Wanderer.3248

no it wouldn’t be bad. gw2 is a game where you should have to learn how to adapt. the new queen’s pavilion is a step in that direction. i would love for champs to have counters to player damage, IE champs in wvw having a sort of block mechanic and an interrupt.

The queens pavilion champs don’t show much intelligence. They have some tricky abilities, but they don’t react to players at all.

More options for all are great!

An example of RL dude rocking a sexy, skimpy adventuring outfit, to prove it can be done: http://fashionablygeek.com/costumes/gender-bent-erotic-metal-gear-solid-v-cosplay-is-fantastic/

And a good commentary on why “boobplate” is a bad idea: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/05/boob-plate-armor-would-kill-you

If you want realism, get rid of all the oversized great-swords that nobody except a demigod could possibly even lift, the automatic weapons with unlimited ammunition, and make all cloth armor have zero defensive value.

And get rid of all the spikes, flanges, horns and other ornaments that could give an enemy or a weapon purchase, or could catch on something.

Some of those buildings do look like ruined skyscrapers. A lot if the time in Orr it seems like you are climbing around the ruins of buildings made for giants. The temples, monuments, buildings, statues etc in Orr were certainly big.

I imagine it as a cross between Rome and Washington DC.

Any of these theories are probably as good as any other because I doubt that even the GW2 writers have come up with origins for all these things yet.

It’s not that unusual for authors to have elements of their stories that are not fully fleshed out, or for the authors to not even know how their stories will end (Steven King’s Dark Tower books are a good example).

And even if they do have an idea of where the gods came from, they might change their mind in the course of developing the game. And authors in a game can come and go, which can mean revisions and ret-conning.

Take the speculation on whether Scarlet is or isn’t a servant of Mordremoth. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if the LS writers haven’t actually decided that for themselves.

EOTM - the Death bringer

Wanderer.3248

This… I think. K-train happens in WvW, but why isn’t it as pronounced?

The karma train isn’t as rewarding in normal WvW.

Server pride also plays a part. We have to defend stuff or the other servers start cracking wise about our mommas. This isn’t an issue in EoTM because it’s always Someone Else’s Problem. There is no team in EoTM, just a swarm of individuals.

The maps are big and getting around is confusing and frustrating. Much easier to just follow the blue Doritos.

It’s easy to get lost and get ganked, and it’s very hard to react to an attack in a timely fashion. Even finding your way from the spawn into your own keep can be a problem for new players.

I use take root in WvW quite often. You can make an enemy zerg blow a lot of cooldowns for nothing, then GTFO while leaving a bunch of turrets behind. The turrets don’t do much damage, but they add to the confusion.

I don’t really think AN should invest in such a serious process like AI programming in the first place. Life-like behavior can be made mutch cheaper and ~same good~ with proper animations, skill designs and emotes.

Animations don’t help when you can literally run circles around the enemy.

Tell us 5 weapons you would like to see

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Some of these weapons just aren’t very good.

Claws and fists are really only useful against unarmed opponents, anyone with a proper weapon has a huge reach advantage.

Sabres are useless against armor (they only became popular when firearms rendered armor worthless).

Spears and pole arms are great weapons, but are too slow for single combat. They are used best in formation. A scythe is a farming implement. You’d only every use it as a last resort.

Crossbows are very powerful, but very slow to reload. (Although, early firearms technically have the same issues).

Cannons, WTF?

No one who has ever used a chainsaw would seriously consider using it as a real weapon. Chainsaws are heavy. You can’t use a chainsaw long without resting. Chainsaws are subject to gyroscopic forces, which makes them dangerously unpredictable when moving. Swing a chainsaw around and you’re about as likely to cut your own head off as someone else’s. Lastly, they suffer from “kickback”. Cut something with the tip of a chainsaw blade, and it will kick upwards, which is a good way to lose a face.

I hadn’t heard that. But even then I was referring more toward the fact people seem to LOVE comparing them to Paladins and “Human paladin” = a favorite idea in fantasy to many it seems.

Paladins have been heavily romanticised anyway. The legends of Roland etc are little more than fairy tales.

In reality they were basically the retainers (if we want to be polite) or enforcer goons (more to the point) of a military strongman who managed to arrogate to himself the title of emperor. Having guardians in the retinue of a bandit warlord is probably quite apt.

Spend 10 minutes on each boss.

You’re doing it wrong.

Do one boss and you get credit for the event. Let the mindless Zerg finish the event the hard way. Don’t bother joining any fight with more than a dozen players. You get the same rewards as if you slogged through each boss.

Because of the scaling, you’re actually helping by going AFK once there are too many players.

If you can get a few players of moderate intelligence to start a boss out of order, even better. The event rewards you for killing a boss before the Zerg gets there, and it helps the Zerg too.

A simple improvement that could do wonders would be to display ALL the bosses life bars at the same time regardless of the zone you’re in.
So if you see a life bar that does not go down, go there !

