I expected everything in AC to be soloable (With patience) apart from the burrows. Kudos for being able to do what many groups fail to do with 5 people.

EDIT:

Although to be honest, as the designer of that content, I did a facepalm when I saw your thread title.

Why?
Its the Warrior designer and the profession balancing team that should be face-palming.
While i consider guardian pretty balanced, since his high resistance and nice support for team is balanced through rather low dmg. I dont see any downside on warriors, they excel in everything.

Every kittening time wethospu posts a video someone in the comments is always “hey nah it’s warrior this guy couldn’t do anything without his classDD”. Have you not perhaps thought of the skill required to solo lupicius with any class? I’d like to see you get a warrior and do even remotely close to the same.

The whole reason warriors are OP is because mobs, mainly bosses, don’t move out of sustained aoe (Like 100blades). They had this in the BWE. Why did they take it out? To casualise the game in order to sell more? Sure worked out well!

90% of bosses also have nothing that discourages standing right in front of them spamming autoattacks/100blades, so utility is useless it’s just DEEPS DEEPS DEEPS.

Alright, there’s a few simple steps to avoid this.

1. Waypoint to the door. If you are in combat, you will need to break combat before waypointing.
2. Step out of the “Honor of the Waves explorable” dungeon.
3. Cleanse your mind of any thoughts that might remind you of how cool the armour looks or how pretty the dungeon itself is
4. Do a different dungeon until they fix this kitten.

Passive Block on Shields &

in Suggestions

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

Blocking attacks without input is something a shield does by virtue of being strapped to your arm and simply being in the away of an attack.

Seriously, armchair warriors, go out and fight witha shield and sword for awhile against others and see how many attacks you block without actively trying…it is the whole point of having a shield.
Want to have a cost for it? Make a passive block cost 30% of an adrenaline bar. After all, a valid strategy against someone with a shield is to bash your weapon against the shield hard over and over again to drain the strength of your opponant and make them sluggish.

Passive dodging/blocking already exists in the game (3rd attack for ranger longsword, 3rd attack for ranger greatsword both being examples) so Anet is not opposed to it. Obviously the melee rangers aren’t opposed to it.
The thieves out there are also not opposed to passive dodges (dagger/dagger being the most seen thief weapon load in spvp as they use the dual skill to evade large attacks while attacking).

So why all this crying over a passive block? Afraid your big attack will miss? Don’t throw all your faith into one hit and plan better strategies with the expectation that you will be evaded, which is what everyone fighting a thief already does.

Are you honestly using a realism argument in this game? I’d like you to step back for a moment and think about how ridiculous that is, and then think about how a passive block adds nothing to increasing the skill ceiling on a class and only adds silly RNG to combat.

Why CritDmg scales so badly in low dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Writetyper.1985

This is the exact reason why I use my soldier’s set over my zerkers set during AC runs, the bonus is just so small that it’s far better to take more HP incase you miss dodging once of those scavenger leaps or something.

I’m not sure if I’m picturing this right in my head but should it scale down at all? It’s based off your other damage… which is scaled down. Shouldn’t that make it the same ratio of DPS you’re doing in Arah as you are in AC?

Why do people want the level cap to increase, btw? It’s just the same game with bigger numbers

Because for most people character progression stops at the level cap; forget phat lewt and gear, I’m talking about character abilities and skill, the continued evolution of playstyle for the class you’re playing, gear generally just makes you more ‘powerful’ without changing the way you play.

And I suggest most games players want more than arriving at the destination (ie. the level cap) then sit there forever running the same content.

True, some games manage this without actually increasing the level number (eg. FFXI with their ‘merit’ system, Rift with PAs. etc) but generally mobs also have to increase in strength to keep balance with increased character power; for that, and other reasons, it seems to me that non-level based character progression tends to be unsatisfactory.

I don’t understand MMO players. You just want something to aim for, and when you get there, you get nothing but slightly larger numbers than everyone else? But not really because then everyone else has the same numbers?

Why not make things to do instead of increasing the level cap so instead of a wild goose chase for meaningless rewards, you can actually have fun. Isn’t that what games are for, fun, right? Something with replay value in it apart from just exploiting past stuff to grind for meaningless kitten to look pretty in something where there’s nothing to do. I mean Wub and Fractals and getting Dungeon Master can only go so far.

Level Scaling should be optional...

in Suggestions

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

Why is this as an issue? Because one of the BIGGEST reasons for playing an RPG is to progress to higher power levels consistently, and feel powerful. The level scaling system at level 80 makes it feel like I just bought a new Porsche but I have to park it on certain streets to ride my bike.

