The whole “I will detain you against your will for your own safety” thing was disturbing too.
I admit that surprised me too.
But the fact like almost half of them turned out to be traitors justified it in the end. It was a good way to flush out the traitors. It was about time somebody did a clean up of this ‘ministry’, ever since the Personal Story it’s clear that the Ministry was pretty corrupt, this proved that.
I don’t get why there’s a Ministry to begin with, Kryta already has a Monarch.
Having two seperate governing bodies with their own armies leading a single nation is a recipe for disaster.

I must say that last fight was pretty ridiculous. You get CC’ed constantly, bombarded with conditions, there’s AoE’s EVERYWHERE (you might as wel not bother dodging them) and besides the boss there’s also a bunch of other mobs attacking you on top of what you’re already facing.
And all of that is happening in a tiny room.
I was fortunate to have a guardian with lots of heals, condition removal and other protective abilities, but kitten I can’t imagine what it must be like for some classes like Revenants (the class with like the worst healing and condition removal ever).
As for that special ability Caudecus keeps using, after setting the hotkey of that counter ability to a macro on my mouse it wasn’t much of a problem anymore.

In that Reddit post they were referring to the old/leaked version of Lake Doric, the one that has been around since launch.

Almost right.
So you were wrong then?
I predict we’ll get a new zone in the next episode.
If i’m wrong i’ll post a thread explaining I was almost right.
I do agree Jennah was pretty cool though.

PCs do not “die” – this is why the states are called downed and defeated, not downed and dead.

I’ve actually seen quite a lot of people defend anet too, if not more. What I’ve seen in the last few hours actually confirms my belief that Guild Wars 2 has a great community. Sure there are always people who complain, but no community is perfect.
The only issue I had personally was the lack of communication. Luckily O’brein eventually communicated to us where we stand right now and I’m very glad he did.

There is no “Tyria” to stay true to. There are no cultural leanings to slavishly hold on to.
Exactly. We are talking about a fictional universe that takes place in a medieval setting, yet we have people running around with ghetto blasters, 8-bit glowing weapons and quaggan backpacks lol.
Fashion/cultural rules don’t mean a thing in this game.

The problem isn’t that there are trench coats, or how they look.
The problem is that there are WAY TOO MANY, at least for medium armor. That is why so many people dislike them. Take a look at this gallery for example.
Almost every single armor in that gallery is a trench coat or skirt. What’s wrong with having some more pants like the Glorious Medium Armor? There needs to be more variety. We have enough medium armor Trench Coats.
Not to mention it doesn’t make sense for my stealthy and agile thief to wear a long and sluggish coat.

Practically everyone would like to see new armor sets. Currently, ANet says it takes them 8-9 months to release a full set of armor that’s similar across races, so we’d have to assume 12+ months for armor that’s distinct for each race. The community is already impatient at the pace of new armors; I can imagine we’d put up with additional delays.
Yeah .. thats why they started to develop the game 1960 already because else they
could have never provided us all the armor sets that were in the game at release
and those we got in the first year after relase.
I know right. Unless the armors are made by a single unpaid intern who only works when he decides he wants to, there’s no way one armor takes 12+ months to develop. That’s absolutely ridiculous. If that was true then the game would’ve taken decades to create.
Heart of Thorns which had about two new armor sets per armor class + Mistward armor would’ve taken like 7 years at least.
I guess ArenaNet is in possession of the TARDIS.

The attack is definitely at the east side.
This can clearly be seen from the angle at which the bloodstone projectiles fly towards DR. The palace, which lies north, is right of the dome. So the attack is coming from the right (east). (see pic 1).
It makes sense too because there’s a large lake there, which is kept in place by a dam, which is getting blown up, and we see catapults standing in a dried up lake near a town with docks and no water (see pic 2 and 3).

Will it be destroyed? Or will Queensdale just have a new temp look to it?
We have seen LA be destroyed before many times… I wish for once a major city fights back and says: Not today mother kittener
LA has been attacked many times, but it was only destroyed once. Every other attack was repelled. The same thing could just as easily happen here.

