Warrior still terrible sustain.
Shout builds have some of the best sustain in the game.
Any suggestion that a ranger should have a rifle will immediately be shouted down by foaming at the mouth nature lovers on these forums. Ditto for pet removal, not being a Druid etc. Some people even hated the idea of a Druid being ‘celestial’ instead of being completely nature focused. Trust me, these people are rabbid.
One way to make a non healer Druid kind of fun is to not use a staff. (Ignore the cries of ‘heresy’ at this point).
I use cultivated synergy (helps build astral force without a staff) natural stride, and ancient seeds.
Ancient seeds works great with a great sword, longbow, offhand axe, or with glyph of equality: you can very easily knock down or stun and entangle an opponent in the same move. I usually run with great sword, two axes, and wolves, so there are often cases where I can repeatedly knock an opponent down and entangle them.
Glyphs are fun because they have such short cool downs. I often spam glyph of empowerment in a fight.
Celestial avatar can be kept on call for when you or a group really need healing.
Obviously this is not a dedicated healer, but it’s much more fun, and it can be used in WvW, solo, or ad-hoc event groups. You have the flexibility to face tank, go ranged, or stand back and support (often in the same fight).
Hard CC is OP in a game that depends on mobility.
The current play style of spamming CC and AOE conditions is repetitive and boring.
Lions Arch had no air defences. Nothing at all.
Scarlet was a comic book super villain, and had access to comic book resources (to this day we don’t know where she got her men and material).
Just drop some DDT on Mordy and watch him wilt.
Rata Sum is pretty much built from huge floating cubes. There’s that floating castle on the south cost of Kessex hills. And some rocks in Maguma float. And there was Scarlet’s big drill. And the Zephrite ships.
So I’d say yes, stuff floats in Tyria, stuff floats a lot.
I’ve died way more often to falling that to enemy players* in the desert borderlands. So +1 to gliding in WvW.
*probably because I’ve never seen an enemy player in the desert borderlands.
I think the map designers actively dislike players and seek to punish them.
I have a couple of those outfits and I’ve never thought about the religious implications.
Also, to nitpick, the Sylvari equivalent of faith seems to be drawn from eastern philosophies such as Confucism and Buddism.
My 2 year old HP Envy will run GW (and most games) at decent frame rates on medium settings, but then it only has to power a 1600×900 screen. I use it for WvW without any problems.
The Envy series aren’t cheap though, and they weigh a ton. And you pretty much have to keep it plugged in, because it will only last about an hour when gaming.
Ironically, the rehashed holiday events in this game are still better than the events in most other games.
ArenaNet have taught me the true meaning of Wintersday: Making bank by selling junk to people who will never have enough.
Once you realise that the Wintersday achievement is a horrible grind for something you don’t really need, and will hardly ever use, you can sit back and run a few instances whenever you feel like it, and sell the hooch you don’t need for inflated amounts of gold.
Come to think about it, Wintersday is a lot like Christmas.
Solo Druid is quite viable. You can trait for 33% movement and reduced CC, which frees up a utility slot or a rune set. The extra healing can keep you up for hours.
It’s been like this for years, It’s fair to assume that it’s working as intended.
They could build more. They were only made of bamboo and cloth, they don’t look like they’d need vast resources to construct.
Zerg doesn’t own the map. If people want to solo doors they’re allowed to.
It’s not like there’s a shortage of doors in the lab.
It can be soloed if ur a geared and traited bearbow, like really. So yes, it is soloable, and if ur not willing to reroll then thats on ur end not wanting to adapt.
Someone is recommending bearbow. Now I’ve seen everything.
Some things would just look silly. Man-bear-pig kind of silly. That’s the real reason you don’t see undead Sylvari or undead Skrit.
Story would have made more sense if they had stopped trying to link everything together like episodes of Lost:
- It would have made more sense if Scarlet was “just” a psychotic leader of sky pirates who accidentally unleashed an elder dragon. The whole external alchemy thing never went anywhere anyway.
- it would have made more sense to leave the Shadow as a premonition of Zhaitan. Another champion of Mordremoth could easily have been introduced to fill the same role in LS2. And the nightmare court have essentially gone unused in the story anyway.
- Having a player race as dragon minions was never going to work, in story or mechanics. Not unless you’re the sort of person that likes pretending that they hear voices. And it’s basically unneccessary to the plot anyway.
I hate maze maps. I’m not a skritt.
Give us parkour, or gliders, or zip lines or something.
It doesn’t help that they released HoT and Halloween at the same time as the new Assassins Creed.
And Fallout 4 will be out soon too. I barely have time to eat and sleep, let alone play WvW :-)
It’s impossible to even see the lich animations on a zerg map with all the particle effects going off, dodging isn’t going to cut it. And most maps end up full of undergeared uplevels that drop as soon as the skeletons spawn.
Bringing a truckload of healing (yay Druid), and constantly helping the downed up seems to be the way to manage in a Zerg.
It’s trivial to generate AF in a Zerg. I’ve been using it in the lab, and it really helps keep the Zerg alive.
It’s harder solo, but if you use a staff you can usually generate enough AF to solo champions.
Influence may be exchanged as follows:
– Favor may be exchanged each week.
– Resonance may be exchanged as much as desired.
– Aetherium may be exchanged every 24 hours
This doesn’t seem to be working; none of the NPCs are offering any options for exchanging influence.
The world has moved on.
I recommend alcohol :-)
When they remove the points system from WvW, then nightcaping will no longer matter. The point system is just bad in every aspect and is no indication of who’s the better server. Just remove it and make it that player kills count with outnumbered buff giving double. Would negate a lot of the annoying karma train BS and actually make people fight instead of running away, this is open world pvp after all!
