Rangers are transforming into avatars, and that requires explanation.
They learned a new trick while experimenting with magic, there’s your explanation :P
But in all seriousness, most of the abilitys classes use have no expanation. You start a character and only have very few skills at your command, then suddenly you learn all sorts of new spells as you train and gain more experience. It’s like that with specs too.
~Sincerely, Scissors
(edited by Windu The Forbidden One.6045)
It is not whether or not it is nature. Is is how are they physically performing an avatar skill. Something they up to this point have had no ability to perform.
You could ask the same thing about the other specs. Why can the necromancer suddenly turn into a reaper? Why can people suddenly become a revenant? Why can elementalists suddenly overload attunements?
I will tell you why: Progress. Things change, people learn new abilities and skills.
~Sincerely, Scissors
Warriors could summon Flesh Golem 253 years ago. It was called Dual Profession and supported by lore.
Indeed, classes can learn the abilities of other classes. That’s supported by the lore.
It’s just gone because of gameplay/technical reasons.

Not from space.
Space = nature.
Nature is not exclusive to Earth (or Tyria in this case). So what do we draw from this then?
The druid now has moon powers?
The closest is us summoning a spirit of the sun.
They have never gathered the forces to themselves, they have invoked forces. The implication is that we are becoming an avatar of a moon/druid spirit.
Such a bond requires more explanation. Avatar magic was not in the grasp of rangers before this spec, it was always with devout humans, and dervish/revenants.
There is no history here.
so its hard to believe nature magic, but you accept people who can control the elements, clone themselves, raise the dead, summon spirit weapons, summon flying bots? ok then.
No. Its hard to believe that rangers are now dervish/revenants and no one can explain why. I don’t question guardians summoning spirit weapons, but I would gawk if I saw a warrior summon a flesh golem.
Its hard to explain why they have the ability to gather a force that was never identified in the lore.
Dervish tap into the magic of the six gods. Revenants tap into the power of the mists.
Completely unrelated to Druids.
Druids/Rangers use nature magic. Space/Celestial = Nature.
Thus it is normal for them to use it.
Done. Bam. Explained.

I loved the way WoW handled inns and taverns. You are in the middle of nowhere, hours from the nearest city, you come across a cozy tavern with some nice music to rest and talk with other players. And because resting in an Inn actually gives an exp boost, lets you teleport and has a usefull merchant it’s actually useful to hang around there for a while.
Unfortunately since you can teleport everywhere instantly in gw2 that concept doesn’t really work. No real need to stay in an inn when you can instantly teleport to the big cities no matter where you are.
~Sincerely, Scissors
So what do we draw from this then?
The druid now has moon powers?
Yep. Druids in WoW do the same thing, it’s not unprecedented for a druid concept to use celestial powers.
Such a bond requires more explanation.
Not really, rangers can utilize the power of nature, and that includes space. Simple as that.
There is no history here.
There’s a first time for everything.

Sooooo, what I want to know….
Since rangers are getting what is essentially a ‘death shroud’ set up, AND have utility skill access….
Could necros finally get access to THEIR utilities when they toggle into their shrouds? Please?
It’s not really the same though as Druids don’t get a second health bar.

Meaning currently sylvari is the only race with the full personal story experience. Which is wrong.
No it is not. Sylvari are DRAGON MINIONS! Their race probably plays a pivotal in this story, the other races don’t. They SHOULD get some unique experiences and content that other races don’t get. It makes sense! And if you want to experience it too, then nothing is stopping you from rolling a Sylvari.
And you keep acting like other races will miss out on a huge chunk of story. While this whole voice thing is probably just some extra flavour and effects.
charr are going after a witch hunt
asura are the inventors that had a lot of problems with teleportation lines and such
norn are very primal in nature
humans worship godsand you’re saying that those races wouldn’t have different coping mechanisms with war? That they don’t deserve a unique storyline when it comes to fighting the dragon too?
They do have something different: antagonism, fear and probably a conflict towards the Sylvari race. If done right, Anet could turn that into a really interesting plot for non-sylvari. As already shown in the initial HoT teaser, some members of other races already turn against the Sylvari, which is exactly why the Pale Tree wanted to keep their origins a secret at all costs.

