Keep in mind that like other races, Asura can still fall in love even if they aren’t even attracted to the person; this is a mystery of love. We are sometimes forced to love someone even if we don’t really “want” to, by our feelings.

This is evidenced in the Dynamics personal story. Where Doxa has a romantic relationship with Kazz. Even though Kazz isn’t too bright.

It would be really stupid if in 2 years, new players can still defeat Zhaitan. But not Mordremoth and [insert elder dragon here] because they have been defeated already.

Greatsword Stance?

in Human

Posted by: Windu The Forbidden One.6045

Windu The Forbidden One.6045

Oh, I may have understood the term “greatsword” wrong :P.

I assumed greatswords to be massive, and like twice as heavy as a longsword. Because of that assumption, I also assumed greatswords were absolutely useless in most situations, and reall clunky to use :P.

But I guess ‘greatsword’ is just another word, and has the same meaning as longsword. I still think most ‘greatswords’ in gw2 are kind of oversized, though. I feel silly for not realizing it’s the same thing xD.

There’s nothing wrong with Nebenhut, I actually used that exact site before, and tried it out, but I prefer other guard positions :P.

AFAIK “Greatsword” is a made-up word, or at least a word that did not exist before modern times. The correct (historical) term for a sword you need 2 hands to wield is Longsword.

D&D is a major offender in this case because it refers to 1-handed swords as longswords, and probably one of the main reasons people get medieval weapon technology terms mixed up.

Yup, I actually just realised greatsword pretty much IS a longsword. I assumed greatswords were these oversized anf weighted swords that gav you spear-like range… Which would be impractical. The way games portray “greatswords” also makes them look massively oversized.

Greatswords are NOT made up and are most definitely not a long sword…

Take a look at these:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/b/bb/Darksteel_Greatsword.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/e/e0/Aureate_Highlander_Sword.jpg

Both are quite practical and realistic compared to real life swords that were used. Maybe just a bit too large, but nothing more. The 2nd one’s handle is pretty long, but not ridiclious.

Greatswords ARE a thing. A longsword is 1handed.

“A longsword (also spelled long sword, long-sword) is a type of European sword characterized as having a cruciform hilt with a grip for two-handed use and a straight double-edged blade of around 90 to 110 cm (35 to 43 in).”

Some more examples of real life greatswords/longswords.
Claymore
The average claymore ran about 140 cm (55 in) in overall length, with a 33 cm (13 in) grip, 107 cm (42 in) blade, and a weight of approximately 5.5 lb (2.5 kg).

Zweihander
Due to their size and weight — typically at least 1.4 m (4 ft 71?8 in) long and with a weight of over 2 kg — Zweihänders require two hands; as such they require at least 25 cm (9.84 in) for the grip.

Will guild limit ever be raised above five?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Windu The Forbidden One.6045

Windu The Forbidden One.6045

The ability to join multiple guilds on this game is ridiculous. Very simply, it discourages guild loyalty and defeats the entire purpose of joining a guild in the first place.

Guilds are supposed to be a dedicated, close knit group of people. An ideal scenario would be a flourishing, active community in-game AND outside of the game, supported by communication programs such as IRC/forums/voice. The system now? Guilds having half the people not representing. Highly inactive/non-existent offsite interaction. Guilds are typically a hi-bye affair in the game.

People who say “I represent this guild today for WvW, then that guild tomorrow for PvE” – this isn’t how guilds are supposed to work. Guilds are groups where people do different things together – not a “I come as I like” place. People who represent different guilds on different days as and when they like are akin to clan-hoppers.

But obviously, this isn’t just the fault of guild hoppers alone. The guild system design in this game is absolutely horrible – they want people to know as many different groups of people as possible, but they do not allow players to participate in the chat of guilds they are not representing. This, to me is the biggest problem about the guild system, because it renders useless the participation of a player, simply because he/she does not know what is happening in other guilds.

Basically – you don’t have to represent different guilds when you’re doing different activities. So what if one guild is better than another at PvE? Does it really matter to “roll with the best”? Does it really matter if you spent 15-30 more minutes doing a dungeon with another guild which is better at its community aspect/ WvW?

In my opinion anyway.

Also when it comes to sylvari armor, it shouldn’t be too hard for a sylvari blacksmith to make adjustments to their armor. After all, members of every race can wear Twilight Arbor armor as well.

There’s a difference between armor that’s made like that you can get in Twilight Arbor, and armor that is grown by your character out of their body. The TA armor is what’s made, and if you look at it on any race other than a Sylvari, TA armor looks no different than any other armor. Cultural armor is grown, and when you pay the price to “buy” the piece of cultural armor, you’re merely paying how to “learn” to grow said piece of armor.

As interesting as it would be to the Inquest to see a charr growing plants out of their flesh, it’s unlikely to ever happen because it’s illogical, pure and simple.

