SoS. Cuz no matter the circumstances, they’ll attack whatever they want, whenever they want, and won’t care. They will bash their heads against a keep/tower/camp for hours, even if they never get it, it doesn’t seem to matter to them. They are the most persistent players I have ever seen.

Skills can be learned, persistence is a trait a person has or doesn’t have. Although their play level is lower, they have the potential to be very deadly.

I sincerely hope none of it is based on achievements. We got a lot of PvE players clogging up WvW hunting these achievements and wasting our time and resources. They shouldn’t get an additional reward for that.

It does NOT show who contributed. We had people standing almost afk at merc camps in qued ebg. Those people were not helping ANYTHING.

Payback for what?

He’s saying they believe SoR and BG are guilty of 2v1 vs JQ in week 1 (since JQ had easy matchups the rest of seasons). With this belief in mind, they plan to bury SoR as payback (since they can’t beat BG at this point, as BG already has enough points to win)

I think the real questions are:
-Will SoR step up this week?
-Will TC take pity on SoR and allow them to tie?

Personally I hope SoR steps up, and TC plays hard, let’s see what happens!

Just wondering if anyone will be playing some Pistol/Pistol after the update. The initiative regen base is going to help it out a lot, and I’m hoping it will be enough to make p/p viable.

P/P is the rabbit I can never catch. No matter what they change, I still cannot find builds that allow for top tier dueling, there’s always a build or profession that does it better. Fingers crossed.

I got my captures in the first week and a half. If you play as much as you say you do, it shouldn’t have been an issue. I agree that living world should not be in WvW though.

Remember also, to get points for the achievement:
1. Camp must have GRAY axes. Decapping one that is already controlled DOESN’T count.
2. Your server doesn’t need to capture it, any of the three can. BUT you must have gotten credit for killing at least one mob in it for your server (make sure you we within the radius of the event. You will see the bar for your server go up a little)
3. If you allow for the other server to capture it, then you can decap it whenever you like. This means you can capture it more often. If you capture it, you have NO IDEA when the enemy might decap it.

I was quite pleased with Seasons 1. It was a bit disappointing that SoR gave up (even though they had the potential AND the coverage to fight BG and JQ). Now their server is going to die, which is unfortunate. It was also disappointing that JQ chose to not show up, despite their equal coverage, we could have had some really great fights.

The fact that they added the ability for us to control boon sharing and combo fields was a HUGE step for WvW. Also the MASSIVE reduction to “skill lag” was fantastic, and has made WvW infinitely more enjoyable.

In hindsight:
-Matches need to not be RNG, JQ had a pretty easy time through leagues, facing t2 servers more than SoR and BG.
-It’s painfully obvious when playing T2 servers that we need to do something to split pve and wvw servers up so that wvw population can be regulated better.
-NO LIVING STORY IN WVW, especially not during leagues. These toxic things are stupid.
-I still think dolyaks should be able to be upgraded to have more defenses, HP, and armor. It’s silly how easy it is to kill 1 dolyak, even when it’s defended and you’re outnumbered by the defenders.
-better rewards (Still have yet to see the rewards, but I am not expecting much judging from the past, I could be surprised though!)

When no tag is present, you and whatever friends you can gang up with should:
1. Flip camps and set supply traps.
2. Run supply to your objectives.
3. Build defensive siege.
4. Turtle until help arrives.
5. Flip bloodlust when possible.

The hammer dmg decrease is to be expected (I play a dps hammer build, as well as most other builds) and the stuff I can get away with is ridiculous. I can 1v3 and kill them all. I can sometimes 1v5 if there are a few bads mixed in, or glassy players. Too much CC in addition to dmg, something had to go. I’m glad it is going to be less dmg, and not less CC’s. Although I wish they had fixed the vertical miss issue with earth shaker before lowering damage….. It’s hard to say whether something is balanced or not when a GLARING bug prevents it from even landing much of the time.

Not sure where the justification for longbow dmg decrease is. Combustive shot and arcing arrow already require a good amount of skill and/or combos to pull them off to their full potential.