Who knows, maybe Jormag will do something similair.
Jormag influences your mind rather than the traditional corrupting you see with other dragons. However, he only does this with males. Women seem to be immune to this.
So whenever we get an expansion that focusses on Jormag, he might talk to male players only (except Sylvari of course). I only play female characters so I will miss out, but I still think it would be a cool addition.

this isn’t race specific story.
No, this is a race specific fraction of a story (and maybe not even that, it all depends on exactly what Mordremoth talks about). Which is a lot less story significant than 3 full blown chapters of personal story that are unique to each race, yet that’s not a problem for some reason.
This is “lose out if you’re specifically not a sylvari”.
Just like not being able to play the 3 personal story chapters unique to Sylvari is also ‘losing out’ if you don’t have a Sylvari character. Yet that’s perfectly fine?
Because no other races get anything special.
The other races get everything the expansion has to offer, except this tiny fraction, Mordremoths voice. Big deal. And we don’t even know if he will say anything significant, for all we know he just yells “I will destroy you all” and stuff like that during the boss battle.

not leveling a class that’s supposed to be for cosmetic purposes only.
And that’s where you’re wrong. Different races aren’t just for different looks, they are there for different experiences. Otherwise there wouldn’t be racial skills and race specific story. If you never play a norn, you will never get to play the personal story that comes with it either. Same goes for this.

that is really bad design.
No, it is not.
It’s the same as only the undead hearing the voice of the Lich in WoW.
Bad comparison. The Lich King, otherwise known as Arthas, was originally an english speaking human who eventually became a Lich. It makes sense he is still able to communicate in the common tongue.
I do NOT want to be forced to play a sylvari to hear this amazing actor’s work as mordremoth ! and NEITHER should anyone else !!!

This is good design, some variety for each race. And it makes sense lore wise, Sylvari are it’s minions, the other races aren’t. It should have some unique effect on them, and this is a great one. You are just saying it’s bad design because you probably don’t have a Sylvari character.
And besides, playing multiple races is fun. Creates more variety in your alt collection.
On a different note I’m extremely happy we finally have an Elder Dragon that TALKS! It always bothered me that Zhaitan never talked, he was clearly intelligent so he should have been able to.

Please A-net, fill just one 20 slot bag with containers that have full stacks then salvage them all and come tell us the players what you think of doing that is like.
Simply use a macro to spam clicks .
…. :/
Not much of a risk if you do it right.
The official rule is 1 key for 1 action.
Configure your scroll wheel to right and left click (luckily the R.A.T. comes with 2 scroll wheels). That way, 1 scroll tick = 1 click.
And because you actually have to perform this action yourself (unlike autoclickers) it’s not exploitable afaik. I can’t for example open a 1000 bags and still fight a horde of mobs at the same time.

That has been known for a while now.

Much better than Forge imo.
Forge just did not sound right, ‘forgeR’ maybe, but not Forge.
It’s like calling the engineer spec ‘Stove’.That’s exactly what I thought. Forge as an English word sounds very ‘off’ for a profession’s name, it would be ’ a Forge’ or ‘Forger’. I’m not going crazy for grammar, just as a native speaker it sounds very strange to me.
Threadly reminder that a FORGER is someone who falsifies documents and paperwork and not someone who uses a forge.
And a Forge is a furnace. So neither of those names is really fitting for a profession.
And a tempest is a storm, yet it exists. And is one of the better profession names as well.
In your opinion maybe. Not in mine.

yes , i think the phrase ‘’ Can we all take a moment for ….. ’’ is more or equally overused

Same goes for the word ‘entitled’. Some people should really look up what that word actually means. I /facepalm as soon as that word gets tossed around. For some people it seems to be the default reaction to any form of criticism, wether it’s viable or not.

Please note: Our studio — and that means our entire development team — is located in the United States, in the Pacific Time Zone. We work very hard to synchronize as many things as possible, but beta weekend events are best organized around the times that our development team will be able to devote as many hours as possible to testing, in-game observations, forum tracking, feedback reviews, and even possible on-the-fly changes. (The latter is not likely, but it has been known to happen.)
In no way do we want anyone to feel distanced by the hours chosen, and we do apologize if the hours are somewhat inconvenient for someone (although with a test that runs for a couple of days, surely not all hours will prove to be inaccessible ). For practical purposes, the hours selected are the best possible for the team developing this game for you, and we ask for your understanding of that fact.
This is not a preview, early start, or sneak peek. It’s a test. <— said in my Admiral Akbar voice, and if you get the reference, kudos to you!

As a non-casual player I was always told that i should find another game, because this game is casual! And guess what, i’ve been with ArenaNet for over 10 years now, yes i’m a GW1 beta player, and it’s kind of disrespectful when a casual GW2 player that never touched GW1 is telling you to move on to another MMO is kind of sad!
BUT HAH! There you go, I really believe RAIDING will be hard, and i truly hope there will be high chance that you fail if you are not coordinated a lot! I did miss hard challenging content, because only two things that i was enjoying in my playtime was Fractal50 & GvG 15v15, every thing else is casual, even TT.
Thx anet for listening to our desire for something more advanced! <3
I really doubt it will be that hard.

@Crossaber Incorrect Backpieces are Accessories not Armor, nice try though.
Nope, if you die enough times you see that both your armor and back item gets damaged/broken. Yet accessoires always stay intact. So they are not Accessoires, and they are definitely not weapons either. So it’s armor. Heck they are even sold by Guild Armorers.
Besides why would you think weaponsmith can craft a back item? Do your homework next time.