That was terrorism though, which is very hard to prevent,

We will rout this serpent out of our home!
Kryta will not be broken!
Divinity’s Reach WILL NOT FALL!Keep in mind: last time the Powers That Be™ declared that a City Would Not Fall©, Scarlet invaded Lion’s Arch.
That declaration was made by a bunch of pirates, what do they know :P
EDIT: Also LA was pretty much entirely made out of scrap wood, with barely any defenses to speak of. DR is a super fortress with a large army, watch knights and probably even airships (we know the humans have some).
Bring it on Caudecus!
Also lets not forget Scarlet came for the Leyline, she didn’t care about LA. She let her forces destroy as much as possible and keep us busy while she started drilling.
Caudecus doesn’t come to destroy, he comes to rule. He wants the throne, and by extension DR, for himself.

Edit: Also to add, it is NOT unprecedented for a playable races’ home city to be destroyed and never rebuilt. The Ascalonians lost their home city to the Charr.
I’m sorry but that’s a very flawed example.
The Ascalonians lost their home city in the transition from Gw1 to Gw2. Throughout the running of GW1, the ascalonians retained control of Ascalon, they lost the city in between the two games. So unless Anet is going to release Gw3 after this episode, it’s not the same.
But yes Ascalon did get destroyed and wasn’t rebuilt, but that was in a completely different game. Gw1 was a CORPG, it was basically a singleplayer game with an interactive lobby. Also it happened in the intro of the game, it wasn’t something that happened after Ascalon was already in-game for years.
EDIT: Also, in gw1 Ascalon was not the main capital city for human players (basically all players). It was Lions Arch.

Even if it hasn’t been done before, they could do it (and I personally would love it.) Humans could start out in refugee camps outside of DR or in the ruins of DR. We have had refugees in GW2 before.
I agree that would be pretty cool.
Just not forever. If it is then I’m definitely going to request a refund for the Royal Terrace Pass.
They would simply relocate the Royal Terrace just as they relocated all of the services of Lion’s Arch to Vigil Keep and gave us the Air Ship. The Royal Terrace could be moved to that walled town in South Queensdale or somewhere else suitable.
LA didn’t have an area that you needed to pay gems for. And LA was restored eventually, it was changed yes, but it wasn’t gone forever.
And simply relocating it won’t be enough. I could’ve gotten the airship pass, or the Lava Lounge, or even Noble’s Folly. But no, I got the Royal Terrace Pass because I like that area, I like how it looks and the fact it’s located in a beautiful capital city.
When anet changes the location it’s not longer the product I paid for.

Please for the love of sanity, destroy DR but DO NOT make us go through another city being rebuilt. Leave it destroyed!
You want one of the playable races without a capital city?
That is insane.Even if it’s getting destroyed (there’s no guarantee of that, DR has been attacked before)
of course they’ll rebuild it. And they should, the devs can’t leave one race without a capital city, it wouldn’t make sense. Not insane at all.
That’s how war works.Never rebuilding what you lost, even when you win, is how war works?
Even if that was true (it isn’t) this isn’t real life. It’s a game.Every race currently has a capital city, and it should stay that way.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against DR getting destroyed (even though I doubt it will happen). I’m just against never rebuilding it, that would be ridiculous.
When the frogloks kicked the trolls out of Grobb in EQ new troll players had to start in the Foreign Quarter of the Dark Elf city. When the trolls got it back new player frogloks had to start in a refugee camp in Rathe Mountains. That whole storyline took several years to play out and throughout there was always at least one playable race with no starting city of its own. Just saying there is precedent in the genre if not in this particular franchise…
I don’t see how something that happened in a different game has any bearing on what might happen in GW2. I mean I get what you are saying, it happened before in a game of the same genre, but EQ has a vastly different way of releasing new content and story. EQ is pumping out 29.99 to 39.99 dollar expansions like crazy, the kind of development I wish gw2 had.
Also this is a Living World S3 plot, which I doubt will take years to play out. The main plot of Guild Wars 2 is fighting the Elder Dragons, fighting White Mantle is a side plot. A very spectacular one I admit, but a side plot nonetheless.
Again I’m fine with it being destroyed, just not the “never rebuild it” part.

