They have nothing in common with dragon minions.

As far as we have seen.

I find it highly unlikely that we have seen all kinds of Dragon Minions. In fact we have probably seen rather few of them all in all.

That doesn’t make it inconsistent.

We haven’t seen Tom Bombadil go skipping through the meadows either.

Omad’s machine (and Scarlet, and in fact all of LS1, and some if LS2) becomes unnecessary to the plot when you have Mordremoth taking control of Sylvari without it.

In fact, you could pretty much skip all the living story up to this point, and jump into this chapter and have Modremoth just take control of his minions and have it make no less sense.

Said it before; if I was Mordey I’d be ashamed to have Sylvari as dragon minions.

Compared to Icebrood, Risen, Branded, and Destroyers, they’re just so freaking lame.

What sort of self respecting evil incarnation of destruction has a bunch of namby pamby hippies as minions? Even the nightmare court are lame. Bunch of whining emos with their unrequited love and their mommy issues.

If I was going to have one of the races as minions I’d go for the Charr. At least they look evil, hell, they were designed that way. The Charr know how to be bad guys.

kitten it, even the Skritt would make better minions than the Sylvari.

But it wasn’t Kudu who experimented on (with) Scarlet, it was Omad. And he didn’t intend to turn (or un-un-turn) her into a Dragon minion.

Arguably, the plot of LS2 might have made a lot more sense if it was Kudu who created Scarlet.

May as well make bad jokes and empty threats, because the game mechanics don’t support any real action. You can’t actually be a bad Sylvari, and you can’t actually make a salad out of one either.

If the game had actual factions you could back up your hot air (or try to).

But all we have in GW2 is the equivalent of badlands chat, without the option of raiding crossroads.

Even though this is a joke thread I can’t help wonder how players should act.

Pretend nothing happened? Mordremoth’s minions are running around doing jumping puzzles and making money in the TP? WTF? Or perhaps some bad roleplaying about taking over the world.

Honestly, I can’t see how a Sylvari player is supposed to reconcile any of this.

Wanderer.3248

Aside from any lore reasons, hybrid minions, like Mordem destroyers and branded undead would be cringe-inducing bad fiction, and should never be given serious consideration.

Eh. Subject Alpha wasn’t bad. It’s just something that needs to be used sparingly- kinda like how throwing colors together just tends to result in brown, breaking down what makes minions distinct could very easily result in something unappealing.

As a one time “what-if” scenario it works. But you are totally right that if it was used all the time it would just be a horrible mess.

Some of the most awful attempts at fiction have been serious attempts to combine multiple monsters into one.

What does a Support Thief in WvW consist of?

in Thief

Wanderer.3248

Use a shortbow.

You don’t run in the middle of the blob, you run around it. Use shortbow 3 and 5 as well as dodges to avoid direct combat. You want a build with some toughness and vitality in case some enemy ranger makes you a target.

Apply poison fields to the enemy back line and flanks. Do not drop a poison field on your own front line.

Blast your own front line with shortbow 2 often. A single thief should be able to generate huge amounts of AoE might, retaliation and healing. If your commander calls for fire or water blast the kitten out of it.

Use shadow refuge to get downed allies up.

You can swap to d/p if you need to escape and reset. Or you can use it to stealth finish downed enemies.

Hybrid melee ranger. Its built to endure and burst. And if that fails, condies will wear your enemy out fast enough.

I was thinking in make a celestial ranger for wvw. The utilities and traits are similar my main problem is get a good weapon set. GS has the best mobility but it is pure direct dmg, Sword also has great mobility but the autoatck chain is annoying.

Has anyone tried to might stack with sword+warhorn/axe+torch or something similar?

You can stack might & ferocity with axe and warhorn, but you lose it again pretty quick if you swap weapons.

PPK -- does it even matter?

Wanderer.3248

Anyone done an analysis? Is it even possible to determine how many points come from kills? (I believe you can tell how many come from player kills + sentries + yak kills, but what about just player kills alone?)

It’d be nice to see some accurate numbers, but perhaps some analysis can be done by comparing scores from before PPK and now — of course, that might be impossible because removal of white swords also happened.

