If a thief is doing that much damage to you with stacked armour (You shouldn’t be doing that btw) then they are likely running Scholar rune, and will die in 2-3 hits. Hell just put combustive shot on a point and they’ll kill themselves trying to attack you.

That’s not to say a good thief won’t be able to kill you if they outplay you with well timed dodges, but in tPvP a thief isn’t some kind of 1-shotting machine which kills you instantly while taking literally no damage.

GW countbro. It all checks out in my opinion.

I wrote a transcript as I listened/waited for queue (No offense meant, not everyone has as much time as you and I, and this needs to be out there):

-All ideas/suggestions suggested by a player were run past 6 other experienced players in the class.
Spectating:
-Pet/AI bars should be hidden, only player health bars should display in the intrest of clarity.
-Free camera
-Tab functionality between players
-Colour coding for player/pets
-Conditions and buffs should have a timer for spectators.
Hotjoins:
-Add a queue join so you can play on the same team as your friends.
-New modes for hotjoins
-Alterac Valley equivalent from WoW
Game wide changes:
-More descriptive tooltips.
-Stealth cap for all classes: 8 seconds (No permastealth thief, prismatic mesmers)
-Lyssa rune internal cooldown to 60-80 seconds
-Improve leaderboards with team whole ratings/team leaderboards, alternate accounts/decay fix.
Mesmer:
-Reverse the greatsword damage mechanic – more damage closer, less further away, risk/reward
-Speed up scepter 1 autoattack
-Scepter autoattack should apply a bleed on third auto chain
-Scepter 2 should always hit the target only if the target you have selected hit you
-More access to swiftness
Guardian:
-Unscathed contender – aegis should be moved to lower priority on block order (IE shield block, focus 5 block) so that aegis can be kept up for unscathed contender.
-Signet of mercy’s cast time is too long.
-Healing Breeze should be a 1.5 second cast, 35 second recharge.
-Kindled Seal – effects should be stronger, moved to a lower tier, or reworked into a different viable trait.
Necromancer:
-Colour coded staff mark aoe (In order to differentiate between mark types)
-1/4th second activation time on marks, if you trigger the area of effect of the mark and dodge immediately
-Spectral armour should be reduced to ~6-7% life force gain.
-Revert DS fear back to 1 second.
-Signet of spite weakness reduced.
-Scale minions to player stats, improve AI
-Bone minion should move to target before exploding (akin mesmer shatters)
-Well of power/darkness CD’s reduced by 5 seconds
-Revert putrid mark change
Ranger
-Get an extra ability in the spirit chain: “hold” ability that pauses the spirit. This unlocks the active (after a CD of roughly 5 seconds) and after the active is used the spirit follows the ranger again (Really good suggestion imo)
-Sword 1 attack chain should be cancelable
-Spirit procs should no longer proc from the spirit’s active effects
-Ranger pets should scale from ranger stats
-Axe 5 offhand should be brought down in duration and cooldown, no retal
-All pet actives should be controllable to the ranger, with autocast toggelable. Cost to manual usage of skills. (Radical change).
-First stun to go to your pet (via that one trait) doesn’t work with basi venom, fix this
-Reduce the hitbox of small spirits, increase the renewal spirit’kittenbox.
Elementalist:
-Buff conjures.
-Armour of earth CD to 60 seconds
-Lower damage of lightning strike and electric discharge by 10%
-Dust devil instant cast
-Reduce arcane wave/blast damage by 20%, then give them the benefits of elemental surge, while giving elemental surge a cooldown reduction trait instead.
-Reduce attunement CD by 1 second.
Warrior
-More telegraphed skull crack
-Fix para sigil
-Lower the amount of signet of healing by some degree.
PERSONAL OPINION ON THAT ISSUE: Make it more active, it’s so passive and boring right now but so good. Slash it’s base healing to half, but then make it heal more over time temporarily if you successfully use adrenalin via skills on a target.
-Fix zerker stance to reflect tooltip (-100% condi reduction)
-Can double use the same adrenalin pool (mainly longbow)
Thief
-Pistol auto damage boost
-Pistol 2 rehaul (gets imob according to leak)
-CnD aftercast reduced, damage lsightly buffed.
-Flanking/larcenous 10-15% damage reduction, flanking required to get larcenous
-Shadow trap active removed
-Initiative price increase for infiltrator’s return, reduce range to 900
-Infiltrator’s strike should require LOS
Engineer:
-Elixir R res amount lowered, make insta cast
-fix automated response
-Shorter cast time on tool kit (Do you mean magnet?)
-Slick shoes slower cast time, fix speed
-Incentive for people to not use 2 kits
-Change elixir U completely
-Make turrets last a short amount of time and explode after duration
-Increase damage on auto attacks
-Give melee first weapon (I’ve seen leaks of an engineer hammer in the alpha client, so good news there).

