Your new top 5 priorities for WvW?

I got infracted for posting balance as my priorities in the last WvW thread.

Seems like they don’t want to know about it.

The core game is a snooze, and it just gets easier with every change. Anet are unlikely to ever make it harder.

The newer areas are significantly more challenging.

No bright future to WvW

Wanderer.3248

But here is the thing… 95% of game development efforts have gone to PvE.

Too be fair, 95% of the player base are probably not interested in WvW. All the effort goes into PVE, which is often to the detriment of WvW (in terms of imbalanced builds).

And too many WvW players are too invested in their PVE builds to accept a separation of PVE and WvW builds.

At least Anet are working on population balance.

7th Elder Dragon?

Wanderer.3248

We don’t know how many elder dragons their really are. If the domains of the Elder dragons are proportional to their geographic reach, there should be several other elder dragons that are ‘off the map’.

The oceans alone should have room enough for dozens. We know almost nothing about ‘bubbles’. There is no reason to assume that all the worlds oceans would hold just one.

Presumably they use all those windmills to make flour. Not all flour is made from wheat.

Edit: possibly also used to hold up the queen’s frock (starch is also made from corn).

Edit 2: according to Wikipedia, more than ten times as much corn is consumed by livestock as by humans these days. It’s possible that a lot of that Tyrian beef, bacon, and chicken is corn fed.

Attitudes towards people’s age have changed a lot in the last century. It used to be common for people that young to have jobs, get married, and even fight as soldiers.

Orr Expansion, Playable Risen

Wanderer.3248

Playable undead/evil races tend to come off as cheesy and unbelievable when shoehorned to fit in a multiplayer story and setting. There’s too many elements you have to ignore, like the characters motivation and their relations to others. Suspension of disbelief gets really hard when your character is essential running around constantly and determindly obvious to their single most defining characteristic.

It’s bad enough that you have tainted Sylvari being so blindly cavalier of their condition, but if you have corpses shuffling around Lions Arch and Divinities reach without anyone raising an eyebrow you may as well throw plot and story out the window.

I can’t see you doing the battle for Lions Arch with fewer than 20 people, certainly not if they’re mostly pugs.

Not sure how they’d make the open world content – like clockwork chaos – work either. They’d have to create instances of whole maps.

And what about the festivals like dragon bash and the Zephrites? How would you handle that?

With so many possible S1 instances it’d be hard to get enough people to do them all.

Wanderer.3248

My main (Ranger) appears to have only one option, Point Blank Shot, with a long cool down, so I have to be exact when I use it. I appreciated when some one calls out ‘CC Now’.

Rangers have so much CC I’m not even going to list it all – all the different weapons, traps, pets, and traits. One of the Druid sigils has a stun on a very short cool down, and you can trait it to add immobility and bleeding.

Wanderer.3248

There is not ‘tutorial’. In the core game you are introduced to the idea of dodging early on but once you enter HoT there is nothing telling you this is how this works or that works etc. Not everyone reads blog post that outline new mechanics and it’s frustrating playing with others that have no idea of what I consider basic gameplay.

If you mouse over the break bar it tells you what to do.

I suspect that a lot of players never slot CC skills and don’t practice using CC.

What class is using shortbow anyway`?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Short bow used to be the go to weapon for a Ranger, because it was pretty much the only ranger weapon that didn’t suck. And no one used the longbow because it was so terrible.

In response Anet kept nerfing the short bow, until it (and rangers) were the official joke class of GW2.

Finally after a couple of years, they buffed the long bow and rangers stopped being the last kid to be picked for a team. But they never undid all the short bow nerfs, and it’s one of the least used weapons now.

What is Anet's Stance on Proxy Catas?

in WvW

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

what about applying some real life / physics to it ? – if the cata is too close to wall, it makes a dent, but not as much damage as if projectiles had more distance to generate more momentum ? the ram, makes sense because it’s meant to work up close, but on the same hand if you launched a flaming ram from a teb distance, you will take down the doors in one shot.

RL physics don’t work that way.

IRL siege was not placed against walls because defenders would drop large objects and/or boiling hot liquids on the attackers.

DPS meter in game would be a "God Send"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Firstly: break bars.

Secondly: doesn’t matter how high your dps is if you spend the fight lying on the ground. I see many glass cannons melting like snowflakes when faced with difficult content.

Edit: thirdly, boon stacking. 25 stacks of AOE might provides a huge dps bonus that isn’t going to be picked up by any simple dps meter.

