How to stomp a thief in wvwvw?

in WvW

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

Dodge to them as soon as they go down and begin your stomp. They will be forced to use their 2nd skill. When they do, cancel and straight away dodge to their new location and stomp again. If you can’t see them, guess. You need to dodge because their #1 downed skill cripples and if you walk you won’t reach them in time.

The alternative is of course the standard method of just pouring on the deeps.

I would like to try playing my mediums/light armors in CoE but have no idea where to start, all I have is zerker gear atm and dont wanna buy bad armor or armor just for CoE. Also want to be able to do some damage so if anyone has a guide for that, it would be appreciated. Not so much specific classes, just in general for non-heavy.

Use zerkers becuase if you don’t dodge alpha’s aoe you die with whatever set you’re using. Maybe you’ll be left at very low with a soldier’s set but you SHOULD be dodging every alpha aoe he puts down.

Source: used to do coe every night. This is not a min/max boss where you want to tweak your build, this is personal skill and twork, pure and simple.

Why do most PuGs fail imbued?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Writetyper.1985

Alright. Fears (Or at least Fear Me) will work on his shield provided he doesn’t have stacks of defiant. He will, when feared with the shield up, move the opposite direction at roughly triple speed. Co-ordinate with your team beforehand to say “Please make sure he has no stacks of defiant” (Probably the hardest part to understand for a pug :/), then fear him, and then you have roughly 30 seconds to clear the lava eles. before taking down the shield.

Given that defiant is an issue that pugs have trouble with (Because paying attention to it is useless 100% everyhere else), you also want to say to everyone to be patient and take it slow but safe. If you move him to the middle (He will follow if you swap sides) then there’s a much better chance that he wont go for a villager right next to him, and you can be a bit safer. Patience is key, you don’t want to rush in, die, and then have 4 team members rush in to try and res you.

Also potentially his most dangerous attack, the one that applies agony and a decent amount of burn damage, is the hardest one to dodge because it has the most subtle wind-up. Once you learn that one he’s practically soloable.

I don’t know about you, but I would like to see smaller dungeons. With 5 people it’s enough of a clusterkitten already. I’ve been trying to solo or 3-man some dungeons recently, and it puts a whole new spin on the bosses when you can’t just ignore every attack and try for maximum dps (Almost in a min/max way, like cof P1 speedrunners).

With less people, every action you do means more.

And maybe with less people they would realize that damage sponge bosses are not kittening fun asdf

I think heart exp should be waaaayyy bigger. Potentially double. Because right now it’s twice as effective to pretty much just ignore them and explore and do events. It should be an option – ignoring them should be viable in terms of levelling speed, but you shouldn’t be punished for stopping to do a heart.

Not like “balance” in levelling matters though, leveling isn’t difficult and if it was everyone would just make a 5 sig war.

Ascalonian fractal – we kill humans, cliffside – we kill humans, who is the “failed” member of Destiny’s Edge – human, which race has virtually no presence in story missions – yup humans, etc.

I can understand the wish to stay away from the standard human-centric worlds in fantasy. But anet overdid it. By a lot.

Because humans are generic as kitten. Have you been to queensdale? There is nothing I could describe human zones as with anything less than “extremely generic”.

Besides, I’m really not feeling what you’re saying. Humans are everywhere.

yes, because the asura lowbie zones are so very non-generic.

Well… yeah. Sarcasm is pointless if it’s true.

Please provide a survey of a significant portion of the playerbase which shows metrica is any less generic than queensdale.

The only thing I see are different architecture and more mechanical enemies.

“Please provide a survey for every opinion posted on forums to prove said opinion”

No, use common sense. Look at it. It’s 100% some generic medieval town. Every single generic RPG is set in something like that. Generic medieval architecture. Generic landscape. Generic medieval NPCS. Generic missions (Help the farmers to farm!). Generic weapons, generic dialogue and generic enemies. You’d have to be insane to call a jungle with high tech diminutive geniuses and advanced technical triangular architecture, in a fantasy game, generic.

Humans are just humans. If I wanted to see humans I’d go kittening anywhere. It’s boring to see humans in a major role unless they’re an extremely well developed character. This is why major FPS games often have their characters described as boring and undeveloped, because it’s some “grim and edgy guy with a history in the army who makes funny one-liners”. We’ve literally seen it all before, in one cliche or another.

Maybe if the main humans were canthan or elonan? That’s cool, a bit exotic, a bit off the beaten path. But no. Krytans are like literally every other human country from generic fantasy games or movies.

PSA: Don't randomly invite people to party

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

You can also do neither, it just sits up in the top left and doesn’t really bother anything.

Well he cancelled the invite because it was an accident. That kicks you. I tested it again recently.

The chances of someone solo’ing Lupi and then accidently inviting that player is very, very low, so I’m gonna keep on randomly inviting people to my farm runs. If they don’t want in, they can simply decline.