Oh this “everyone should get the same prize” argument drives me batty lol.

Everyone had equal opportunity to transfer to another server if the prize was the more important thing to them than the server itself. There was even a sale leading up to the league launch, with some servers even free (hint: Piken was ranked 3rd in EU, and at this announcement was medium population server and was free to transfer to).

There were quotes from Devon (I’ve repasted them so many times, I’ll just tell you go to look at his posting history starting Sept. 1st — nearly two months before the leagues started), that outline that indeed wherever your server winds up, you will get a reward based on that final rank.

This means that everyone had all the information they needed to make a decision that suited them — be it reward and first place (which was a gamble, which server would take first in the various leagues, subsequently making you work for your server to ensure that happened in the lower tiers — or stack up on a T1 server and pick your horse) — OR be it community and server pride. Some folks were lucky to have both. But the key is you had a choice. And even then, some of those choices meant not a nickel out of your pocket to do.

So please stop saying everyone should get the same reward. They shouldn’t. This is a competition.

Stop using intelligence and common sense to form statements! This is the internet, if you aren’t going to be irrational and illogical, please don’t post!

I dislike this idea very strongly and highly disapprove. Different classes are fun because they are unique from other ones. If they started allowing every class to use every weapon, not only would you get silly things like warriors using focus and scepters, but you would run into many weapons that would be incredibly similar to other weapons of a different class. The uniqueness of your class would then be nullified.

Do a few classes deserve another weapon or 2? Yes I think so. I think engineer deserves a 1h hammer, maybe 2h. I think engi, thief, and ranger deserve a crossbow. I think warrior and necromancer deserve a great axe. I think warrior deserves a polearm. Thief could get a billyclub. Ranger could get a rifle. Mesmer could use mh pistol and a dagger. Necro a scythe.

It would be nice to reward the people who use traps, and siege with some more WXP. Often when a tower wall gets trebbed down, and your server captures it, you don’t even get points for the take, not even a bronze event! It would be nice to start getting world xp for things like:

Trapping enemies with supply traps, wxp recieved is determined by amount of supply drained.

Supply Cow Drain, wxp determined by amount drained.

Depot Supply Drain via Trebuchets, wxp for each hit that drains supply.

It would also be nice to see some more HUD displays for things like this, showing how much you drained, when your trap goes off, supply hits from a treb shot, etc.

biggest mistake they made with WvW was no loot upon leaving… you should never lose out on loot or a chance at loot because you get killed inside a keep, etc. You should automatically get all of the loot you missed upon leaving the worlds and zoning back to LA.

I dunno if I would call them try hards, but they were doing their best. Also I have been in the zerg a few times and I run zerk. “nothing but PVT zergballs” seems that’s already been proven incorrect!

I bet you were one of the “Beastgate” that dropped 20 people to gank 5 at fight club. Or maybe a 20 man group wasn’t zerg enough for you. I think Blackgate doesn’t quite understand fight club yet.

The last time I was at the windmill was when I dueled and defeated all Tempest Wolves duelers with my ranger hyrbid beastmaster build (retired it months ago). That was like…. 4-5 months ago I think.

I bet you are one of those guys that assumes things incorrectly about other people because you’re a poor judge of character.

Ok there has been a lot of confusion lately regarding the question if this new arena is going to be some kind of a separate instance or part of the WvWvW map (borderland) itself. And will the players that enter the map actually take up place into the regular WvWvW queue?

Anet said you would be able to get into it from the WvW menu. Other than that I don’t know.

It’s a pure fight to the death who is better/tougher/stronger, last team standing where the only advantage is skill.

You just pointed out its main flaw. It becomes street fighter, who can combo better and faster, without much more to it. The intellectual level is lowered. It becomes more twitch and reaction based, and less tactic based. You establish a starting tactic, but if it fails, basically the fight is already over. You still need to know how to counter enemies, take advantage of enemy mistakes, but the global level of thinking is much less than if terrain were involved.

