sylvari lore is very similar to fairy lore in our legends, all this nightmare court and the dreaming and the leafs and the winged cultural armor, and all this genderless love, the wylde hunt etc etc. they have nothing in common with elves just as their maker (tolkjen) pictured them, they just happen to like to live in the forest (though elves have buildings while sylvari have seed like buildings provided by their own mother).
Sylvari lore is based on Celtic myths. So it’s not surprising. Sylvari are actually a lot lie the elves in Kingdoms of Amalur.
Tolkien didn’t invent Elves (or Dwarves, or Orcs), he based them on European folklore, including Celtic.
You can stomp people through gates too.
Numbers in T7 are low right now because everyone seems to be playing some 8 bit dungeon in Rata Sum. Even other PVE zones are empty. Every waypoint in Orr is contested.
If T8 attacked during a major PVE event I think they’d crush T7.
I don’t see what that has to do with what I said. VK said that SF have the numbers, but no great skill. But NSP and GoM and HoD have numbers too.
I just can’t see SF dominating T7 like they do in T8. And I doubt that ET or SF are a match for any T7 server.
Maybe it isn’t that system is broken – maybe SF needs to win more convincingly to be worthy of T7.
NSP would give SF more than a run for its money. GoM probably would too. And whichever T7 server went to T8 would be just as bad for T8 as SF is.
I may not know Elves, but I sure knows a troll when I sees one.
Not everything is dragons.
And most players would raise their middle twig at ANet if they were told they race they picked was actually a race of dragon minions.
I’d be interested to hear from any ex SF who moved to T7 recently.
Do they think SF could be a match for any of the T7 servers?
Could they hold their own in prime time, or at night? My own (probably biased) opinion is that SF would get mauled at night against any of the T7 servers, unless they do something about their coverage.
Always check that stability, immunity and stun breakers are off cooldown before climbing onto the lip of a wall.
I really wish they’d fix walls so defenders could shoot straight down. Or give us some rocks to drop. Defence needs buffing.
Until someone blows all 1700 supply in your keep building flame rams to farm wxp.
That is a good point. But what about ordering upgrades? Shouldn’t there be some reward for that?
Don’t even suggest that. People order enough dumb upgrades as it is.
Like when someone orders a tower wall upgrade right after the enemy has taken all the adjacent supply camps and laid down three flame rams.
My hammer warrior pretty much just stands there and… hammers. Most of the rest are quite fluid.
Is there such a thing as Laurel manipulators?
They prefer to be called devs.
It’s really tempting to leave SF in the mess they made.
And what mess are you referring to? Do you mean the one that was already here when we dropped into T8?
THANK YOU ANET FOR RUINING OUR SERVER.
So many transfers we now have queues. I have long been outspoken about people wanting transfers to come to our server when people would post it. We had it rough but we had a good place. I didn’t transfer to kaineg because I didn’t want to be on a huge server.
Son of a kitten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I will have to leave the server I enjoyed to go to a bottom tier 8 server once this one sky rockets up. GAH i’m so mad right now.
What’s the old saying? “Be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it?”
I meant all the dog piling that happened to SF after their first week, which ruined T8. There would be nothing wrong with T8 if SF had remained the same size it was in that first week.
I doubt that queues on ET will last. Probably a bunch of of PVE players who want titles they can displaying while standing around the the TP with their CoF armour and Legendaries.
Or maybe if all the ET and FC join HoD, then SF might swap places with someone in T7 and we’d still be fighting SF in T7 instead of T8.
Atho, if we really wanted to be mean, Et and Fc could just jump to HoD, and shoot them up, and thus leave T8 with 2 dead servers.
It’s tempting. It’s really tempting to leave SF in the mess they made. And with the drama last night and commander talking about leaving.
The real worst case scenario is that ET and FC combine, then the SF players get kittened off enough to leave T8 (to HoD or somewhere) and there is only one server left in T8 with no one to fight.
Or all the ET and FC players decide to join HoD, with pretty much the same effect.
No easy answer to this. I could easily argue that the warrior is the most powerfully OP and the weakest at the same time. Bull Rush + 100blades = massively, ridiculously OP.
BUT! When that’s on cooldown = poop sandwich.
