First 10 minutes wasted on some childrens coloring book no one cared about, gg.
I’m going to chat with Expansion Content Designer Nellie Hughes and Expansion Systems Designer David Webb about the Mastery system. We’ll get an overview of how the system works and what it does
^An outright lie, we saw gliding yes but we saw absolutely nothing about the mastery system itself.
The gliding and new zone was nice to see but the stream was mediocre at best.

I never understood why that thing is so expensive. I can get other exotic amulets with the same stats at a fraction of the price. And it’s not like this amulet is a vanity item, no one but you can even see it. Hell even ascended trinkets are easier to obtain (laurels, guild commendations).
~Sincerely, Scissors
Look, Eir’s bow, Braham’s armor, Kasmeer’s staff, etc.. None of those are really relevant in lore. I tried to explain this view in my first post, but just for clarification:
You can’t compare Magdaer, Sohothin, Caladbolg, Scepter of Orr to those. They play completely and utterly different parts in lore. That’s why I think it’s much more easy to forgive them being mass produced (for mechanics reasons) and sold through the gem store.
As for the thousands of Magdaer/Sohothin replicas: I am in fact surprised that it doesn’t bother me. I think it may be because of the quite compelling piece of lore that’s been written about the swords (and their surroundings). They have existed for over 1000 years, which both makes the “replica story” more believable, and less damaging.
The fact that the replicas were there from the very start also helps I think. We’re first learned to accept Fiery Greatswords as a very common sight. Then the veil is uncovered and we’re given this magical story of “the true source”.I don’t think that the story will work the same way if you tell it the other way around. Caladbolg is way too fresh from the tree yet to have the lore dept required to balance out hundreds of replicas. I’m afraid it will feel like a total sell-out, and damage the story potential of Caladbolg.
Don’t know if any of that makes sense to you. Every story can be great if told correctly. I just think gem store Caladbolgs would be a very hard story to tell at all.
You make a good point. But still it wouldn’t surprise me if replica’s of Caladbolg will one day appear in player hands. There are already so many weapons from known characters available to players, If ’Trahearne’s Greatsword’ one day appears in the gemstore I wouldn’t mind.
Even if there is no story behind it I would just make something up myself. Merchants decided to make replica’s of the legendary sword Caladbolg because they believed it would sell like hot cakes.
but yeah it is probably for the best if it doesn’t appear in player hands.

This was being posted long before the announcement of HoT.
That’s why it’s called a prediction.
My point was why do we need another thread on this subject?
Because necroing old threads is frowned upon.
~Sincerely, Scissors
Its too bad there wont be a Season 3 , HoT is basically closing whats going on with mordremoth.
Funny thing, the expansion never mentioned anything about defeating, or even encountering Mordremoth LOL.
I think we wouldn’t be defeating Mordremoth any time soon.
I thought the same. And it’s not the first time we’ve seen something like this. Cataclysm and Deathwing anyone?
I think we will defeat Mordremoth in this one. At the current rate it will already take more than 10 years to kill all elder dragons, I doubt Anet would drag that out even further.
~Sincerely, Scissors
No, Caladbolg cannot be replicated because it is literally a chunk of the Pale Tree, forged into a sword by the Pale Tree herself.
Yes it can.
Read what I said. A replica does NOT have the same origins as the original, it only looks the same. A replica of Caladbolg could easily have been made from any tree, painted, decorated and carved to look exactly like Caladbolg even though it is not really Caladbolg.
It would just be a wooden weapon that looks exactly like Caladbolg but was created differently and does not posess the same magical properties. In the same way the Fiery Dragon Sword replica’s don’t contain the same magical properties as Magdaer and Sohothin.

If they can add all that chinese stuff for China then they can add Cantha too. They probably won’t but they can no longer draw the “asians don’t want it” card.
They even added asian looking builds at the Crown Pavilion now. You know, that place that used to be the canthan district but got scrapped?

