The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

in Living World

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

The Sylvari tend to transform the plants in areas they are in too. Look at the Sylvari outposts in the blood tide coast, or timberline falls for example, they are all surrounded by massive thorns.

That the nightmare court transformations look more evil is really just a matter of color.

It’s not unusual to see the centaur attacks in gendarran fields, and elsewhere, overwhelm low level players. There are similar attacks all over the game. They aren’t as challenging for a fully geared 80 obviously.

If you argue that weapons don’t have to be realistic because it’s fantasy, and coolness outweighs realism, then pretty soon you end up with this .

The main advantage of this weapon is that your enemies can’t defend themselves since they are all laughing their guts out.

I Will repeat my question again. where is my high level end game rewarding content

I will add that i am not talking about wow raid like stuff (never played wow fyi, only played gw1 since its begining)

I will also add that i am not talking about a gear grind.

Just to make thing clear and to make people understand that what i am looking for is something instanced to do with other player that is harder than fractal or arah. Something that you have to practice over and over again for awesome rewards. Ever heard of DOA in gw1? (Thats where your tormented skin come from fyi)

It’d be hard for all of a week, but people would figure out how to do it, start farming it and then you’d be back to whining on the forums about how easy it is.

And once everyone was farming it and running around with the same rewards you’d be complaining how it’s not rewarding.

Interesting, but I think the reason that you only get 50 sickles a slot has more to do with game balance (because each node only consumes one use) than with any lore reason.

On a related note – one of the most formidable weapons of the late medieval period was a modified pruning shear, called the bill

I’d love to see one of these in game. You could use it to cut down saplings, or cut the legs off of enemies…

Nightmare court

in Sylvari

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

Saying that the nightmare court are not fully corrupted until they’re fully corrupted is tautologous.

It is difficult to reconcile the behaviour of the court with corruption – mainly because or their avowed aims, which include killing dragons. This could, in theory, be a clever ruse on the part of the court, or the court could themselves be deceived. However, I wonder how the nightmare court could be secretly influenced by Mordremoth, and the Pale Tree not know about it. Even other Sylvari should become aware of it, via the dream. Yes, you could argue that the nightmare court have no idea, even subconsciously, that they have fallen under the spell of a dragon.

This poses several problems – if they are dragon minions but the dragon has no influence yet, why then, do they behave evilly? If the court can be dragon minions without knowing it, could anyone be a secret dragon minion? Queen Jenna? Logan? The Player?

The theory essentially paints Mordremoth’s corruption of the court (and/or the Sylvari and/or the Pale Tree) as an invisible pink unicorn , i.e. something that exists without any possibility of proof.

The simple thing is that WvW week-by-week is getting to be more and more about fights and less about ppt…You can control fights to an extent, in large part you (individually or as a guild) have little control over PPT in the grand scheme of things.

(Yes that means all those pvdoors are worth very little in the grand scheme, coverage rules wvw in PPT, not skill, not effort).

The game has always been like this. Nothing has changed. Perhaps your perspective is different, but the game is still the same.

PPT has always been about what hundreds, sometime thousands, of other people do. By definition WvW is about worlds, not players, not guilds.

From what I hear there’s plenty of dead time on HoD now.

HoD like most Silver servers has dead times. FA has a stable population and has gotten several guilds (including some from HoD). NA is also on summer break which means servers with heavy young populations have strong NA off hour support.

Not sure where HoD will settle but right now it looks like a T3 server with FA back to its usual form of a T2 or T2.5 server. I think a lot of FA are enjoying “punishing” HoD for months of the horde beatings they endured. I know we are all looking forward to more diverse matches… a big chunk of HoD now heads to EotM it seems.

FA is like the dude that shows up to the party with a full keg and a bag of Doritos, just as everyone else is leaving.

I’ve mentioned before how I really liked how they were implemented in GW1. The Junundu Wurms were a requirement to cross otherwise impassable regions. For technical reasons, they were also a transform, but that was okay. The designers did their best with what they had.

Technology has changed since GW1, and I think player expectations have as well. If consoles with hardware that’s several years out of date can have proper seamless animations, I think GW2 running on a modern PC should have them too.

