What's the general consensus on Precursors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Precursor prices are tied intimately to T5 fine material prices (which turn into bulk rares to forge).

Precursors from collections will increase the supply, which will in turn increase demand for complementary commodities, namely T6 fine materials – which are also tied to the price of T5 fine materials. If the supply of precursors from collections is high enough, the price of T6 could force the price of forging a precursor even higher – which would crater the supply on the trading post, and raise its price.

It’s also possible that the supply from collections is modest, that T6 demand does not increase appreciably compared to that drop in demand for forging precursors, and the price of precursors on the TP drops correspondingly.

Basically there are a bunch of different moving pieces, and for different levels of the real price of collection precursors you could see the price of TP precursors go up or down.

I agree, t5 mats are probably the best indicator for precursor prices. The supply of precursors from loot drops cant really be influenced by the player base but the rate of forged precursors can. After the HoT announcement, many said that precursor prices will crash but it didnt happen. The lower prices in january were subject to the big influx of cheap t5 snowflakes, which since then has dried out and prices stabilized again. Silverwastes farming still gives a high influx of t5 mats but it remains to be seen, if that high influx continues, once HoT goes live and the mayority of the player base migrates to the jungle of maguuma. Of course, it is an lvl 80 zone but will the old t5 mats still drop there in abundance to support cheaply forged precursors? Or will the loot tables introduce new mats (which I think), which are needed to craft the new legendaries/precursors?

Another big source of precursors are rare weapons from drops, which atm have a big faucet from the daily chests of world bosses. But how many people will still run the WBT when HoT comes out and how much rare weapons will drop in Maguuma?

I also think, it will take quite some time, until people start completing precursor collections in order the sell the precursors, so there wont be a sudden influx, once HoT releases. People will use their mastery points for different masteries, other than precursors, unless they intent to use that precursor for themselves.

Just for some info and to illustrate the connection between the value of t5 mats and precursors, I attached some graphs of the prices of 2 precursors (dusk and legend, upper screenshots) and 2 t5 mats (claws and totems, lower screenshots) from January14 until now:

If the supply of precursors from collections is high enough.

Supply wouldnt increase because of that. I have little doubt that precursor hunt weapons will be accountbound…

He meant the demand for t6 mats that is needed to forge the account bound precursors from collections to legendaries.

Because the mystic forge is designed as a huge gold sink. Nothing more, nothing less. That and some people really like gambling.

Changing any of this drastically would require alternate gold sinks to get created.

I have yet to manage to give Zomorros gold donations.
Its a material sink.

An indirect gold sink then? When someone buy or crafts 1000 gold worth of weapons to throw in there, they start off with an equity (if that’s the right word) of 1000 gold worth of items and may end up with zero equity.

That’s my Point!
Why do we have to buy/get random crap and fill our inventory, just to make this thing work.

Because some mf recipes only require 1/10 or 1/5 of a skillpoint.

This will be changed in HoT anyways.

In that case the TP would be the gold sink and it would only destroy 10% of the gold.
The player would also end up with at least 1 item in the end, so the equity cant be zero.

cloth & leather market solution

Honestly Wanze I was going off personal anecdotical experience of recently caping all of the crafting professions & I hadn’t looked up any numbers.
AS may have more actual raw gold cost but it mitigated by the fact that Metal comes from gathering and salvaging while Leather & Cloth are salvage only.

I think we can all agree that high level Leather items being vender trash because they are not worth salvaging in not working as intended.

I can see the price of damask slowly increasing over time to 20+ gold a bolt if something doesn’t change.

& honestly “solution” was a poor choice words for the Thread title but that was the 4th version because the others were too long. maybe idea or suggestion would have been a better choice.

So why make the effort to present a solution, if you havent proven yet that there is a problem?
Leather and cloth doesnt come from salvage only, compared to metal, they are on the loot table of alot of containers and loot bags. During Season 2, Anet introduced alot of new cloth faucets, like the generosity reward from the star of gratitude, the gift from mawdrey, bandit chests or salvageable wintersday clothing, just to name a few. Before that, we paid a silver more per silk scrap compared to now.

