I don’t know where to start, so we’ll go from the beginning.

I feel like you could be doing a lot better if you weren’t using two melee weapons that have no synergy with each other (like mace/gs does). Have you considered swapping out the axes for a longbow? That way you can stay adaptable in a fight, I think you’ll have a lot more success that way.

What’s this mentality that anyone in the top 100 is an exploiter? I duck into top 100 whenever I queue for a long time on NA prime (and drop again at Oceanic prime because it’s ded) so I can’t see how hard it would be to stick there. Jealousy? Looking through top 25 now I see an awful lot of names that I’ve played with and against that I respect.

And yeah rewards would be nice, except for the fact that I’d probably miss out on them :<

Make it so you can’t pull any single guard the lord has. Also make it so that the lord revives any fallen guards when he is out of combat or the enemy is stealthed.

But yeah, definitely make it so that if you pull one guard they all pull. The guards are quite strong and it’s hard to beat them down but if you just take an extra 30 seconds killing them slowly then the lord is cake.

It’s not RNG with HGH and sigil of battle, those are 100% confirmed. 20-25 stacks is easy to maintain in combat and out of combat you can be running around with ~10 ready to fight. What you sacrifice instead is vigour (it’s hard to make the build work without elixir cooldowns and cleansing formula), weapon sigils and runes.

Why not just try it all? It’s easy to change builds in spvp

Several power rangers have been scouted floating around NA recently (most notably Steamhawke and our friend Eura here) and having played a bit of it myself (spirits are for chumps) I can say for sure it’s vastly underrated. Basically a superior version of old warrior.

You’ll just be about then suddenly bamn, swoop>stun>maul and you’re nearly dead. Still not fantastically strong and could do with subtle buffs, but writing off a power ranger is silly. I’d say they’re at least competitive with thieves and they can give a far, far stronger aid in a teamfight than a thief.

Yeah I even play engi and I can see them becoming extremely strong post dec 10th patch (Namely your standard bomb/nade build) after warriors and necros (the main counters) are chopped down a little. The nerfs – speedy kits and incendiary being moved – don’t even effect it that much, just kill build diversity.

I wouldn’t call engis “no skill” though. You try kit dancing properly and landing all your nades m8

I play engineer probably 95% of the time but I always change builds every 30-40 games. If you play too much of one build you start to slip into “routine”, and that loses you fights because you’re not actually thinking about what you’re doing.
I have a certain build that I’m pretty sure is “the best” that I keep coming back to, tweaking, etc, but it’s always good to switch it up a little.

I’ve tried it myself, but even refreshing all elixirs when off cd, I can keep up a maximum of 11 stacks of might at time.

Here is the issue, you’re doing something very wrong here. It’s easy to stay at around 20-25 stacks during extended fights at which point you’re doing massive physical and condi damage. It’s essentially a burst build that can last a bit longer.

It just has to be the first one that hits. Go play a thief and see how venoms operate, it’s only if you make contact with an enemy that a venom is used.

Stay away from the idea of ‘new effects to watch out for from traits’ and instead use traits to just put more focus on existing effects/skills/exc.
This game is clusterkittened with things to look out for already, improve gameplay by cutting back, not supporting this trash.

I too would love to cut down on the passive traits, but incendiary powder is already ingrained into the balance of engis – it’s practically required – and this is the most active you can make a passive, needing to monitor when it’s up and actively hit someone with it.

Skip to about halfway through if you don’t want to read my rambling on. It’s in bold, you can’t miss it.

We all know these traits are incredibly strong because of the massive damage they can pile on top of regular attacks on a consistent basis. I’d say condition damage engis are valid at all because of Incendiary Powder (And that’s after a good 4 months of playing one) and anet are right to nerf it because it’s very very strong. However, they’re going at it entirely the wrong way, especially in regards to reducing build diversity. Here’s a quote from Oeggs on the matter:

Quite literally the only thing that this change does is limit the viability of fringe builds that might have had a shot in the meta but nobody plays them. It doesn’t do anything to limit the most powerful build (and in my opinion overpowered build) that engis have in their kitten nal, the bomb/nade build. Simply put it pigeon holes us into going bomb/nade if we wish to do condi damage because the trait spread is unaffected by the change to incendiary.

Exactly right. The bomb/nade/x build I run doesn’t even change one iota, I even already use an adept trait (shrapnel) instead of a master. Here are two example builds I run which get killed by incindiary being moved: HGH Burn spammer – simply can’t take all the required traits with incindiary in masters, need to switch to a kit based build at which point you may as well just go bomb/nade/x – and HGH Rifle/Tool kit (I like hgh okay) – simply doesn’t output enough condi damage to warrant might stacking over straight DD runes and cooldown trait is required too. Those are just two examples, I’m sure people have formulated several other of these “fringe” builds that require icenciary as an adept in some way or another. This is why I believe you should not move incendiary but instead find another way to nerf it.

