Question regarding Shadow of the Dragon

in Lore

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

What bugs me is that the Shadow of the Dragon is supposed to be a dream representation of a dragon (take your pick). That’s why Caithe calls it the shadow of a dragon.

So either

(A) this Shadow has come back to life and got out of the dream, Freddy Kruger style, or

(B) the one in the dream was the shadow of a dragon that just happens to be called – wait for it – the Shadow of the Dragon. They could have at least given it a proper name so we don’t have something as lame as a shadow of a shadow.

It turns out that we weren’t even fighting a shadow of an Elder Dragon, it was just a minion, or a shadow of a minion. Either explanation just makes me want to slap someone.

The wings are the main difference. It can be hard to see because most of the shots clip the wings, but the new model has more bones and a bit more stuff between them. It looks more like it could fly than the old one.

What’s with the huge bias towards crafting? And now dungeons. And it’s not like fractals didn’t already have half the back pieces in the game already.

I hole the other game modes get some love.

let’s remove bosses and replace them with normal easy minions instead, no point in having bosses if you just want to autoattack them a few times to death without dodging

That’s basically what you do do in this fight. Dodging is not really required. AA strafing is more efficient.

And those vines are awfully close to the throat… are we sure they’re cuddling in kindness?

It would be hilarious if Mawdrey is Anet’s attempt at the original ending of Little Shop of Horrors.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Shop_of_Horrors_(film)#Original_ending

Shame they didn’t make the backpack actually look like the film version of Audrey, or like one of the Threshers. Even a vine seed plant would have been a better model.

I’m not sure that “touched by” means the same as “corrupted by”. C.f. The Sons of Svanir, and The Flame Legion.

I don’t think that Sylvari immunity to corruption by Jormag, Kral, or Zhaitan needs any other explanation than that Sylvari Icebrood, Branded and (especially) Risen would have looked pretty stupid.

The dragon in the vision is the same as the one that attacks the conference. In particular it had the same wing design, which is quite unique and easily distinguished from other dragon models. (It also differs substantially from the Shadow of the Dragon Mk1 in the Sylvari personal story).

Sylvari sayings applied to real life

The full set from Ventari’s tablet:

I. Live life well and fully, and waste nothing.
II. Do not fear difficulty. Hard ground makes stronger roots.
III. The only lasting peace is the peace within your own soul.
IV. All things have a right to grow. The blossom is brother to the weed.
V. Never leave a wrong to ripen into evil or sorrow.
VI. Act with wisdom, but act.
VII. From the smallest blade of grass to the largest mountain, where life goes—so, too, should you.

Many of them resemble the teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius. Players have speculated that eastern philosophy (such as Confucianism and Buddhism) was a source for Ventari’s tablet.

Like Confucianism the teachings of Ventari seem more concerned with matters of ethics and morality than spirituality, and the Sylvari are more concerned with living life, and less concerned with concepts like an afterlife. Along with Charr, they are one of the major Tyrian races that could be said to lack a true religion.

It is also interesting to compare these values, which are more like suggestions and guidelines to the more prescriptive rules of Western regions.

Attack:Defense Ratios

Wanderer.3248

You can get (successful) attack verse defense numbers from the WvW achievements.

Yaks: 3545 /1838 (1.9:1)
Camps: 3262 / 205 (15.9:1)
Towers: 2040 / 801 (2.5:1)
Keeps: 646 / 590 (1.1:1)
Stonemist: 77 / 183 (0.4:1)

What sort of ratios do you guys have? Extrapolating from my numbers, about half of keep attacks fail, and more than half of attacks on SM (although there will be some bias from getting more than one defense tick for a prolonged attack).

So funny to see the majority pointing warrior as the easiest class to play WvW with group/zerg while it’s the hardest of all, unless your only job is hitting #4 and #5 off-hand warhorn.

To play the warrior class as it was meant to be in WvW, you gonna need some serious practice that requires a long time to get used to, from placement on the field for damage to smartness for survivability, not even counting lots and lots of thoughts and tries to make the right build to combine damage/crit and defense.

The right choice for you Victor is Guardian staff/sword+shield or gs.

We are still talking about Guild Wars 2 right?

Buying colored tags would be just silly.

What if the two commanders on a map had both bought the same color? It would defeat the whole purpose.

Maybe I’m being too sensible, but you’d think the ability to change colours on the fly would be the way to go. So if there was a red commander and a blue commander already, you could change your tag to green.

They introduced three new factions in LS1, so I don’t think it’s development effort. They could put the same effort into three different dragons in the same season. Not three in the same two weeks, but they could easily alternate.

I know some people hated the new factions, and the way they were all tied ultimately together, but that’s not the point.

I was a bit surprised by this fight actually, particularly the floor. You might be able to jump but it isn’t ‘obvious’ by any stretch of the imagination.

The fight with Notchli uses the same mechanic.

I think there are a few things that make this fight go more smoothly:

Knowing the mechanics – they have been used in dry top, so if you spent much time there you would have seen them.

Knowing the Mordrem. They aren’t so hard if you have practiced fighting them.

Having the right build. Some healing and condition removal is essential. You can’t expect to glass cannon this fight, unless you are perfect at dodging and avoiding AOE.

Also, not falling off cliffs helps…

Most of the elites are kitten? I’m sorry, are we playing the same game? The only elite (outside of most racial ones) that I can’t find a possible usage for would be the engineer mortar..
Apart from mortar the only niche ones would be warrior rampage and engineer elixir x, both of which are highly situational for any game mode.

That being said, I’d love to see more elites that synergize with utilities/traits more (I’d love to see previously mentioned underwater minion or spirit weapon elite).

Avatar of Melandru is a joke.

Avatar of Grenth is way under powered.

The Asura golem are pretty meh.

Engineer mortar can be useful in WvW sometimes, but otherwise it’s pretty useless.

The Norn ones are useless, except for leopard form in WvW, and only as an escape.

Any Elder Dragon that doesn’t have one eye on the Pale Tree at this point has not being paying attention.

That aside, what creatures do you mean? Things like Overgrown Thorn Hounds and Mordrem husks already exist in the real world, so what else would he pull out of The Nightmare?

Then someone said something about keys, but no one had any idea what keys, or where to get them, or even what to use them for.

Then a Mesmer ported us all up anyway, but it turned out that the chaos was bugged and half the people couldn’t channel it anyway. At least we got a boss chest out of it, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.

For the next scavenger hunt I suggest locating it in the Forsaken Halls, or the Hidden Garden. Having them located in a place that 90 percent of the player base is unaware even exists can only lead to amusement.

If it was intentional, it implies that Glint was corrupted, rather than born a minion. Makes me wonder what "species" the draconic champions are from, and if other champions, like the Claw, or Tequatl share similar ancestry.