The high price for damask is intended because its the only ascended mat that is used for all three armor weights.

Should have kept that bag of coins. It got quite heavy.

What is so special about them that people are willing to pay that much for them? The max they will ever give are 1.5 gold

Nothing special, you just wait until someone else comes around who is willing to pay more gold than you did for it.

I dont know how you come to the conclusion that tailoring needs adjustment, as armorsmith is the most expensive one from 0-500, with 73g compared to 68/69g for leatherworker/tailor.
Tailoring might be the most expensive from 0-400 but the cheapest from 400-500.

Total values taken from gw2crafts.net

Seriously? The cost difference between 400-500 leveling between tailor and armorsmith is completely negated by the cost difference making ONE ascended chestpiece once you do hit 500. The extreme costs of Damask are just killer.

It’s really just the pants and chest that are major since you need 4 damask for the main component which is around 50g by itself, while the equivalent piece on armor is around 15 g and leather more like 5-6g. Don’t tell me that’s fair.

But the OP said the bigger problem is the higher leveling costs for tailor, which i simply proved to be false.

The bigger problems it solves is the Elonian Leather market and tailoring’s leveling cost.
The increased demand in lower leathers should add about 1 gold to the the price of Elonian leather making it cheaper to make instead of buy. getting it inline with the Deldrimor Steel market would be the goal here.

This would also get leveling tailoring back in line with the other armor professions for newer players.

I dont know how you come to the conclusion that tailoring needs adjustment, as armorsmith is the most expensive one from 0-500, with 73g compared to 68/69g for leatherworker/tailor.

Imagine Keeper was Zerker

Wanze.8410

I just noticed that I had a few Keeper’s Recipes on an old character, I was really surprised at the selling prices. I feel like I just found lots of treasure in my attic, whose prices will keep going up over time. The name fits too, Keeper’s(lol).

So let’s imagine for a second that Keeper stats were buffed and became more favorable than Zerker stats.

There are only 2 Keeper Visor Recipe available on TP at 299g-399g
There are only 6 Keeper Breastplate Recipe available on TP at 279g-339g
There are only 7 Keeper Warfists Recipe available on TP at 297g-490g
There are only 3 Keeper Tasset Recipe available on TP at 400g-890g
There are only 7 Keeper Pauldrons Recipe available on TP at 419g-750g
There are only 2 Keeper Greaves Recipe available on TP at 339g-396g

1) The total price to buy just the recipes to gear a Heavy would be a minimum of 2033g and a maximum of 3264g
2) There would only be 2 accounts in the whole of GW2 that could buy/craft maxed best armor on a Heavy(excluding those who already have the recipes to craft such armors), provided someone doesnt manipulate the market and buy all of them, and sell them 4000g apiece.

Would you then finally consider the game a grind?
Would you then finally consider the game pay2win?

I think we are lucky that Keeper stats are bad.

i probably have a couple of hundred keeper recipes left in my bank, so have plenty other players.

Junk items on BLTC

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Has anyone noticed that there are some “junk” items on the BLTC? Mostly in taking about the Favor of the bazaar and Favor of the pavilion. Are the two that spring to mind, there are probably more if I looked in to it more, and I was wondering if they will ever be used again? I mean there are quite a few on the TP, and no market for them as they are a “dead” currency.

Thoughts on this anyone?

As already mentioned, those still have kittene but there are plenty others, for example the mats that were used to craft the mystic forge conduit or the arcane mats you used to craft pvp items.

However, those items dont do any harm, if all, they act as a gold sink, if people want to trade with them. So i dont see why they should dedicate dev time to delete those items.

Correct me if im wrong but i think all ingredients for cactus soup can be obtained in game without having to use the trading post.

So how exactly do those that flip the mats for it in any way stop you from harvesting those mats?

