Sylvari.. Poisonous?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Almost all plants are poisonous to humans. Even the plants we can eat have only parts that are non-toxic, usually the fruit or seeds. Even most plants that aren’t poisonous, like grass, can’t be digested because they contain too much cellulose.

Go out in to a forest and see how much edible food you can find!

Edit: some plants produce chemicals that are poisonous to insects, such as cocaine and caffeine, that have “other” effects on humans.

Plants evaporate waste liquid through their leaves (this helps them suck up fresh groundwater), and shed other waste in bark and leaves and resins.

Plants tend to recycle chemicals internally in a cycle of photosynthesis and respiration, so there would probably be less waste anyway.

Has GW2 ruined other mmo's ?

Wanderer.3248

I’ve only every played WoW, WAR, EVE and GW2, but GW2 is the most addictive.

I gave up on WoW and WAR long ago, they got stale quickly. GW2 is more modern than WoW, and better balanced than WAR. I can’t see why I would bother with another 3rd person fantasy MMO ATM.

EVE is just… different. It’s so much slower than most MMOs, but much more involved. With training queues, and sell orders, and long running manufacturing jobs, I can play EVE every few days, or every few weeks, and still keep “in the game”.

Is a potato Sylvari theoretically possible?

Potatoes (the part of the potato plant that you eat) is the root, not the fruit.

Some potato plants have actual fruit (seed pods), but they are poisonous (potatoe plants are actually related to deadly nightshade).

You’d think that to qualify for the Captain’s council, you’d actually have to be a captain.

Both the candidates appear to be land-lubbers. They don’t seem to have much leadership experience, and seem to be too straight laced and goody too shoes. Vote for these guys and they’ll be implementing new anti-terrorist laws everywhere, and spending waypoint fees on free heathcare for the peasants.

They aren’t captains, and they sure ain’t pirates.

I only have a level 50 thief, but I’m certainly enjoying it. Solo, I can engage level 80 players in WvW with a fair chance of winning. I can escape zergs where some of my other characters would get mown down. Shortbow is great on walls, (top or bottom). Poison and smoke fields are great for zergs. Spam-able bast finisher is great fun.

Ranged attacks are a bit meh, that’s the main downside to this class.

One of the things I have noticed is that it’s not just stealth that makes this class so hard to hit. You can heartseeker in and dodge out before most players react. And easy access to smoke fields means lots of misses.

In PVE I’m mowing down risen abominations two levels higher than me, doing skill points and veterans above my level. Often, unless I slip up, I can take out higher level opponents without taking any damage at all. As long as you don’t try and face-tank, or just stand there auto-attacking, thieves shouldn’t have any problems in open world PVE either.

They really need to look up games like Price of Persia, Assassin Creed, Ratchet and Clank, Tomb Rider and learn from them. Only in the ’80s you were seeing your character jumping like a dummy in its feet, all the rest use some grabbing to avoid near the edge jumping fails

For a game that has so many JP the jumping animations are not the best.

It’s a shame when you look at some of the great animations they have for NPCs, like the way the Krait move.

Sanctum sprint seems to be especially prone to lag.

The #3 skill is especially sensitive, and it will often misfire. I hardly every have trouble with lag, even in WvW, but a couple of my races were badly screwed up by lag.

I suspect there is some anti-hack code at work as well, similar to the problems we had jumping off cliffs in WvW that causes the server to teleport you back or interrupt movement.

The Sylvari "Father"?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

On a non-biological note: the faery king from folklore (Oberon) was often depicted as less benign or even evil, compared to the faery queen.

Also, in many myths the king was absent from the court, or turned renegade or rebel, or fighting with the queen (as in a Midsummer Nights Dream). Sometimes this was related to cycles of nature – when the king is absent, nature is in discord, when the king and queen are together, balance is restored.

Since Sylvari are based on Celtic myth, it could be that the father figure is a less benign tree than the Pale tree, and his absence could be intentional.