War destroys things, many times beyond repair.
Unless the entire land of Kryta gets sucked into a black hole, I doubt it will be damaged beyond repair.
Cities have been nuked and completely vaporized in our world, they were rebuild. Dozens of cities in europe were reduced to rubble in World War 2, they were all rebuild. I’m sure Kryta can do the same.

And yet the attack is clearly coming from the exact same area where Lake Doric is (was?) located. Though the lake is probably being drained because we see a large dam being destroyed in the trailer.
So even if Anet said that we won’t go to Lake Doric (I have seen no such statement) they didn’t technically lie. If the white mantle blow up the dam and drain the lake, there technically isn’t a lake anymore.
I believe there was a post from a dev on reddit that stated we were not going to get the lake Doric map.
Where that post is?….idk
Here’s that post, with the important line marked.
Note how they aren’t saying “Lake Doric” isn’t coming, but how -that map- isn’t.
Indeed, all they said that the map we saw in the leaked pictures is not the map we get in Episode 4. Because it’s a very old and scrapped map.
They never said “We are not going to lake doric”.
We just aren’t getting the old and scrapped version we saw before.

East most likely. Devs recently said they dont want to make maps related to lake doric anytime soon
Yep you are right, I did some further checking in the trailer and the attack is indeed on the east side.

Remember the last time the humans had to defend their main city?
The last time they had to defend their main city was from Scarlet in Season 1.
So yes I do remember, the humans repelled the attack and won.
Or do you mean the city before that? Ebonhawke? Which they also succesfully defended.
Or the one before that? Ascalon? Which the Charr will never be truly able to fully conquer thanks to the Foefire.
~Sincerely, Scissors
It seems DR is getting attacked at the eastern side.
There’s a large lake on the eastern side, which would make an attack from that side unlikely. Which is exactly why the White Mantle would attack there, The Seraph wouldn’t expect it.
Also that lake is only there because of a large dam, and we see a large dam getting destroyed in the trailer. In one shot we see catapults firing at Divnity’s Reach from an area that’s similar to Queensdale, but it’s not Queensdale. Not only that, we see what looks like a drained lake. There’s even a small town with docks, yet no water. From the direction the bloodstone projectiles are impacting DR (see last pic) it definitely seems the attack is coming from the east.

So according to Massively Overpowered, the next episode will be called ‘Head of the Snake’ and be released on the 7th of February.
Next week is shaping up to be a big one for multiple MMORPGs, Guild Wars 2 included: ArenaNet has made good on Mike O’Brien’s tease for the fourth episode of Living World Season 3 with the announcement that it’s landing on February 7th.
The episode’s called The Head of the Snake and will see “the advancement of the story as Queen Jennah summons players to her side, where they’ll act as her personal witness in uncovering the nest of corruption in Divinity’s Reach,” the studio says. “Along with The Head of the Snake will come the brand-new raid wing Bastion of the Penitent. The destruction of the Maguuma Bloodstone has opened a mysterious portal in Bloodstone Fen, and beyond it lies a sinister and ancient place with little chance of escape. This raid will provide players with four bosses to overcome as they discover what mysteries are still chained behind its walls.”
As always, players can simply log in to the base game, even if they don’t own Heart of Thorns, to “bank” the episode for the future, though you’ll need to own the expansion and be level 80 to actually play it. That goes for the current episode as well.
Don’t own the expansion? Maybe take advantage of this week’s sale; ANet’s marked the game down to 50% until February 8th. In the meantime, the trailer is below!

