2v2 survivor arena is my main wish.
There should be two restrictions to make: the first being that stealth for a team be capped to 30 seconds or so, as permastealth would be incredibly strong in a deathmatch situation, as would Prismatic Undestanding. The second is that after 10 minutes, the team that has done the most damage collectively should win – as they are the team that doesn’t have some unkillable bunker build doing laps.

Any other skill within the scope of GW2 is fair play. Res skills should not be taken out because they can be countered, and they take up slots which could be used for other powerful utilites. Hell, you can even hard res someone after they get stomped if you somehow manage to.

Reasoning: 1v1 is 90% build reliant. S/D thieves would likely be most of the people queuing for 1v1 arenas, maybe a skull crack warrior or two as well. That’s no fun, that’s just crossing your fingers and hoping. Build variety in dueling servers is pretty common but once a competitive spin on things, it becomes just rocks paper scissors 2.0.

A lot of synergy also exists between the two players in a 2v2 – combinations, focus fire, etc. It’s the perfect balance of player skill and teamwork.

“Rediculously OP” is an overstatement. They’re pretty strong, OP probably (Heal sig probably alone forces a lot of near-viable builds out of the meta) is the right term, but rediculously? They got hit by some pretty hard nerfs to everything but the rediculous banner regen bunker build last patch, the main thing being para sigil and the aoe nerf on longbow meaning you actually have room to fight vs a hambow warrior because the point isn’t lathered vigourously in fire 24/7.

Ok, the first thing I notice off the bat is that you have a really weird build with very little synergy. Like, it’s cool to make your own choices and all, but until you understand why you’re making those choices in terms of build it’s probably best to stick with something tried and tested. I don’t know your trait choices but in a broad sense just looking at the build now, here’s how you could improve: First off, ditch the med kit for a healing turret.
It’s hard to explain when one is appropriate over the other, but in most situations, healing turret is just far more practical due to being a really fast burst heal. To get maximum efficiency out of the heal turret, use it, then hit the heal skill again immediately to overcharge it (Making a water field) and then F1 in order to have the healing turret detonate in it’s own field. This heals for a very large amount in a very small time, and if you hit F1 again after that you’ll also get some regen from the toolbelt skill.
Elixir gun seems a bit weird of a choice – you’re running what looks like full zerkers but elixir gun has very poor damage scaling. I would personally swap that out for tool kit – combos well with a power build as it has a pull (Magnet>pry bar>net shot>jump shout = you just wiped someone out), skills with good damage coefficients, and a block to escape/neuter burst with. As for the turrets… I dunno man, turrets just seem like a wasted slot in general considering the low amount of damage they do you’re probably looking for quick fights considering how bursty you are. You could probably leave the flame turret (Although incinidary powder is probably layering down enough burn already), but I would swap out the other turret for a stunbreaker/utility skill – consider Slick Shoes, it’s very good because you can also get some CC down on your enemy as you escape. Another option is Elixir S (Good defensive stunbreaker, good for setting up magnet pulls) and Elixir B together, because if you take 20 alchemy you can get some good condi removal with that.
Supply crate is awesome, keep it.

As for actual fighting – what you’re doing isn’t really all that abysmall, I’ve seen far worse. I mean, look at that mes at the start – you nearly handled him, you dodged his izerker and some of his other burst, and even interrupted his mass invis. I really think if you were running a bit more of a coherent build you would have been able to kill him before he did what he did – which is lay down portal, jump out, let his illusions finish you (Those Illusionary Swordsmen do a LOT of damage, but they’re squishy and slow) and then port back in and finish you. What to dodge and when someone is about to use a skill is something you have to learn over time – some of the key stuff is that when he switches to sword and comes in at you like that, he’s probably looking to do a sword 2 (imob) into sword 3 (damage) combo, and as soon as you see him point, dodge immediately. Mesmers rely a lot on spiky burst skills/combinations to get you down. Something you should have been doing a bit more was kit switching – switching between kits lets you stay versatile, gives you swiftness/vigour (depending on build) and procs any on-swap sigils you might have.

After that you got hit by a tonne of treb shots – on Kyhlo, if you hear the announcer say “Artillery fire” or something like that, count 2, and dodge. Those REALLY hurt and they can turn a fight quite quickly. You can dodge and invuln treb shots, you just can’t block them.

After that you had a fight with a warrior – a tricky matchup for an engineer, but you could have played it a lot better which I’ll outline now. A lot of warriors (including that guy) rely on melee only – meaning if you manage to kite them with a ranged weapon you’ll come out on top easily. You need to get sucessive burst down on a warrior to beat their healing signet – so something you could have done there is waited until stability/zerker stance ran out, dropped supply crate on him, and then chain imob/cc/bursted him down from there. Poison (Elixir gun 3) also counters a lot of warrior sustain if you can get it down consistently.

After that you lost a teamfight due to being focused (Again, build deal, a few defensive skills would have reaaaally helped there – tool kit #4 for instance) and after that pretty much everything you did was alright. If I were to nitpick it’s that if somebody (that thief) is going to get stomped anyway, then you shouldn’t really hang around – waste of manpower. The rest of their team was tied up across the map and the guard could easily handle him.

A lot of effort went into what I’m going to have to put down as the silliest kitten I’ve ever seen.

Where to even start? Let’s go with the part where you complain about condition removal on banner bunker. “Banner regen” doesn’t mean LITERALLY 4 BANNERS in your slots. You get permanent regen bar ~5 seconds downtime with 1 banner, you don’t need kittening four. Try zerkers stance and lyssa runes in other slots.

On top of that, invest in movement and dodging occasionally. You just stood in his mess of minions taking hits.

Spirit Ranger takes more skill than warrior? Ha!