GvG is like playing CoD or CS. Everyone has same weapons, everyone shoots at each other, person who aims best and fastest wins, typically. Adding terrain would be like changing over to battlefield, where there are vehicles to worry about, anti vehicle infantry, stationary weapons, and a changing environment. There would also be some minor roles pop up, like distraction/harass.

Or here’s another example: GvG is like drawing in MS paint, it doesn’t have many options, it’s limited. If they added terrain and structures to GvG it would be like using photoshop, where you have layers, and options, and can change things on the fly easier.

The argument that GvG on flat ground is more skill and tactic based than if they added terrain and structures is… just not an argument. It’s painfully obvious that adding more things creates more strategy and tactics, and up both the skill and intelligence level. It’s not an insult to GvG players that are currently playing, it’s just what it’s currently limited to.

First place servers dont need the help, they are perfect the way they are.

So you want to promote not showing up to get better rewards? Turn the game into who can do worse? Keep the ideas coming….

Personally I liked his idea. I mean, the gold will help those servers buy some rare or exotic gear. They could also use some of it to hire a build crafter for their guilds.

Or they could use it to buy guilds.

Awww I’m very disappointed. It has no dynamics, it’s just flat ground. That lowers the strategy level significantly. No terrain….. Oh well. Maybe they will add more areas eventually for the more hardcore GvG players.

I think it looks awesome, if you claim to be a hard core GvG player, you can not, not like this, even if it’s just a stepping stone in the right direction, whats wrong with flat ground? u wanting places to cap and hold or something? lol. Thats what that spvp crap is for, or do u like to hide among the trees at the windmill? Perhaps your visions of GW2 GvG, is slightly different from the type of GvG we have on EU servers, which is my mistake and apologize ofc, you should also have your opinion, as Anet do need to please both sides of the pond.

From an EU GvG players perspective you done a really good job there Anet, decent in size (from what i could see) and really happy it’s flat ground, no structures or obstacles and in the style of an arena (where gladiators would normally clash heads), which is exactly what most of us wanted. But most of all you have listened to a community that was formed (weather you think that large or small) within a game, and provided a few things to accommodate us in 1 single patch. An area large enough for us to GvG. Removed a Buff that made our GvG matches unfair. And plenty of room for our spectators, and further more stopped any community whining about queues because of GvG’s taking place.
So thank you very much, and if some are ungrateful so be it, but i can assure u most of us are grateful that u have in some ways listened to our voices and done something for us.*

Cant wait, there are plenty of big guilds in the coming match ups to take advantage of this area. EU Silver League is gonna violate the kitten out of this in the first week lol

What would be great idea in future is if we could face guilds from within our region not just our match up, and even face guilds from ur own server, i can think of a few guilds on home server i’d like to clash heads with

1 last request if you haven’t already thought of it, any chance of a merchant, an armor repair guy and a BLTP guy near the arena? after a few GvG’s bags fill fast and armor does get damaged from time to time. Be a shame to have to map out and back in when u run out of canisters etc.

As I said later, it’s a good step for GvG and it’s leaps and bounds better than the current way people are having to GvG. My comment about the terrain and dynamics is that if you fight on a flat piece of ground, it restricts your options for combat. It basically turns into hammers vs hammers. Which is very stale from a competitive standpoint. There are no choke points, no high ground, no dips, no corners, no walls, no falls. You don’t need a capture point to make dynamics, all you need is terrain.

Many WvW players like to poke fun at GvG, myself included, for its lack of dynamic gameplay. It’s just not yet to a place where it can be considered fully competitive. The common joke that comes up is that it’s just a bunch of people running at each other on flat ground with hammers. We know it’s not true, but its a fun joke to make. At the same time, it also isn’t COMPLETELY distant from the truth…. Go take a look at some GW1 gvg videos. Still plenty of space to move around, but there was terrain, and chokes, etc.

Any server that hits first place should be deleted and its guilds should be randomly distributed between other servers. For reals! God I’m so good at balance, I’ll take $10000 for that, ANet!

Very good idea! That way we have only two tier 1 server and they stomp all tier 2 who get to play with them. Very much good idea.