Didn’t know people hated the shoulders.
For me the shoulders are the only good part, but since it’s an outfit and I can’t wear only the shoulders it’s useless to me.
~Sincerely, Scissors
All I’m interested in are those dragon shoulders.
Also I don’t like the fact the female/male versions are completely different.
I fully support differences between male and female armor, but in the end it should still be the same armor. But these are two completely different armors.. oh wait, I mean outfits.
~Sincerely, Scissors
It’s not the same weapon. Eir’s bow is in her hands.
Nope it’s in my wardrobe right now and on the tradepost. Unless of course, those are all replicas. And if Eir’s bow can be replicated, any weapon can.
But it’s just a bow and as such can be replicated.
And so can Caladbolg. Magdaer and Sohothin are legendary swords too (legendary as in lore significance, not rarity) and yet there are replica’s of it.
Eternity is a replica as well, as the Risen High Wizard at the Gates of Arah meta event was the first to wield that sword, and now many people created their own replica.
Making replica’s of special one of a kind weapons isn’t that weird. A replica is just a weapon that looks like the original, but doesn’t have the same origins/magical properties. There are even weapons like that in real life. There are stores where you can buy replica’s of movie/game weapons for either decorative or cosplay purposes.

First world problem. Worrying about a product for a company you own no part of.
Why are you worried about the expansion not being X. You act like worrying about it is going to have an impact on X happening or not.
Yeah how dare people discuss things on a forum.
Reread my post, I don’t say anything about not discussion it.
You are free to do whatever you want within the grounds of Arenanet’s rules and I am free to mock and criticize you. That is also part of a discussion (admittedly not very healthy discussion but this forum has never been about healthy discussion).
Criticising is indeed allowed, but mocking is not as it falls under the category of attacking, ridiculing or singling out members. Which is not allowed according to the code of conduct.
Just for clarification, the definition of mocking:
-To treat with ridicule or contempt
-to attack or treat with ridicule, contempt, or derision.
People often get away with it but it’s agains the code of conduct nonetheless. I admit I am guilty of this myself.

I prefer names that fit the lore and game, since I like to feel immersed. It’s impossible these days, of course, since the maturity level of players couldn’t get any lower.
So, sorry, I don’t find many of these to be “best” by a long shot.
Some are marginally amusing but the thing is, they reflect the fact that the people that the people who create them don’t care about the game, or the genre, or the effect they have on other players.
Oh please, get over yourself.
Just because we have a sense of humor and/or aren’t super serious RPers doesn’t mean we don’t care about the game or the genre.
You’re right on the last part though, I don’t care what kind of effect my characters’ names might have on you. Why should I? Seriously, find something else to get offended over… Geez.
On-topic:
One name that made me laugh hard was a sylvari named Super Saiyan Tree.
To be honest, I haven’t actually seen this player, but I know he/she exists because I came up with the idea and wanted to make a yellow/golden sylvari warrior with the long hairstyle, named Super Saiyan Tree, only to find out the name was already taken.
You do realize that comment was 2 years old right?

Luckily my drivers itself are unaffected and all my games run perfectly so I don’t really care. As long as I can still play my games and install driver updates without a fuss it’s all good.

Am I missing something? Has the OP actually experienced the new gliding system first-hand?
How is OP qualified to have an opinion on something they haven’t actually tried out?
Everyone on the Internet is a certified Armchair Expert on everything that ever existed and will ever exist on all earths that exist simultaneously in the multiverse. He’s just channeling his future other earth self that already played the beta. Just 3 earths away, my counterpart Michelle played Triforge’s League Wars 2 : Brain of Brambles beta last week. She wasn’t much of a fan of the gliding mechanic, but Gelatin Grape assured everyone that they purposely limited the gliding mechanic to prevent access to unfinished areas. So, there’s hope that it won’t totally suck!
Also, OP does have some very real concerns because in the old days of MMO’s (and still in some MMO’s today), there were O2 meters when underwater, limiting your time, which wasn’t fun. If its anything like that, its not going to be much fun either. Those concerns are valid, even if OP hasn’t played a beta, or seen any gameplay yet.
I’ve never tried mountain climbing, but, its totally valid for me to say that having to carry an oxygen tank while climbing to the top of Everest isn’t going to be any fun. Same thing here.