Or if the target dodges. Or just moves a bit. Unless you pin them down with tangling vines or similar, or the target is stupid, or lags out,100 blades is useless.
There is a trinity,
It’s called:
Damage
Control
SupportROFL, oh ok. So that must be why I can AFK any boss in the game outside of fractal lvl 30+ This includes all the world bosses and guild bounties.
No, we need a trinity.
No we don’t. I’d love to see you auto-attack Grenth.
How long has it been since you have seen an FC zerg of more than 15, because its been about a month for me
“Ferg Zerg” is so fun to say that we use it whenever we see more than two FC at the same time.
Less than three FC are just referred to as “Fergies”. Like the princess. The less pretty one.
Here is my ranger with my country colours… (And some ugly octopus on the guild chest)
What bow is that? Looks like the Seraph bow model with gold instead of silver?
ET giving SF their free fully upgraded garrison and Dawn’s when they have 20-30 people in FCBL. Way to prioritize. +1
Edit: Screenshot
This isn’t unusual. It’s the strategy ET has been deploying for awhile, now. And last time I checked, they were beating Ferg for second (which in this tier is kind of like fighting over the participation award while SF hauls off with the first, second, third place medals, and that trip to Disney World, but I digress). So I guess it’s working? Hey, seems silly to a lot of us over in Ferguson, too, but results are results.
I’m surprised anyone even bothers with upgrades these days. We usually just raid the garrison depot for more supply to batter down the next door.
What I’m trying to say is… while you might whine about 35 zerglings, etc etc. Even when in small groups, unless we’re outnumbered heavily it’s rare we lose the battles. If your people are dying regularly then there isn’t enough support to the defending/attacking groups. It’s more of a L2 kitten ue than zerg size tbh.
So, apparently ET players learn to play every night, and then forget again the next morning.
Tell me ET night capping is not about numbers.
The amount of auto attack damage you lose while picking it up and using it just doesn’t seem worth the benefit.
While we wait for our Janthir friends… Gotta level dem alts!
Probably going to need to open up a few more character slots to level up, because it doesn’t look like anyone is getting out of T8 any time soon.
Whoa chill out guys, I was asking where you guys were cause SF started to rain hell on our small group in FC.
Duh, once they cap our BL what do you think will happen?
I love the underwater parts of the game. GW2 is much better underwater than any other game I’ve played.
There are definitely some class balance issues. Rangers and Warriors are great underwater. Some of the best ranger pets are underwater pets. Necromancers are seriously nerfed, all the best skills aren’t useable.
Some of the scale armour looks kind of planty if you dye it green or brown, but that’s heavy armour only.
In T8 there are no queues. You can use WvW as a shortcut to Lions arch and avoid the WP cost.
Player appears at node/chest: right click, open report.
Player disappears again: submit the report.
You only get a second or so to open the form, but once it’s open you can submit even if they disappear again.
Might have something to do with the fact that When Kain left T8, people said the same thing, and Kain beat t7 like a hapless puppie, stomping T7 harder then they ever stomped T8, I mean, I am not sure how T7 deals with the shame of being stomped harder by Kain then T8 was, I am sure they have their stories, on how they justify doing worse then T8, but, lets be real, their vanity on how good they think they are compared to T8 is not founded, never has been, and history has shown it.
Kain stomped T8 much, much harder than SF has ever done, and they continued to gain numbers, including experienced WvWers after they left T8. SF is not Kain, not even close.
Y’all must be new here, ‘cause if you’d been around a while you’d know that the average ET player would rather cut off their left nut with a rusty saw than side with SF.
From what I’ve seen ET spends 80-90% of its time fighting SF. It’s a target rich environment. I hardly ever see a ferg these days, except for the occasional ninja or roamer.
Ferg didn’t drop to third because of a big jump in ET players, they fell to third because one of their biggest WvW guilds left for another tier.
Lastly: you guys used to be cool.
I thought they got rid of chests. I haven’t seen one in weeks.
The level of technology and culture in GW2 is more in keeping with a round-world view than a flat-world view.
In the jungle the mighty jungle the dragon sleeps tonight. >_>
For some reason I now have an image in my head of a bunch of Char singing the chorus line of that song.
I don’t hate him, but I think the character is a hard to like.