That why I said blacksmiths can easily change to armor in such a way everyone can wear it. Or use their materials to create armor that looks just like silvary cultural armor. Just like Twilight Arbor armor. It’s not rocket science you know.

No on integration, I like having a set of armor for each race to be proud of, it gives a real sense of culture to each races and adds depth to the game. Moreover, it does make sense for there to be char Seraph, does it? So why would they be granted Seraph armor? Cultural armor is like the armor of each nations army, and that is not something they give freely to their own people, not to mention other races. So to change that would break immersion. Leave it as it is.

My human toons are not members of the Seraph either, yet they can still wear Seraph armor. That also doesn’t makes sense.

Story and gameplay segration my friend.

No on integration, I like having a set of armor for each race to be proud of, it gives a real sense of culture to each races and adds depth to the game.

At last, someone with a good and valid reason against having cultural armor being available for every race.

I still want cultural armor to be available for each race, but at least that’s a good reason not to have it. Unlike those lore reasons.

The issue was it was an “improved” (subjective) version of Human T3, for cheaper & usable to all.

Exactly. I wouldn’t mind having cultural armor available to each and every race. After all it’s CULTURAL armor, and NOT RACIAL armor.

(No one has 15 characters, 3 of each race of each weight).

orly? I have 17 characters.

Lol yes. You´re really trying to tell me that an Asuran Ele can be part of a Blood Legion Warband CULTURE?

Seriously? There are reasons why those are called Cultural, because it does mean that it is separated to the cultures available in each race. And if you check for the names, they give pretty much of a cultural name for each of those groups.

Councillor Flax head of the Asura goverment and Captain Shud (asura) member of the captains council wear human cultural armor. Your argument is invalid.

There’s also a human mother in Gandarren Fields who raises a Norn, Asura and Charr kid. They are from another race, yet are raised in human culture. Why should they be denied to wear human cultural gear?

Non
Playable
Character
.

You cannot take the actions applied to NPCs and apply them to players. Most of the armor has cultural distinctions, but some of them DO have racial distinctions. Sylvari for example. They arent wearing anything. ALL Sylvari cultural armor is the literal extension of the Sylvari’s body. They grow the armor. None of the other 4 races can “grow” their armor on their bodies. A sylvari walking around in cultural armor is quite literally walking around naked. Sure it’s not like you see nipples and crotches, but what they “wear” is a physical part of their body.

So people can use lore reasons against cultural armor being available to everyone, but I can’t use lore reasons to support this?

My argument stands.
Also when it comes to sylvari armor, it shouldn’t be too hard for a sylvari blacksmith to make adjustments to their armor. After all, members of every race can wear Twilight Arbor armor as well.

As long as people keep being against this because of lore reasons, I can.
npc’s wearing cultural gear of other races and npc’s being raised by another culture shows that cultural gear being available to more than one race is lore friendly.

cultural armour, should stay cultural…or it will no longer matter ‘where’ that armour came from or that it’s “cultural”.

And no matter who wears it, it will always stay cultural.
Because it’s cultural, not racial.

I think the “cultural” part is that it represents a specific culture, not that it should be usable by those only. You can look at, for example, Norn Stag armor and see that is represents a Norn’s culture.

Why would the Norn insist “We will only make this to fit Norn” when the armorsmiths would become rich by diversifying their potential customers just by offering to fit to other races too.

Not to mention that several dungeon armors are also made according to a specific culture:
Caudacus Manor and Orrian armors belong to the human culture.
Crucible of Eternity armor belongs to the Asura culture.
The list goes on

Yet anyone can wear them.

Not as a free-for-all, mind you. There should be some fairly rigorous grinding for some form of reputation points in order to make that stuff available. That way when you see a Human or Sylvari in Asuran gear it’s like ‘kitten , that guy is hardcore.’

As long as it doesn’t involve crafting or the mystic forge..

Races haven’t to be perfectly equals lore-sided.

The key part being “don’t have to be”.
If we can have gigantic hairy bullcat beasts like the Charr. We can have a small cute gremlin race as well. And unlike the Charr, the Asura actually need this technological superiority. They don’t have anything else. The Charr were already strong before they entered the industrial age. The reason humans are so underpowered is because they controlled most of Tyria in gw1, and Anet needed to make room for the other races so they basically nerfed the entire human race.

Also when it comes to technology, the charr are one big plothole imo.
It makes no sense they would advance from tribals to a civilization this advanced without any of the other races advancing one bit.

I was born in 1988.
When that happened I had missed both world wars, and the majority of the cold war. That is very unfair, I should be compensated?

That’s why you have guesting. The reason you can’t just casually switch between servers is because of WvW. Don’t make this system seem worse than it actually is.
