[Suggestion] Server Merge for low pop servers

They could merge the WvW populations of the bottom three servers into the next three servers without creating queue issues.

Server loyalty is a thing, but if it was such a big deal, then the majority if WvW players wouldn’t have left those servers already.

The players have already voted with their feet, and the game needs to move on too.

Agree. Once you have another 80 you need a lot of laurels to gear them up, you don’t want to have spent them all getting there.

I had the same problem: are u playing in a 64bit operating system? I solved moving from a 32bit version to a 64bit version and upgrading TS client…

I think its a massive ram consuming process in GW2 that creates the problem we have. but really i solved my problem, so i didnt work on it after that.

Mine is 64 bit and it still crashed. Its not a RAM issue – I have 8 gig and the 32bit GW2 client can’t use more than half that.

It doesn’t seem to be a network issue either.

Spirits?

Wanderer.3248

In Greek mythology daemons could be good (eudaemons) or evil (cacodaemons). The Greeks believed that they could possess people and guide them to do good or evil.

Because of Christian belief that anything magical that wasn’t God must be evil, western culture has come to view all daemons and other supernatural beings as necessarily evil.

In the bible a daemon could possess people (or many at once, as in the host of devils that called itself legion).

Since Tyrian culture isnt monotheistic, it’s unlikely that they’d have the same view of daemons as being only evil.

Greek daemons were said to inhabit “chaos”, the void between heaven and earth (sounds a bit like the mists). In the bible they were evil spirits that came from the pit; hell.

Its also not uncommon for spirits in myths and stories to have a physical form in the next world, but only be able to enter the real world by possession. Alternately, some spirits could take on a form in the real world that was different from their ‘natural’ form on the other side.

Jinn for example have a natural form of fire, but according to legend can appear to humans as dragons or men, and can possess people.

However, I think that the current worlds and matches need a shake-up. Because balanced matches are also important. It should be possible to merge some of the players from some lower ranked servers for some matches.

Do Sylvari actually have sexuality?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Mother Nature has created plants so they HAVE genders. I don’t understand, why Sylvari should be different. YET IT MEANS NOT YOU SHOULD USE IT YOU FILTHY…

Not sure if trolling.

Anyway, most plants aren’t gendered like animals are. Many plants have both genders, and many species can reproduce both sexually and asexually. In flowering plants it’s even more complicated, because the pollen is actually a separate plant that contains a small reproductive package.

Some plants can even pollinate themselves.

Actually, even some animals (insects, sharks, boa constrictors) have been known to reproduce asexually.

Gender isn’t as “natural” as you might think.

What does Laurel Symbol mean?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

The laurel wreath was also used to crown victorious Roman generals, including Julius Caesar, in a ceremonial parade known as the triumph. Later, the Roman emperors reserved both the wreath and the triumph for their own use, and their crowns were shaped like laurel wreaths.

It is still used figuratively as a title – for example “Poet Laureate”.

If there’s something that makes even less sense than server pride it’s pride in a local sports team. At least with your server you can affect the outcome.

Plants with vibrant colors can easily be very deadly. If you’ve seen the movie Jamanji then you’d know. :P

For all we know they could be more earth-like than plant-like, since subject Alpha uses an earth based attack in CoE. It depends if Mordremoth is a Jungle dragon or more of a generic Nature dragon. Hypothetically, we could even see water based minions. I’d expect earth and water abilities as well.

  2. See my earlier post

It’s not a minion of Zhaitan, it’s a dream of Zhaitan. It’s not connected to or controlled by any dragon. It doesn’t look like Zhaitan because it’s just a dream.

Everything in that part of the dream is plants, and probably because the dreamer has never seen a risen dragon (or any dragon) the dreamt dragon looks plant like.

We don’t know what the Nightmare really is. We haven’t tested to free a Sylvari from the Nightmare. You can’t just say it’s impossible just because some say it’s impossible.
Noone believed humans could be on the moon until we’ve sent people to the moon.
Just because noone has successfully freed a Sylvari from the Nightmare yet, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. And still, it fits into the corruption theme. They are just corrupted, their “backdoor” is opened. Mordremoth has just not taken control over the nightmare because he was asleep.

We do know what the nightmare is. It is described clearly in the game. It’s the bad part of the dream. It’s a bad dream. That’s what nightmare means. I can’t see how you could not understand this.

We also know that the Nightmare court are opposed to the Elder dragons.

We observe that they engage in behaviour that is wholly a-typical of dragon minions. They are highly intelligent, independent, factional, and they have a twisted but still comprehensible moral code.

The nightmare court are still people, with their own motivations, viewpoints, and free will. Evil people, but still people, and not soulless husks. The Kodan believe that Jormag can only corrupt empty, soulless bodies (dialog at the end of DE chain in the path of starry skies), and the other dragons seem to follow the same pattern. Dragon minions are just soulless slaves. They don’t have their own opinions or agenda, and they don’t bother trying to convince anyone that they’re right.

Nightmare make no sense as dragon minions. The Dragon in the Maguma wastes has no shortage of creatures (humans, trolls, hyleck etc) that it could corrupt – why Sylvari, and just Sylvari?

The only reason to supposed that they might be dragon minions is that they are both plants. This is a simplistic view of the world, a type of voodoo logic based on superficial similarities.

It still makes no sense for the Nightmare court to have been founded to fight the Dragons (Caderyn’s own words) if they were dragon minions.