You make it sound like the other races are a bunch of bullies and that the humans have no choice but to do as the other races demand.
I’m pretty sure I did no such thing. And if I somehow did, it was definitely not my intent. How did you come to that conclusion?
~Sincerely, Scissors
(edited by Windu The Forbidden One.6045)
As norn don’t believe in the formal Hierarchy that humans have, it’s reasonable for norn to assume that if Queen Jenna can’t maintain her rule, then she doesn’t deserve to rule. The only outside race that may have a stake in this would be the charr. If they value the peace treaty, the might be compelled to step in.
While you have a point about the norn views, I think that’s only for a fair contest to her ability to rule. Otherwise, it would be fair to say that the norn deserved to lose to Jormag, or to be driven from their homes by the Molten Alliance. They clearly don’t agree.
If Caudecus was to take over through political means, they would likely feel it’s her fight alone. But he’s not planning to “play fair” and meet her on the grounds of who’s the best leader, he’s planning on attacking her. The norn have no problems with defending an ally that’s under attack.
Now, as to the other races? Well, don’t forget that the White Mantle (posing as bandits) have strong ties to both the Nightmare Court and the Inquest, and there’s clear signs that they support the Separatists as well. If the White Mantle rises to power, threats to the sylvari, asura, and charr all grow.
Oh, and Lion’s Arch would be in trouble as well. That city used to be part of Kryta, and I don’t think anyone assumes that Caudecus would allow it to remain separate and free from his control. The Lion Guard would have to pull back to defend the city, so there goes all the guards on the trade routes. I’m sure the Sons of Svanir would appreciate that.
In short, if Caudecus and the White Mantle following him win, all the major races are going to have a harder time of it.
Care to explain why the norn didn’t interfere in the Charr/Human war then?
Because maybe that is a totally different thing?
You are comparing an interspecies conflict that had been going on since before the Norn even met these species, between two races that that were not hostile to them, to one of their allies being illegally taken over by a faction that’s hostile to everyone?
Not to mention back then, Jormag wasn’t as much of a threat as he is now. Jormag absorbed the power of at least one other dragon, maybe even more. If jormag wipes out Hoelbrak it’s game over for them. And this time the orders are in no shape to help them out. They need assistance from the other races.
The Norn are not going to get this help if they act like Braham and say “lol just human crap”. By that logic, Jormag taking their land was “just a norn matter”.
~Sincerely, Scissors
(edited by Windu The Forbidden One.6045)
Braham is right about one thing though. Caudecus is none his concern. It’s entirely a human matter.
He’s an outspoken opponent of the charr-human truce. If he succeeds and rules Kryta, it will most likely lead to another Charr-Human conflict, or at the very least cease all cooperation between the two races. This would negatively affect all of Tyria, especially with Jormag en Primordus on our doorstep and the Pact mostly in ruins. We can’t afford to be divided.
And even IF Kryta being lead by an evil dictator would somehow miraculously not affect the rest of Tyria in any way, if Braham doesn’t care about other people’s problems, then why should we give a kitten about his?
So if one country is putting the wrong person in charge of their government, then the other countries have an obligation to prevent it?
1) I never said that. You said it’s entirely a human matter. I said that it’s not entirely a human matter. Meaning that Kryta being lead by an evil dictator will affect other nations. Especially since Caudecus opposes the Charr-Human piece treaty.
2) If Caudecus succeeds, then Kryta didn’t put the wrong person in charge. An insurgent staged a coup and illegally took the throne by force, big difference.
3) Like Ashen already said, it would not be inappropriate for allies to intervene when the legal goverment gets overthrown by the head of the White Mantle. An order that doesn’t exactly have the best reputation..
Simply put, Kryta being lead by Caudecus would have negative repercussions on Tyria, not just humanity. That makes it everyone’s business.
Thinking otherwise would be ludicrous. Imagine if the same thing was about to happen to one of the other races. Each race has a rival faction of the same race, for the humans it’s the White Mantle.
Imagine if the Sons of Svanir ruled the Norn and they all sided with Jormag?
Imagine if the Flame Legion ruled all the charr again and they decide end the peace treaty?
The list goes on.
Having one of the 5 major races being lead by their evil rival is bad for everyone, not just that race in particular, and that makes it everyone’s business.
Not just a <insert 1 race> matter.