Now on to my suggestion: Change how Dhuumfire, Incendiary, and probably Sun Spirit operate to be like a venom that recharges every 12 seconds.

Here’s the reasoning: one of the reasons why these traits are so strong is that they can come on literally ANY attack. It’s 100% on crit, and even with very very low crit chance you’re going to hit some kind of crit within 5 seconds of df/ip recharging. It’s practically impossible to evade everything someone does, meaning that essentially, df/ip are just burning that is absolutely going to happen at one point or another. Are you with me? So basically here’s what you can do about it.

  • Remove it every 10 seconds.

That’s it. That’s all you can do about df/ip. Are some classes even capable of removing conditions every 10 seconds? I don’t think thieves would be. I know several engis (including myself) who count 10 in their head to try and optimize their ip procs at a time after some guy has used his condi removal, as well as several people who count 10 in their head while fighting necromancers in some kind of attempt to reduce their condi output. But what can you do after that 10th tick? You can’t block or remove it or anything like that, you can just take it. It’s absolute.

What I propose is that dhuumfire and incindiary powder be changed to a buff (similar to a thief venom) that recharges every 11-12 seconds which applies the burn on the next attack, considering that’s pretty much how it works anyway. What that means however, is that like thief venoms and unlike current df/ip, you can counterplay it. With a system like this, you can:

  • Evade the shot that procs df/ip
  • Block the shot that procs df/ip
  • Blind the shot that procs df/ip
  • Invuln the shot that procs df/ip

Just like that, bamn, you can do something about df/ip besides remove it, fringe builds get to keep their IP (and I’m sure necros feel the same about DF somewhere, but I don’t play them) and the game’s skill cap is increased by putting the burden of skill on the engi to monitor their ip procs instead of just mindlessly spamming grenades.

The only difference is that you would be giving a little itty bit more burning to low crit builds, but considering it’s now blockable and it would eventually happen anyway even with 0 crit, it’s not as big as it may sound. What do you think?

TL;DR: 11/12 second recharging buffs (similar to venoms) instead of 100% on-crit for DF/IP would be an appropriate nerf without moving it and killing build diversity, as well as increasing the skill cap and removing spam.

This is one of the silliest threads I’ve ever seen. I don’t know where to start. I shouldn’t be surprised, everyone gets real defensive about their class when it’s over the top and needs taking down a little.

We’ll start by looking at the change itself:

When have you EVER seen someone in PvP with 25 bleeds that doesn’t die 1 second later anyway? Have you ever thought “Maybe if I had 26 bleeds instead of 25, that guy would have died!”? No, you haven’t. Total kittening joke.

Staff is already poor in PvP and now they’re gonna make it worse? Really?

This has to be the real jewel in a pile of kitten. Something extremely powerful is potentially getting nerfed a tiny little bit and you claim it’s “poor” in an attempt to handwave? Staff? Poor? Get a load of that! Over 70% of necromancers are using a weapon set which is “poor”. But of course, it’s really not, it’s incredibly strong to be able to kitten out hard hitting conditions over and over from 1200 range near-instantly and you’re just calling it “poor” in an attempt to garner some kind of sympathy.

Seriously necrobros, frankly I’m just disappointed. The warriors forums are handling being nerfed MUCH better than here, probably because warriors actually accept that their strengths are very over the top. Why can’t you?

I will admit however (Disclaimer) that they are looking in the wrong compartments for necro nerfs, and they need to go towards Dhuumfire and Terror instead of the weapon skills. You don’t even have to think about Dhuumfire, it just happens, and Terror bombing is just following routine.

That’s the thing though. AI’s get blown up by the same thing you’re suggesting to be nerfed, so it would make them even stronger.

Definitely, if we have an ascended weapon in our hands then kits should scale to ascended damage too.

Oh god no, Blowtorch is already incredibly strong with it’s 6 seconds of burn on a low cooldown. Glue shot is the one that needs tweaking here, not sure how, probably speed of firing/projectile.

-Maybe adding additional condition duration per applied condition to modified ammo to make it a REAL GM trait?

Might work. Isn’t it kind of self-defeating though? I mean if you chuck 6 condis on someone, most of the condis applied earlier are going to not have much of an increase at all, meaning the bread and butter of your damage doesn’t get much of a boost. Condis are about coverage and intensity for the most part anyway.

