Okay so, how many tournaments have you won? How many qualifying points do you have? What team do you play for? Can I see some footage of your incredible skills?
I’ll answer for you : 1, 0 , none, no.
You don’t know anything about this game, go get good and well known then MAYBE you can argue about how “time spent = better gear” is such a good pvp design
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Abyss is the most black looking, followed by Black. Midnight Ice/Fire have a little bit of blue/red in them.
Yawn, I love you.
Hello! First and foremost, I don’t play a Warrior, but am quite experienced with running dungeons. I don’t know what is giving you trouble in detail, so I’ll keep this really general.
I know this is not the answer you wanted, but player behaviour greatly outweights stats when it comes to doing well in dungeons. Things like knowing enemy patterns, dodging the right attacks and making good use of your skills is paramount to success.
That being said, your build seems nice and you should do just fine in story modes as long as your gear is decent ( blues or greens of around your level ) but is, indeed, as glass cannon as you can get. So you might wanna change to toughness/vitality gear/traits to have more breathing room, as long as you keep in mind that the difference won’t be huge and you will still have to dodge out of bad things and stay on your toes against bosses.
P.s. please don’t use guildhead as the values on those skills are out of whack. I can’t see, for example, how much does endure pain last, or how much toughness does banner of defense give. Also consider using Battle Standard to insta-ress party members as that ability is quite handy
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
I miss my clocktower
Not really impressive but still a great job and a nice coordinated group
Always appreciate footage of good groups stomping bigger zergs
I’ll never understand why people want others to be FORCED to join a guild or else they say “guilds are pointless”. You can do almost everything solo and you don’t NEED a guild, but why on earth does this fact devalue guilds? Guilds are a collective of like-minded people who have a good time with each other and like to work together. You might argue that there’s no content made for guilds that like challenge and nothing in particular for a guild to achieve, which is partially true, but if your guildies leave just because “there’s no need for a guild” then you are better off without them.
P.s. just read what moraine posted and electing his post to an example. Sir, if you only group with people if you are forced to, then my guess is that you are not a very social player, making MMOs not a good choice for you. Developers shouldn’t shove grouping down people’s throat.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
2, definitely. Props for the Skritt quote, but would you please explain me why they say that? Never understood that.
Guys don’t bother with Nayru, for some reason he always posts like that. He belittles someone/something, quickly dismissing him/it as wrong, then adds nothing constructive or meaningfull. Kinda an obvious troll.
Back on topic (kinda):
I wouldn’t suggest you to pick a class based on their strenght, as they can and will change with every balance patch. GW2 also has 3 really different environment : WvW, structured PvP and PvE. So unless you state what part of the game may interest you more, I’m not going into more detail (don’t have much time, sorry about that). For now, -IMO- :
Structured PvP:
1. Mesmers
2. Guardians
3. Necromancers/Elementalists
4. Thieves/Warriors
5. Rangers/Engineers
PvE (dungeons):
1. Warriors
2. Guardians
3. Elementalists/Thieves/Rangers
4. Engineers/Necromancers
5. Mesmers
WvW:
1. Mesmers (portal, nuff said)
2. Warrior/Guardians
3. Thieves
4. Everyone else.
Feel free to ask me about playstyles anytime
P.s. I only play Guardian, Necro and Engi so my take on playstyles of other classes is based on observations and people I talk to.

Blacktide. Ahahah no seriously, Desolation! Desolation folks are pretty fun to fight against
I can’t really know what you’d like, I’d say do as Garambola suggested.
By The Way It Would Be Helpful If You Stopped Typing Like This, As It Makes Reading A Pain For Many Of Us. It Is Also The Signature Of Another Forum-goer And He Would Be Very Upset If You Stole It From Him.
Just confirming what you said in your last post, Gunstar. You can’t salvage nor sell any item bought with Karma. Soulbound items can be salvaged.