All in all, great list, please take note developers.

I keep getting finished by stealthed thieves who can easely do this even in an allyed zerg seeing that I am an ranger and my only interrupt abbility needs a target.

If you fire the ranger interrupt skill untargeted, the interrupt occurs around your body, interrupting thieves from stealth. Guardians and Rangers are the only classes that can do this with their downed 2’s.

Learn your class before complaining.

People use the healing turret as an instant heal most of the time: press overcharge (F1) then detonate it instantly for a healing burst. It heals better than the medkit over time.

The build on October 1st is going to add WXP consumables to player kills, which should make a pretty sizable dent in this. It is the case that making the events themselves reward WXP is problematic at best because of how easily they cycle. All that said, we’ll make more adjustments as needed to make this a better place to play WvW. A bonus for kills in the area isn’t a bad idea at all.

I like that concept, good work.

However, can we at least have WXP for flipping the buff on a certain borderland? It’s no easy task, and it doesn’t exactly cycle fast.

I retraited last night so I could get more heals/regen from water skills, I still couldn’t regen or cleanse fast enough. The conditions just melted me. :-(

Either the condition meta needs to go or the cooldown on the regen condi removal trait in water GM needs to go back where it was before. D/D cantrip would be good again, sure, but it wouldn’t be OP and at least they have s/d fresh air as an option too.

Considering I have first hand seen the strength of this build on the receiving end I’m aware that this can be very good, but I wonder why you’re using HGH/Might stacking rune set up with minimal might building capabilities? I mean, if you use someone else’s fire field you’ve got two blast finishers, and then weapon swap, and then enhance preformance off cooldown, I can only see ~18 stacks of might being up at any one time at maximum.

Of course that’s not horrible, but surely those rune slots would be better used damage wise on superior shrek runes or scholar or something?

Support Roles - WXP rewards?!

The main issue currently with rewarding support classes is the way that participation is determined by the game. It makes it much harder to provide sufficient incentive to people doing things like healing, defending, etc. We have some ideas to try and improve this situation, but it is complicated. The best example I can give is the events to escort the supply dolyaks, which literally just say you helped if you are standing there when it ends, which is not an accurate representation of much of anything.

Until the systems are all capable of properly determining support, it’s difficult to properly reward support and defense. We are working on solutions that I hope will make it somewhat better, however.

You could reward it via shared tags.

If you heal someone by a significant amount (1500hp? That’s like ~8 seconds of regen given out with a clerics build), and that person then scores a kill, then the tag should also be given to the healer.

This is not a trinity game, I don’t see why you should get more or some reward for support. Tag the enemies, move on.

Yes, but supporting for the team can often be more beneficial to more DPS. Example is support ele: to deal aoe damage (for tags) you’d have to switch out of water attunement for 10 seconds when you could be continuously sending out heals to the team. And you’re punished for this. ?

Ranger is best, I reckon Engineer is pretty garbage underwater.
Their default attack is so slow, then they have an attack you have to detonate, then there’s an immobilize, then there’s a timed bomb and a garbage condi attack.

Really, really bad.

It really isn’t that great. I’ve spent a lot of time playing one recently and the flaws become obvious eventually. They’re not outwardly that bad of a class, they’re just outclassed in all fields these days. Warriors and rangers do “tanky dps” better than d/d bunker, thieves do burst better, guardians do mid bunker better and they all do it at like 1/4th the skill floor of an ele. It’s embarassing when a ranger sits there pressing 1 and beats an ele carefully setting up combos, baiting dodges for burst, switching attunements, etc.

The amount of eles in the pax qualifiers and ESL reflects this.

All they need to do is fix sigil of paralyzation to tone down the stun duration of hammer and mace/shield. That’s the only thing that’s actually broken.

If you are getting chain-CC’d by a warrior then you made a mistake, simple as that. Earthshaker’s almost as easy to dodge as Churning Earth for goodness’ sake. Stop trying to fight in melee while they have mace out if you keep getting hit with Skull Crack. It’s far from impossible to survive for the 8 second duration of Berserker Stance.

