I don’t even enjoy WvW that much and spend most of my time playing PvP, but I think disregarding my opinion on the game mode I should say it’s pretty kittening bullkitten that anet are trying to force people into playing a mode they don’t want to play by killing off GvG. To draw more people into PvP they could fix the millions of issues that people have and make numerous threads by experienced players OUTLINING simple changes in the sPvP forum, yet we have an absolutely glacial rate of change and I hope you like patches that actually hurt they game more than they add to it by adding passive dominant specs like Warriors and Spirit Rangers and delaying balance fixes for them for several months because of ESPORTSSSSS.
And yet they’re trying to funnel people into sPvP before they actually spend any kittening effort on the mode? I’ve never seen a dev that spends so much effort AVOIDING fixing their kittening game. Beyond kittened.
I can say all this here because it’s not like they moderate this forum, that would imply they cared about their game in any shape or form.

(Huge buffs to healing and condi removal made them hard to focus while doing enormous damage)

(Spirits still bring strong team support and really good damage from the ranger)

(Guardian strong as ever, although they may have “sitting in a circle” competition from Warrior now)
=Engineer – Kit/condi
(Just feels ever so slightly redundant to ranger with a bit more teamfight power)
=Thief – s/d or d/p – both ok

(Portal will never be bad, no matter how easily the class falls under millions of conditions)

(Feels a bit redundant to other tanky dps builds like most warriors but good eles like Blinx and cmc almost make it feel like S+)

Here, let me one up you: I’ve had (mostly)guild groups and pug groups for arah p2/3/4 that were way slower than me soloing alone or duoing. It’s sad how bad players can slow you down tremendously.

People just want variety. At this point any new game mode will do. How can anyone still stand conquest after a whole year?
Yes, we want variety, and deathmatch would be cool for hotjoins or if it was heavily tweaked to encourage fighting, but not in the sense of “two bunches of people fighting each other” and nothing else. That’s a clusterkitten that enables so, so many gimmick strats.

erm…i dont have balls at all ….im female…but id like to say jon ty for posting the patchnotes early and ty for working hard.
allthough i would like u to try to focus on zvz for next balancing patch as balance in wvw is terrible. my class is stuck as a duelist and unable to get well deserved buff in wvw, due to spvp 1v1 focus. i am forced to either reroll or be a servant for necro/warrior/guardians as a support class only (veil/tw/portal/nullfield) i lack aoe as all of it comes from cloes that die before they even get the shatter to work, phantasms die too quick, if i try more dps, i lack everything from armor to toughness(warriors are tough, have health, have a high dps, have too much heal).
wvw has become a nightmare for me due to the balance issues. i dont wanna be support only. i wanna be a threat again like all the dominant classes are atm. u destroyed my glamour build and didnt give us anything back for zvz. u even nerfed clone health, nerfed phantasms, nefed bb, nerfed confusion to the ground and all we get is a aoe condition cleanser on a mantra? mantras are terrible! unless they get a zvz makeover they are not worth it at all.
i know mesmers are good in spvp, but it is the least played class in the game. doesent tell u that something?
in wvw we are bottom next to rangers that i barely see. come to t2 and see the fight for yourself. check out the zvz part of wvw, not the roaming part! see for yourself the monster called warrior u have created. this is not fun anymore for me and i really love this game. but the imbalance in wvw pushes me away.

Yeah, because 1v1 tournaments actually have the people wanting to kill each other. If 1v1 matchmaking was put in with a leaderboard people would run 100% cheese gimmick builds, permastealth thief comes to mind, just like they would with tdm with no direction to the fighting. Please try and think about it for just a moment.
You know whats not working?…. conquest that’s not working and never will.
The deathmatch fights in WvW work and were growing a huge community. 3v3 to 5v5 range is very balanced its works its fun much less gimmicks then conquest. Anet is killing it with orbs probably because its been growing a huge legit PvP community on the brink of passing the offical pvp mode of conquest.
People that do deathmatch have all done the joke PvP conquest mode and many are higher rating then the people still supporting conquest.
The majority of good players in the game have quit or are doing deathmatch in WvW been that way for months.
Same deal. Are you honestly trying to compare WvW to sPvP? They are two completely different things and GvG is also a game with the actual intent by two groups to kill each other. This has nothing to do with WvW anyway.

The issue is that winning in conquest consistently is a lot harder than build wars 1v1 or 20v20 spam v spam. But those players might have a hard time admitting that.
would conquest be easier if the control points were 4 pips control point instead?
i.e.
2 blue versus 1 red on a control point.
blue starts neutralizing / capturing at 1 pip (25% speed)5 blue versus 1 red on a control point
blue starts neutralizing / capturing at 4 pips (100% speed)
It’s a good start but it would just encourage 4 bunkers and some kind of bursty build because you don’t actually have to kill anyone, just stand about.

