-This thread, 2013.

Just don’t respond. You don’t understand the topic. I’m not saying things shouldn’t be prestigious. Why is this one blade (which is an exotic) worth nearly as much as most legendaries? And more importantly, why is its brethren worth so much less? The only difference between them is the type of core/lodestone thing. The other lodestones are easier to farm and easier to acquire so it isn’t that this sword was intended to be rarer (yet still rare, I’m not wanting some common 50g sword or anything), but it is because the ingredients are hidden behind things nobody ever does.

My point: Why is this sword not equal in rarity to the other weapons made in similar fashions? Other weapons of this line are 500g in TP, this one is 2k (but not entirely accurate perhaps, as it is alone in the TP) and even the charged lodestone themselves are 1k off of the TP.

Because it is more rare, you’re asking a question that can’t be answered with anything than that.

“Why is this sword with a slightly better skin worth more than a different sword with a different skin, even though they have the same stats?” The same can be asked of almost any two exotics with different skins that you can find, and the answer is because one is more rare.

Also where was it defined that legendaries have to be the top tier of gear in terms of prestige? I don’t see it written anywhere.

Just don’t respond m8. You just don’t understand. Don’t respond.

Balao, you either bought gold using gems, have another high lvl character, or got some extremely lucky awesome gear that I don’t know of and sold it. I’m fairly confident that you can’t be lvl 22 on your first character and have 5 gold… did you buy a lot of character spaces and level them all up to lvl 22 while saving every copper? Did you sell your characters soul to grenth for a few gold? What is your secret because I’m dying to know as I’m lvl 80 and 5g still takes a couple of hours of high level farming to get.

Sell all your kitten? What do you actually use money for at low levels if you don’t want to craft?

This is actually a really good idea. I was suggesting perhaps that having the “better” buffs like protection on a longer cooldown so you have to sacrifice your attacks for a short while to get them over something like Swiftness, but maybe having 100% Protection and Wall of Reflection on 1/4th second charges might be the buff engis need.

Also note that provided he doesn’t have stacks of defiant, Fear Me goes through the shield and he moves at double speed, which basically gives you another 30 seconds of time to kill the adds in peace and then take down the shield.

I like the concept of the boss and at least it’s faster than Bjarl the Rampager, but I don’t like that he poses absoloutely zero threat to your group (As he doesn’t reset) outside of your skill to stand on a sliver of ground between lava and shield. Especially considering he doesn’t reset, it makes him literally just a time buffer between you and the end of the dungeon, if that makes sense. He also has far too much health. I have no idea how you would fix him as a boss without a major overhaul though – making him reset would cause everyone to play extremely cautiously and therefore take upwards of 30 minues on his heal pool.

Ok so, i hate PVE, i never ran a fractal, but i want my ascended gear for WvW it would be nice for casual players like me who works and have limited time to play, to have access to top of the line gear by buying gems using real money i would pay up to 300$ for them if necesary, i think many other playes who don’t really have time to farm the fractals or don’t even like that hadcore farming concept would do the same.
I think it is ok to give WoW kids something to farm but i don’t think is right to force the non Wow players to do it aswell. I just wanna do WvW, so make the ascended gear buyable by badges or real money, u are ruining the game… If we want to play WoW we would just do it, think about that.

You are asking for PAY to WIN.

No he’s not. You can pay for exotics already and they were the top tier gear, now ascended is the top tier gear and you can’t pay for it yet suddenly it becomes P2W. Never mind that you can only get it from one dungeon which many people dislike after endless grinding and xploiting through the same glitchy paths.

Also note that he said trading post, not gem store. Also also note that WvW players have no way to acquire these ascended items.

Writetyper.1985

No, I really enjoyed them for the first few run-throughs because they don’t have waypoint zerging and compared to the original dungeon set they have fairly good gameplay mechanics and settings (Cliffside fractal is amazing) but after doing multiple runs of level 10 and getting to 19 I just can’t be bothered doing it anymore. They’re such a chore, and pugging through them is so robotic – it’s the same way, same exploit for each boss every time. Not only this but they also suffer from the damage sponge problem – Jade Maw is incredibly boring, Lornarr is just a damage sponge. There are some really fun fights like the evolved shaman but it doesn’t make up for having to grind through all the other glitchy kitten… 10 times… just to get some little stats.