You could also use bowls of black pepper cactus salad, which gives the same buffs, costs only 32s and 154 karma to craft and lasts for 60 min instead of 30.

PSA on Gem Prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Could somebody please explain the supply and demand thing to me regarding gems please as i many be wrong but if gem prices are based on supply and demand then the cost would surely be the same.

Also supply and demand would surely only truly happen if players sold and bought with other players no?

I may be wrong but when gems are sold are they not sold back to anet? Because if not then there must be players buying gems at the “sell” rate no?

So I must be right by assuming anet buy them cheap and sell them high.

I admit I don’t fully understand the anet system on gems, but my points are economically valid I feel.

I think it would be easier to assume for you that whenever someone buys something in the gem store, those gems are destroyed and whenever someone buys gems with cash from Anet those gems are newly created.
However, if you buy some gems with cash, those gems dont enter the gem exchange or in any way influence the gold/gem ratio, just like the gold in your acount wallet.

For simplicity lets assume there are 1000 each gold and gems in the exchange and 1 gold is worth 1 gem.

Now a player buys 500 gems with 500 gold (there is a 15% tax, so he would only get 425 gems).

Now there are 500 gems left in the exchange but 1500 gold, which would mean that the new ratio would be 1 gem/3 gold.

Good for someone, who wants to buy gold, bad for someone who wants to buy gems.

GW2Shinies using Transactions API

This information is very relevant, even if you’re not a power trader. Right now, it’s a pain to find that information for each transaction.

Check out this baby and see if it’s of any use to you. http://mayumi.fi/gw2tp/[/quote]

Your app looks interesting but for power trader use its not efficient because it only lists your last 50 listings/buy orders and I have more than that.

The bank screen thingy looks intriguing but I dont really know what info it will give you as I couldnt manage to upload a valid screenshot yet.
Might be because i only tried my guild bank and not my material storage.

What kind of info would it give me? Personally, I would like an app that lets me upload a screenshot of my bank/gbank/mat storage and it lists the different items, amounts and values.
I would see problems though for items that share the same icon, like recipes (which i have alot of).
I guess correct data could only be obtained via API, not through screen shots, but im not sure, if the new guild API for example will let get info about the items stored in the guild bank.

I dont want to get too off topic here, so I would suggest to make a new thread to introduce your app and ask for feedback.

Some more feedback:

The flipping section of the overview is the most interesting to me, apart from the amount of taxes i paid and the overall value of my listings.
It would be nice to see your profit percentage on flipping in the overview, so basically
(total profit/total cost)*100

Also, if you go into the specific overview of your flips, history or current listings, it would be nice to have more filter options, basically the ones you also have on the regular tp ui.
That would enable me to check how much of a certain item or item group i flipped.

Dye price drops in TP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Have dyes suddenly becoming more readily available in the last couple of weeks? TP prices seem to have plummeted on the more expensive ones (e.g. Celestial has gone down by 50g).

During recent updates, Anet always changed the possible contents of Black Lion Chests, adding new items, like home instance nodes, mail carriers, exclusive dye sets etc.

That resulted in more blcs being opened and als more unidentified dyes and dye packs adding to the general supply.

A couple of weeks back, I crafted 100 unidentified gray dyes, after i saw, how much some dyes have risen in value. I got2 celestial and 1 abyss dye out of it and made a decent profit. I havent crafted any dyes since and 100 isnt a good sample size but i would assume that those that bought up celestial dyes to increase the price didnt factor in the average crafting value of them. They got too greedy and some other players started crafting celestial dyes en masse and undercut them.

The rise in value of coriander lately is definately related to crafting dyes.

Exotics for globs of dark matter for ascended stuff and ectos will drop too.

As to higher chance, well I don’t know, but it is not worth it to buy or salvage exotics just for ectos.

Crafted exotic armor has highest bids of a little over 40s, and those are profitable to salvage for ectos/orichalcum, even without profiting from the dark matter you get beside that.

