, mostly just Personal Story and Living Story. That said, I don’t see why Mercs/Heroes couldn’t work for Storymode Dungeons. I mean, getting people to run Storymode Dungeons is hard to near-impossible these days. Being able to unlock Explorer Mode by doing the Storymode alone, with Heroes/Mercs, feels like a good way to resolve that issue, and open up dungeons to more players.

Maybe if you outfitted Heroes in Ascended gear and bought them tons of upgrades through the Gem Store (+Power or +Toughness to Heroes, etc… to a cap), then you could just barely manage to do Explorer Mode stuff, but I think players should still do dungeons together. Maybe even reduce the rewards for doing dungeons with Heroes/Mercs to make player-dungeon runs more lucrative.

May as well reply to this thread for the kicks and giggles. My humans then…

Leo Crowngarde - Human, Male, Noble, Guardian. Of mixed Ascalonian and Krytan Heritage.

The Crowngardes were a noble family in Ascalon Pre-Searing that followed a strict set of moral and national guidelines, such as not getting involved in politics, but instead serving King, Country, and the People, often in that order. The Patriarch of the Family always had final say. As per the Searing, only three siblings remained; Kain Crowngarde (eldest son, thus the new Patriarch), Ash Crowngarde (second born son), and Adele Crowngarde (daughter). While Kain adamantly backed King Adelburn, Ash backed Rurik. Tradition was broken for the first time in family history when Ash turned his back on his brother to join Rurik. Adele, unable to witness her siblings fighting so much, simply left, neither knowing where she went.

Ash Crowngarde made it to Kryta and eventually, after getting over depression due to the loss of Rurik, fell in love with a Krytan noble woman, and thus the Krytan Crowngardes came to be. Adele Crowngarde eventually resurfaced in Ebonhawk, had several marriages, many children, and only informed a few of their heritage, and only on her deathbed. There are many Crowngardes in present-day Ebonhawk who don’t even know they are such.

As for Kain Crowngarde, he stayed by Adelburn’s side until the Foefire, and he continues to fight the charr to this day. (I’d always intended to make something of a RP storyline with him coming across Leo and regaining memories and control of himself to go on a purge of the Krytan Crowngardes to restore purity and honor to the bloodline, but GW2 isn’t the most RP friendly of environments).

Loremaster Vexander - Human, Male, Commoner, Mesmer. Of primary Canthan heritage with Ascalonian and Krytan blood as well (mother was of pure Canthan descend, father mixed Ascalonian and Krytan).

A member of a little known clan of Mages, Vexander chose to be a Mesmer at a young age and relinquished his true name (Shu), for the name, ‘Vexander.’ His goal was to create someone immortal in the process, for when he died, anyone could pick up the name and mantle of, ‘Vexander,’ and continue that life. Sort of the ultimate metaphysical mesmer tribute.

For the most part, being a gentleman and a scholar, Vexander doesn’t focus on his lineage or heritage so much on what he can learn and how he can put it into action. He’s brilliant, but lazy, preferring to smell the roses and give others hints or instructions to do what needs to be done while he himself simply reads a good book with a glass of wine nearby.

Sorceress Elenie - Human, Female, Commoner, Elementalist. Purely of Ascalonian descent.

Elenie is a woman obsessed with magic to the point she would do anything to acquire more knowledge of magic, or magical artifacts. For a time she ran a store in Lion’s Arch that focused on selling magical goods, knowledge, and services, mostly to support her obsession. Her heritage meant nothing to her, and if she had been given Ascalon and a charr offered her a partially burnt scroll of a spell in exchange for it, she’d take the scroll every time in a heartbeat and without any second thoughts, nor any regrets. She’s associated with Charr before to go exploring ancient ruins and such in search of magical knowledge and power.

In the common day, she disappeared in the Mists. However, those who looked for her believe she’s discovered some secret that has allowed her to make contact with the various versions of herself from different Tyria’s, and to pool together their knowledge and power into a greater being in the Mist, known as, ‘The Sorceress.’ The cost of this feat is that she can never return to Tyria without losing all that power and knowledge, though she supposedly can send mesmeric illusions of herself given flesh and blood with necromantic magic back there, though of course never more powerful than she was when she first left.

Anyone who played the original Guild Wars will no doubt know what I’m talking about. For those who didn’t, or didn’t play much of it, I’ll try to explain.