The “advantage” ( which is basically skipping content/game-time ) doesn’t impact anyone’s gaming in any meaningful way, so am I fine with it. Good luck fighting with a class you have never played before =)
And what is wrong with me having additional inventory space, or faster access to exotics, or a pretty skin? That’s not P2W in any way, shape or form. I shelled out some cash, supported the game you and I both play and got something nice in return. Devs win because they get money, you win because you get not to pay a sub and still fully experience an AAA MMO and I win because my money actually bought me something useful.
P.s. You can quite easily get exotics without paying a gold through dungeons or karma and it doesn’t even take that long.
To me it means nothing but to say its not (converting gems to gold) an advantage is shortsightedness and uninformed. Take 2 competitive players in a race to be first max crafter, lvl80 etc the person with more disposable income that can invest in the gem exchange will win everytime that is a fact and in lay terms shows it is to some extent p2w.
Getting something or somewhere faster is not pay2win by any means, unless getting said progression done takes forever and/or is fundamental to playing the game. The meaning of words change over time, but this is not the case, unless you can reference some official source and not you basically repeating your (warped, wrong) definition of it. Competitive players don’t race to achieve the most meaningless things faster, they are in SPvP, in WvW and speed-clearing dungeons, and nothing you buy in the cash shop, not even gold, gives you a significant advantage in any of these areas.
Let’s take an FPS with a co-op mode like say, Borderlands 2. Now Gearbox decides to sell a code which gets you to the last boss and to max level with good gear in the blink of an eye. By definition, Borderlands 2 has now become P2W. I don’t think I need to explain further why this is idiocy.
And what is wrong with me having additional inventory space, or faster access to exotics, or a pretty skin? That’s not P2W in any way, shape or form. I shelled out some cash, supported the game you and I both play and got something nice in return. P.s. You can quite easily get exotics without paying a gold through dungeons or karma and it doesn’t even take that long.
P.p.s. Pay2Win is, by definition, an advantage in stats and nothing else. “Saving” time through it it’s not P2W unless that time is absurdly long ( it’s not ).

Mad king dungeon it was REAL dungeon
Joke’s on you, Mad king dungeon was so easy I duoed it with a lv 40 friend the first time we got in. Nothing in the Lost Shores or Halloween events was challenging beside the Clock Tower. The game should have more PERMANENT challenges, but festive content should be easy to access for everyone. Not that I like it, but I’m mature enough to understand why.
The rest of your post can basically be summed up to " ermagerd you not showering me in exotics worth playing suxx eventz " and posts like yours should not be allowed on the forum because they are nothing but rants.
I’m now proceding to ignore users who make such hate-filled, non-constructive posts because too much is too much.
The whine in this one is strong, lol.
Granted, the OP has some points ( RNG endless tonics and rng chests are unfair and shouldn’t be in the game ), but the amount of exageration and hyperboles is through the roof.
As people pointed out, without shelling out any gold or money you already walk out with in-game weapon skins ( very easy to obtain or to buy from the TP for 15s each ), 2 minis, and a possible final reward yet to be announced. Heck, if you don’t have the money for the endless tonics (which is around 2g for each one, not too much considering they are ENDLESS) you can even sell the leftover glue/wad stack and get 2.5g
Now if you wanted a costume, some weapon skins or the non-rng minis they are reasonably priced at the gem store and you can’t blame them for having cash shop only fluff items as you don’t pay 15 bucks a month do you?
Way too focus only on the negative side, lol.
The prices for costumes,
Just dropping by to congratulate the Xaoc mesmer on VS borderlands that didn’t attack me when he found me at around 20% HP and instead waited for me to finish off the mobs. That was a nice duel
Yup. Won’t happen, unfortunately.
The activities can be joined from the NPCs with two crossed flags above them in LA, near the mystic forge. Their description is in the stickied threads in this sub-forum.
Happy Wintersday!
The event consists of :
^^^^^ NO DUNGEONS UP HERE ^^^^^
So we have 80% of the event pretty much soloable and just a single dungeon ( altough it’s the only way to get the mini pets ) which is easy and if not soloable, almost. I don’t see the reasoning behind your complaint, especially in an MMO.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
The game is pretty fun, but also has a number of serious issues such as poor voice acting/storytelling, many missing features ( PvP observer, ranked matchs, forgotten WvW to name some), a considerable amount of bugs and a tendency to introduce bugged content.