I don’t see the logic in this, where is the entertainment in going to a low level zone where you one shot everything, where the challenge is even less than in regular PvE? Where is the fun in pressing 1 and seeing things get 1 shot? Do you want to show off? You basically want to run around a low level zone going “Hah!~ I’ve played the game longer than you!” to lower level players? Do you realize how rediculous that sounds?

It’s bad enough anyway. There’s no reason to go back to a lower level zone because rewards are not scaled. There’s also the added fact that the downscaling system doesn’t seem to work properly and on top of that you also have tri-stat gear, full traits, and runes that lower level players simply don’t have. Why would you want to make it worse?

Also if you want to one-shot things to fulfill some ridiculous desire, there are rabbits and rats and stuff everywhere.

The problem is that there are people who don’t want this hyper-compeditive speed-running environment. And the only thing people can do about that is play with people in the same mindset.

Those of you who are doing the 10 at once recipe and then are complaining about not getting any need to do some basic probability. Doing 10 at once lowers the sample size because they all are a success or a failure, so it’s much more of a gamble. It’s like entering the lottery and then complaining when you lose, because the much safer 1 clover recipe (Which in a large batch will come extremely close to one third of what you chuck in) is still there.

You are forced to go for a borderline burst build and it isn’t even possible with some classes as they simply don’t have any suiteable burst skills. It’s not even about lack of teamplay or skill, either your whole group is equiped for that situation or it isn’t possible.

Unnecessary disincentives for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Writetyper.1985

Writetyper.1985

Gold is necessary for ugrading since karma is not tradeable and there are many guilds which use the gild bank to ensure commanders have enough money to pay these costs.

Well make it optional. You can either choose to use your gold to upgrade, or use your badges. Run out of badges, check the guild bank. Simple.

Loot is bad. Current loot system counts party somehow. This should be removed. WvW play has very little to do with party mechanics unlike dungeon where you are automatically in same party anyway. Also difference between being in party and not is huge. If you’re not in party all you seem to get is like blue drops or some claws whatever. Not to mention if you are supposed to be any help to your allies you are not supposed to run MF gear, lol.

Does anyone remember when people used to play games for fun instead of loot? I don’t remember hopping onto dota back in the day in search of exotic gear, I was in search of entertainment. Did this concept just get lost for everyone along the way, or are all MMOs so grind focused like this?

I can completely understand not wanting crap drops, but I feel there is a very important reason for that. Extreme example: If, say, everyone dropped an exotic when you killed them then everywhere you look there would be people farming WvW for gear. You wouldn’t be able to go 5 meters without seeing someone getting killed by their friend on another server and ressed over and over for loot. Remember when Dolyaks gave karma when you escorted them? Remember when every dolyak would have ~20 people walking along with it, taking server slots and generally polluting what is supposed to be a primarily PvP experience with PvE?

Another thing is existing competition would be boosted to abnormal levels. People wouldn’t be going for wins, they’d be going for kills, which does not necessarily equal wins. People would fight over using arrow carts, because they are the most effective way to tag zergs. A zerg would be 50% longbow rangers using barrage. Just think about how much animosity there is already, on the jumping puzzle, where big rewards are at stake.

A knee-jerk bandaid fix is not always the best solution, even though it may sound good on paper. Please remember this.

Is it really that hard and game breaking to add an option to re-enter? Why does it take so long to apply what should of been a hot-fix?

You throw this concept around like a rhetorical question (Which I understand, it’s perfectly rational to be upset in this case) but the answer is actually yes.

In order to have a checkpoint-based system instead of graveyard zerging (A concept that essentially makes every dungeon in a way possible, and therefore defeats the concept of levels), fractals used the same netcode as co-operative story missions and other instances instead of standard dungeons. Hence, needing to be in the same overflow, ect.

Not being able to rejoin fractals is an unintended/unforeseen/ignored side-effect of this.

Fixing said problem requires extensive work on the base game. Which, is no easy feat, even in a regular game. But this is an MMO, where everything has to be checked and double checked for security/exploit reasons, where everything has to be in perfect sync or nasty bugs could occur, and where everything has to be completely glitch free or people get extremely irate. And with programming, you can’t just throw more people at a problem to make it go away faster. Budget restraints are also an issue, anet are not operating on a blank cheque which is an important thing which most people forget about game design when asking why X feature doesn’t exist.

I’d be glad they gave us a date at all, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re still working on it now.