In the original Guild Wars, you could fill your party with a number of NPCs who’d fight alongside you. In later expansions, you could get, ‘Heroes,’ which were more customizable and powerful than the, ‘Mercenaries,’ you started with. This gave you a nice, wide selection of NPCs with which you could make a diverse party and go anywhere with.

To the point of this topic, I think this could work well with GW2 in the case of Living Story, and Personal Story. Imagine, for example, being able to add Rytlock, or Logan to your party while you’re doing your Living Story. Better yet, imagine adding characters like, say, Hobo-Tron (I would put him in my party -every- time), or Lord Faren, or any of the Charr player’s warband members. Just seems to me like it’d be a nice way to diversify the gameplay element for players. Granted I understand you can’t replace the main five NPCs in the Living Story due to their necessity in it (Marjory, Kasmeer, Taimi, Rox, and Braham), but even then there were some episodes in the recent Living Story where some characters sat on the sidelines.

So, there’s my suggestion. Allow players to bring along maybe 1-3 NPCs they’ve gained access to from previous interactions. Heck, recruiting NPCs like this could even be a way to help players revisit other Maps and such for a while.

I doubt anyone in the populace would have an issue with their Queen marrying their greatest hero, Logan, member of Destiny’s Edge.

I guess I just don’t see it happening though. There isn’t really enough of a story-driven -need- for it to happen, so if it happened, it’d come off as pointless, or worse; generalization that Jennah, “needs a man.”

Most hats are becoming armor hats. I’m not sure if all of them are, and how they are determining that. But from what I can tell, single items in the Gem Store are turning into Armor pieces for sure.

If anyone is worried about charges then they can try farming for transmutation stones now and convert them when the update comes. Currently stones are pretty much wasted items since few people stay at sub lv 80 for very long with the levelling being so fast in this game.

Yes, you can support with those classes but the problem is that healing power scales so terribly that it usually isn’t worth it. That and the fact that every class has a high self-heal makes healing pointless as people can just heal themselves. That’s another topic altogether though.

Heh, reminds me of the first time I did a dungeon, way back when the game first launched. Caudecus’ Manor, Storymode. Someone in the party went and said to our Guardian, “Heal.” The guy’s response was, “Hit your #6 button, son.”

Well, that’s pretty dumb to be honest. Can’t say I’m happy with this change now. Transmutation costs too much. Heck I’ve got almost 200 Transmute Stones, and I generally use those to update a character’s gear while leveling them so they don’t look like a scrub. I do that every 10 levels. That’d be 60 transmute charges once they get to 80.

I hope Anet changes this somehow or makes acquiring charges -much- easier.

Please don’t use terms that have NOTHING to do with video games to make your language sound more eloquent. It just makes you look stupid and sounds like your trying to build propaganda. Communism style game play…really? Are you sure you are using that term appropriately?

Also the game is fun even without the Holy Trinity. There are plenty of boss mechanics and encounters were you don’t need the Holy Trinity and it is just as difficult without it (Wurm, Teq, Aetherblade fractal, etc). I have no idea why people believe having a rigid class structure makes encounters fun. In WoW it was so freaking boring playing the healer. Don’t get me wrong, I love healing, but none of the encounters I did made the role “fun”, I’d just heal people who got low while everyone else did their own thing. It made dungeons feel boring after a while because no on really ever did anything new or exciting, I’d just use heals, dps would just use their rotations, tank would tank.

So no, the game is not boring without a Holy Trinity. I daresay it’s better without it because I can role any class I want, play how I want without worrying about a “comp” with friends and I like it that way.

Thank you! I laughed so hard at that first paragraph, as I get so tired of seeing words like that which are only used to get people’s attention.

Back to the subject, I know there aren’t TRUE healer classes here, but aren’t water elementalists and guardians kiiiiinda like that? It’s probably a stretch, but they’re good support roles at least, especially the guardian.

Nods I play a Guardian, but playing one as a support role just makes it impossible to do anything on your own. At best I’ll pop that one elite Tome that has the, “Full Heal,” as its #5 skill.

Yup, and I’m still playing. Imagine that, someone who’s willing to try something different and stick with it? I knew going into GW2 there wasn’t a holy trinity. That doesn’t change the fact I enjoy playing a healer, or that one could say I’m being, “forced to play the way someone else wants.”

Shrugs

The game is what it is. Zerg-fests are certainly… different from what I’m used to, and there are other games I can play a Healer in.