The game shines in other aspects, so I tended to ignore those downsides… untill the recent shift in direction, with the addition of more and more grind and many deluding patches. Now I’m not that willing of thinking positively.
cool story
LOL = MOBA
WOW = MMORPG
SC2 = MMORTS
PS2 = MMOFPScapiche?
Power creep? he doesnt explain anything than the obvious, he dont do a good job at it, he sounds like a console gamer. We arent playing The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy. You cannot compare two different types of gameplay and game mechanics, is delusional.
That video is terrible in all aspects, period.
Sorry, what? So just because the genres are different you can’t make any comparisons in relation to a phenomen that is non-genre based? Power creep may not be present in Tetris, but it’s common in many different online videogames that are regurarly updated, such as WoW or LoL.
Also “ermagerd, console gamers r sooooo dumbz lol”.
There is nothing wrong with vertical progression, i played a lot of games with vertical progression in the past, but the problem is when you add vertical progression in a game that was advertised without it (or is better to say, without a mandatory gear grind).
If someone tell you that a new drink is the thing you will love if you hate coke, and then the new drink taste EXACLTY like a coke, someone will surely love it, but the original buyers the ones that thrust on the advertise, have all the rights to be concerned.
While this is true and I cant dissagee with your point, not a single person has complained about lvling from 1-80? Why not? no one brought this up in beta and its exactly what vertical progression is, if you wanted to complain then was the time to do it.
No, leveling up is not the vertical progression we are talking about. It ends. Gear treadmills don’t, once you reach max stats they simply add higher ones. It doesn’t take much, while the almighty progression requires you to spend 20hours for a +1 on your HP pool. It’s also a diverse experience ( you can do open-world PVE, story mode dungeons,WvW, even craft ) and doesn’t require you to farm or repeat any content.
really? what a god kitten awful examples, he compares LoL to WoW
Really? What god kitten awful arguments you got down there. Not only the video explains what power creep is and why it’s bad, but it also does a pretty good job at it. So what, it compares LoL and WoW? They’re both videogames you know, altough completely different ones.
You see, the problem with vertical progression is that it doesn’t exist. You aren’t really progressing in anything at all : your characters stats increase, but the same happens to your foes. Back to square one. Vertical progression is there because MMO companies need to retain their players subscriptions by making them busy and creating the illusion of content, but GW2 has no sub fees so they really don’t need to have us playing every single day.
Now I just had a brilliant idea for the December patch, hear me out!
Let’s make it so that AC tokens can buy you an ascended set after 50 runs, and you need the ascended set to run CM. With CM’s tokens you buy Ascended 2.0 (better stats yay!) items and after 50 runs you are ready for TA! Then you’ll do SE and so on
Now that is A LOT of new content and awesome fun, right guys?
How I wish they decided to implement this kind of system during beta/launch. I could’ve avoided suggesting the game to friends, asked for a refund and everyone would’ve been happier.

Attended / No Loot / No Mail
I’ll be honest tough. I did not DC due to server issues, I just wasn’t having fun and logged off almost at the end of the event. So I don’t think I deserve the loot, everything fine here.
I play a support/heals mesmer. I’ve always veered towards tanking or heals. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, there are two types of mmo’ers.
The selfish, rock star dps, who demands the spotlight, and the tanks/heals who really keep the ship afloat. If dps is the lead guitar, then tanks are the drummers, who set the pace, and heals are the bass, who hold down the line and keep it going.
Point being that I highly suspect that all the Traherne haters are rock star dps types, and they so hate sharing the spotlight. They so hate that anyone but them could save the world, and that in fact it takes actual cooperation and unity in order to dominate.
Eat rocks dps, cry me a river. Be ressing you soon.
That is so full of prejudices and stereotypes its’s disgusting.
I’m all for it…only if Tomes’ first skills shouts stop being played each time I use them! " Receive this light receive this light receive this light" or even worse * pops quickness * “This is this is this is this my wrath!”