Necromancers and zombies

I’m not even sure if we can safely rule out that normal necromancers could raise a bunch of zombies. We just don’t see them do it. It may just be for ethical reasons, rather than it being beyond their power.

We do know that necromancers can summon the spirits of the dead, and commune with them. I see no reason why raising a zombie would be any more difficult than raising a normal minion.

Or if not ethics, just because they don’t want to upset people, and end up with a bunch of angry villagers with pitchforks and torches banging on their door.

You know, it’s kind of ironic, but some of the dislike I see for Trahearne seems to be born of envy. The mentors are more likeable, perhaps because they are more like equals. Trahearne does come across as a bit aloof, and he gets special treatment (and a special sword).

And the players, ironically, are acting just a little bit like Caderyn, and Scarlet in their jealousy of the firstborn. I see a lot of “I should be the hero” and “I want to be the leader”.

And to pile some more irony on, the sin of pride, a common storyline is a cliche of biblical proportions, literally. The fall of Lucifer is archetypical.

To see players, actual people, acting like cliches, in story of cliches, in a genre of cliches… … words fail me.

“Theories are only such after taking a hypothesis and finding evidence to support it. "

You can’t be serious. Did you even read my posts? I count six posts where I specifically reference lore evidence and then develop my hypothesis from that evidence.

No, what you have done is made an observation, based a theory on it, and then failed to test it against other known facts. The failure to test it is a fundamental omission.

And when people do compare your hypothesis to other known facts, and find that there are gaps in your theory, you don’t discard the theory, you just support it with more and wilder theories.

Google the phrase “turtles all the way down”. That is what you are building.

Tipper, I don’t see how you can call it a “conversation” if you take umbrage at every counter argument.

You argue that anything hypothetical is possible, but you insist that you are right, and that there is no room for doubt.

You seem to argue that the lack of evidence against something is evidence for that thing. Several of your arguments exclude any middle ground. You posit alternatives that are nothing but straw men.

If you want to post wild speculation without criticism, make a blog.

Quite frankly, you are beginning to sound like the stereotypical internet fringe theorist, decrying the “establishment” for suppressing his ideas. Turing this into an attack on Konig is hardly helping your case, when most of what he is doing is pointing out simple facts.

Theory: Centaurs in Maguuma

in Living World

Wanderer.3248

Going by season 1, we should expect to see new enemies, or at least new factions, rather than just old ones. The living story mobs have almost always been souped up; Molten alliance, Aetherblade, Toxic Alliance, Watchnights etc.

If we do see old races like Centaurs, I’d be surprised if they didn’t have new models.

Why?

in Living World

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

They weren’t mounts. Mounts aren’t Zone specific and don’t have damage skills. Mounts are used to get from point A to point B quicker than on foot. We don’t need mounts because we have Waypoints.

All you see is the movement mechanic. I guess you can’t grasp that a player would want a mount to.. gasp… ride around on. Options, immersion, RP?

Done well a mount can be immersive. For instance the horses in Red Dead Redemption were well done, and fully integrated into the game. For instance you didn’t magically appear on your horse, you whistled, and the horse came running, and if you timed it right you could vault into the saddle and ride off without stopping. The animation was very smooth.

Your could fight from the horse, And there were tricks you could do, like lasso people and drag them behind your horse. Even taming horses had a part in the game, and trying to stay on a wild horse was a mini game in itself.

On the other hand if the animation was of the standard used in WoW, with no combat and no options but sitting there, then it’s not worth having.

If the Pale Tree had not been influenced by Ventari, perhaps they wouldn’t be fighting him. If they had all turned out like the Nightmare Court with the tree functioning closer to whatever her darker version was ‘supposed to be’ (since the Nightmare Court believe she’s supposed to be something darker), they could easily have ended up obeying him.

Without Ventari’s tablet to rebel against, Caderyn wouldn’t have created the nightmare court. Trahearne and Caithe would probably have have sided with him, and the Sylvari would be at war with the Asura.