Part of it is because you are still playing at the tutorial stage. The dungeon gets more exciting when you can no longer survive 1 or 2 hits. Then it becomes a game of team coordination.

I’ve never played a game where the tutorial stage is grinding through tripe for ~20 hours.

hate the ascended gear, not the dungeon.
the dungeon and the ascended gear should be considered 2 entirely different tings.

the dungeon is great, like you say. and you say that the only down side is the “grind” but similar things can be said about every other dungeon. to get a full set of gear from a dungeon you need to get 1350 tokens. 1350/66 (you get some mysterious bags as well every run) that’s around 20 runs. sure, you could argue that they don’t have any superior stat. but, if you don’t think the stat is worth it. don’t do it. you don’t need the stat. the only way you’ll ever need those rings is if you plan on going over fotm lvl 20. and well, if you are going over 20 then you obviously think the dungeon is fun.

It’s good mechanics, but the who idea of the dungeon is built around replayability but it’s just not built to be fun when it’s replayed. It would be nice if it had some more alternate paths or slightly more random encounters or less stuff you could just skip past, but it’s not – it’s practically the same every time. Do you not see what’s wrong with that?

jade maw is one of the best bosses in the game to this date because of his mechanics. sure he is very easy once you learned how to beat him. but he is still fun. (part from the undodgable agony, that’s just poor design)

Hahaha are you kittening serious? Sure is fun standing here waiting for RNG to pick me so we can get this kitten over and done with faster.

Honestly if we had the option to fight Lupi or something instead of the Jade Maw then I could probably find the motivation to finish my 4 more daily runs for a ring. Lupi’s a tad harder but at least I’m not tempted to fall asleep halfway through like Jade Maw.

Honestly, leave current legendaries alone, you don’t have to make one because they give literally no bonus apart from feeling superior to all the peasants who don’t grind as much as you. I will agree that they are rediculous to make and any future legendaries should require skill as well as patience to make. However, nerfing them would reduce the prestige which will kitten off people who already have one.

Still don’t understand why dungeon master isn’t a requirement for one.

So the one guy solo’s the end boss? or The 4 paying help kill the end boss? If it’s the latter……lol

Because the end boss of all the Arah paths are sooooooo hard, right?

Based on a matter of principle…..If I were to pay 15g for 1 path….on principle I’m not helping to do kitten…that’s what the 15g is for….15g worth of help.

Arah P4 was the last thing I needed for dungeon master. When we killed Simin after 2 hours of soul wrenching kittenery, the path glitched and we couldn’t continue (Randall didn’t do anything). I didn’t mind doing it again because (are you ready for this) I actually really enjoy Arah explorable but I can only imagine a less tenacious player would be ready to part with 15g in order to not have to do that boss again. The bloodstone is trash mob tier in comparison to simin.

Writetyper.1985

skipping pretty much is required in SE path 1 (i think?) at the beginning. the inquests keep spawning, you gotta kill the golem boss and get the heck outta there ASAP.

Not really. It’s just very hard. And most people seem to think that you need warriors for this kind of thing, but strategy can make up for warriors. Here’s how I did it with a warrior, two engis, a necro, and an ele:

Me and the two engi’s would stack vuln on a single inquest using engi vuln stacking, Cyclone Axe and On My Mark, as well as whatever other conditions we could also do. When we got to 25 stacks, the necro would spread it to the other inquest using Epidemic. Meanwhile the engis and ele would stack might using fire fields alongside my use of FGJ. This way we were able to burn down each wave incredibly quickly, with me doing warrior damage, the engi’s doing decent boosted damage using bomb kit and the ele doing his ele thing. Most of the inquest were focused on me (P/v/t gear) because of toughness agro, but the necro had to use the blinding well when we got low here and there. Group heals from ele and necro also worked really well here.

Once we got to the bot the necro used spectral grasp (surprised it worked) to pull the bot away from the inquest (That way the new waves don’t stop behind the door). We’d each burn down a stack of defiant and then when it was about to do the spin of kittenery I’d interrupt it by switching to hammer. Whenever a new wave came we’d ignore the bot for a bit and focus on them using the same strategy, until they wiped . I’m surprised at how easily it went using such a team setup once we got the co-ordination together. You just have to spend a while getting a game plan together and use (gasp) teamwork.

I’d be very disappointed if they nerf this path. I’m currently very disappointed that someone’s found an exploit. Does dungeon master mean anything anymore? Should it be renamed to exploit master?