SaladbowlCaladbolg.if caladbolg isn’t the new legendary GS, i’ll be disappointed.
Please keep some weapons unique. If it plays an important and unique overarching role in lore, I think it should be kept that way. If “everyone” starts running around with Caladbolg copies, it really undermines its presence in the storyline.
(P.S. I’m ok with having Belinda’s GS, Braham’s armor etc. available in the gem store. Those items doesn’t play a central role in the story, at least not in the same way. Caladbolg is more of a character of its own. When I think about it though – strangely enough – Magdaer and Sohotin feels really legendary to me in spite of all the copies in gw1. :S)
the hundreds of players running around with fire dragon swords doesn’t bother you, but if caladbolg is copied, it’ll bother you?
The Fiery Dragon Swords are a lore-explained “Ascalonian made copies” of Sohothin/Magdaer, rather than the unique weapons themselves.
So why would it bother?
It’d be like everyone running around with the Scepter of Orr in GW1.
But in the end, does it matter? I mean, we have lightsabers.
Then what about Eir’s Bow?
It’s in the name. The weapon literally has no identity beyond it being the weapon Eir uses. The same can not be said for other legendary swords in myth and fiction (Caladbolg, Excalibur/Caliburn, Frostmourne, Ashbringer, so on).
The weapon is the same weapon Eir uses, so how can there possibly be more than one?
~Sincerely, Scissors
I can’t imagine we will get no content for 9 months… so what is next?
Most MMO’s have months, sometimes even years in between expansions. It’s nothing new. The GW2 community is just spoiled by Living Story.
~Sincerely, Scissors
There are two things happening here. 1) People didn’t pay attention to/didn’t know about what was outlined to be discussed at this POI and 2) People don’t care about point one.
You can still go look at the news announcement on the front page. It says “Heart of Thorns gameplay” – so how can you say people who expected to actually see some gameplay didn’t know what was going to happen?
The announcement has been made already. It’s time for the devs to stop treating any information on HoT like the nuclear launch codes. I love hearing about funny things that happen during the design and design philosophy and that stuff after I actually know what the design is and can make some guesses on the impact.
psst… maybe you should’ve clicked that link.
“They’ll venture into the Maguuma Jungle to show you one of the adventures we heard about earlier this week. Plus, they’ll discuss how some of the systems work.”

So…you guys want an MMO you can play forever, without a grind (time-sink) of any kind?
Methinks you will be waiting for a very long time.
Without a mandatory grind yes.
We don’t have to wait, we have been playing that game for years now, Guild Wars 2.
You grind for skins not for stats. Yes there is ascended but that only has a 5% stat increase so I can easily ignore that and just roll with Exotic, hell, you can even complete all the content on this game with Rare stats. As for these infusions, we don’t even know what they are yet. Let’s wait and see first.

Yes, they will probably lock guild halls behind the expansion. But that’s not a bad thing, its like…if I buys an ice-cream and you don’t. If you then try to take some of my sprikles/topping I would slap the kitten out of you. So just buy your own ice-cream so we can both enjoy the same thing =)
Yes and then watch those players leave the game. Guild Halls should not be gated, WvW maps definitely won’t be.
products cost money, not so hard a concept. If you are leaving over the few bucks for an expansion, you probably aren´t an interesting customer anyway.

yea this whole game being pay 2 win locked is total bs. to even create a character i need to pay $40? that is completely rediculous. all the story and everything gated behind a $40 buy 2 play wall? oh wait thats how gw has always worked nvm.