Let’s be honest, it would be pretty bad.
This game is fundamentally flawed at base. People are too tanky, mobile, and it’s filled with get out of jail free cards which let you amend for your own kittenty plays for absoloutely no penalty.
Conquest brings focus to the fighting, it brings small skirmishes and teamfights and duels at the same time, it brings strategy. Most importantly it rewards the victor of fights. I mean at any time, a thief could just stealth and run away, or an ele could rtl, or a warrior could nope the kitten out of there with his millions of mobility skills and insane regen. Don’t try and lie to me and tell me that there are counters to this that are easily available, it takes far, far more skill/effort/skills reserved to stop this than it takes to preform it.
Let’s compare what happens in WvW if you run away after being outplayed to if you run away in tPvP: WvW: you get to keep your stacks of applied fortitude and your stacks of bloodlust, you don’t pay money to repair your armour, and you lose absolutely nothing but your pride. In tPvP if you lose the fight and retreat then the enemy gets to cap the point, earning them points to win the game, and putting you out of position for a while. Which sounds more fair as a punishment for being outplayed to you?
Not only that, it adds strategy (backcapping, trickling the other team, leaving your point to help mid but leaving it open, the spread at the start, etc) that can’t be found in tdm, which is just mindlessly rushing at people. And clutch plays, like killing a guy on point to decap it so you win 500-499.
In TDM what’s to stop people running 5 thieves and chaining stealth? 5 eles? 5 wars with soldiers and healing sig? Nothing. It would be boring as all kitten. Have it for hotjoins, sure, but conquest will always be better compeditively.
Sure there are downsides in that people can tailor builds deliberately made to abuse the objective (bunkers) but this is unavoidable in a game wherin adjustable builds are a thing. How about we tweak those builds instead of starting over again with a new, completely more broken gametype? Besides, anyone who says bunker guards take no skill has never seen a good guardian (arken, for example) playing – it’s very reactive if you’re playing well. I will agree that the bunker warriors need a little nerf because it’s very passive even at it’s highest level (sorry juaraz).
Some modes that will work pretty well:
Payload: See TF2. One team moves an objective (a bomb) along a set track slowly when they’re standing nearby it. Side objectives along the way stop or speed up the bomb temporarily. Adds focus, splits the team, doesn’t prioritize bunkers because they have to stay out in the open and vulnerable.
Bomb: See: Counter Strike. No respawns, two objectives on the map, whoever gets wiped out first is strong GG. However, to stop endless kiting and hide and seek, one team gets a bomb which they can plant at one of two points to win, if it is not planted by a time limit they lose. This means if one team endlessly runs they are punished by defeat.
CTF: Provided the flag carrier is given a normalized amount of HP, Toughness, and has his bar replaced with a generic heal, leap and evade skill. Right now some builds/classes (warriors, rangers) are far, far too good at taking the orb in spirit watch.
TLDR: People seem to have this idea that deathmatch will encourage people actually fighting each other when in reality it will only encourage avoiding it.

Devon has already admitted that they have other priorities, I though that was PvE with 2 week content patches, but I guess it’s really sPvP.
I wish it was sPvP. That means they’d have actual balance patches quicksmart instead of a month of spirit ranger dominance followed by 2 months of heal sig warrior dominance, with broken leaderboards and boring gameplay (IE passive specs being dominant, skyhammer in solo q).
The saddest part of this video is they’re spending more effort avoiding fixing PvP than it would take to actually just fix PvP itself.
I disagree with Sacrx though, conquest is required for tPvP. It adds focus to the fighting. This game is broke as kitten at core: filled with get out of jail free cards and absurd mobility/escape skills. But conquest adds direction to the combat: it promotes 1v1’s (don’t lie to me and tell me you get reactive 1v1’s in gvg…) and teamfights simultaneously, it adds strategies that don’t exist in random deathmatch (see: hotjoins) such as breaking stalemates with stuff like tranq/trebs, bringing 2 to bare at the risk of being backcapped, rushing far, etc. Most importantly, if you run away, you have lost the fight. Scenario: two people going for far at the start split, an ele and an engi. The ele makes sloppy mistakes, gets all round outplayed by the engi, but at any time he can just press RTL and run away. If it were TDM the ele has lost absoloutely nothing by being outplayed, but because he runs away he loses the point because of it. What’s to stop people running gimmick kitten in TDM?
Anyway, what disgusts me the most is that they’re trying to force people into PvP who don’t want to play it. Why can’t you just fix PvP and more people will play it (And not have any more ESPORTSS until passive spec kitten is fixed, delaying the balance patch because of PAX half killed PvP, anet), and accept that people who want to gvg/wvw will want to gvg/wvw and don’t want to do small team strategy stuff? That’s kittening absurd. The both can exist harmoniously. kitten you, arenanet.
Edit: It’s also extremely perplexing that they tried so hard to gear the game around compeditive sPvP play yet didn’t have staples such as leaderboards, custom servers and spectator modes at launch. That’s like starting up a business selling hamburgers, and then giving people nothing but bits of bread. ???