Also you want to be careful with buffing things related to condi engineer. It’s already VERY strong. Opening up alternate builds is good and you’re probably safe messing around in firearms GMs (considering it locks you out of Grenadier) but any improvements to stuff in explosives or straight weapon skills and we’re going to have one hell of a godlike class.

The stealth from #4 bomb rarely goes off

The field is misleading and a combo field doesn’t actually exist until after the bomb explodes, which is roughly one second. No blast finisher will work until then. I can say for sure that there’s your problem there.

I personally have never had an issue with shield 4 especially in water fields, although I am playing on high ping.

Something I find when solo queuing at an American rational time (In the morning for me) is that the matches are normally very, very close. Everyone knows what they’re doing in terms of map control, everyone is able to hold their own in a 1v1 for a point, everyone is able to know who to focus and how to win a teamfight and how to watch their positioning. It makes for amazing matches even if you lose.

Something I’ve noticed when queuing at an Australian rational time is that the game tries to scrape together the only 10 oceanics playing, resulting in a very, very large skill spread. The game pretty much comes down to who can herd a bunch of headless chickens towards a point best and then try to carry a teamfight solo with a bunch of people who seemingly try to down and rally at every possible opportunity.

Let me get this clear because the last paragraph seemed harsh: I have nothing against new players. Everyone has to start somewhere. I just wish new players would be matched with other new players, because not only are they not learning when being repeatedly smashed, they’re ruining the enjoyment for better players. I consistently get up to about rank 100 during midday and then drop to sub 300 during oceanic times because you lose more points when losing against players who are on average worse than winning against them.

I’m sure there are better players above me who have a similar view towards me, and that’s completely fine. I LOVE close matches. Despite what everyone says about this game, close tPvP matches are amazing. I would personally honestly not mind waiting 20 minutes for even skill matchups, and I know others who agree with me.

TL;DR:
Game has population issue at large which needs to be solved, but it really hurts oceanic queues more than anything. Could we get a tweak to the matchmaking algorithm for low-population times until the population issue is fixed (china release?), because it’s really offputting and I can’t imagine what it would be like for new players.

Attatched is a screenshot of everyone’s reaction after a good kittening game. I don’t have a screenshot of a standard oceanic game because they often leave me so frustrated that I just leave, but imagine a bunch of expletives and mad people.

I agree that we don’t have much, but it’s a deliberate weakness of the class in my mind. Being able to evade condition skills via constant vigour, blocks and chain cc/blind/pressure makes up for the lack of condition clear (while not running HGH).

It’s why an Engi can get away with running few or no stunbreaks.

I would like to see something deep in the inventions line that gives condi removal though, because conditions are a right plague on defensive/bunker engis, and auto immune response just doesn’t feel like good gameplay.

Ok as a engi main:

Most of the nerfs were completely acceptable, perma vigour for kit builds is strong as kitten (And still possible to get, you forgot 10 in arms for swiftness on crit) and incindiary powder is a very strong trait that people should have to sacrifice more to get. I feel like you’re not doing enough to open up more alternate builds though, but that’s just my opinion. A lot of the less used utilities weren’t even touched and that change is not going to make a difference to turrets.

Thieves are still extremely reliant on the critical strikes line. 90% of thief builds will grab 30 critical strikes, and 90% of that 90% will grab executioner. It would be nice to see a few alternatives open up where possible and I don’t see this happening much. The permastealth nerf is good though, although I don’t see much in return for people who just run DD.

Warrior changes are great, hambow needed some severe taking down, but I still think the healing signet is the root of half the problems in the game. Nerf that bad boy or make it require some kind of active input and suddenly mesmers, eles all get a lot more viable again, hambow gets weaker, and so forth. All these other changes are skirting around the true problem.

I was wondering if any RIOT team member could tell me if people actually have fun roaming with prismatic builds? I mean you’re basically the equivalent of disgusting facerolling nyx pickers or terran players but there are so many of you so there has to be some merit in it.

No it’s just I passed geometry class in high school and don’t have to spend my time understanding shapes as a crutch to not actually being physically incapable of pressing more than 3-4 buttons total across the timeframe of a few minutes.

Can anyone else smell that? Smells like a prismatic mesmer getting defensive. You don’t need to get defensive bro, rolling your face across the keyboard gives you all the boons to be defensive already

Toss elixir H and toss elixir B are fine. They ARE normailzed. They will always give you a defensive boon for elixir H or a defensive boon for elixir B. I find it difficult to believe you will notice the effect that these have in a fight, especially considering the short durations on all of them.

As long as the stunbreak isn’t on absurd stuff (Why is that one glyph that you should probably use early in a fight a stunbreak? Doesn’t make any sense).