Potential solution to PvE dominance

in Warrior

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

2/2

-Change berserker’s might to a trait which gives 10% extra damage if you have switched weapons in the last 5 seconds

Again, this trait encourages very passive PvE gameplay – the facetanking afk autoattack warrior style that we get now. It’s kind of strange that doing this is the most effective way of playing warrior, as oppsosed to actually using utility and, you know, actually doing things. It would also synergyze with the previous suggestion – it might artificially encourage people switching weapons by forcing them to do it in order to maximize DPS, but it’s better than what we have now. Furious Precision is okay because there needs to be some trade off to using adrenalin, although it could be changed to something like “Switching weapons causes your next attack to do 25/35/40% extra damage based on adrenalin level”.

-Change discipline trait line’s bonus from 0.1 extra damage on burst skills to -0.1 seconds on weapon swap

To clarify: fast hands would need to be decreased to about 3 seconds less instead of 5, a 1 second weapon swap combo’d with the above suggestions would be rediculous.

Ever since fast hands got fixed I feel the class is completely different. Still not as good as it should be, but I feel the potential for it – you can knockdown combo someone with hammer, switch to axe for an eviscerate and then switch back in a mere 5 seconds for more ragdolling. You can use switch sigils whenever they’re available (provided they’re off CD) as opposed to mashing Q when you need it only to find it’s on cooldown. Best of all, you can make use of the adrenalin on weapon swap trait to build adrenalin really quickly.
Moreso, 0.1% extra damage is honestly the most useless trait bonus in the game. 80% of burst skills aren’t even damage based – the only ones I can think of are killshot, eviscerate, and that underwater one. On sword flurry it’s barely a dent, maybe one extra point of damage for each swipe? Even on the damage based burst skills, it’s extremely insignificant. Consider you put 30 points into discipline (Don’t know why you would, the traits are pretty poor) for 3% extra burst damage. Consider, also, that you hit for 4000 on eviscerate (Sounds reasonable?). With that trait line you now hit for 4120 instead. 120 damage. For 30 points in a trait line. Okay.
-0.1 second on weapon swap would encourage the more dynamic, adaptable, unpredictable style of warrior play I was suggesting with the previous changes. Warriors seem to be some kind of master of arms and weaponry, but instead they’re just a master of greatswords. Improved burst skills could replace one of the grandmaster traits or something.

-Improve our condition removal ever so slightly

There I said it. I don’t like the idea of being shoehorned into a single soldiers rune + shouts based rune just to do something like that. It doesn’t even have to be that big, something subtle could work. A trait for -10% duration on non-DoT condtions, maybe? Not using this build should be a sacrifice in terms of condition removal which you accept for a free util bar, but it shouldn’t be that bad to run without it. Even with mending and signet of stamina and sigil of generosity I find it hard to stay (We’ll say fairly, because it’s obviously not fair on condition builds if you can just remove every condition you get) condition clean.

TL;DR/In closing:

Increase the skill cap through making and encouraging warriors to change weapons to fit the situation, and at the same time decrease our crippling and seemingly unintended weaknesses such as lack of utility, build monotony and insane predictability, using similar/uniform yet relatively subtle changes for both PvE and PvP as not to confuse new players.

EDIT: Just thought of a potential one more slight change, and you’re going to hate this, but the removal of might gain from For Great Justice. Because right now, if you’re not using For Great Justice in dungeons, you’re just a pleb and on top of that you should pretty much have it on autocast. The fury is something that can be combo’d slightly more than might, if that makes sense – Fury will do more for Eviscerate than 3 Might will.

Potential solution to PvE dominance

in Warrior

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

1/2

While still giving us more utility/viability/niche in PvP without drastic incoherency between the two modes.

Right now warriors have a number of problems:

PvE:

-Forced into damage/hp centric builds
-OP because of the horrendous damage we can push out through just autoattacking
-Boring/stale/afk: engis have to swap between everything they have just to reach the same damage as us

PvP:

-Predictable (Who wants to take bets on how long that GS warrior will take to rush/bulls charge me?)
-Lack a role that’s not done better than someone else
-Lack useful utility
-Forced to use greatsword to be mobile
-Locked into certain builds

Global:

-Burst skills generally useless, nothing to sacrifice for

And now my proposed changes:

-Decrease autoattack/rotation ability damage slightly, increase validity of burst abilities