Actually that is not true Writetyper. You can double that damage while having 16k hp (17k at end of the week) and 2850 armor. Keytrait is “hidden killer”.
So it’s a gimmick thief build that relies on food and imba WvW stats to do kitten all damage except when backstabbing? Like literally the only damage it’s doing is backstab and kitten y non-crit autos? Why not: avoid getting backstabbed, kill him when he comes in for a backstab, have aegis/blocks up, or just kittening kill him with conditions. Or, abuse food buffs yourself.

Ummmm, that vid looked like a guardian doing 15K burst in a split sec. I don’t know what u were trying to convey but the least of my worries is a condi war when there are guards that can burst like that.
That guardian was full glass. Anyone can do that with full zerkers gear and glass traits.

what are you talking about? if you are being chased, they will chase you into the water.
Wherin you can’t be finished, can’t be hit from above if you hide under the bridge, get a refresh on weapon skills/different utils, can still interrupt with a ranged attack, and if you’re a ranger can’t be killed.

Here’s what I’d change were I anet, warrior main so I might be biased, but just throwing a few ideas out there:
-Berserker’s stance now blocks all conditions besides Bleed, Burning and Torment, which have their duration halved.
Reasoning: Condi builds can still get their damage out in it’s enormous duration but it prevents the warrior from being kittened over and kited. Warriors counter necromancers too hard because of this + skull crack against a low regen class, so I feel if this and warriors in general get nerfed, then all the other rediculous stuff should get nerfed too. Dial the game back a little bit so we can see less hard counters, less extremes.
-Healing Signet: I don’t run this, I feel it’s overpowered but only slightly, the primary thing I hate about it is how passive it is. So why not add some kind of conditional to it’s usage, like, the healing is based on adrenalin ? Or, slash the healing by 50 and give it an active that increases the healing rate by 100%/120%/140% for 8 seconds, kinda like troll unguent. ANYTHING to make it less passive.
-Skull crack: stun for 1.5/2/2.5 seconds AND THEN a 1 second daze. Reasoning: Just slightly less effective, this kitten is amazing. Also fix whatever’s making the sigil of para go from 3 seconds>4 seconds.
-Cleansing Ire: fine imo
-Hammer: fix the sigil of para thing again, should be fine so less autos can be snuck in.

My suggestion: Upon picking up the orb, replace everyone’s HP and toughness with a flat value, remove all traits, and replace all their skills with something like an attack, a short leap, an evade, and a heal. IE: normalize the orb carrier’s ability, so that some classes (ranger and warrior) aren’t blatantly better at it.
They’ve rejected this because they don’t want people learning new abilities upon picking up the orb. Apparently, never seeing a map in the competitive scene is better than having people learn four or five extra buttons.
In which case just replace the skills with nothing.
Nothing is better than what we have now. There’s literally no way you can stop a warrior equiped in the right way without bringing 4 people to bear and losing all your points, from capping the orb.

Longbow 5 is a fair complaint – the only thing to differentiate it is the projectile – and I say this as a core warrior longbow user, but the longbow burst skill spends like 2 seconds travelling through the air and doesn’t do any damage on first contact anyway (short delay before it does).

Spirit watch flat out sucks. I have a warrior with healing signet, soldiers gear, zerker stance and two stability utils with sword/greatsword specifically designed to run the orb in solo queue. As long as we have someone hold raven you literally can’t lose.

Necro: huge damage output, huge vit and toughness, Warrior: borderline unkillable with signet + dire stats while still putting out good damage, Ranger: sit there evading everything and never dying, single best backpoint defender in the game…

Howso? I apologize if I’ve come off as rude. I was using the ‘protip’ line a couple times, but I apologized for that and explained that I forgot it’s used to insult people. I was actually trying to be funny and reference the era of gaming SAB is referencing. I really do appreciate the feedback I’m getting here and want to encourage people to share their opinions. That’s how I grow as a designer.
The feedback I like the least is the accusations that I’m basically trying to sell stuff. Since it’s not true it’s not helpful to me. But stuff about difficulty spikes, specific mechanics problems, etc. Those are very helpful.
I kittening love you josh. Don’t listen to the vocal minority, 95% of the game is designed for poor players to be able to cope, let us have our 5%. The first world wasn’t even complex platforming, and now that some good stuff that reminds me of platformers of olde gets in we get endless complaints about it on the forums.
News flash: You are under zero obligation to complete SAB. If it’s too hard, just don’t do it. Move on. Please for the love of god, move on.