In any case, despite its popularity, I’d be surprised if (aside from boosting point totals all around) it makes any difference in outcomes at all.

Even before PPK servers could easily get 20-30% of their points not from tick. So at a guess I’d say that about 10-20% of current scores are PPK.

Size matters

in Lore

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Kodan are 10 feet tall on average – per The Wisdom and Power of the Kodan – norn average 9 foot, iirc (a head shorter than kodan).

As for physical strength being comparable to height – it’s less “height” and more “body mass” that is important. Naturally, having more body mass, larger races will be physically stronger than smaller races. Mechanically we won’t really see this though, because balance.

It’s not even that simple. Strength to weight ratios can vary hugely between species and sexes, and even individuals in a species. Carnivores are typically much stronger, pound for pound, than herbivores.

Humans are exceptionally weak apes, even for their height and weight. An adult chimpanzee is about 5’6 and about 70kg; slightly smaller than the averge human. But they are much much stronger – some estimates have chimps being four times stronger than humans, and in a hand to hand fight no human could hope to match a chimp.

It wouldn’t be surprising for other humanoid races like Grawl and Dwarves to actually be stronger than humans.

The main advantages humans have in physical ability is endurance (especially long distance running), and coordination. Chimps, for example, are terrible at throwing things. You could never train a chimp to throw a spear or even a rock accurately. They just chuck stuff under-arm. Humans on the other hand excel at throwing objects, and running down their prey; overwhelming their enemies with numbers and hit and run tactics. In many ways humans hunt and fight like wolves.

What this game needs is dueling on mounts inside guild halls inside super adventure box. With no downed state and no AOE cap. And precursors for the winner.

The artists behind this game have something called _taste_* and aren’t going to throw in a bunch of glocks. It’s not going to happen. No matter how nice you’ve all been this year.

The art style of this game is pretty obviously influence by Renaissance through to Victorian era Europe, with a dash of Da Vinci’s notebooks, a piece of Jules Verne, and some oriental spicing . Where fantastical machines are introduced, they have a very retro styling, the sort of thing you would see in works of fiction of that era.

I have been killing tons of veterans before i found out there was a veteran creature daily still sitting on 0%. Turns out to be a pve achievement in wvw.

Whats next, daily wvw champion killer which will be the spider?

90% of the veteran PVE mobs (like the wolf near umber glade) don’t count for the achievemt either.

None of those are being used for business purposes (by the players), so Disney or whoever is unlikely to be able to sue, even if they wanted to. Especially since it’s obvious that the players are not mice, and are not affiliated with Disney.

You might be surprised. Here’s a bit of history for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Heroes#Suit_by_Marvel

The important part here is that if someone makes a copyright copy character in a game and it’s found out about by the copyright holder, they might feel they NEED to sue to protect that copyright, even if such a lawsuit is not reasonable.

As a fun side note, on one server there was a character named “Harry Dresden”. He had his name taken from him more than once, and had to file with support to get it restored each time. It seems Jim Butcher didn’t like having his personal character renamed.

All the trademark claims in that suit were dismissed, because there was no commercial use.

It’s correct that companies do need to enforce trademarks, and often sue just to avoid losing trademarks.

Ironically, what was eventually settled in the lawsuit were some copyright issues, and you don’t actually need to keep suing to avoid losing a copyright.

I wonder how long this would take to pay off, compared with buying gems with the cash you would have spent on the second copy of the game, and then converting gems to gold.

Gaile – the problem is that the event is actually kind of bugged. The daily just requires participation, so you should be able to go in, miss every note and still get your daily. I had gone in, hit notes, and was ejected for failure about 4 or 5 times before the daily recognized that I had participated.

I think this is working as intended. The achievement is for playing, not winning.

It could be that you do not know when to play the notes. There’s very little reason for there to be lag in that instance.

I’m sitting on 300ms to the ANet servers most of the time, just because of the speed of light. That’s enough of a delay to make a difference. When your listening to music and the timeline is nearly half a second out it doesn’t even sound like music.

Games like Rocksmith actually have to calibrate for the delay caused by the console and TV, and that’s usually less than 50ms.