Only slightly. Spirit ranger has slightly lower apm than a standard hambow warrior (lol) but is also less forgiving (no stunbreaks or much active condi cleanse). It also depends on the matchup—for example, very few people are running warrior-killing mesmer specs for some reason, but warriors hard-counter spirit rangers. So in general, spirit rangers face more difficult fights with fewer mistakes allowed, but still have a very low apm and very few decisions to make other than positioning.

I put both specs somewhere around Animal Crossing in terms of difficulty to play.

What is a “Warrior killing mesmer spec” out of curiosity?

I swear, maguuma is the worst server to solo roam against. Barely anybody is willing to fight on their own merit and most of the ones that do hide behind perplexity.

Perplexity isn’t that great. The only build I’d argue it’s OP on is Engineer as they don’t actually sacrifice anything out of their regular build to get the huge confusion damage. If it’s a warrior or thief running Perplexity – guess what, they have to use kittenty condition weapons or kittenty physical weapons with their interrupts as opposed to good old pistol/shield for perplex procs – meaning outside of the perplex procs, they’re barely doing any damage. I’ve won several duels against players using perplex thieves (S/P AND p/d variants) who I know are very talented (If you’re reading this, you know who you are) using some simple kittening steps – cool down for a moment, stop spamming skills so that all he has to do for a perplex proc is interrupt at any time, clear your condis, and kill the guy relying on a single gimmick. It’s quite simple.

Something you have to remember is that when you’ve got 25 might stacked, you’re doing a lot of damage through that might that you’ve got stacked. You’ll notice a difference between physical damage when you’re at 25 between stats with pow/prec (rampagers) and those without (rabid, for example) but it won’t be huge and I personally would prefer some defensive stats (Unless it’s PvE in which case you can definitely afford to go all out dps) such as Rabid or Carrion. If you were going all-out DPS like rampagers I would personally chuck about ~15-20% critical damage on as well because then you’ll both be doing big dd burst and overwhelming them with conditions, which should probably be overall better with stacked might.

  • Variety. I swear this class has endless builds and can pretty much play every role. 10 points from one line to another changes everything.

I don’t know if it’s vital anymore. You used to need to pinpoint people and combo with bombs untraited to actually hit anything. Now they’re enormous even without.

I should probably mention that shrapnel is pretty ineffective without grenade kit. Bombs hit once, grenades three times, and the chance of a shrapnel proc (while good when it happens) is pretty low so you want to maximize the amount of chances. The might on heal trait is alright though.

I second 2v2 arena. 1v1 is unbalanced and build dependent. 2v2 is a lot better and more skill/synergy dependent. I’ve been in guilds that used to run regular 2v2 tournaments and they were very fun.

One thing though: stealth should have a limited pool of 20 seconds for both sides, otherwise thieves with 30 shadow arts and prismatic mesmers will be literally unstoppable. It’s still a strategic thing that can be used to help you but I don’t want it to be “stealthvstealth”.

October 15 Patch - Our Constructive Feedback

The Good:
Build diversity: Loads of stuff made slightly more viable, like DPS guard and so forth. More variety in builds is great and mixes things up a little.

Temple Layout Change: This is something that slipped under the radar a lot but temple is so much better now that the water is gone. My favorite map just got better.

Trait Tooltips: Pretty kittening great, the fact that I can directly check how much damage incendiary powder is going to do instead of having to do calculations is so easy. And trait changes (Like HGH) show up on the tooltips of the actual skills themselves, too. If I were to suggest an expansion on this it would be being able to chat link traits as you can skills, although with my understanding of GW2’s architecture this would be complicated.

Nerfs to OP specs: As far as I can see from my experience, the thing with this game right now is that there are so many builds at 9/10 level being outshone by the ones at 15/10 level. Bringing those down to a rational competitive level instead of buffing everything else seems like the logical solution to me, and that’s what’s started to happen – hammer/longbow is alright now, for example, after the longbow change and nerf to para sigil.

Condition floaters: Easily readable, especially good for bleeds.

The Bad:
Imobilize stacking: Not going to say more, other people have already mentioned why this is just not good. It’s so, so strong.

Delay: This patch took forever to come out and it was very, very needed.

That’s actually about it, nothing bad was introduced in this patch besides the bugs at the start, which is gonna happen whatever you do. More testing maybe?

The Missing:
Lots of things I want so let’s go with the most wanted:

Healing Signet change: Not even necessarily a nerf, just a change to make that sit there and get huge sustain without doing anything playstyle that bunker warriors have. Warrior is just not fun to me at all anymore.

Rewards/incentives: Nothing to bring more players in in general is what I mean by this. Not sure what.

Gametypes: Conquest is fine, don’t get me wrong, but I really would like some diversity. 2v2 survivor arenas where stealth is capped to like 20 seconds total for the team or so would just make my day, would even use the same map.

Hotjoin overhaul: Hotjoins are very spammy and the skill gap is very offputting to new players. Some kind of unranked drop in/drop out queue system instead maybe? That way you could queue with friends.

Visual clutter: I have no idea what’s going on with all the pets and particles and stuff. In my opinion anythin that’s not a player should have an icon instead of a name.

In optimal conditions, power does. I think PvE proves that considering power builds are almost always superior to cond builds there. But – optimal conditions are rare. Protection? Power damage cut by a massive 1/3rd. High toughness target? Further reduction. Endure pain? All gone. Add to that that conditions can generally be spammed, especially through condition procs and overall conditions can be a lot more damaging in the long run.

This game sometimes, man. There’s also another minionmancer up on the keep point. That’s right, too much PETTING ZOO to fit in one screenshot.

I blame everyone who complained that minions and turrets and stuff weren’t viable, because apparently if you complain enough that’s what gets changed and not everything else. How is it fun to have the AI do the fighting for you anyway?