It’s not about dodging any one thing, the uptime and number of the hammer/longbow build’s powerful attacks mean you have a constant stream of different attacks to dodge, and unless you’re abusing energy sigils with permanent vigour, you are literally not going to have enough dodges for it all. The area of control with skills like earthshaker and combustive shot that that particular warrior build is enough to force almost everyone off the point.

Disregarding my opinion the bloodlust buff and the effect it gives (Which is something for another thread), why don’t you get WXP at all for the urines?

As a guy who spends most of his time roaming (I like good fights more than anything), it’s gonna take a lot of effort/time to catch up to others in terms of stuff like defence against guards. I also don’t feel any incentive to cap the ruins while roaming, I’d rather go kill people some more than stand there motionless for 30 seconds.

I guess it’s fair for actually capping the ruins to not give WXP because of the fast turnover time making them farmable, but I with a small 4 man team capped the whole thing while outnumbered – turning the bloodlust buff in a borderland to your team, ultimately the goal of the whole thing, also gives 0 WXP.

As a warrior main: you’re not wrong. I actually kinda wish we had before back, I almost prefer flat out sucking in every role to being shoehorned into boring passive builds. I feel like they should have balanced in moderation instead of flat out doubling the healing signet, for example.

Also: According to the leaked notes, barely anything is changing, just para sigil being fixed. We’ll see. At least they’re not overdoing it.

i want to start wtih a difference between mindless player and skilled player because there is a great difference.

Mindless player
S: warrior, engineer (condition), thief (full zerker)
A: ranger (condition), necromancer
B: mesmer, ranger (power), engineer (power), elementalist (holder), guardian
C: engineer (power), thief (stealth), elementalist (power)

Skilled player
S: warrior ( + ), necromancer (condition), thief (stealth/condition), ranger (spirit), engineer (condition), elementalist (holder)
A: mesmer (phantasm)( + ), ranger (power build)( + ), guardian (holder), engineer (power), elementalist (power)
B: necromancer (power), mesmer (condition), guardian (zerker), ranger (bm)
C: none -with a minimum of skill and a smart party you can do everything-

Alright, good idea but… engineer S tier on mindless player, necromancer S tier on skilled player and not the other way around? I can’t see newbies being good on engineer at all, even the most mindless engineer builds – hgh and sd – take a fair bit of practice/talent to master.

The god of luck decided to rain on your parade. Nothing like that has ever happened to me, I’d go so far as to notice I’ve never even noticed transmute before. Should be tweaked to reduce passive RNG though, how about first condition after drinking an Elixir is changed to a boon, 10 second cooldown?

Assuming class tiers mean best build in it’s place in a team:

S:
-Necromancer
(Really good at lots of everything at once)

A:
+Warrior
(Huge buffs to healing and condi removal made them hard to focus while doing enormous damage)
+Ranger – Spirits
(Spirits still bring strong team support and really good damage from the ranger)
=Guardian – Bunker
(Guardian strong as ever, although they may have “sitting in a circle” competition from Warrior now)
=Engineer – Kit/condi
(Just feels ever so slightly redundant to ranger with a bit more teamfight power)
=Thief – s/d or d/p – both ok

B
=Mesmer
(Portal will never be bad, no matter how easily the class falls under millions of conditions)
=Elementalist
(Feels a bit redundant to other tanky dps builds like most warriors but good eles like Blinx and cmc almost make it feel like S+)

Nah, the changes coincide neatly with my existing build (variant on standard HGH) so well that I’ll pretty much just keep using it. 100% stealth on elixir S? 100% stability on elixir B? Delicious.

Dead game nontheless, this is what happens when you don’t actually care about the game you’re developing.

EDIT: The “338” next to the eye on the stream denotes the number of people who have watched the twitch vod. the live event got 2000 which isn’t really all that horrible considering it’s a low pop PvP and there was a WvW GvG on at the same time, as well as league. I guess the little community we have is interested in bettering the game, I just wish Anet was as well.

In #1 you’re saying that you can’t understand enough of the combat without being latched on to one specific player. Then, in #2, you say that epic skills should have epic animations. If we did #2, would that help with #1?

I think the issue here is that more important skills aren’t more visually impressive than regular skills and fall into the soup of effects during teamfights. This is probably important for the players to reduce visual clutter, but for spectators, I feel like we can add more obvious particle effects to something like Entangle or Spirit of Renewal to make it stand out during messy teamfights.