And, as others have pointed out, Dragons don’t just corrupt one species. Jormag doesn’t just corrupt Norn, he also corrupts elementals and Quaggan. Why would they nightmare be specific to Sylvari if it was dragon corruption?

Because the Sylvari are the minions of Mordremoth. He could be the source of the mysterious seeds the Pale Tree has grown out of. Furthermore, Mordermoth was asleep the whole time, so he wasn’t able to actively corrupt anyone.

Seriously, if Sylvari were created by Mordy, then he’s a total failure as an Elder dragon. No wonder he’s been in hiding so long. The other dragons probably all laugh at him.

The Council and Lionguard would have stopped pact forces entering the city before the invasion. They had no more right to enter the city in force than the Seraph, or the Iron Legion.

The pact entered the city as soon as they could (remember the event where you have to kill a bunch of Scarlets forces to gain access). After that, they help evacuate the city. Within an hour the city was overwhelmed by miasma.

Shortly after the miasma cleared they entered the city and defeated Scarlets forces.

I fail to see the point of this thread.

Perhaps Malyck will have returned to a Tree that is thoroughly influenced by Modremoth. Seems like the only option to me considering a dragon needs an army, and Husks don’t go a far way.

There is no reason that the dragon in the jungle couldn’t corrupt humans or anything else it comes into contact with, plant or animal. The other dragons are able to corrupt a wide variety of plants and animals.

The nightmare court don’t become disconnected from the dream, they just lose the ability to add anything (bad) to it. Their cup is full. They become psychologically desensitised to pain and suffering, so they have to make others suffer instead. There isn’t anything magical about this; it’s no different from a human soldier becoming desensitised to killing.

It’s pretty clear than Scarlets experience and disconnection from the Dream was totally different to that of the nightmare court.

Just because a few people in the forums are making a lot of noise doesn’t mean that there is widespread support for a trinity.

Even in WoW most people don’t want to play tanks or healers. Most of them wouldn’t bother with Dungeons or Raids either if they didn’t need the gear, and there’d be even fewer tanks and healers then.

Dungeons are a sideshow in GW2. They get fewer players than open works events. Southsun Survival is more popular than any dungeon. We don’t need classes designed around unpopular outdated 5-man instances.

“I see the evil in the world; I am told to fight it, but the lessons of the tablet shackle me. They prevent me from doing what is right. "

Those are the words of Caderyn, who founded the nightmare court. It should seem obvious that neither the words or actions of the nightmare court are related to the dragons.

“It will take strength to defeat the dragons, and strength does not come by turning away any weapon, no matter how vicious or how cruel. We will use them all.”

To assume that two evil forces are automatically on the same side or share the same motivations is so simplistic. The Nightmare court, or at least Caderyn, still want to fight the Elder Dragons.

Caderyn doesn’t come across as corrupted. He is evil in the sense that anyone can be evil – arrogant and cruel, vicious and vindictive and immoral. But that doesn’t make him a dragon minion. There are plenty of cruel and evil people of all races, and they aren’t all dragon minions.

Especially if you reflect that, Tyrian dragons much like, actual human gods were the product of successive revisions to the script(tures), and (again like human religion) , could be ret-conned into and out of existence.

she planed to awake the dragon for the reason to face the evil (like her diary said).

[…]

And since Sylvari were always born to save Tyria, maybe Scarlet tried the same… as the crazy, murdering, madwoman she was.

…Why do people keep trying to make Scarlet sound like a good guy?

She isn’t. She wasn’t. She was selfish, egotistical, and possibly a dragon minion.

The journal doesn’t say she’s going to fight a dragon anyways.

It communicated with me through images of death, destruction, and destiny. I must know more. I must confront it and put an end to this madness.

Add on the tone of voice for it, and you get that she’s going to confront it to learn more from it. To put an end to the madness, by answering her questions.

And in A Study in Scarlet, we’re spoon fed this line:

Player: Something is driving her—something she was afraid of but has since embraced.
Marjory Delaqua: Scared? What could possibly frighten someone like Scarlet?
Kasmeer Meade: She saw something while hooked up to Omadd’s machine. Something that broke her. She’s hearing voices in her head. But what are they telling her to do?

Just because she wanted to kill the Dragon doesn’t make her good, or sane. Vizier Khilbron was quite possibly insane when he unleashed the cataclysm, but he thought he was doing the right thing. I think Scarlet honestly thought she was doing the right thing, like a lot of insane megalomaniacs do.

I have to wonder, if she was a servant of Mordremoth, why so coy about it? Why not just name him? Zhaitans minions are all Zhaintain this, and Zhaintan that. Why doesn’t she say come out and say she’s bringing about the rule of Mordremoth.

Wanderer.3248

To me it seems likely that Scarlet was trying to destroy Mordremoth, (possibly because it was driving her insane) and she needed to waken it so that she could get to it. The marionette wasn’t designed to attack Lions Arch, it could have been designed to kill an Elder Dragon.

Not necessarily a very sane plan, but she was clearly unhinged. Possibly it was Mordremoth that manipulated her into unleashing it, and she never really had a chance, but doesn’t mean that she thought she was working for it. Or possibly, something else, something she saw in the eternal alchemy drove her mad, and Mordremoth was the target of that insanity and not the source.

Then there’s her veil. What was it exactly? It looks like some kind of VR helmet. She was cut off from the Pale Tree’s dream, but what was Scarlet dreaming about? Or was it just a control device?