There would be no Pact, Zhaitan would still be alive. Orr would still be brimming with undead. Quite possibly the bloodtide coast would have been overwhelmed. Lions arch would be on the brink.

Scarlet would never have had any Asura training, and would likely have sided with Caderyn against the Asura. Mordremoth would still be slumbering, but when he did awake, there would be no Pact to stop it, and both the Asura and Sylvari would have been weakened by war.

BRHAM: “Unpredictable. Dangerous. She ran around attacking whole regions BECAUSE OF VOICES IN HER HEAD. Once we’re done here, I intend to FIND THOSE VOICES AND SHUT ’EM UP FOR GOOD.”

Several things confirmed.
- Mordremoth is the next target
- Mordremoth corrupts by means of mental telepathy
- Scarlet WAS Mordremoth’s corrupted Agent

Still doesn’t prove it was Mordremoth. And even if it was Mordremoth, it doesn’t prove she was corrupted.

There’s a big difference between vague hints and proof.

You might be surprised at the proportion of people on earth that don’t have access to electricity (25%), running water (26%), sanitation (e.g. sewers) (39%), or a telephone (25%).

Nationalism, socialism, and protectionism have ensured that first world countries have eliminated this sort of thing within their borders, but these concepts don’t exist in Tyria (that I’ve seen), so the poor rub shoulders with the rich.

People in Tyria, if they behave like humans through most of history, owe their allegiance to an order, a college, or a legion, or a crown, and not to their fellow humans (or Asura or whatever).

It’s a profoundly different outlook on the world. Just as most of the human race happily ignores the poorest parts of the world (ironically while wringing their hands about inequality at home), people in history would happily overlook the plight of people who weren’t of their class, religion, caste etc.

It’s a pretty bold statement to make that when a sleeping sylvari experiences nightmares, that’s something entirely different from the Nightmare, given the shared name and how little we know about how the sylvari sleep. You’re saying that ArenaNet introduced Mordremoth, a dragon that appears (and is suspected by players) to use Nightmare somehow, at almost the same time as some other entity which influences Scarlet using nightmares. I just don’t see that as plausible.

You don’t see someone having bad dreams as plausible? What an odd statement.

Not every dream is The Dream. The Dream isn’t a dream either.

And lastly, we still don’t know it’s Mordremoth. I mean seriously, evil creature in bad dreams is a pretty common story trope. Ever seen nightmare on elm street?

The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

in Living World

Posted by: Wanderer.3248

Wanderer.3248

If Mordremoth wakes up the regular Sylvari won’t become dragon minions just because he woke up.

Yeah, that’s the thing that needs to be stressed here. Sylvari from our Pale Tree are safeguarded by the Dream, heavily influenced by Ventari’s teachings. Even if there was some latent corruption, given the Pale Tree’s resistance to Nightmare, it’s unlikely our sylvari would be turned. However, other Pale Trees – and thus, other sylvari – without the moral anchor of Ventari’s teachings may be more susceptible, and if Mordremoth really needs minions, and has an understanding of their Dreams (unknown whether he does or not since we don’t know if he broke Scarlet’s mind), then it’s not far-fetched to see him corrupting them.

The question of whether even those sylvari will display physical corruption is another matter. Probably; there’s still some cool “evil plant” concept art out there, and it’s more than just the “evil clothes” worn by the Nightmare Court. I’m talking full-on, mossman, lurker in the swamp kind of evil plants.

So much of this is just speculation it borders on fan fiction.

Having Scarlet cut-off before she could say what her plans were wasn’t clumsiness, it was deliberate. It would have been easy for Scarlet to say “Mordremoth” or “a dragon” instead of “a new master”.

The writers were being intentionally vague. And possibly they were leaving themselves an out, in case they changed their mind.

If you say so…but believe me, this is how they work. They expect it’s going to be some huge reveal when everyone knows exactly what’s going to happen ahead of time. We don’t know all the details yet, but based on the lore hand-holding that we’ve come to expect, it’s virtually certain that it’s Mordremoth.

If I was a writer, I’d make the big reveal contradict everyone’s expectations, just to mess with them.