Remove PPT completely and certain servers will just hug their towers and keeps all the time and not come out to fight at all unless they have 2:1 odds in their favour.
PPK deincentivises taking risks in fights. The only winning strategy is to form a giant blob and only engage with superior numbers.
Thieves are very squishy, and quite hard to play in PvP (despite what every non thief player thinks). You have to use dodges, stealth and blind to avoid damage. Getting locked down is a real problem.
I almost never see people using titles in WvW. Not even ones gained from WvW.
I think there is a perception than players using titles are new, or casual.
First you have to unlearn everything you know about MMOs. Then you can begin playing.
So they’re not going to be a bunch of tree hugging hippies?
I might actually try one out.
Kitten this filter! I’m going to make my own forum, with kitten, and kitten.
In fact, forget the forum!
Bah, kitten the whole thing.
+1
Tired of having to visit dodgy third party websites for builds and trying to figure out which bit of Javascript is needed for functionality and which scripts are just for third party trackers / advertisers / malware.
“Oceana” is huge. A server in Korea is about the same distance from Australia as it is from California.
Edit: the language thing isn’t such a big deal. We just need to learn the words for “drain” and “stack” in a few languages ;-)

I don’t see anything in HoT so far that would affect solo players.
I see it to some degree. If HoT is similar to the Silverwastes and Dry Top (and that seems to be the case) then most events are group events meaning that individual players stand little chance of completing them. On the other hand, as Belzebu said, the fact that one requires other players to be present does not mean that one is required to interact with them.
I’ll help players doing solo stuff (like hero challenges) without even talking to them.
Talk is cheap.
It would promote even more cross map zerging.
No ones trash talked me in WvW for months. Did they close the loophole or something?
GW2 runs fine on my Mac mini, which doesn’t even have dedicated graphics. Don’t expect 60+ fps, but you can get 30 easy. MacBook Pro should be able to run it much faster, unless it’s several years old model.
Makes a good backup system for when the inevitable graphics card failures kills the PC (which always seems to happen just as the warranty expires).
Why excited for Gliding but not UnderWater?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Underwater takes people out of their comfort zone. Especially people who rely on cookie cutter builds who can’t adapt.
Personally I’m as happy underwater as out of it.
Plants have organs. It’s part of what distinguishes them from vegetative life forms that aren’t plants (e.g. brown kelp), that tend to be less differentiated.
Aesthetically they firearms are a mess. Everything from the arquebus to revolvers. It don’t think we should take the technology seriously at all.
from the article it seems to shed a little nature on how the dream protects sylvari:
it’s a distraction.
the “constant noise” that soundless complain about is the whole POINT of the dream, it’s so noisy that unless mordremoth is actively shouting as loud as he can, they just can’t hear him over the crowd.
and the wyld hunts are a distraction to keep you busy and not pay attention to the whispers.
that’s why the soundless are so sussceptible: their minds are so quiet that they can hear mordremoth all the time!
I wonder if nightmare court hears it stronger as well.
I think I saw Faolin killing pact soldiers in the one trailer, alongside other sylvari and mordrem.
People say that about Faolin a lot, but if you actually look at the trailer then this seems not be the case. The corrupted enemies in that trailer glow red-ish. Faolin does not glow in this way, but the pact soldier she kills does (slightly).
Faolin is one of those villains who will team up with any other villain if they think it’ll get them what they want. I doubt that she ever really supported the cause of the nightmare court, except as it suited her.
The trouble with revolutionary organisations is that they tend to attract power obsessed narcissists, and end up being worse than the regime they aim to overthrow.
Mordy’s minions was not much of a mystery since get to see his first type being the Husks in Crucible of Eternity.
I think it’ll be quite awhile before we get to “Bubbles”. I mean it’s been 3 years and we haven’t even gotten to Mordremoth yet.
But as far was the Husks and Mordremoth. It seems that Husks may actually a plant creature all of their own. Although the Nightmare court did have them around, and the Inquest did experiment on them, it seems that they are tied to the Great Jungle Wurm.
Unless of course GJW is itself a minion/champion of Mordremoth then Husks would be also.
But there are hints and rumors about the GJW that suggest that it is part of “something darker” then the nightmare court…which could suggest it being tied to Mordy, but its not conclusive.
I doubt all husks are Mordy’s, any more than all undead belong to big Z.
People have been saying this since the game came out. Nothing was ever done. The structures in EoTM are much easier to defend, ironically.
Had sick lag in EB today after reset. Tried casting a static field like 8 times. The lag rly get’s massive in 3 way figths.
Yeah, the big fights are a real problem. Stun breakers and condition clean don’t fire half the time. You pretty much have to spam skills in advance and hope.
The nVidia problem was that MS forced a driver update for those desky-top cards or SLI configs with the code modified a la MS.
nVidia quickly rolled a new driver out to overcome this “little” problem.
I’d be happy if they killed the bloated monstrosity that is GeForce Experience. 1% is driver code and 99% is adds for Shield Tablets and other crap.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fafhrd_and_the_Gray_Mouser
Fafhrd was a 7 foot tall barbarian rogue who stole, gambled, drank heavily and whored regularly. Sounds a lot like a Norn thief to me. He stole a whole house once, (although it was a rather small one).
You can probably get the books on Amazon, they’re pretty fun to read. I’d give the comics a miss though.
How about “The Entitled”.
I don’t think the Zephrites were referring to their physical power when they described the elder dragons as forces of nature, so much as their lack of morality and “humanity”.