He’s too nice. Straight laced, uptight. Not much personality. Kind of a C3PO type character, but not funny. Not a people person either, more a facts and figures kind of guy.
He’s cast initially (if you do the sylvari story) as a wise scholarly type, but he’s only 25. It doesn’t quite work. But it’s not as bad as his transformation into a great leader. That part of the story really doesn’t work at all. I can’t see him in a leadership role, he just doesn’t have the gravitas, the mana, the charisma of a great leader.
Most importantly, I don’t think he’s paid his dues. He comes out of nowhere, with no leadership or military experience, like some MBA grad who happens to be the nephew of the CEO. Actually a lot like that – he’s all theory, no experience, and just happens to be one of the firstborn. I can see why a lot of people would have a problem with that.
He would have been better cast as some sort of head-researcher or senior advisor.
We had nearly all our WvW players in the garrison, but that’s only a small portion of the server.
There are a lot of PVE-only players on ET. It’s not the biggest PVE server, but you still run into overflow sometimes at peak hours. That’s why server mergers aren’t going to happen any time soon.
It was an epic night, and not just the garrison fight. I got 62 badges on my necromancer.
Undead trees and plants sounds pretty silly.
I’m not sure the corrupted Treants are undead, just diseased and/or evil.
Wouldn’t work as SF can cover 2 maps at same time… Karma train is the answer.
Well, ya, but I was more talking about occupying our current resources so we couldn’t move even more people to another map.
We’d need all our numbers to hold one tower, and we’d lose everything else to ninjas, and we’d give up the opportunity to take 3-5 objectives in the same time.
There is not much incentive to defending against a Zerg these days. Better to ninja it back later.
The longbow snare can hold people in place in WvW long enough to get them killed. Especially if they go out on the edge of a wall.
They do this for the same reason that companies but coupons in newspapers – to see how effective advertising is.
And possibly to demonstrate that gamers will complain about anything.
Some people are just so addicted to rare Internet pixels, that they’ll spend all their time, in a game they payed for, avoiding having fun to get them.
Midnight fire is not black, it’s a very dark red colour that looks black on some armour. If you want real black you’ll need Abyss.
In the long term the lack of the trinity makes instances and any other group play boring and shallow to say the least.
People aren’t forced to co operate and work together or strategize like in other mmo’s that we’ve all played in the past.
If you want people to continue playing this game for any length of time you need to bring back the trinity Anet.
In GW2 the outcome of a fight is not decided on a spreadsheet before you even log in.
I just needed an excuse to use that Mr. Bean chemistry episode pic.
Is that a commentary on our dancing skills? My Sylvari dance a lot like Mr Bean.
Removing downed state would favour glass cannon builds with burst damage. There is already too much burst damage in the game.
If you haven’t defeated an opponent, you haven’t defeated them. A downed player has not bean defeated yet. Hit them some more. If you can’t defeat a downed player maybe you shouldn’t have rolled a burst damage spec. If you can’t survive long enough to stomp, you are probably running a glass cannon.
Some classes downed states do need tweaking.
WvW is a no holds barred open season mosh pit of a fight. That goes on for a week. It isn’t meant to be a short term balanced fight. Sometimes you’re outnumber, sometimes you outnumber. You need to learn when to fight and when to run away like a baby quaggan.
Maybe one day ANet will add shorter more balanced fights, like 10 or 20 person battlegrounds. But they need to sort out some of the bugs in WvW first.
The Mesmer apologists would still say its fine if mesmers could fly into another servers spawn start one-shoting players from invisibility. They’d probably be happy if ANet just lined players up outside their spawn and held them down so they could zap them.
Go to area and lo and behold “snow covered object” appears not far from the refugee path…. go to diessa and amazingly “dirt covered object” is also not far from the path….
I found them both with about 5 min of looking for each one. And I didn’t talk to anyone else in-game about it… and I didn’t look it up on the internet either..
Either you got lucky or you’re just trolling, because they can spawn a long long way from the refugee path.
All you need to know is that they spawn in the general area around invasion dynamic events. Those are easy to find, so just look around the area for sparkles.
The one I found in wayfarer foothills was at least a couple of thousand yards away from the nearest DE and hidden amongst some trees. The one I found in DP was much closer to the DE and lying in plain sight.