Why not find a group of like-minded people and play a support-oriented character?

Mostly because this game doesn’t interest me enough to join a guild or anything. It did at first, mind you. My friend’s list used to show everyone online all the time. Then a few months after the game launched, all my friends were inactive and the guild was dead. Mind you, the reason for that has nothing to do with the Holy Trinity, and more to do with a lack of proper end-game content.

The Holy Trinity promoted teamwork and friendships amongst players. Why? Because you need your tank, you need your healer, and you need your damage dealer. The system we have now? You don’t need anything, just yourself, because you’re a damage dealer with one powerful heal. All the mobs and bosses and dungeons were designed around this.

Maybe some people enjoy the Zerg. It’s not my personal cup of tea, but the game is still good. GW2’s claim to fame will be its amazing graphics and art. Its just a shame Anet isn’t capitalizing on that by adding new permanent zones or anything.

No Holy Trinity = Boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vexander.9850

In terms of PvE, I think the Trinity-less system can work, providing the content in the game encourages players to think out their approach (unlike in the Trinity system, where players are already told ‘you need this, this and this’). This is the main advantage of GW2’s current system; it can potentially offer more depth than a system designed around the Trinity (note the potentially).

I can’t really comment on PvP and WvW, since I don’t really play them to the level as to where I could compare it to other games (although, me and my friends used to roam quite frequently, and because our builds were built around each other to cover out stregnths and weaknesses, we could often take down numbers larger than ours).

In terms of addictiveness, addictiveness doesn’t always equal fun. I find this game fun, and yet I don’t feel the need to play everyday, whereas with WoW, I had to take a step back and ask myself why I was logging in everyday, despite being bored out of my mind. Not to mention everyone finds different things ‘addicting’ or compelling; one person might find healing addicting, another might find a particular game-mode addicting, regardless of how they’re playing it, whereas I personally get the most pleasure out of coming up with builds, testing and tweaking them.

In the end, I don’t think it makes for a weaker game. Unless I get proven wrong, I’ll always believe that the current system can work, and there isn’t inherently anything wrong with it, rather it’s the content not making use of the entirety of it.

No.
Your more or less asking for ppl to play the way you want and not let them have the freedom to chose how they play.

It goes both ways you know. In games I love playing a healer. Can’t do that here.

You shouldn’t have expected to be able to either.

That’s not being rude. It’s just they said right at the beginning, before the game was even in beta, that there’d be no dedicated healers.

The rates of conversion are:

1:1 Crystals (The 79 and lower Transmutes)
3:1 Stones (The 80 Transmutes)
5:1 Splitters

[Edit]: So if you have 100 crystals, 50 stones, and 5 splitters, you’ll end up with 275 Transmutation charges.

100 Crystals = 100 Charges
50 Stones = 150 Charges
5 Splitters = 25 Charges

You have the crystals and stones the wrong way around. Crystals are for level 80 gear and have a conversion rate of 1:1 with suggests that the Stones (being the lesser version) rate of 3:1 is also the opposite way around to what you’ve said. so 50 stones will infact only give you 16 charges.

Where was that said? That contradicts what I’ve seen/read elsewhere…

Did I miss something, or can’t you still earn Transmute Stones (or Charges) via Map Completion? Heck, make an alt and explore the cities, that’s like… 18 charges each time you do it.

You get a stone for exploring a capitol. So… Divinity’s Reach, Rata Sum, Hoelbrok, and The Grove. That’s four stones, which after the update, will convert to 1 1/3 charges per each capitol.. Meaning if you explore all the capitols on four separate characters, you can can the appearance of your entire set of armor. …..Once.

I’d like to be able to switch out my armor 2-5 times a day, all depending on what zone I’m in. This is why I say, an unlimited transmutation generator, for a monthly fee, would be nice.

Yeah, as it stands, I’ll pry just save up and keep 3 different sets of armor in my bags. …But it’s silly to have to do that with such an elegant wardrobe system on the way. ..Or least, a wardrobe system that would be elegant, if not for the ridiculous need for transmutation charges.

Wasn’t aware you got 1/3 a charge for each stone you would have gotten before. That sucks. I’m willing to buy a permanent Transmog charge for 4,000 gems now. Or maybe they’ll add one in the Black Lion chests, like the permanent contracts.

Vexander.9850

I think the issue is that the changes brought to the game’s systems, while major quality of life improvements and such for the players, still aren’t addressing the real problem; there is no end game, at least, not one that requires intense grinding.