Soloing lupi isn’t the only thing someone could be doing solo in an instance. How about messing around trying to break out of the map? I’ve even seen people farming the risen at the start of arah by pulling them to the camp. Is there something wrong with asking before you invite people out of the blue?

This incident very rarely happens. I’m not going to go through the trouble of having to whisper every single person I want to party up in shelt/pen just because someone else had a rare occurence of being kicked out of a dungeon.

Pen/shelt is an obvious exception because if they’re standing outside pen/shelt then they’re obviously not trying to solo a dungeon.

On top of this, is it so wrong to ask first outside of obvious situations like pen/shelt farming? It’s a bit of courtesy

PSA: Don't randomly invite people to party

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

EDIT: Case of the matter is, currently it’s possible to kick people from instances if they’re not in a party. This is a problem/bug, so just to be safe and for common courtesy, ask before inviting someone unless they’re absoloutely 100% willing.

So there I was trying to solo lupi. It’s hard, but my god it’s fun. The first time I got kicked out after I had mastered P1 and was still getting used to P2 because of the server reset. That’s okay, I came back the next day, solo’d my way through path 2 to get to lupi in an hour or so, and then got to the fight at which point I managed to get him down through P3 to about 25% health after about 10 attempts and 45 minutes. And then someone accidentally clicked “invite to party” instead of “send mail”, and I got kicked, and I had to start again. From scratch. Turns out if you’re not in a party, and you get invited to one, you get kicked from instances, like dungeons. So,

to people in general: ask before inviting someone to party. I’ve been guilty of this, but it’s both considerate and good forethought on the off chance someone is doing something important in a dungeon solo.
to people who want to solo run: If you’re in any party – even one with people not in the dungeon – this doesn’t happen. So just invite a bro and then they can afk or whatever they do, with the added bonus of moral support.
to anet: please fix :*(

Would Dungeons be Revitalised if...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

Nah, I’m a huge fan of the idea of skill involved in the making of a legendary and I don’t think this is a good solution. You have to think of the repurcussions: every single encounter would be put under heavy scruitiny by runners, everyone would complain once they found something too hard, people would complain about the idea of unskilled/uncapable players being “locked out from legendaries”, people would complain about being forced into groups, people would complain about simin and as Saulius said dungeon path selling would be huge. I like the idea on paper but I think this is a situation where the cons outweight the pros.

Optimally I’d like to see small personal challenge solo dungeons for legendary items. Picture this: you have to explore a region (magumma, shiverpeaks, ect) and for every event you do or champion you kill (stuff like that) you get some kind of token. Once you have a hefty amount (say, 2 hours of play) you get to open an instance which is personal. This could be really really difficult and tricky to finish – even with some kind of a guide you need to have a level of personal skill to pass. When you do, you get one component of a gift for making a legendary – and you’d have to do it 4 times, once for ascalon, maguuma, kryta, and the shiverpeaks.

Ultimately that’s a pipe dream, because it would be a lot of development time spent in something maybe 1% of players will ever care about, but kitten would it be nice. I would respect anyone with a legendary a lot more.

Hell, I’d be happy with your standard defense mode that you might see in other games (see Halo’s firefight or GOW’s horde). Semi-random/dynamic defence, gets harder as you go along. It doesn’t need to have rewards, there’s nothing wrong with just playing something for fun.

I would prefer they keep warriors the same, and change dungeon fights to actually require utility rather than pure DPS. Given that this would require a 100% overhaul of dungeons (for the better – no more trash mob skipping, more more damage sponge bosses) and I highly doubt anet can be bothered to do this, we can expect just a damage nerf. At that point I’ll stop doing pve altogether because anet are convinced that their idea of walking up to a boss and hitting 1 for 10 minutes where utility is useless and every class is the same but just does damage in a different way, is “fun”.

In some areas it’s for the better (Subject Alpha – if you could do him for 5 minutes then you could do him for 10) but generally they seem to have just given in to the idea of dungeons being facerolled through by the least capable people.

Some like to throw the word “casual” around. I disagree with the use of this word. My girlfriend, who has taken this whole time since launch to get her character to 80 (Some might say “Casual” amounts of play) had no problem getting through SE P1 or CoF P2’s old magg defence room, because, you know, we thought about it, we used teamwork, we had the whole party working together. Anyone went down we got them back up instantly. We didn’t just run in like headless chickens in full zerkers and get CC’d to pieces by the smokelord, we had some people stacking might, we had some people blinding and CCing the smokelord, and we had everyone putting out as many heals as they could.

Hell, my friend’s 11 year old daughter downed less on kholer than the two mute pugs who tried pulling howling king to the stairs.

There comes a point when you can’t use the word “casual” anymore, just “incapable”.

All these people aruging for the return of graveyard zerging with arguments that essentially boil down to “it’s my right to rely on a blatant crutch to pass fights instead of actually learning to play or working with my team!” confuse me. It makes me wonder how they coped on bosses like lupi, who, if you don’t learn how to dodge will kill you faster than you can run back.