Try not to charge in head first to a pack of enemies that use crowd control. Use ranged attacks, pets, illusions etc.

I can think of seven ways to avoid mob knock backs off the top of my head:

Dodge
Stability
Block
Reflection
Stun
Blind
Fear

Chilling an enemy also helps because it will put the knock back on longer cool-down.

They’d have to remove a whole tier. But it seems natural to merge servers if they’re not very populated.

For the millionth time, the servers are all highly populated. Its just that in the lowest tiers 99 percent of players only PVE.

They aren’t going to merge high population servers because of a lack of WvW players.

The server’s are currently down and I’m in the mood for starting trouble.

To all HoD players: you deserve losing terribly to Ferguson’s Crossing right now. While you may outnumber us daily on the battlefield, your entire server is glass and the level of organization held by your zergs is laughable. While Eredon Terrace may not yet have the same community strength that we Fergs boast, they at least work together to utilize what little numbers they have to their favor. The “HoDomination” you once so proudly bragged over was merely the illusion of mindless zerging— where are your fair-weather battlers now, pray tell?

Your “strategic” plays are moronic (Borderlands over Battleground camps, idiots), your community’s strength is hilariously pathetic (that new PvE content sure is exciting, eh?), and the only thing your server can boast over now is the number of players you possess— mindless players, but still players. You don’t deserve to be green, or even blue, within this tier. The only color your players should, and will, have is red. At least then the rest of the higher tiered servers can have a model example of what happens when a server lacks any sense of teamwork and commitment.

So read what I’ve said, get all worked up with, “YOU’LL SEE, WE’LL BEAT YOU SOON ENOUGH!”; it still won’t be enough. Your reliance on pure numbers has put you in a rut that will take quite a few weeks to get out of. Enjoy the Valley garrison while you can— Eredon Terrace will be claiming it back very soon.

Whoa, if this keeps up, FC will be green next reset. I’m going to be so confused!!! Great work FC.

Coming soon next week – the next unholy alliance. ET/HoD double team on FC. (j/k j/k. I am terribly amused by every conspiracy theory out there including those from my own server.)

It’s not a conspiracy, after last night it was clear FC and ET were not attacking one another.

It wasn’t quite that simple. FC were obviously focusing on EB, while ET were focusing on HoD BL. FC were fighting ET in EB, but definitely making the most gains against HoD, who couldn’t defend two fonts at once. This was unfortunate for HoD, but if FC realises that ET BL is largely undefended, things could easily turn around.

The number thou shall count shall be five

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanderer.3248

To paraphrase Monty Python:

“Five shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be five. Six shalt thou not count, neither count thou four, excepting that thou then proceed to five. Seven is right out.”

GW2 got rid of the trinity, we have scaling in open world events, auto-join teams in WvW, but still we have this archaic 5 person dungeon limit that requires pre-made groups. And a lot of kittening about and drama. How hard would it be to scale content for three to seven players?

Also, how hard would it be to implement a queue and just fill up pug groups with whoever queues up. It works for PvP in many games, it works for Starcraft, for LoL, even for Little Big Planet. It even works in real life pick up games on the school ground. Kick off the instance as soon as three players have joined. Add up to four more, up to the first checkpoint. After that start another instance, and so on. It’s not complicated, even ten-year olds can grasp the concept.

What is the purpose of the multiboxing rule?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Well, assuming your statement is true, I’d be more curious as to why other games don’t also ban this.

Because other games are dumb.

I’ve seen what synchronised multi-boxed toons can do when they all move as one, and they are the most massively insanely overpowered thing you’ll ever see in a game. They can (and do) single handledly turn the tide of battle, and they walk all over PVE content as well.

You really have to actually witness multi-boxers in action to see how devastating they can be. I’ve seen a 4 shaman multi-boxer rip through a dozen enemy players like a bowling ball through tenpins.