At first glance this looks really nice!
I was very interested in my tax report, a pity that the API only tracks transactions for 90 days

Anyways, I appreciate your work, if there is an item in the gem store you would like as a gift, please let me know.

Here my tax report of the last 3 months from my trading account.

GW2Shinies using Transactions API

I meant that I want to see how my offer compares to offers by other players.

I made a mockup of what I meant, in case you still don’t get it. See the attached image.

In this image, I’m selling a Bandit Trident for a little over 1 gold. I started this auction 1 week ago. Over the last 7 days, the market has moved, and the top selling offer is now below 1 gold.

This information is very relevant, even if you’re not a power trader. Right now, it’s a pain to find that information for each transaction.

As a workaround, gw2tp also shows listings and buy orders:

[TP] How much listings/transactions you have?

I have had in the last 90 days (Sunday, February 22, 2015 to Saturday, May 23, 2015):

Sell: 9,638 completed
Buy: 153,629 completed

Though the last 40 or so days I have backed almost completely off of the TP due to waning interest and lack of things that appeal to me to spend my accrued coin on.

Enko, not sure if this is something you are asking, but you can manually edit the URL where the view=150 is designated and edit that to skip ahead to a much farther page instead of going in groups of 10. Can skip right to 700 and if there are no results, back it up a bit until you find your last page.

That’s what I did to get my 2443 pages that I listed above.

I guess you either craft alot rare inscriptions/weapons or you are the one who bought all the black lion chests

Silver, Gold, and Platinum speculation

I highly doubt anyways that gold/silver will spike much, if jeweller 500 ever comes around due to the amount of supplies stored in peoples banks.

gem stones (upgrade compenents) and dust will have a bigger spike, i would assume.

exquisite chrysocola jewels are still available for about 1/3 of their crafting value on tp, as they need 1 ecto and some ori to craft.

For buy transactions, I have 2443 pages at 200 entries per page starting May 9, 2015 at 10:15am. So 488600 buy transactions completed.

For sell transactions, 65 pages at 200 entries per page starting Feb 18, 2015 at 3:38pm. Only 13000 sell transactions listed.

Would love it if we could get a full transaction record downloadable as a CSV file or something.

Yeah, i hope that they add some more filter options for the trading history on that site, or implement an easy way to get the data into a spreadsheet.

Would love to calculate how much the value of my sold/bought items were during the last 90 days.

Tax reports!

I selected historical with 200/page and only showed 9 pages. It can’t be all because the oldest one is a Large Skull for 32 silver, not the low level stuff I would have been selling

It only tracks the last 90 days apparently.

I guess so. OP was talking about “how much listings/transactions do you have” and listings back to 2013. I thought it was information from this site.

listings have no time limit, so it shows all listings i made on the tp that havent sold, even from 2013.
just completed transactions (sold/bought) are limited to the last 90 days.

With the newly released account API keys, you are now able to pull your trading post history and current listings without being in game. That also gives you the opportunity to calculate easily how much listings/transactions you have overall/over a period of time because it lists 50/100/200 entries per page, depending on how you set the filter.

One site that will do that for you is:

http://www.gw2shinies.com/account/index.php (others might be available)

You simply have to create a free account on that website and give it permission to pull your account trading post API by creating a key on the gw2 website and using it for your login.
https://account.guildwars2.com/account/api-keys

Ever since the rework of the in game trading post UI, it was very hard to count your current listings and transactions because they werent grouped on pages anymore but instead you just loaded more on the same window.

As a big trader, i was quite interested in how much listings and transactions I actually have now. While you can track all your listings and buy orders without time limit, your past buy and sell transactions are only tracked for a period of 90 days.

Currently I have 2500 listings on the tp, the oldest one from dec 2013 ( i played since head start).

In the last 90 days, I had 42k buy transactions and 9k sell transactions completed.

Just wondering what numbers other players come up with.