A second one would be to have the number of players in each area displayed as well, but I doubt that is even possible.

I agree that life bars would be useful. Although I suspect that some of the more obtuse players would just Zerg to whichever boss had the lowest health bar.

Swamp Things: Into The Mud

Wanderer.3248

Yes, you see occasional “good” undead, but it’s rare. Good reanimated plants may just have no place in the story. Unlike evil undead plants, which fill a need, plot wise. And I doubt that there’s much player demand for a plant necromancer class (or skills).

And judging by their rotted appearance, the (animal) undead are definitely host to all sorts of pathogens and parasites. I’d expect husks to carry plant pathogens. A fresh corpse might not have many diseases, but after a few days I wouldn’t want to be near it. Fortunately, necromancer minions don’t last very long.

As for dangerous, who knows. I wouldn’t want to be around if a necromancer lost control of a horde of shambling brain eating corpses.

I would speculate that the good guys don’t summon husks for much the same reason that you don’t see good guys summoning undead very often. They’re disease ridden, rather vile, and possibly dangerous. They probably smell like a compost heap.

(TBH, I never understood why MMOs ever allowed playable non-evil Necromancers).

Class speed is backwards

Wanderer.3248

I have 9 level 80 characters, or all classes, I’ve played them all for many hours in WvW and I know all the movement speed tricks. Warriors are faster over any significant distance. Some classes can move faster for short bursts, but warriors will outrun them over any distance that takes more than a minute to cover. Only a thief has a chance of keeping up, and some warriors can even outrun thieves.

You can list all the skills and traits you like. Many of them are on long cooldowns and/or only provide very short bursts of speed. Warriors have many skills and weapons that provide fast movement on short cooldowns.

This ain’t no dead horse. It’s a doped up derby winner that’s frothing at the mouth.

You could have map, team (squad), party, and guild channels. Map would be open. Team would be run by the commander. Party by the party leader, and guild by guild officers.

I only see real problems for abuse with an open map channel.

A warrior built for mobility has terrible damage output, terrible group support, and terrible everything EXCEPT mobility. If you get killed by one, you weren’t playing well enough, because it is one if the worst builds for combat EVER.

(insert the 500 other reasons from other threads that even the OP posted in and knows off by heart)

By the way, it makes perfect sense for the athlete to outrun a bookworm. Fantasy broken my buttocks. The fantasy would be broken if the bookworm outran the athlete.

/thread

Warriors don’t need to be built for mobility to still be faster than most classes. Any warrior with a a sword and an off-hand war horn can outrun most other classes.

You’d look twice and pich your own arm if you saw someone at the busstop or in the supermarket (other then the camping variety) wearing wearing a swimsuit.

You must live somewhere cold all year round or something. I see people in swimwear all the time.

It’s warm enough in summer, usually. I see people in swimming gear on the beach, or at the swimming pool and sometimes a bikinitop near a music festival, but I don’t see people wearing swimsuits in the supermarket, or waiting for the bus or when going to school (200 mtr from my house) or otherwise generally on the street.

I wouldn’t mind if people did, I just don’t see it happening.

Walk around outside a school in a swimsuit and get a visit from the FBI.

I don’t think there’ll be any living story content with this update. I think this is just to give us something to chew on. Else, why introduce them out of sequence. Queen’s gauntlet was june last year, and Zephyr was august (I think). I doubt there’ll be new bosses, they don’t even have time to be on the forums, why would they have time to balance test new bosses? I do wonder if there’ll be new achievements. Probably not.

I picking that there’ll probably be a minor achievement or two related to bandits (the lawless?) in the Brisbane Wildlands. Nothing major.

TS integrated with the game client, with single sign-on would be much more convenient than a third party client.

Having to start and log into teamspeak separately (and worse, log into the server forum to find out what the TS password is, and then log into TS) is a giant pain in the kitten.

And then some guilds have passwords, so you need to log into the guild forum… At which point I just give up.

Do you realize that you can bookmark each different channel that you have signed into on TS, so that in the future, you just have to bring up TS, click on the bookmark pulldown and hit the bookmark, and TS does the rest on login, including the password. Makes it very simple when you belong to several different TS channels.

Until the password changes.

They’re both pretty good, IMHO. Hammer warriors seem to work better in coordinated groups, from what I’ve seen. I find hammer guardian more fun to play personally. The ability to spam AOE retaliation is handy, and the crowd control is very useful. A staff/hammer guardian can easily lock down an individual player. On the other hand, a group of hammer warriors can lock down a whole Zerg.

Gold is being “printed” by the game all the time – every time a monster or bag drops a few copper or silver.

I don’t know whether or not ANet also prints gems, or whether all gems are generated by players selling them for gold. Printing gems would be a good way to control gold price inflation (so the evidence would suggest that ANet isn’t printing gems).