So you actually lowered its HP in this patch? That’s great news! Why wasn’t the change listed in the patch notes? Everyone loves detailed patch notes ( despite maybe the guy/gal who has to write them? )! I still don’t like how the cannon mechanic plays out ( boring to stay put ) but it’s definitely a huge step in the right direction! Or am I misunderstanding and is the HP unchanged from the last time I fought the boss ( around 1 month ago )? Because last time it wasn’t close to 2 tries at all, more like 20.
@ omgwtflolbll
I agree with you, but then we start talking about min/maxing and classes ( Hammer Guardian and Warrior make for huge amounts of protection/might i.e. ) being required for a team composition. Should we really balance explorable dungeons around the performance of min/maxers? I don’t think so.
I take it as Wethospu is trying to defend possibly the worst GW2 boss fight ever? If you want arguments as to why it’s a really boring and tedious fight? Here they are
1) HUGE HP Pool. It ruins even beautiful fights, let alone this crappy one.
2) For 3 players (the majority of a party), the fight is nothing but press 1 every 15 seconds. For 10 minutes. Exciting, eh? *
3) The difficulty is overtuned without what you call afk-shooting. Having challenging content is fine, having a dungeon path that throws at you a very hard boss amidst quite easy fights is not.
4) The waypoint is way too far for no apparent reason other than to slow you down. The HP pool doesn’t regenerate even if you completely wipe so it’s not like it makes the fight harder, it just makes every death prolong much more the boring fight.
You could argue that the people shooting the cannons should jump on the platforms, throw in pot shots and then back off but thruth nobody will ever do it beside really coordinated/good guild runs. Try to coordinate the cannons with an average PUG if they have to fight and risk dying inbetween every volley.*
Now, were you asking me questions on how to make this boring mess more interesting or at least less frustrating?
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
So they made the boring & tedious boss even more boring & tedious than before? Great job.
No you can say what you want, but the fact that the venom got fixed and this skill didn’t means that the way it works is intended.
You can still dodge Binding’s Blade first cast, the one with obvious animation and low projectile speed, and completely nullify the skill. The same couldn’t be said about the venom, you couldn’t dodge it at all. So you are comparing apples and oranges.
As a relatively PvP-focused guy and a great fan of E-Sports in general, I think that the absurd amount of RNG (many traits, the whole Engineer, sigils and runes…) in the game is unhealthy for its competitive scene and possible tournaments/streams viewers. I very much agree with everything you said here, OP, especially since I play Hammer Guardian and that trait is as frustrating as important for my build. That being said, many concerns were voiced in the past, especially in beta, but the devs said the RNG is going to stay because players will find interesting ways to adapt/react to it.
Yeah, like there’s a whole lot of adaptation and counterplay you can do around wanting a specific thing to happen ( say getting Wall of Reflection/smoke on Engi ) and getting something completely different ( Mesmer’s wall ). Or that my team can react to a lucky 3 second quickness proc when you don’t even know that it can happen until it does…. but I digress.
Yep, 30 people doing that would be troublesome, but suggesting that a server is able to field 30+ players all with multiple accounts, multiple PCs or an high-end one ( can you run the application twice on the same PC?) and able to get into the map at the same time is quite redicolous. That being said, there’s nothing to be done about the issue apart from ending free transfers, but even then people in top tiers generally face the same servers for a long time.
You mean alt accounts right? Because you can’t have characters in different servers within the same account. Anyways, it’s probably a queue glitch as it seems unlikely that there’s a big enough group of people capable of making such an impact.
He said he had 10 agony resistance…
The PvP splint heavy set is obtaiend through a “critical success” you may get when crafting the PvP reinforced scale set, whose recipe is 5 arcane powders, 1 arcane orb, 1 dolyak token and the item token. While crafting it today it took at best 3 tries per piece to get the desiderated “critical success”, so I assumed the % was relatively high. Unfortunately tough, after 13 tries, I still hadn’t gotten the splint gloves ( gotten reinforced scale ones instead ) so I figured I would ask around for clarification before wasting any more glory. Has anyone of you gotten those gloves? Was it a streak of bad luck, or is the recipe bugged?