When I first started playing, the end-game to me seemed like making a Legendary. A Legendary would become the last thing for my character to do before they were complete. When I saw I’d need stacks of 250 of every Tier 6 mat like blood and dust, on top of having to shell out 10G per ‘Gift,’ recipe I needed, my reaction was, ‘Lolnope!’

That didn’t come off as end game to me. It came off as one of those masochistic challenges for people who seriously enjoyed it. The fact that the Legendaries weren’t even much more powerful than exotics likewise turned me off from it.

Guild Wars 2 -needs- some kind of end-game content. All it has is grinding. The Living Story was a good idea, but it ultimately ended up being… well… temporary. We need permanent content. Especially if it helps with the insane crafting requirements for Ascended and Legendaries.

Will there be an exodus with the update?

Personally I’d rather see personal/guild housing, additional weapon options and utility/elite skills for the professions, crafted precursors, and a few more minor convenience additions (a 20 slot bag shared across all characters, accessible from the inventory).

[Edit]: So if you have 100 crystals, 50 stones, and 5 splitters, you’ll end up with 275 Transmutation charges.

100 Crystals = 100 Charges
50 Stones = 150 Charges
5 Splitters = 25 Charges

New writers. And, preferably, writers who have played Guild Wars 1 on more than a passing occasion.

Sign me up! I’ve played GW1 since 2006, so I know the lore well. I would love to make new LS stories, and I’m not afraid of writing for the Teen market either.

If I were a writer for this game, I would re-focus the story on the PC. IMO, NPCs shouldn’t be getting the spotlight. NPCs also need to be more endearing so we actually care about them (i.e. Taimi).

Then there’s the much-needed cutscenes involving the baddies. I would include those in the LS. Players need to see what the baddies are up to while their characters are being kept in the dark (most of the time).

I would also add more stories involving the Orders. The 3 different organizations have alot of potential for drama.

You know what this made me think of? I’d love to see a part of a Living Story update (permanent) allow your character to relive one of those moments they select as part of the character creation. Like, humans losing their sister, passing up the chance to join the circus, or losing their parents. Or the time an Asura spent in their respective college. Or one of the vents that happens to the Norn (losing an heirloom or getting drunk and such, etc…)

It’d be neat to be able to explore our own characters’ pasts in this manner, just one chapter of it. Let the NPCs with us comment on what they see while this happens. Think of the whole thing as kind of a shared hallucination, perhaps through Mordremoth trying to corrupt the Dream and bring the PC into it regardless of their race, to make them a minion, and not just any minion, but their new Champion. The Biconics/DE Mk. II are there to try and save the player from the corruption.

Inspired by the Patch to make a Legendary?

I’m just curious if I’m the only one. I used to play around with the idea of making a Legendary when the game first came out. I was really leaning towards Bifrost, saving up 100+ unidentified dyes just leveling up. However, I was never happy with the idea that the staff would be stuck to just one character, so I never pursued it.

With the Wardrobe coming, I feel more inspired to try for a Legendary again. This time I’m thinking of going for Sunrise, as my main changed from an Elementalist and a Mesmer to a Guardian and a Warrior. Who knows, may even try for Eternity if I’m feeling particularly masochistic. I’ve never really held more gold than 30 at a time, save for a point I got gems for a holiday and traded those for gold to get the, ‘Golden,’ title and no other reason.

So, I expect this to be a painful journey, but I’m interested in it. Just wondering if anyone else is feeling the desire to go for the long haul. If so, post here, tell us what you’re aiming to make!

I’d like to see the “biconics” scrapped and a fresh and entertaining story written based on a new group of well-designed characters.

Same here to be honest. I like the current cast, but not enough to want to see them return. Well, I’d like to see Taimi return to be honest. She’s great. The rest I wasn’t too thrilled with. Braham seemed interesting at first since he was Eir’s son but… that didn’t really turn into anything more than him having mommy issues. Rox seemed like the stereotypical charr. Marjory was interesting, but a Detective can only really be a main character in a mystery story, and even though the grand finale of the Living Story Season 1 was a mystery, she didn’t really deduce anything. Kasmeer was fine but, I don’t feel like she offered anything to the story. She was just kind of… there until the end where she shown by being kitten, and then had the kiss that sparked an ocean of inflammatory topics on these forums.