Remind me again what did you get for grinding ppt for hours to win last week? Oh thats right..nothing. Hollow victories are great aren’t they?

Nice try, but I’m not in YB. I’ve just seen enough of these threads over the years to have seen most servers claim that they’re not about PPT. When BG was in top spot it was the other servers claiming that they’re all about the fights.

But if it makes you feel better about pixels vs pixels, say what you want.

Proxy catas are, many times, the only way to do something against the ridicolous OPiness of arrow carts that make the gates untouchable, and you want to “fix” it?
You guys want more ppl leave wvw or what? You want destroy the wvw definitveliy?
I really dont understand…..
If you want “fix” the proxy cata ask for a big nerf of arrow carts then there will be no reason to go for proxy catas anymore…

Have you considered placing your catapults outside of arrow cart range? In some cases, this won’t even mean you need to charge the throw at all, so it’ll be the same speed.

Cara’s at long range tend to be vulnerable to mortars, balistas and trebs. It also means you need a second set to hit the inner walls of a keep.

The real problem is the LOS rules that make it kitten near impossible to man the walls and attack proxy cats without being pulled off the wall.

For me it is roaming. I feel like the game mode is forcing players to use HoT. Every encounter is some stupid reaper necro or dare devil thief. I just miss the random classes you could fight. Every kid is running the same boring thing. I seem to remember a lot more variety pre-hot, at least I made some cool interesting builds with necro. Today I encounter a necro for example and think “ok….chills…reaper…chills…reaper…chills…reaper, oh look he’s using torment sigil”. Just getting boring, MORE DIVERSITY.

Roaming has always been about the cheese build of the month, with a generous side of hacking. New cheese emerges with every patch.

Unless WvW builds are separated from PVE builds, there’s never going to be small/solo balance.

Too many players try HoT in zerker gear with class cannon specs, no sustain and no escapes or stun breakers.

You can’t wander into HoT with a purely offensive build and expect to burn down every NPC you come across. If you can’t re-gear, at least review the rest of your build to be more defensive.

IF it was good, there was no need for this entire thread and the paragraphs above
I’ve spent over 5000 hours of total gameplay in WvW – ( ONLY )

I think my opinion matters as a HARDCORE WvW’er more than half of the PVE’ers in this thread.

Just my 2 cents

Ya know everyone who plays WvW is entitled to an opinion, and many of us love the WvW game mode in spite of its many issues. In the end all of our money holds the same value.

For me its hard to be callous. I played WvW full tilt when I first started. I was ate up with WvW, but I can see that the new map is also not working.

On the other hand I am also very aware of the talent and time that went into making that very dynamic map in a 3D program along with all the physics, and texturing.

I know they tried very hard to please this community. The map has its issues in the WvW sense, but it is not shoddy work by no means.

It’s a work of art.

But it’s just not practical.

WvW without PPT? How would you do it?

Do Sylvari *need* sleep?

in Lore

Wanderer.3248

Sylvari have some sort of brain

I’m sorry I haven’t done an insane amount of research into the anatomy or physiology of Sylvari but where does this statement come from?

Just an assumption: Sylvari think, therefore they have some sort of organ that I choose to call a brain, even if it is located in their butts.

I’m not even sure if our Sylvari friends have toes.

Off topic, but if you take off their shoes and run you can see toes – especially if they have a strong glow.

What I intend to say however is:

Sleep is important for the brain – without it you’ll suffer from reduced mental ability, and eventually you’ll have hallucinations and psychosis.

  • Yes this is very true, for human physiology.

Actually any animal with even the smallest brain (even flies) need some sort of sleep. Fruit flies suffer memory loss due to sleep deprivation.

Now, while it’s true that all animal brains are made of nerve cells, and Sylvari brains are probably made of some other type of cells, I don’t think it’s a huge assumption to think that these brains would enter some sort of sleep, or a state resembling sleep, due to circadian rhythms. It’s not too much of a stretch to think that disrupting the natural cycle of this organ would result in impaired functioning.

On a slight tangent: even in the absense of a brain, Sylvari might still appear to enter a state similar to sleep due to circadian rhythms. Many organisms, even bacteria, have biological cycles lasting 24 hours, and curtail their activity at night.

Sleep is important for the brain – without it you’ll suffer from reduced mental ability, and eventually you’ll have hallucinations and psychosis. Sylvari have some sort of brain, so it’s not too much of a leap to assume they need sleep to rest their brain just like animals do.