As Anchorwind said. If our base HP was to be increased we would have to suffer different nerfs to a lot of our skills to still be balanced. Just Virtue of Resolve alone brings our base hp to 12k in a really short fight to a lot more during long fights.
P.s. stop thinking that caster = ranged squishy and “big guy with the sword” = melee tanky. It doesn’t work like that in GW2.
2- Unfair sPvP, dead tPvP and useless Heart of the Mists:
sPvP: It is unskilled and boring. If you know how to play, you will be a hunter, if you don’t, you will be a prey, simple as that.
Sorry, what? First you say it’s “unskilled” ( I take it as a “not based on skill” ), then you say that those who know how to play ( skilled players ) win over those who don’t (unskilled), which is exactly the definition of skill-based pvp.
I like doing things at my pace ( that is, kinda slow ), talking to NPCs, searching around for secret areas, JPs, minidungeons. I don’t mind grouping up with people and are generally very talkative, but when the players are “anti-slow” like someone up there said, I’d rather play alone. It also doesn’t help that people in my server ( Seafarer’s Rest ) seemingly hate to chit chat with each other.
From a designer perspective, what does the existance of Magic Find gear add to the game and does it offset its downsides? What is the reasoning behind it working in dungeons?
Also, could you please answer everything Ascended-related in detail, pretty please?
So I participate in every single event and they give zero or close to zero rewards, I log off due to this unbearable event and it’s actually the only one who drops redicolous rewards?
you can dodge when you are knocked down/immobilized? Oh sorry, you meant that I have to dodge the AoE immobilizations, then the AoE knockdowns and then the AoE poisons, all the while being funneled into a bridge? Just how many dodges do you think I have?
Lag, culling, huge AoE spam in closed spaces + immobilization + multiple knockdowns, servers wiped at every inch. Yes, let’s pretend it’s a good event just because you are getting a laught out of it with your guildmates.
Glad we (FSP) are getting destroyed this week.
As soon as you rise up through the tiers you come across those that sacrifice skill and fun for the sake of winning – more commonly known as zerging.
Unsure how anyone can find running in packs of 50+ chasing soloers/small groups 3/4 across the zones.. Maybe they are that bad it makes them feel good?Anyway hopefully this will see the end of our nightcappers on FSP and allow us to drop the tiers again for some REAL pvp.
I’m glad too! If you think that zerging is what makes a server win, or that massive zerging alone is a viable tactic, well, that speaks for itself. I don’t want to sound too harsh but I’m not gonna accept your insinuations.
If 6 level 80 full exo can’t handle 8 young karkas and 2 drakes, they’re just bad.
The vet and champion big karkas are hard, it’s just impossible for me to solo them. I love this, finally an area where you have to play with other people if you want to take down the big foes.
My my my, first thank you for calling me bad. I’m a full exotic GS Guardian with Knight’s gear and Soldier’s Runes and I can handle, at best, 3-4 Karkas in a very tough (melee) fight. I guess I could push myself to the limit and reach 5-6 if I decided to use wall of reflection + good kiting, but in the end that utility has quite the cooldown and killing simple mobs shouldn’t be such a chore if they don’t drop anything interesting.
Ironically, I soloed a veteran with relative ease without setting up specific utilities/weapons.
Just giving feedback for Arenanet, I don’t mind challenging PvE zones but if their rewards are not worth the challenges 95% of the playerbase will simply avoid the zone.
Because not everyone who plays PvP completely disregards any other content. Very sorry that you do, but you’ll have to live with that announcement for a few days.
It doesn’t reset but your team can choose the difficulty level at the start of the dungeon from the ones available (from 1 to highest level achieved between party members)
Just 4 manned Colossus → Dredges → Swamp with my friends, was a blast.
Why not? I really like them and they’ve been in the former dungeons too. Things like CoE lasers, CoF magma stones, TA bees, etc. They are not “jumping puzzles” per se, but require similar skill. It’s not like the ones in FotM are particularly hard ( seen only 3 fractals so far ) .