I’m not sure if the decrease in autoattack damage should be in pvp because big autos are all we have going for us, but this has to happen in PvE. Right now because of traits like berserker’s might and furious precision, (Which are really good for PvE) it’s actually worthwhile to do nothing but autoattack and use rotation skills like cyclone axe off cooldown. Which is incredibly boring, and even more skillless. It also encourages min/maxing to a degree, because some level of skill is taken out when you don’t use anything but 2 to three skills which are just more damage. Example: It’s actually less dps to use something like Eviscerate unless you can get that adrenalin back really quickly, so why would you? I’ve taken to positioning my warrior in front of a boss, alt-tabbing to read something else and tabbing back in to hit FGJ every now and again because that’s almost my max effectiveness as a warrior in PvE. Eviscerate shouldn’t have a straight up damage buff (We all know how that turned out) but maybe something in terms of 8 vulnerability per adrenalin bar or something. Arcing Strike is utter tripe and I don’t know who would use this ever. Hammer/Maces burst skills are okay but those weapons are generally poor outside of lesser creep pulls (Which everyone skips). Honestly at this point I think 100 blades and Arcing Strike should swap places, but that might be too drastic a change this far into the game.

-Give warrior a third weapon slot, using F2, F3, and F4 to switch

Sounds drastic but hear me out: warrior traits seem to be built around being a master of weaponry but we’re locked into simple builds because you’d love to use a mace but if you don’t have a greatsword then you lack mobility and if you don’t have a ranged weapon then you lack finishing power and all the other benefits that come from a ranged weapon. It would also raise the skill cap dramatically – I think we can all agree that ele’s are the hardest to play class in the game, a change like this would turn warriors into pseudo-ele’s, needing to keep an eye on cooldowns and switch between weapons for the required skill. In PvP it would give us the utility we need (As we’d be able to take something like mace or hammer without forfeiting greatsword damage) and in PvE it would force us into switching our weapons constantly to be as effective as we can be. Some op combos might need to be tweaked (Hammer burst skill into 100 blades holy kitten) but other than that it should be fine. So many dungeons requiring a ranged weapon also shoehorn you away from this kind of build right now – I use Hammer/Axe+Warhorn in dungeons I’m familiar with right now, but I just can’t get away with that in something I haven’t done before or high level fractals because there are so many enemies that will tear you apart in melee if you’re unfamiliar with their attacks. An extra weapon swap would also help to alleviate what I like to call the “Ursa” problem by letting us use gap closers and making us a lot less predictable.

Nice Warhorn skins

I ended up getting Windstorm. Less than 2g on the TP and really freaking huge! Seriously, must be the biggest Warhorn skin in the game. Could club people to death with it!

Dear god, I was just about to give in and assume that if I wanted a sizable and decent looking warhorn then I would have to make howler, but that thing is amazing. Bought.

Superior sigil of fire dps?

in Players Helping Players

Writetyper.1985

As compared to superior sigil of air, it does less – but only ever so slightly less. I strongly reccomend fire instead of air because as soon as there’s more than one target you’ve doubled your damage.

Anyway http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_air http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_fire they both do approximately your attack value

I changed the sigil and it’s fine, it’s still “Legendary”. I suspect it’s like regular weapons – sigil just changes the suffix, everything else is still the same weapon.

I’ve heard you can even use different sigils when you craft it, but I doubt that

Some people enjoy grinding. Some people enjoy rewards. You don’t. He does. There’s no reason for you to do it.

It’s really pretty simple.

Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nerfing AoE, really, how many players want that? Like 0, zero, nought, no one…

I want it. Provided they’re talking about melee cleave AoE. What is there right now to punish warriors and guardians from walking into a crowd of mobs and autoattacking with greatsword? Nothing. Absoloutely zilch. And there’s no way other classes without melee cleave can get aoe melee damage.

Honestly you don’t even know how they’re nerfing AoE yet, you’re the one living in your own little bubble if you read two words and overreact like this without anet even detailing what “aoe” they’re talking about. You don’t even know a single thing yet.

Remind me, why does everyone think thieves are OP? They only have one source of stability and it’s one that reveals them. Stun them and then hit them 3 times. If you die to bad zerkers burst theives then you have no right to complain, at all.

Don't nerf AoE

You don’t even know what they mean by “Nerf AOE” yet. Is it all aoe? It might just be a subtle reduction to melee cleave autoattacks.
